do the xdaii & xdaiis use the same batteries & can they use the same car charger.
You should be able to use the same charger, but the batteries are different - the XDAII battery is internal, whereas the IIs battery also forms the back of the device.

Hi,
have anyone expericene in building an addition battery pack für the mda-II?
With wlan i have only 90min to work on the device.
Maybe we can user an akku from camcorder or mobile phones? (Very small and powerfull)
The orginal mda-II akku has 1200mAh and the powerconnector loads the device with 5V max. 2A.
Any ideas?

Hi!
What do you think of 5-6 AA/Mignon 2000 mAh rechargeable batteries combined with a low drop voltage regulator?
Maybe it fits in a old tape cassette cover?! (I don't have one available for testing.)
Jens
Great idea.. AA/Mignon in a old cassette cover.
I will test later on how much Ampere really is needed to load the pda and how much is need when the build in batterys are full. I think this is different.
My goal is to have enough power to use the wlan more than 5 hours if possible
regards
AleX
O2 were talking about an add-on sleeve that includes a CF slot and extra battery. Available shortly apparently.
Steve
Checking the O2 website see http://www.my-xda.com/backpack.html
I see battery extenders on ebay, just a small box with alkaline or rechargeable batteries inside, have you tried those, very cheap too.
Backpack
Exclusively for Xda II, the backpack is a powerful expansion unit. The jacket provides a compact flash card slot, a 600mah additional battery and VGA/TV out, allowing you to connect your xda to a projector, monitor or even a television (PAL/NTSC).
This Compact Flash slot supports Wireless LAN, GPS, Bar Code readers as well as normal CF storage cards (including the IBM Microdrive®)

You need 5 hours of working batteries:
1200 mAh / 90 min => 800 mA / h
You need another 3 1/2 hour => 2800 mAh if current coming through the power connector is about worth the same as from internal battery.
A small plastic box with mignons seems to me more flexible. Do you really need 5 hour ?!
What's about a 6V sealed Lead-acid (right name :? ) battery with voltage regulator?
Put the battery in your backpack connected to your XDA by a wire and you can walk through your city.
Jens
tanks all for your answeres!!!
@sweeney
I have read about the backpack and it is very interessting with the CF-Slot but i heard a price of more than 200eu... thats to much for me. And the additional battery is with 600mah to small.

@alex
This one I have used with XDA II
The price is OK!.

O2 were talking about a price of about £90 (about 130eu), then I was thinking in terms of a low power CF 802.11 card (say the socket unit (http://www.socketcom.com/product/WL6000-320.asp) which with a maximum requirement of 280mA in transmit mode and it's fancy power management drawing from the backpack's own power cell should be good for over 5 hours.
You could of course lug around a bunch of spair lithium cells or a battery pack and cable, kind of defeats the objective though.

I'm researching batteries with a view to getting the best life possible out of an XDA2 between recharges.
What replacement/spare batteries do people use and what is their power (mAh) rating?
What other things can people tell me on this?
I'm not averse to back-packs etc.
TIA
I have one of the batteries available on eBay. Seems the same as the original battery. I carry the spare in my belt case.
I got mine from www.pdamods.com and have been using it for three months now, must say better than the original and in fact looks like an original !!!
I have three batteries. One came with the unit, I bought another from the same shop, the third I bought 2nd hand. All appear identical and all 1200mah. I swap them through my XDA II every week or so so that they each get drained and recharged regularly. When not in use one is on charge in my desktop cradle in the office, other in my briefcase.
All seem to last about the same amount of time.
Must admit though since buying an integrated car kit for my XDA II (plus GPS) I do not have to swap batteries as often.
Ed
You can find batteries at 1400mAh, same size as the original and officially 20-30% increased autonomy.
Battery question
Thanks everyone for all the help you've given to me in the past. I have a couple battery related questions:
1. I just got a new battery from PCPockettechs. It is rated 3.8VDC 1200 mAh. The current battery in my XDA II is rated 3.7VDC 1200mAh. I have not tried the new battery yet and am worried that the extra 0.1VDC might cause it some harm. Does anyone know or have experience with this difference? Am i worrying for nothing?
2. The extra battery charger that is in the cradle - it does not appear to be working (the light does not come on). Does the XDA II battery have to be fully charged before it starts charging the extra battery? Does the cradle need to be plugged in to the AC (I have the EU cable which I cannot use) before it will charge or can it just be connected via USB as I do now?
Thanks again,
Sean
Hi,
When I purchased mine from www.pdamods.com it worked straight out of the box. Unless it is completely flat it should work even if charged for a short while, however you should charge it for 18 hours on the first charge.

As far a I know you have to use the AC adapter. USB won't work.
Not true, I charge it with the USB, however NOTE it does take longer
The MDAII charges on USB only too.
Not sure about charging an extra battery (that is what the question is about I think)
thanks guys. Yes, the MDA II or XDA II both charge in the cradle just on USB... however, will it also charge the extra battery just on USB? I don't think it will unfortunately.
On my other question: does anyone know if the 0.1VDC difference will make a difference? The battery appears to be the right size, shape, same connectors, etc. as the original battery - the only difference being this 0.1VDC.
Anyone with some good electrical/technical info that they could share would be great. It would put my mind at ease - or stop me from making a big mistake!
The MDA II charges on USB (in the cradle).
But for the extra battery to charge in the cradle you need to plug in the power (and then the light will turn on!).
Hi,
can any one explain how to charge spare battery for wizard ?
There are after-market cradles that have a spare battery charging location. You can find them on ebay for about $20.00. The PDA, unfortunately, charges off the USB port and the spare battery from the adaptor. However, you can plug the PDA charger into the cradle as well to get best charging performance - although it won't sync with the PC this way.
The other option is to swap the battery out of your PDA and use the PDA as your charger. Personally, I'd just order the cradle.
hello, everyone ,I found a charger for HTC diamond in the network. The link is :http://www.56.com/u27/v_Mzc5MDAyMDg.html.They introduced the feature is: Support Mobile synchronizing/mobile charger/ stand charger battery charger and each of them use single or together. The mobile with thick battery also can charger synchronic.
Apply to: :Dopod S900,HTC Diamond etc. standard battery/ thickness battery.
Does anyone use it?
Well, after some mounths of usage of the phone, and some tests, I'm here searching for some help from your experience.
I'm looking for a way to properly use the Z1C as a GPS navigator, of course still managing calls via bluetooth headset.
Also driven by the informations collected here I've gone throuh some tests using magnetic charging port only, in order to save waterproofing (it's also musch more confortable).
I've tried both a USB magnetic charger cable and also a mini-USB magnetic charger adapter.
I always end up with the phone discharging with all navigators (i.e. waze, here).
I've tried several scenarios combining a couple of different car chargers, and different USB cables (with the adapter).
Same result: phone discharging.
If anyone has experienced a solution tha makes the phone charging with GPS car navigation, and BT connection, and making some calls, please give details (I understand quality could make the difference so the exact product would be nice).
I see vendors claiming high performace charging like magnetor-x, but don't if vould be ok with my use case.
Also, I use Z1C in landscape while driving, and a silicon case, so I'm not sure every cable/connector vould work.
Thank you very much for your attention.
Check the output from the charger. It should be at least 1,2 Ah/ 1200 mAh to charge the battery. I use 2,1 Ah charger and I have no problems what so ever.
I've been using a cheap generic usb charger only rated for 400mAh and it manages to charge my phone while using gps navigation and speach-to-text operations. You may want to check that there isn't an app in the background draining your phone.
Or you could try to find a 2Ah/2000mAh charger.
Workshop fine for me, using a standard old car charger plug and cheap magnetic usb cable. Phone charges quickly.
