Hey i will be buying one of these phones / pdas tom
either a mpx 300 with GSM 850 / GSM 1800 / GSM 1900
or xda 2s
or xda 2i
plz help which one should i buy - price is not a factor i just need something thts real good more like the best out of the 3
You do know that the XDA2i is 900 triband, right? (Just asking because you specified the 850 model of the MPX)
yup
Yeah i do know tht but well i m just confused about which cell to get formyself - i hav the option of getting any of these right now - comeon ppl ust a one word reply would do
I can't recommend the MPX -- it doesn't have enough memory (only 32MB, IIRC). If you don't plan on running lots of applications, that may be OK for you. If you do go for the MPX make sure you get one of the production units; as I understand it, the pre-production units can't be upgraded.
So that leaves the IIi or the IIs. If you're planning on using the phone in the US (especially on Cingular), go for the IIs; Cingular's network in many places uses the 850 MHz band, which the IIi doesn't have. I've had a SX66 (basically the IIs without the camera) for almost 4 months now and have been very happy with it.

Guys, I'm really interested on buying the Touch Cruise. I read everywhere that this phone connects to 3G networks worldwide.
However, according to the specs of GSM Arena, this phone is connects to HSDPA 2100 and HSDPA 850 / 1900 - US version.
THIS IS WHAT INTRIGUED ME! "US VERSION"!
Are there two versions of this phone?
I live in Brazil where carriers connect to 3G networks in different frequencies. Some on 850 MHz, and most on 2100 MHz.
I thought this phone had only one version!
Thanks!
No, there are not 2 versions. They just denoted 850/1900 as US to make it simpler for US customers to know that their bands are supported. All Touch Cruise's have all 3G bands.
Thank you very much! This is exactly what I wanted to hear! I'm going to NY in august, and I plan to buy the phone there.
I saw this store: MobileCity. The price there for the Polaris is $749.
Maybe it'll be cheaper in August!
ah... what the heck - maybe I'll change my mind in August and buy another!
One more thing: In your opinion, Polaris or Kaiser?
I think if you do a search on the forum you will find a thread where the differences are discussed. In summary, Kaiser has a keyboard if you are more comfortable using that (if you anticipate using it a lot). The Kaiser is bulkier/heavier than the TC. The TC has a built-in FM radio, don't think the Kaiser has that. They are very similar functionally. Do a search and check out that thread for more details.

My answer: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=349751
Hi guys, I recently acquired an HTC Wizard, I unlocked it and flashed a custom rom and I really like the phone but I'm looking to upgrade. The phones I've been looking at are the Dream, Kaiser and the Fuze. I've read the reviews on the G1 and it looks good but I'm not sure I'm ready to give up windows mobile (office is handy for work). But since I hear such good things, hows it compare to the others? Is the Fuze really worth me shelling out more cash over the Kaiser (about $150-$200 on ebay)? I'm also wondering if there are any other HTC models that offer everything I want without seriously breaking the bank. It needs to have mp3, video, net, keyboard, GPS, 3g, wifi, tetherable, touchscreen and needs to be unlockable or T-mobile based. Basically just looking for some advice on the best buy for my buck. Even if it's not necessarily an HTC (hope I don't get flamed for this =P). Also one more quick question, if I'm currently on T-mobile with the non 3g wizard and I pop my sim into a 3g phone, it will work at 3g speeds without me needing to do anything (provided coverage is in my area) ? Thanks in advance.
I miss my Fuze. I ended up returning it to get a Xperia, and I regret it, due to the Xperia's subpar keyboard.
On the other hand, the Touch Pro 2 will be out soon in the US (as the HTC Fortress on AT&T at an indeterminate date and the T-Mobile Wing II in July), and that should be everything the Fuze is and more (thinner, better battery life, larger and higher res screen, etc). I'd wait for that.
As for the sim swap question, yes, it should work, assuming the phone you pop your T-Mobile sim in supports 3G at 850MHz, as that's the only frequency T-Mobile uses for 3G (as opposed to AT&T, which uses 850 and 1900 depending on area). If you use a Euro phone, expect it to only work in 1900MHz areas in the US if at all. Phones actually marketed for the US will support both 850 and 1900 bands, which means you won't have a problem.
Thanks for the info. Any idea on the cost of the touch pro 2? I wasn't really looking to break the bank but I am intrigued.

Welcome to the forum
Depending on your conuntry the price varies
Have a look on expansys to ha an idea
$600-$800USD
That's without a contract, of course. AT&T and T-Mobile should both have the Touch Pro 2 for $150-300 depending on where you order it with plans, if my guess is accurate.
Yea just checked out a video on it and it looks really nice, I'm currently on a prepaid month to month thingy with t-mobile but if I can score this phone for $200 or so with a new contract I might have too. However for the time being I might have to go pick up a Kaiser, they are half the price of the fuze used and although not as sexy still do everything I'm looking for.
Doesn't T-mobile use 1700mhz for 3g and 850 for edge/gprs? From what I've been reading the kaiser wont do 3g on T-mobile.

It does operate on GSM but I don't know if t-mobile's HSDPA network would be compatible. I'm so disappointed that there are no good android phones announced for t-mobile at CES
Actually rumor has it that the LG Optimus 2x will be coming to T-Mobile.

No. I am assuming that Motorola didn't pentaband this phone and you are stuck to using EDGE if you are on T-Mobile.

2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100
I don't know about US but this means it will work on every Australian carrier, toot!
That sucks. I'm on Mobilcity in Canada and I hope to give my G1 to my dad and get a Atrix if it comes to t-mobile.
It sucks that t-mobile always gets lame phones.

T-Mobile Compromise on great phones
T-Mobile ranks 4th (practically Last Place) in US because they hardly ever get the latest great phones. They always are a step or two below what the top 3 have. Atrix for AT&T but Cliq-2 for T-Mo!!! what a difference. I've been with T-Mo for over 7 years & every time a great phone is announced I want to switch carrier and I finally decided to switch in order to get the Atrix. Hope, Moto learn from Samsung Galaxy & start releasing it to all carriers.
Tmobile was the first GHZ phone in the US, the ever popular HD2 anyone, which is still alive and kicking even today.
Just wait a few months. AT&T acquired tmobile and will be fully integrated by December (rumoured).
Hi all I have a British Gas Panasonic CF-P2 Toughbook phone.
It uses Windows Mobile 2003 SE PDA edition with phone.
http://toughbook.wikispaces.com/CF-P2
The units are either gsm 850 and 1900 or quad band 2g.
There is not much information on the units.
They are all unlocked and are capable if class 10 gprs (FAST i know).
anyone have any ideas what data settings I would use for ATT usa?
The phone is really for when I travel and go on scuba trips as it is fully rugged. Data is really not a big deal But I must have it working. any help would help.
BTW these units were made in 2006 by panasonic just for British Gas Using us and canada gsm bands (however people say they work over in europe to so it is understood that why they were listed as gsm 850 and 1900 they were probably quad band). the unit does work here in us on both 850 and 1900 used it all day on tuesday.
So, somewhat soon (September 30th), I'm going to US for a small interchange. I'm staying there for 16 days (11 days in Dallas, 5 days in NY), so I plan on getting a pre paid SIM card. Plan on spending 20 dollars top.
Which carrier can offer me the most possible SMS, and to a less extend, data, going for the best price-benefict relation... I won't be using it all the time, but I guess 100 SMS top and data in case of emergency...
I don't care much about calling, so no need for it.
Have a Sony Xperia S, so I guess T Mobile won't work since it uses a different frequency than my phone (GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900, HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100). I already read Sprint is almost a no go, for the horrible reception. This seems to leave me with Verizon and AT&T.
So, which carrier and which pre paid plan should I get there?
Cheers.
