Upgrade questions (I have read old posts :) - JAM, MDA Compact, S100 Software Upgrading

Hi,
I went through a lot of old posts, but still have some confusions that hopefully you guys can help me out.
I just brought a used imate jam 900/1800/1900 last week. It's running ROM version 1.03.00 WWE Radio version 1.01.00 ExtROM version 1.03.141 WWE. I wanted to upgrade the firmware but i don't have access to imate.com. The guy who sold me the phone had already registered the IMEI # and I'm having problems contacting him.
I have some questions regarding the upgrades.
1) I checked the xda ftp site for new ROMS under Magician/Shipped ROMs folder, but i'm not sure if the ROMs are brand specific. (Imate/Qtek/Mini?) Is there any listing of the different shipped versions of the ROM. (I have seen something like that on a wiki page for Blueangel, but cannot find one for the magician) Does it matter if the phone band is 900 or 850 when you apply the ROMs?
2) If I don't want to go through the patching of the ROM (Since i'm still new to it), is it true that if i find the right brand/version of the shipped rom update that i can just run the upgrade exe file to flash the ROM and I'll be fine?
3) I read a lot of old post regarding backup/upgrade. It seems to be that the d2s command without supplying the address will only backup the ROM but not the ExtROM or Radio. Does anyone know what the correct series of commands to backup everything? The ones that i saw seems to be XDA II specific, and i thought the Magician has a different ROM layout (I saw it somewhere on the wiki page)
4) In general, any things to watch out for while doing the upgrades? What is the most stable version so far? I have heard that 1.11 is more stable than 1.12.
Thanks a lot guys. I can't wait to upgrade my phone b/c i'm deferring all my installs until after the upgrade so i'm using it purely as a phone now but still liking it.

T-Mobile MDA Compact

Hi all ,
As you can guess another newbie  , spent quite a while browsing through this forum and have found some interesting stuff .
I have just purchased the above on T-Mobile and i'm looking to mod away but i would like to start from a fresh non branded WM2003 SE .
This is what i have found on my phone
ROM Version 1.12.00 WWE
ROM Date 05/28/05
Radio Version 1.12.00
EXT ROM Version 1.12.152 WWE
Is this the latest ROM if not could anyone advise on the latest .
cheers
Mark
Same here
I have applied BigStorage, but this is the same ROM I am using from TMobile.
I haven't had any problems with it, seems quite stable. Unless you need something fixed I'd leave it.
If either of you has a backup copy of the original rom can you please make it available as the one on the FTP appears to be corrupt.

Help for a starter!

Hi guys, I am a new on ths forum and with te prophet. After using a hima for 3 years, I bought a prophet today. Since I was at wm2005 aku 3.5 with my hima, I cannot use my pim.vol any more with my current rom version, which is
Rom version 2.9.7.24 WWE
Rom date 2/9/2006
Radio 02.07.20
Protocol 413.1.03
Extrom 2.9.7.106
This is all new for me and I am hoping that someone could post me or PM me some advice on newer roms and how to upgrade. I also found a version with G3 or G4. What is the difference and what do I need to use.
This device works different, but it look very nice.
Can I re-use some of my old (hima) applications on this machine?
Thanks very much in advance. I hope to have as much pleasure on this forum as I had on the hima forum!
1. you can get some of the old apps working on wm5 devices, but not all of them.
2. check your device for G3-G4 issue here: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=prophet_g3g4_how
3. good thing if you have time to read this: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Prophet
it will answer most of your questions on how to upgrade your ROM. read it three or four times: i'm not kidding - you may ruin your device if you miss something.
If I can hijack this thread for a second... is there any way to backup whatever ROM we have on a CID locked device? cause it seems kinda pointless to have to CID unlock the device (which involves FLASHING a completely new rom, overwriting the old), to open the backup feature at which point is useless since we've lost the original rom.

why not? just download your original ROM from this site or official site of qtek, jamin or whatever your device is.
afaik you CID unlock the device to be able to flash different ROMs (for example, to flash jamin with qtek ROM) and to be able to return back to your original ROM.

Confusion about ROM versions

Hey,
Sorry for the stupid question, but I just can't find the info I'm looking for. I've checked the wiki and a lot of threads here but can't figure it out.
The wiki links to the FTP to show two ROMs I could download, but doesn't explain anything about them.
RUU_Prophet_2090724_20907106_020720_QtekWWE_Ship.exe
RUU_Prophet_220734_2207114_024721_QtekWWE_Ship.exe
Am I right to guess that the first one is a very old version and the second one is the latest? If the second one is the latest, is it not available at clubimate just because clubimate is out of date? Also, shayd linked to JAMin_WWE_213923_2139123_022021_ship.zip in a recent thread saying it's the latest official. If the ones in the wiki aren't official, what are they?
I'm currently running 2.13.9.23 on a G4 JAMin. This is what I put on from clubimate not long after I got the phone.
Also, I've looked at a few of the custom ROMs floating around here and they're interesting. However, I know that I don't know enough about this to just try upgrading to one, for fear of bricking my phone. Is there a recommended one, and would it void my warranty?
Thanks, and sorry again for the stupid questions.
As you probably know by now, the HTC prophet is sold (among others) by Qtek as S200 and by imate as Jamin. Hardware is identical so ROMS are compatible too. What you found on ftp are official ROMS by Qtek (ver 2.09 and ver 2.2).
Imate's latest version is 2.13, which is what you have installed at the moment.
Dopod's latest version is 2.15, while Qtek's latest version is 2.2. They're all official ROMS and will work on your device providing it's CID unlocked (search forum for CID unlocking). Just FYI, CID locking is used to prevent you from loading other carrier's ROMs.
Regarding customised ROMS, yes they're interesting but unfortunately they all have bugs.
Qtek's latest version 2.2

Thus meaning that, as I have an Imate JAMin, I could install Qtek's latest version 2.2 and it would be OK? Where do I find that??? Thanks in advance.
Thanks kta.
When i-mate's v2.13 is compared to the qtek v2.2, are those numbers relative to each other, or just arbitrary? I'm asking so that I can figure out if 2.2 is actually better than 2.13.
Also, am I right to assume that if my phone died while qtek's 2.2 rom was on there, my warranty would be void?
cheers,
James

You will be OK if you update it with Qtek's 2.2. There is one on xda ftp here: ftp://xda:[email protected]_S200_2.20.7.34_2.47.21_2.20.7.114_WWE.zip.
To avoid the ROM update utility telling you "Wrong Country ID" or something like that, make sure you use a ROM Update Utility with No vendor Id (probably included in the zip file).

Hi James,
The version numbers are relative to each other and Qtek's 2.2 is a better version based on a more recent WM5 release.
Regarding warranty, well, you'd have to check what Imate's policy is. I never had an imate myself but I had a similar experience with a T-Mobile device. I sent it back for repair under warranty and it had another carrier's ROM and they didn't complain. But Imate's policies could be different.
Thanks heaps kta. Very informative. I'll contact i-mate.
Quick question...
Does anyone know if qtek's 2.2 ROM has the laggy SIP switch popup issue?

Lost - Latest UK T-Mobile branded rom - help!

Can someone link me to the latest proper T-mobile UK rom please? So I can restore it all back to stock.
I need to send phone in for repair, lost where I dumped my rom. I can only find on the wicki/on here links to NL T-Mobile roms.
T-Mobile site has nothing for the mdaIII (kaiser).
Much appreciated,
Greg.
Failing that - anyone got a T-Mobile UK rom they dumped from their own phone?
Greg.
Found this on Google. If it's what your after, can you let us know and someone (or you) will upload it and update the wiki.

What about http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1586817&postcount=2 (6th one down i think) taken from the FAQ, Wiki, Stickies & Tutorials thread? is that one not any good?
paradoox
Paradoox - it might be, thankyou. But it is listed as OS Only Big Storage - I presume this isn't how T-mobile shipped my Kaiser. The other one DaveShaw is listed as OS only so I presume it won't put my radio/splash back etc, like the one above.
Are either any use do you think if I want to put my Kaiser back exactly as it was out the box?
Greg.
hiya,
iv flashed the reconstructed rom iv refered to before, and it works fine, the original tmobile splash screen is here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=374190 (post 5). im supposing you know how to flash it
in regards to the original radio, i honestly cant remember what it was. check out the kaiser ultimate radio thread, if i find out, il let you know.
paradoox
p.s the rom is reconstructed but as far as im aware its exactly the same as a normal release rom, its just someone has taken the tmobile uk operating system end product from a kaiser and made it into a rom as it has not been officially released. it flashes in exactly the same way as you'd flash anything else.
i have sent mine back one with a duttys rom on it, the technical support are that stupid they probably dont even know that flashing software on the device is even possible
i would say as long as u have the tmobile splash rom on it and 6.0, they wont even know the difference

Topaz help needed

Hello there.
I'm a totally new as for modifying PDAs, and I've been reading the Topaz forums, since I recently got one of those, but I find it really hard to understand the needed steps to upgrade it.
I read about how good the Nataly ROM is, but I know nothing about how to install it. My questions are:
It mentions Windows Mobile v6.5, but my PDA came with v6.1. How can I upgrade it?
What does it mean "manila"? I've seen it mentioned with different versions.
Is there a difference between Nataly's and a radio ROM? Can I use them simultaneously?
Do I need to do anything special to upgrade to these ROMs? I think my phone is SIM unlocked already.
My GSM provider is TIGO, in Colombia.
Thank you very much for your support, and I hope I don't get hated for these questions.
1. to flash a cooked rom u need to hardspl unlock which u can find here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=520312
for more information go to topaz rom development section
2. manila is the graphical thing with the slider on the bottom
the latest manila is 2.1 and in the new official rom on htc.com
theres another version called sense and available only in cooked roms
3. about the radios: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=547276
4. there is no need to sim unlock the phone. u need to flash the hard-spl of olinex (1.83 version )
nobody gets hated for questions just for the laziness of not using the search function
here u can find everything about topaz http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=478
