i think they're just lying and don't know what they're talking about... if they were to release a new rom other than the current one why would they post this rom to start with!!?!! or maybe they just stole qtek's rom and post it as their own.!!! this is getting really annoying.
this will be my last ppc based phone...
You're a bit suspicious but you're right, it's strange...
How could they ever stole Qtek's ROM? The cab files in imate's rom are tottaly different versions! Just think that behind the basic ROM is HTC and not Qtek or Imate! And as for the pocketpc based phones could you give me a better option that can provide me with all that software that exists for the Microsoft platform and works without any problems and most of all is tottaly compatible with outlook and M$ office? I would be glad to buy such a device! :twisted:
At least lets just wait and give them a chance to prove theirselfs wrong first and then shoot them on the head! :lol: They said they will release it tommorow, personally I will give them a couple of days more and then see what happens! On the past imate used to support their devices with the best and fastest ROMs, so just give them a chance! Even with their 1.06 ROM I am happy with my MDA Compact! It works almost like a dream and the only problem is the BT no device problem and that is far more stable than Qtek's ROM :wink:
I just learned from a Qtek representative that Qtek is actually HTC's own brand. So buying a Qtek device would be like buying a device with a Sony Ericsson or Nokia brand instead of an operator brand like O2 or Vodafone.

you are right, but the problem is, i have tried almost all brands and i have never had a problem with the quality of the call... with this jam when someone calls i can hardly understand what they are saying!! i mean this is the first phone that made me lose friends because i can't hear them good... i have tried the 1.5 radio it fixed some problems but now the sound of the earpiece is very low resulting in losing the rest of my friends -lol- and there are other problems with the phone such as the cam but if they fix the sound that is the most important.....
btw sonyericsson makes the best phones I’m waiting for their next Pxxx series

On the sound issue I am with you! And hear what happened to me! I used to have my MDA Compact (German) flashed with imate's 1.03 ROM the sound on the internal speaker was good when I was talking to someone on the phone! Then I flashed Radio 1.05 and 1.06 from Qtek that made my internal speaker not working while its sound was low and was coming and go all the time, simply it was unusable! The good thing for me is that 99,9% of my calls I answer them by my BT handsfree so it was no problem for me! The funny thing is that when I flashed my MDA Compact with imate's ROM the sound come back again on the speaker and its great since then! I really don't know what really happened but HTC should do something soon for this issue since IT IS the most annoying problem on JAM. As for Sony Ericsson they definately have the best sound quality on their phones! But they dont have a Microsoft operating system! I was a fanatic PXXX user but when I first used a Toshiba e800 and then a Qtek2020 I really can't go back to SE! I only wish SE will make a Microsoft based smartphone and I am sure the competition will go home that same day!
There was removed the WWE version of ROM 1.06 from the I-mate club site...they says it will be available tomorrow...it could be possible they are making some patches...or am I just wondering... :roll:

i read an article a while ago, that microsoft are to talk to nokia about a future collaboration bwtween them and sonyericsson with nokia ... so the dream might come true

I will never buy a Nokia in my life! Their service here in Greece is the most awful service worldwide! And after Nokia 6310 they never managed to make a reliable phone after that model! More than that my brother in law has the local Sonyericsson service point and from what I hear from him neither Nokia nor Sonyericsson are planning to release a Microsoft operating system based phone! Especially Nokia who is the basic share holder of symbian would be like suiciding by releasing a M$ phone! They only plan to make some software parts compatible with Microsoft as the music playing you mentioned above. Maybe MAYBE Sonyericsson would do something but that seems to be far far away at the moment! I hope MDA IV will be a good device and that HTC will show its maturity after being in the market for a long time now by that model! So my expectations for MDA IV are very high! Lets see if HTC will meet those expectations this time! If they only manage to get the 2005 version of Windows mobile in MDA IV!!!!!!! :roll:

Don't count on additional BT profiles, after all, we are talking Microsoft there ;-)
However, first impression:
Bluetooth is stable, no BT Hardware Errors anymore
PS My JAM was not in discoverable more, I fired up my BT Headset HBH-600 to pair it, and before I got to putting the HBH-600 in pairing mode, it's discovery-"beeps" were picked up by the JAM, that suddenly asked me whether I wanted to pair with the headset. Does anyone know whether that was already available in 1.03??

Update: Oops, a bit quick on da draw here ... first "BT Hardware no installed" error just popped up, although it seems to occur less frequently ...
uploading, under Magician/Shipped ROM upgrades/ma_cdlsku1_10600_110_10500_ship.exe - hope this helps.
and I hope this is right place to upload this sort of files, I'm a newbie !

I installed the "ma_cdlsku1_" ROM today, and I immediately got the BT Hardware no installed crap. Damn, I did not load the ROM Upgrade from last wekk, because I heard so many complaints and I heard there were BT issues.
Honestly I do not think this ROM Upgrade was developed to fix BT issues, but was focused on the audio problems.
How does all this work? Who controls ROM Upgrades? HTC or the Carrier-in this case I-Mate? I know the extended ROM is played with by the Carriers (I-Mate, T-Mobile, Qtek, etc), but who really drives the upgrade and how much ability does the Carrier (I-Mate) have to customize the ROMs or provide fixes?
For instance this ROM Upgrade was taken off so it could be fixed. Was I-Mate working on the fix or were they waiting on HTC to provide a fix?
If I-Mate is driving all this-God help us. I mean come-on they have yet to state any reason other than server download issues for removing last weeks rom and posting this weeks.
Sigh ... I don't know guys ... again the BT issues are present, so my hunch it's an overall OS issue of the 1.06 base ROM itself, therefore within Microsoft/HTC's responsibility. (after all, the new Qtek rom also suffers from it)
I`m thinking to downgrade to ver. 1.03 with radio stack 1.05...cause I have to soft reset 3-5 times a day with the 1.06 ROM updated.... :evil:

this rom is the same as previous. just check the checksums of files. they are identical. only thing that imate change is file name.

Imate --- sux, I'll not buy anything from them anymore...
did you guys install the ext-rom stuff? specifically the BTxxx.cab? Does it help? i haven't received the no hardware prompt yet. but i don't use bt for headset only sending files and activesync.
I haven't upgraded yet.. thank goodness and well I appreciate all your feedback so basically I am not forcing myself to upgrade.

I know this question comes up in every phone forum at least once, so I thought it is time for the Tornado forum as well.
I am trying to decide between the SP5 and the 8310.
For me, fast ROM updates is the important factor. Support, schmupport, that I can get it here much better than from any tech support line.
To this day, I have owned 3 imate products. Although I like the fact that they have ROM updates, I am disgusted by how they don't back up their products. I had a JasJar that became a brick within a week I had it, and for a whole month they lied through their teeth to me about how they were just about to help me, just wait 2 more days.
So, not wanting to give them any more business, I am looking at the Qtek now, but how is the ROM update situation? Do they have a ROM update for the 8310 yet? (imate does) Do they post rom updates in a timely manner?
I have the Qtek, no ROM updates yet that I'm aware of. You can put the iMate ROMs on it if you like.

there was a forum post a while back on some random forum, some guy offering a 'upgrade' service to crossbow, dont know whether it was legit or not
but, by the looks of it, the same way the himalaya recieved a WM5 rom aaaages ago, apparently, there the tornado will be doing so too. lets just hope theres enough people on these forums who will be able to develop the rom further!
am waiting for it too. the guy was was offering $30 for the upgrade but never responded to my email. must be out there somewhere

Yes, you are right. Infact, it is priced higher that the comparitively newer JasJam($999). JasJar is priced at $1049 :\ Indeed odd.

Well, IMHO, all vendors should give WM6 upgrade to their WM5 devices since MS is not charging anything from them to do the upgradation.
Just saw somewhere on the web that the HP has announced to give their hx2xxx owners free WM6 upgrade. Now, thats too cool
I was thinking about the selling of my Qtek 9000, because Im looking for someting new (my favourite is Imate Ultimate 7150), but the official WM6 upgrade is good reason why still stay with Universal

JasJar , Qtek, Dpod.. the same things. If there is JasJar WM6 ROM, we can upload it on Qtek as well

afaik, HTC dont support the Universal with WM6, meaning that carriers can't either.
Most likely some n00b was updating the website and suck the wm6 stuff on jasJAR Rather than jasJAM (Which IS getting WM6, and yet it isnt mentioned here: http://www.imatephonestore.com/product.asp?itemMDL=IMATE_JASJAM)

Well, may be imate wants to sell the ones still left in the stock. Also, since MS didnt take any money for the upgrade to WM6, may be one of the imate rom makers made a ROM for JasJar to attract the people to buy it

But, imate has not yet announced to offer WM6 upgrade, unlike htc/dopod :\
edit: also, since imate has divorced htc from quite a long time, jasjam won't be getting any upgrade. afaik, jasjam is the only device which could have got the upgraded to wm6 because it was manf by htc. After jasjam, they came with the non-htc products
