Ok, I want to use the XDAII in the LandRover for mapping, it is noisy in the truck, I also want to play MP3 WMA files via the car stereo.
I have a Garmin eTrex but am willing to get something dedicated if the price is right.
I want a cradle for the XDAII that will hold it securly,
I want to power/charge the XDAII and GPS
I want to get the audio out of the bottom connector into the front of the stereo (3.5mm socket) for music play back (poss hands free phone too)
I still have various bits of hands free kit from when I used to fix 'carphones' in the early 90's. It would be nice if i can fit a mic in car for voice dial and calls too.
If the info on the tech page is correct on the bottom connector it would appear all is straight forward to do myself, However we all know for the cost of the parts I could by something that would do what i want and more. So what will do it. I am unsure on the XDA to XDAII connection compatability.
Current experiance of produced products is a duel universal mount from memory-map, the GPS fits fine but the XDAII just falls out, not good for £30

I wish the same thing that you. I would like to use the Xda2 with Land Rover Discovery for mapping together my Garmin 3+.
To do this maybe we have to make a serial and power cable or find someone who can make it.
I think the pinage for xda2 is slightly different than the xda1. In myxda.com they said: "Most accessories are not common to both except for the car charger".
If someone here can help us to know what the correct pinage for xda2 than we can make one.
Or we can buy a serial cable from O2 (I am oredering one now) and check what is the pinage used for it and mix with the car charger adapter.

Charger from xda1, serial cable, gps, usb cable (charging problem) all work with xda2, cradle also works but you need to shave a little off the inside or you will mark your xda2. I have an arkon cradle/speaker, 2 usb power jacks, speaker jack with 2.5 to 3.5 converter from xda1, this works with xda2 but the rf break through from the phone to the speaker in the cradle is atrocious, i wish I knew how to fix that problem because when you receive a call you have 10 seconds or more of rf noise before you get to hear or speak to the caller, other than that it is fine and comes with lots of different mounting options.

When I get chance Ill get my scope on the pins and work it out. Ive had my eTrex working, used the standard serial lead for the XDA2 and the eTrex, just made a null modem adapter to connect between em (info on memory map web site) Works well but you have to dissable beaming as i think they share the same comm port.
I was going to buy the eTrex connector to bare ends from Garmin but it doesn't carry power only data!!! typical. Have thought of getting one of the dedicated GPS units.
So the next best option is to have a cable from the XDA2 to a small box, this will have TX/RX audio, power and data. The box will have a PSU for the XDA and a cigar socket to for the eTrex standard lead. Id rather not chop up the lead as it cost silly money.

Sounds like this would be accessory number 1 for anyone with an XDA2 and a car.

Let me know if you need details - seems silly to buy a new GPS just because you can't get a combined data/power lead for it. It cost me £24 mail order, IIRC.
XDA connector
I need to find a UK supplier of the XDA connector, this would get the cost down. The easy way would be to buy the in car charger, strip it, mount the charger in the box, replace the cable with one that will do all the connections.

I am also currently looking at my options as like you TDIpower, I am trying to use the XDAII in a noisey landy.
I am interested in the parrot ck3000 which according to the blurb connects your phone etc via a bluetooth unit into your stereo unit. I have not looking into all the issues but I assume you would be able to use the phone/navigation and MP3 via this unit through the vehicle speakers to be able to hear whats going on? Mind you when I'm going a full tilt I can hardly hear the speakers either??
I know a couple of others on here have the parrot unit so mybe they could shed some light on this??

What you are asking for is available, apart from the sound in the form of the carcomm cradle http://www.totalpda.co.uk/product4738_0.aspx.
According to the connector wiring on this site you should be abale to get sound from the bottom connector, but what the connector page fails to tell you is you only get sound out o fthe bottom connector during in a call, so its no use for MP3 or Navigation sounds. Re the Parrot CK3000, I have just taken one out of my car as it did not work with the XDA2 if you have installed bluetooth tools. And without bluetooth tools the bluetooth GPS device would not work. Also you cant currently send sound over bluetooth apart from when in a voice call.
If you find a solution to sound from the bottom connector please dont forget to post.

@justinp: There appears to be A way to get all sound from the bottom connector.
The T-Mobile MDAII Carkit (QTek2020 carkit and the Yeti carkit are the same make) do just that!
Unfortunately I have this (cheaper) XDAII / iMate (Expansys-sold like) carkit wich only give in-call audio via the bottom connector.
There is someting with pin19 and pin9 (I read on the german www.ppc-welt.info forum).
pin19 must be grounded
pin 9 must NOT be connected (it is on some carkits thus messing up proper operation).
Now if someone can verify this!!

Hi guys! Hope you can give me a hand on this...
I´ve been got my palm treo 750 since last March and everything goes really good with it, in fact i love it, but 2 days ago i plugged the headphones in it and only could listen through the speaker of the treo. I tried it sometimes more but nothing happened, the only way it works is to plug the headphones and do a soft-reset, when it starts i can listen to music or whatever through the headphones, and when i disconnect them and turn it off for a while, it happens again, so i have to do another soft-reset with the headphones plugged to listen though the headphones again.
1) I suppose it´s a hardware malfunctioning stuff, but maybe it´s not copmletely broken and could work fine with a soft appl, is that possible?
2) If not, does any one have specific photos and info about how to do the surgery?
3) In case i do the surgery, is it possible to change the socket from 2.5 to 3.5 mm? I mean, it´s only a hardware situation or do I have to install or change something in the treo´s software.
Anything would be great except take it to the technical service bc it could take a very long time to get it back, and i use to need it daily.

Also, I had my headset jack stick and I used WD-40 lubricant applied to the inside of the jack using the headset plug repeatedly dipped in the WD-40 and inserted in the jack.
I've had no problem since the WD-40 released the stuck jack and my audio was restored.

hello, thanks for replying, but it´s the same way to fix it on treo 750 (700w)? I would prefer fix it by myself bc I don´t even kive in the US so, and my treo still as warranty, but dont want to send to technical service bc this could take a long time.
is there any application such as headcold v1 but for windows mobile?
I think in my case could be repaired by software bc when I do a soft-reset with the headphones plugged it works perfectly again.

I just used WD-40 to clean the audio socket but i think that was not the solution. the thing is very simple.
From my point of view I think when the handheld is turned off, you should plug the headphones, and turn the device on with the headphones plugged in, and this should work.
my problem was i used to plugged them in when the device was on, and in this situation the socket does NOT recognize the headphones properly, so just plug them when the palm is OFF.
sounds a silly thing but in my case it worked

I bought a 3way connector which from one side is connected to the unit and provides me with conectors for charging the unit, for the wired hands free and for an extra connector for earphones. However, when this connector is connected to then automatically is suspending the audio connections despite if there is a hands free connected or not.
I dont know if this is a hardware or softwear peoblem. Can someone advice for a possible solution???
it has been plugged in as a handsfree and so this will happen, there's no way around about because that's what it's meant to do, i suggest you buy a different set of connectors if u dont want the headphone one
I took this addaptor to use it in the car for charging during using as GPS and also when I have a call then to connect the wired handsfree and speak. With this 3 way connectos it automatically goes to handsfree mode and I can not hear anything from the speakers.
I dont know if exist some other adaptor that will not go automatically to handsfree mode but only when a handsfree is really connected. Anyone has/use such adapter to tell us more????

What the chuff???
I'm not too sure what your after, if I'm right then you want to connect a USB charger, with handsfree capability, but you want it to only output through the handsfree when you choose to.
If the handsfree is connected it will only come out of the handsfree speaker, I use a simple USB charger when I'm using GPS other than doing that and scrapping the handsfree the only suggestion I have would be to find a way of connecting it to your headunit, so all sounds come out of the internal car speakers.

SOLVED: It was the cable.
Searching around, this seems to be a common problem with a variety of phones, some it works, some don't. My old G1 worked flawlessly in this manner.
Whenever I have a pair of headphones or my auxiliary cable for my car plugged in, the internal mic doesn't work when I receive a call. This sucks, because if I'm listening to music in my car and get a call, I have to remove the phone from the window mount and unplug the cable while driving down the road, or fiddle around with the power button to switch the phone to speaker mode (screen goes black after answering a call with the cable plugged in).
Is there a solution for this other than spending $180 on a bluetooth integration kit for my car (was looking at the Parrot MKi9000 or KlaT7)? I'm a little scared of this route considering the problems people have been having with A2DP on Gingerbread. I'm hoping the official Gingerbread release (if it EVER releases) will fix the A2DP and/or this issue. I am running Froyo right now, but am eagerly anticipating the official Gingerbread release.

That does not match my experience with the stock ROM. I listen to Pandora in my car via an FM transmitter that is plugged into my earphone jack, and I receive calls all the time without having to go into speakerphone mode: the caller's voice comes through the car loudspeakers, and they hear me just fine. I just ran an experiment with a pair of earphones (no microphone) plugged in and called myself from my landline and I definitely heard it loud and clear over the landline phone when I blew into the microphone hole in the bottom of the G2x.
That definitely is odd. The phone is rooted along with faux's kernel, but I have the stock ROM. When I have the cable plugged in no one hears me on the other side, and voice dialing doesn't work either. Is your G2x all stock?

My guess is its the cable. Probably something with the connector is tricking the phone into thinking it has a microphone built in, just like when you plug in a headset it mutes your handset mic.
You are both correct. Just tried a different cable and it works great.
The cable I was using was the one included with the T-Mobile Window Mount Kit. I was using it because I have the Speck case and the original one I bought from MonoPrice.com was too thick to fit through the hole. The T-Mobile cable was skinnier and just barely fit. I took the phone out of the case and tried the one I bought from MonoPrice and it worked perfectly.

Now I need to decide whether or not to bore out the hole larger on a $30 case. As most reviews have stated, it does scratch very easily and is very difficult to get the phone out. Anyone know of any other cases that have a larger diameter hole for the headphone out?
I use my phone as a music player. So I use a headset to listen to music and to answer calls. I spend maybe a total of 1-2 hours on the headset when I'm out.
So far, I've used HTC stock headset, and a $20 Maximo headset (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=370510988729)
For both, I have the same problem. After a few weeks of use, the headset 'breaks'. When plugged in, sound only comes out of one ear. If you wiggle the connector part (see pic) around, then sound will start coming out of both ears. But you need to hold the wire in a particular orientation and it'll work, let go and sound will go back to coming out of one ear.

I know the problem is not with the phone socket breaking. I can plug in a new headset (I've got a new unused HTC stock headset) and sound comes out of both ears perfectly.
I'm 90% sure I know what causes the problem. I keep my phone in my jeans pocket, with the headset plug in. Because of the way the phone lies in my pocket, and the way my leg moves when I walk, the connector part of the headset gets 'squashed' a bit in my pocket, i.e. it's not sticking up perfectly straight out of the headphone socket of my phone.
So my questions are:
1. Is this problem common or have I just been very unlucky? Other people here who keep their phones in their pocket, and plug in a headset for music, do you get problems like this with your headsets?
2. Do people think this is a problem with cheap headsets? I mean the headset's I've used ARE cheap and ARE from ebay. If so, can people recommend a decent headset? I'm looking at spending around $100 at most, preferably less than that. It has to be a headset, not a headphone. Preferably with a button. I'm using an android phone, but most headsets that are not explicitly for iphone/ipod/ipad only will work.
3. Or is this a problem with the way I'm using it? Is keeping my phone in my pants pocket a bad idea when a headset is plugged in? I have a holster + case for the phone, but I don't like using it cause it's bulky. Is there anything else I can do to keep the connector part from 'bending' while it's plugged in?
I have the same issue. A couple of things I found worked:
- Turn the phone around in your pocket so the headphone jack faces out of the pocket (if possible). Stops bends in the wire just after the plug, which seems to be the cause fo the problem (in my case). I use a Sensation so the jack is on top, but sometimes it's on the bottom as well.
- If you can't do the above, find a cheap male/female 3.5mm adapter and use that between the headset and the plug. Try and find the heaviest gauge (thickest) one available. Better to stuff a cheap adapter than a headset.
- If that's not possible, wrap six or seven winds of duct tape around the cord of the headset just after the plug. Will toughen it up a bit.
- Spring for some Bluetooth headphones, like these (which are excellent), or a headset adapter, like this (also very good, but much more expensive)
You really want to do all you can to keep the plug and majority of cord out of your pocket, especially if it's a tight pocket. Something like a jacket is good; it doesn't move so much when you walk.
