Hi,
I'm in final tests of my new program designed to observe GPS-enabled device each-other.
Let's call it: GPS.PING
The main purpose of this program (both versions for PPC Phone Edition and MS Smartphone exist and are compatible) is: exchange positions by SMS (or GPRS) between devices and calculate where we are. And how far.

Why GPS.PING?
Because the exchanging positions between devices can runs in the way like nautical "ping". You send SMS message with request of position to some external device, and thhen you will get answer with position.
Some hardware, like Benefon Track mobile phone allows you to do it easily. Alternatively you can use any XDA or Smartphone with my program to do so. Benefon (or others) gives you only numbers.
My program gives you the point around you, with calculated distance and direction.
Of course some hardware allows you to get current position permanently every 15 seconds, minute or any pre-defined time. This costs a lots of money. I think that the "ping" method is much more conveniently, because you decide when you want to check the new position. In most cases you need new/next position not often than every few minutes.
No maps, no preparations, calibrations, now huge files taken a whole memory of small XDA.
I only want to know: where and how far is the second device.
With my practical tests last days, I's amazed how to use such kind of program with only ONE GPS receiver.
Mode 1:
GPS Rx is connected to My Device. I start the program and fix External Position with the current one. This is my Start Point or Target Point or whatever you want to name. Now I can run or drive away, and in my program I can observe where I am depend to the Start Point. In this way I can easy track my way back to the Start Point.
Mode 2:
GPS Rx is connected to some External Device. I start the program and fix Start Point with the position of External device. Now I "ping" the position to My Device one time. Then if somebody goes away with External Device, I can "ping" from My Device to the External Device and get new postion. On My Device I see where is the External and how far from my position.
Please let me know what's your comments.
Or maybe what do you expect more from this kind of program.
I don't know at this moment if I'm content from the current user interface.
This is only preview concept of some idea.
I made this interface like some gadget-hardware, we saw on the movie: Aliens.
Screenshots do not show you how it plays.
Just imagine: point is blinking, very fast,, blue circrles rotate on the background, text are animated. Some kind of "ping" sound is playing frequently depend from the distance. Closer = faster pings.
It's really excite.
Good luck with this, a very useful program in my view. Regarding the animation of graphic screen, I would not care if it was static with a just a flashing indicator. How much cpu time is taken with animated graphics, would it impact on the update times or interfere with the smooth running of other programs. I think simplicity is the key, if a program is useful, elegant in its programming and simple in operation it would be better than a very pretty interface that was taking up cpu and or memory while still offering only the same results.
it runs fast and smoothly
the interface was written in GAPI, which draws directly on the screen buffer, this way animations are very fast and smoothly, 25 fps, the processor is not taken more than 8%, and a whole application takes less than 200kB with all resources, graphics, sounds.
Well, I agree with cruisin', although I guess, the GUI isn't bad (a little to playful for my taste) and the function is nice.
Could you post a version of it here or even post some more screenshots (SMS settings, etc.)?
Greetings,
BGK

Hi!
So I've had this idea knocking around in my head for a while, and finally banged it together over the last week or so. Basically the speed of the snake reflects the current CPU load of the phone, and it's length reflects RAM usage.
There's a bit of a settings screen, so you can change the colour of the snake, as well as what the speed and length represent (the third option is number of processes running), and change how often it polls the system for new values.
I'm planning to release this version (more or less) on the Market for free, along with a paid version with more advanced settings (surprise!).
If you have time, please install it, try it out, and let me know what you think. I'd love to hear about:
Crashes (along with logcat output if possible )
General battery usage (should be pretty good, but, y'know)
Any other problems you might run across
How your day is going
How smoothly it runs on your phone
Suggestions of more system settings to display
And more ways to display them
What you had for breakfast
Any other settings you'd like to see!
Thanks very much for taking the time to read, I hope you like the wallpaper!
Mark
I ll try it now and would surely report back.
Excellent How about the color of the snake (green yellow red) as the battery stats? Or at least optional

+1 that would be useful
General feedback:
* Simple, cool and geeky design (that's a good thing)
* Lag free
* Maybe add an option for the size of the snake (i.e how big the blocks are). I quite like the current size, but others might like different sizes.
I've added some screenshots for you hope they help! I had no idea how to make the images smaller... sorry :<

Hi,
so far it works perfect (Nexus S, stock 4.0.3). No lags, no crashes and basically now battery usage.
I would like to e. g. keep my regular wallpaper but to have a small "window" and have the snake in this window. Combined with the colour depending on the battery stats this would be a great feature...
Is there any possibility of some working screenshots? I recommend some image hoster.
I created a location tracking app, which doesnt use GPS, WIFI or internet while tracking. This was kinda meant to be my personal app, because data connection while roaming is too expensive for me, and of course, GPS would drain off my battery from 100% to 0% in less than 4 hours if used continuously (Im using LG Optimus One). Plus, GPS tracking apps dont let the device sleep.
You can easily view your tracks on map, or in a tree view.
It can also batch-geotag pictures, based on the locations recorded.
I had been working on it for months before releasing it in Play Store.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.arn.loc
Features:
• Location tracking:
This app works by logging cell tower id. You can specify the time interval. When the app is in background, and is recording locations, it doesnt keep running forever. It runs only at the specified intervals and closes. So, it hardly uses any resources and is task killer friendly.
*** Accuracy of location by cell tower is low, ranging from 500m to sometimes even 4KM. This app will be useful only if you are travelling tens or hundreds of KMs and if you dont mind accuracy.
*** To resolve the recorded cell IDs into geo coordinates, you need internet. You can do this anytime later, maybe after you are back to home.
• Geotagging pics:
To geotag pics, just put this app in recording mode while you click photos. When you get to home, you just need to resolve the locations recorded and geotag the pics.
Geotagging is done by selecting a location from your records, based on the time when the picture was taken.
• Backup and restoring of records to sdcard

I'm gonna try this one
Looks really interesting. Integration with Tasker would by nice to have. You could start the app when leaving home (wifi disconnect, time of day, cell ID....) and stop it after arriving to the destination.
cant find it in the play store ( i have motorola defy cm10)
can someone provide me that apk?
okay, apk attached
Updated with the following changes
- Extended compatibility to Eclair and Froyo.
- Fixed an error about displaying of dates on map.
- Fixed an issue with restoring data.
- Now blue pointers will be hidden in lower zoom levels.
can you share the source code please ?
Sounds interesting..
Previously i use location tracking app that work with gps but it drains the battery more
Will try this
Thanks
Hi guys! Here’s Co & Do’s APP Recommendation Channel!
We are all fans of Android and are thrilled about variety of productive, funny and easy-to-use apps, no doubt (this curiosity is our secret of making such a great app like AirDroid, to be honest).
Remember the classic scenes of Professor X reading the mind of others in X-Men? It’s pretty cool. But we know that’s not real. How about apps that can read your mind? That’d be much much cooler! Co & Do’s Channel this week is gonna recommend you such an app that will “read” your mind: Gravity Screen - On/Off by Plexnor.

Unlike other apps, you’ll be greeted by a row of settings instead of icons when you open this app:
Seemingly complicated? Nope! You’ll find this app quite simple when you continue.
How It Works:
Gravity Screen *On/Off determines whether to turn on or off your phone’s screen by using gravity sensor and proximity sensor of your phone. It is also based on screen orientation and motion detection.
To be more specific, the phone’s screen will be turned on automatically when it detects that you’re holding the phone. Any small movements of the phone will turn on the screen, too. If the phone has been placed onto a table downward or been put into the pocket, the screen will be turned off. See how the magic performs with the following video:
If you leave all settings of this app as default but find it doesn’t work properly on your phone, you may try increase/decrease the angles at which the screen will be turned on/off or modify the sensors’ sensitivity level. Customized settings usually perform better than default ones:
Generally, this app works well on my phone most of the time. But according to the developer, the accuracy of this app varies from one phone to another, which mainly depends on the preciseness and accuracy of your phone’s sensors. It is recommended to do some tests before you start using this app.
One thing that may bother you is the battery. Personally, I don’t experience serious battery drain issue with this app. One tip for saving battery: place your phone face down when you don’t use it.
Feel excited about this app? Does anyone think about installing this app on the phone with a broken power button? I did. I was thrilled when I found this app at first, thinking that I can use my Nexus 4 normally though the power button is broken. But then Dora reminds me, “Hey, so you need to make sure that your phone’s battery will never die.” That’s indeed true. But it doesn’t really matter. Not all of you suffer the same pain as me. Anyway, just give it a shot. And don’t forget to share with those whose power button is broken, may be a lifesaver
Gravity Screen - On/Off is available on Google Play for free. It also provides a pro version which will cost you $1.97.
Hello,
I'm developing app that will turn any smartphone into desktop PC while still maintaining its functions. I use only Android operation system and I don't need any PC or notebook to make it works.
How it works?
It is very simple! For a wired connection (via a cable), all you need to do is insert your phone into a docking device; within seconds you can use your phone as a desktop computer – on the screen, you will see all programs adapted (size and interface) for use with external monitor, keyboard, and mouse. In this way, you can create texts, tables, surf the internet, and do many other things that you do on your PC or laptop. After disconnecting, simply take your phone out of the docking device and you can instantly use it as you are used to.
For a wireless connection (without a cable), all you need to do is click on a specific icon on your phone and it will connect to a television where you can use the internet, play games, watch movies, view photos, listen to MP3 files – your phone can easily become a multimedia centre. With a wireless connection, it is also possible to use all functions of your phone as with a wired connection. To disconnect, simply click on the icon. Wireless connection use Google Chromecast.

Why do I think that this is great idea?
Well because today's phone are very powerful so why not use them as primary or secondary desktop.
Where is the catch?
Atm the app is working only on my phone but I really would like, that anyone in the world could use his/her phone as desktop PC without ROOT, but for that I need great support from app developers because they need to modify their app to switch their UI when my App is running. It's little bit complicated but if it will be easy somebody already developed it.
What do you think about this app? Would you like to use your phone like desktop? The main advantage of phone is that it is small and you have it ALWAYS with you. And I'm sure that soon or later ppl will use their phone same way like their user their PC or NB, smartphones are becoming very powerfull so why not used them like desktop?

Some information about me
My name is Pavel Kostal, I live in Europe in Czech republic, I'm 35 years old, and I love to use all phone's functions no matter what. I started Indiegogo campaing, not beacuse I want to make money (well money are fine, but I spent already thousand of dollars for making the video, translation and for advertisement), I did it because I need great support from ppl, without them I can't finish my program but I really would like to, because I spent 3 years developing it!
Sry for my english
Pavel
Rezerved
If you like, I could post step by step information how to make it works on your phone using 3rd party program. Just post reply and I will make the manual, it's so easy that almost everybody could make it.
One more information. Thanks to Microsoft use phone like desktop PC will be now much more easier beacause they made release Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint with desktop (tablet) UI.

I want to know how it works, can you please tell.
Hello!
A succint presentation first of all:
I am a power user who likes to browse the internet desktop style, this means I use custom desktop user agent (X11; Linux x86_64). I operate in landscape most of the time and use a reduced screen dpi value for sites and apps to think my screen is a lot bigger (at times I reduce it to actual desktop monitor levels). Take a peek:

Been using Chrome for some years already, with the usual root user user agent hack and many flag optimizations. It still is a great browser imho, but it is starting to seriously stink. If I do recall correctly with the v62 update the address bar tab switching slide left/right thing received an animation which degraded its performance from flawless instant into slow piece of crap. Also at that point or some version later my keyboard's Enter/Go key started turning into Next in some search fields where it shouldn't (this is nothing major as the ALT key forces normal operation). In the recent v71 they removed the homepage links to Bookmarks :crying: and Downloads. When I downgraded from v71 to a previous version, the browser deleted all the files it had in his download history from my device's Download folder (this is super bad and a serious violation of privacy). With the very latest update which for now I am going to uninstall, they have added another stupid animation to the page search engine which of course cripples it considerably when using it in pages with a lot of content. As an example, when searching for a device in the Batteries and chargers' section at lygte-info.dk the search was instant before that upgrade downgrade, now it takes many orders of magnitude more time, i.e. it's a slow piece of sh1t.
It's going downhill or so it seems to me. What a waste of development efforts.
In essence, my question is what are the possible alternatives. I like good bookmark management (with folders and search function) and cloud syncing. I despise explicit and/or slow interface animations, I despise unnecessary crap getting in the way of my high FoV. The more flexibility and options the better.
C'mon, say something.
