i am thinking of purchasing an italian qtek s100 - because it is cheaper than other language versions on expansys for some reason - and since i don't speak a word of italian, wanted to flash english rom to it and i wanted to find out i that is possible before i went on with the purchase.
but oh boy,,, there are simply too much infomation here!!!
i spent an hour searching through, but stil not sure how to get this done.
none of the links seem to work and too many posts say flashing is failing.
how about creating a download section with all the rom images that are available for the HTC units? what do you think???

First of all, this is an amazing forum, very exciting.
My question is if there is any reliable way to recover the device to the original settings/ROM e.g. after bad or failed ROM upgrades.
I'd like to buy a german MDA compact and burn the original qtek / i-mate ROM on it but I'm afraid of destroying the device. So I'm looking for a absolutely reliable way to restore to original state.
Found something about "sprite backup", is this one recommendable?

maybe a short click on the 'search' button might have already helped you. Try looking for rom, bootloader and backup. Also at www.compactjam.com there is a short introduction into flashing and needed tools. Last but not least www.ppc-welt.info is a recommendable german forum where you'll get answers for sure. Also take a look at www.maisfeld.de/mda which holds an actual list of frequently asked questions (and their answers of course).

Of course I searched the forum before I posted but there are so many ways and answers that I lost the overview how to dump/flash in a 100% safe way.

I'm starting a wiki that deals with all things WM6 and am looking for a bit of help. It would be great if you could help out with compiling a complete list of devices with simple, easy to follow upgrade proceedures to WM6. The website is http://www.wm6wiki.com/Devices . This is an attempt to make it easy for anyone to upgrade their device without getting lost with all the different available versions and releases.
I know personally when I came here initially looking for an upgrade for my phone I got completely lost and found myself digging through 20-page threads for hours looking for the right download link and instructions.
If you do submit something please either make it original, or dont forget to credit the original author of the guide (you hsould probably ask for their permission too!).

Well, to start off with, you haven't even told us what phone you have. If you look on the main page of the forum you can see which one relates to your phone.
Once there, you chose the right place to ask and then, well, what exactly do you want it to be like? Can you be more specific?
Perhaps once you've found the right place to post, then people in that forum can help you more than I can here....
Alternatively, you can go out and get a LG KS20 but that wouldn't be in the whole HTC spirit would it

Looking at the youtube link you provided (pl.youtube.com) it would seem that you're from Poland. If i'm right, you might have more luck finding some useful info around Polish PocketPC forums, for example:

If not, try searching for some forums in your language. Actually, after learning some basics about pocketPC's, navigating xda-developers will get much easier, even with less than perfect skills in English.

If you have KS20 that menu should be there, unless if not, do a search for KS20 Plugin. Its posted somewhere on this forum.
Ok guys let me start by saying that i have recently purchased a M5000 which came with WM5 and i am now looking to upgrade to WM6. I have to apologise in advance as it is a new unit i am a total newb so i have a few questions.
1. Do i simply install a new ROM to upgrade?
2. If so what is considered the best version and where can it be found?
3. If i upgrade do i lose all my installed programs?
The unit is currently running with the orange side bar which i find a little annoying this is the main reason for wanting to change.
Like i say i am new so i can only apologise if my questions seem a little stupid. I have tried searching the forums for the answers but to no avail.

Many thanks Orb. I did try doing a search but unfortunately there were no polls on the subject and there did seem to be a few different versions available so i was looking for advice. I have found all the info on the wiki so i will be giving it a bash this weekend. Appreciate your help though.

Cheers orb. I had already seen the that update but my dilemma was that there are several other updates available and i wasnt sure what the general feeling as to the best one was. My initial thoughts were that the tomal was the most popular due to the number of posts and posters mentioning it in their sigs.
Whats the difference between the standard and special builds?
Are there any extra system requirements for the special build?

The best recommendation is to test several! till you have the one that fits your personal needs (I have tested a lot to find mine)
And really, you have to read!
You´ll find what is the difference between
Vanilla, standard, etc ROM´s
And many many more very usefull info

Hi guys I'm new here, sorry if i may have posted in the wrong section but i do feel it's the most appropriate. And i did read the rules about making a new topic as well.
Anyway I just got my Touch Pro today and having problem with changing the language. My dad bought it for me from Taiwan and I can read mandarin/chinese fine but i prefer to be in english.
I did some Google search and apparently you can't change the language of the phone due to the rom or something?? I think it's stupid coz every fone i owned be4 can change languages. In fact, this is the first time i've seen and used a fone that doesn't let u change the language and it's quite disappointing.
Anyway, I still wanna use chinese when i type, but i mainly want english overall. Is there a way to keep both??
If it's not possible, can someone please show me how to change it to full english then?

you will need to flash your pro with an english Rom.
before you do i suggest you search the forums more
to start goto:

then select any rom according to your phone (GSM or CDMA) so do lots of search and reading first that is my advise to you and good luck.

Ok it seems that if your phone doesn't have a sim card slot, it's CDMA, but some other guy told me that his phone is CDMA but has a sim card slot, so what's going on??
