advaintage in upgrade from ROM 1.03.00 WWE - JAM, MDA Compact, S100 Software Upgrading

I have a brand new JAM with ROM 1.03.00WWE which I used on O2.
most things work: can't get it to synch remotely over VPN, photos appear snowy. Is the a point to upgrade to higher ROM version? what advantages can I exepct and if there are any can someone pls point to a location that explains the in and outs of upgrading and where the upgrade file is?
Many thnx

I know how you feel
Ditto, I'm looking for the exact same thing you are. Where to point to a location that explains the in and outs of upgrading and where the upgrade file is? BTW, I know where the upgrade files are at for the Jam and the MDA compact, regarding the compact, there isn't any upgrade as of yet

Hi
Can you send me the link to the relevant file?
I have have upgraded my PDA2K successfully so I know generally what needs to be done for ROM upgrades and can share it with you.
thnx
RG

What file are you exactly looking for?

the file containing the latest ROM upgrade for WWE JAM that has been reported to work. I understood from your last posting you knew where it is.

From my understanding the new WWE Jam Rom is not that stable, but I may be wrong

need the older generic world wide english rom 1.06.00

Help! I need the imate generic world wide english 1.06.00 rom. I upgraded to 1.11.00 and have to many problems. The older rom is no longer on the imate site. Can some one please give me a download link or upload to a server for me.
Thanks, Terry
Same here, I'd love to go back to the v1.06 Rom which had behaved perfectly for me, none of the commonly reported problems. Since putting 1.11 on I now get the GPRS re-connect problem and sometimes the hang-up (or not) call problem. I did have a copy of this when I upgraded from the original rom but I managed to leave it on a PC in Oz which has now been re-formatted.
I can provide any imate phone edition roms or v1.11 jam rom if required.
Cheers
Jim
I need one as well.
I logged in to imate ftp server and found following three files appearing to be 1.06 ROM. Anyone has an idea, which one, if any, is a right one for US 850 version JAM?
JAM_10605_169_10500_ship.exe
JAM_10603_168_10500_ship.exe
JAM_10604_172_10500_ship.exe
Ignar,
Judging by the current file names I think the versions are as follow:
_169_ is either the US or Portuguese version
_168_ is a Spanish version
_172_ is not listed
How did you get into the ftp site?
ftp://ftp.clubimate.com
Thanks. I will try 169 one.

Updating T-Mobile MDA Compact Firmware

I've been reading a few post on firmware update, but am getting really confused with all thats out there.
I have just got a UK T-Mobile MDA Compact, has there been any firmware updates for it? Can't seem to find any on their website.
I want to update my rom to the Qtek 1.11 firmware mentioned on other post, but instructions are scattered all over the place and files are really hard to find.
Would it be possible for someone to post the necessary files needed to update a MDA to Qtek firmware, and simple steps to follow.
I would be extremely greatful as I am new to all of this and I think it would also benefit a lot of people.
Thanks
it is explained a lot of times, just do some reading!!
problem is a lot of the download links are broken and does not exsits on the ftp site
I'd agree that the process of uprading the ROM is to be found in several threads on this site (although finding a location for the files is harder!), but what I've not seen explained clearly is the process to backup the original T-Mobile ROM and how to restore this if it all fails.
What do you use to backup the T-Mobile ROM and how can that be restored?
What T-Mobile specific settings need to be carried over to any new ROM and how is this done?
Hi..
I am rather new in this area. I have an MDA compact (imate JAM). What I want to know is why do u want to upgrade the ROM..? what are the advantages of doing it.?

Upgrade questions (I have read old posts :)

Hi,
I went through a lot of old posts, but still have some confusions that hopefully you guys can help me out.
I just brought a used imate jam 900/1800/1900 last week. It's running ROM version 1.03.00 WWE Radio version 1.01.00 ExtROM version 1.03.141 WWE. I wanted to upgrade the firmware but i don't have access to imate.com. The guy who sold me the phone had already registered the IMEI # and I'm having problems contacting him.
I have some questions regarding the upgrades.
1) I checked the xda ftp site for new ROMS under Magician/Shipped ROMs folder, but i'm not sure if the ROMs are brand specific. (Imate/Qtek/Mini?) Is there any listing of the different shipped versions of the ROM. (I have seen something like that on a wiki page for Blueangel, but cannot find one for the magician) Does it matter if the phone band is 900 or 850 when you apply the ROMs?
2) If I don't want to go through the patching of the ROM (Since i'm still new to it), is it true that if i find the right brand/version of the shipped rom update that i can just run the upgrade exe file to flash the ROM and I'll be fine?
3) I read a lot of old post regarding backup/upgrade. It seems to be that the d2s command without supplying the address will only backup the ROM but not the ExtROM or Radio. Does anyone know what the correct series of commands to backup everything? The ones that i saw seems to be XDA II specific, and i thought the Magician has a different ROM layout (I saw it somewhere on the wiki page)
4) In general, any things to watch out for while doing the upgrades? What is the most stable version so far? I have heard that 1.11 is more stable than 1.12.
Thanks a lot guys. I can't wait to upgrade my phone b/c i'm deferring all my installs until after the upgrade so i'm using it purely as a phone now but still liking it.

HELP! Need advice reg. ROM

Hi,
I'm confused with the mass of information and complicated procedures I found here. :?
I got a HTC Magician here in Switzerland by Orange (known as SPV M500)
Operator version is: 6.06.5.164
ROM version: 1.06.00 WWE
Radio Version: 1.05.10
Protocol version 1337.39
ExtROM version: 1.06.164 WWE
I surely would like to improve the performance and especially the internal' memory by applying some upgrade.
Could a nice person guide me toward best possible solutions, please?

Thanks; I checked this link, but except some valuable information, I found the whole thing even more tough to understand. I'm not an engineer, I'm just looking for a helping hand.
So I reiterate. Can anyone answer my question?
I'll have a go:
Upgrade your ROM. Yours is about 1.06, current is 1.12 (or 1.13? Not much differnce).
Ensure there is a language version the same as yours, and then upgrade. That's a complicated enough procedure, but follow the instructions carefully provided with the ROMs and you'll be ok.
The upgrade for more memory, is the BigStorage ROM hack. This will replace the area on your phone known as "Extended Memory", and convert it into more useful "Storage" that you can use. Basically, your phone gains 20mb of usable space. I've written an ENORMOUS post about this here (near the bottom of the screen)
To do BigStorage, you should use a tool floating around on the board that will patch ANY rom to BigStorage. That way, you can hack your own ROM for this. This is important because the first 400bytes or so of your ROM are unique to you, and you want to keep that. So I recommend:
1. Backup your PPC with Sprite backup or similar.
2. Upgrade your ROM to 1.12 (public sources or from the XDA Developers FTP site).
3. Make a backup of your ROM (optional, but advised).
4. Apply the BigStorage ROM hack.
You may be able to skip 4 if you can find the ROM you want at (2) already hacked. This is likely. But whatever you do, follow the instructions provided carefully. There are a couple of errors that are SUPPOSED to come up in the procedure. Read the instructions and you'll know what's supposed to happen.
Phew. It takes some learning, but you'll get there.

Hi Vijay,
You're great, many many thanks!! I assume I got a tough way to go. So I'll do it slowly so as to avoid mistakes.
My device' language is English, so no prob to upgrade with English. Now I guess I'll have to install manually the GPRS and WAP' parameters after upgrading, given the ROM does not come from my operator, isnt'it?
Orange M500 Upgrade
Hello. I too am thinking about upgrading my Orange M500 from 1.06.00 to the latest ROM. I have an Orange UK version of the phone. But 2 problems:
1. I have trawled all sites I can think of (including this one) and can't find an appropriate upgrade file anywhere - is anyone able to post a link?
2. I can't find anywhere that tells me what the advantages of upgrading are! Anyone fancy listing them?
Thanks!
Tom

Same here, I could not find information on what is improved (or not) with any of the existing ROM upgrades.
Surely they must be UP, but still it's strange there's no comment.
vijay555,
I am also fairly new with updating roms and such but I did manage to complete an update with the help of this amazing site and all of you guys out there. Your knowledge and advice has been wonderful and I thank all of you. Now, here is my question. I have a TMobile MDA from Germany I believe but with ROM ver 1.12.00WWE
Rom date 05/28/05
Radio ver 1.13.00
Potoc ver 1337.43
ExtRom ver 1.12.128 WWE
I have wanted to try the bigstorage rom but in reading all the posts and helpers I feel it is too much for me to copy to SD and yada yada yada. Am I understanding you correctly in assuming that in the xda FTP I would find a pre made bigstorage rom that I could upgrade onto my unit. I understand that I would probably have to re upgrade my radio unless there was a BS rom that had the latest radio in it. Would I be able to ask you that if I am right in assuming this do you know which of the roms I would use in the FTP site to give me that pre made BSrom and which "make" would or should I use(such as O2, orange) I line in Victoria, BC, Canada but I dont think that affects what "make" I should use, or does it? Sorry this is so long winded and I thank you in advance for your help.
Todd

It's all very well explained.
As to which version of wm6 should put, it depends on you.
Greetings.
I use the crossbow 2.12.08 version. Initially with radio 1.15 then upgraded to radio 1.18.
Reason is that roaming with radio 1.18 seems to be better. but so far is seems only more unstable.
However the Crossbow is very nice and I can not find any major problems.
Very satisfied and been using it for some months now.
The link is easily found on this forum and after the download you simply connect the pda to your computer, unzip the program on your computer and run the application.
the rest is easy. no big issues or special knowledge required.
note my pda already was unlocked
just give it a try !
or download some wm6 and wm5 versions and try each one.
the installation is easy and more or less the same. probably best start trying the wm5 and then move on to wm6
good luck!
