Prepay GPRS, which operator? - General Topics

Anyone help me out here. I get my upgrade very soon and I'm going for a traditional phone 'cause I don't see enough major differences in the 2i , mini, or 2s to warrant me spending £200.
So I want to put my XDA II on a prepay sim, but what the best operator to go with from a GPRS angle? I'm looking at money wise and the ability to sign into msn messenger.
Thanks

check out prepaidgsm.net - they have lots of info

XDA & 3G

Hi all,
Do you have some info as regards the availability of an XDA (all kind of model - Magician etc.) that would be compatible with the last generation of mobile network (UMTS - a.k.a. 3G)?
Thanks.
G.

there is a bastart HTC blue angle flavour which have replaced wifi with
UTMS
but i doubt that it support stuff like video phoning
partly because ms dont have any software to handle it right now
and also because the cam is on the other side of the device
and htc seem to be working on a true 3g ms pda phone aswell

I do hope this comes out in the UK. Then I can sell my XDA II on ebay for lots of money, buy this new handset and stick a 3 uSIM in it (on a nice cheap 3 staff tarriff... )
are 3 really that cheap ?
here they have free normal gsm calls between 3 users but other then that they are nowhere near as cheap as the cheap ones

GPRS settings for Turkey?? (URGENT)

Hi all,
Sorry for the short notice but I only just thought of this:
I have an XDAII with a voda sim in it, which is unlocked for international use:
I am going to Turkey tomorrow (Friday 29th April) can I get my GRPS to work over there with this sim??
Does anyone know the Settings I need to use and how much it may cost??
The plan is to speak to the family with MSN-messenger
Thanks very much Ian.
I used my O2 XDAII in Turkey last year without any problems on Turkcell. In fact the GPRS was much better than here!

Is there a device that....

I travel between the UK and US regularly. Is there a Windows 5.0 device that has high speed data in both the US and UK. I don't mind having two accounts US and UK and switching sim cards. It seems to me that its either one or the other. 3G or evdo/edge ?? Maybe I am missing something. Thanks in advance.
Bryan
hmmm then u go for a xda atom , it got edge as all know that also after 2-3 rom upgrades its problems r solved now so go for it
US/UK device advice
When I was back in the US last year, I found that many places had very bad coverage using only a triband phone. To ensure the best coverage and the possibility of EDGE, I went with the Dopod 818 Pro. It also didn't hurt that I could get a 2GB SD card and 2 screen protectors for less than the price of the Atom.
Cheers,
Steve

HTC TyTN II (Kaiser) 3g on Tmobile US network

Hi all,
Can anyone confirm that the Kaiser can fully utilize 3g data on the TMobile US 3g network? I have seen several (old) articles that pre-date the release of the Kaiser saying it may be the 'first 3g windows mobile phone available'. I have the opportunity to get an AT&T tilt from someone I know, but before I go through the process of unlocking the sim and flashing the ROM I'd like to know if it is worth my while. I've been waiting for the pharos traveler 137 to be released for a few months now but I know that Tmobile has no interest in carrying it ( I talked to a few service reps, and they just play dumb and say they've never heard of pharos or a 3g capable WM phone). So without the plan upgrade discount the phone is going to be $600, all for the luxury of using the 3g network on a phone that actually supports msexchange email.
between aardvark ( company developing ms direct push app for android), the pharos smartphone, and getting info on this TyTn II i feel like I've been doing a whole lot of waiting for a phone that has what I feel are two very basic features nowadays on other networks

Works Good Dude!! i'm in CT, in USA and have used a kaiser with my tmobile sim, works faster
unfortunately, you get Edge only. Few PPC's have tmob 3G off the wall 1700/2100 mhz radio combo. The G1 has it, and maybe a few other New PPC's.

HELP Buying Touch Pro for Australia

I live in Australia and I'm thinking about buying a Touch Pro from USA since it seems cheaper. I was wondering is there anything I have to look out for that might stop it form working here. Eg. Network issues.
I'm thinking about this one
Hi,
The phone in the link operates on the CDMA network, you'll want the GSM version (the one that uses a simcard). It is also network locked and will need to be hacked/unlocked.
Very cheap though...
Thanks
Some of them say A & T service required for some of the features. What does that mean?
you don't really need to "hack" it. just get someone to create your unlock code for you. you can get it here on xda or even ebay. I believe olinex can provide you the unlock code for a price. I can gaurantee that these guys here at xda are very helpful so dont' worry about that too much.
you should think about what band your provider in aus is using.
Good luck!
EDIT: those "features" are ATT specific and you can make those disappear. check the links on "unbloating" your phone. It's pretty annoying but it does not do anything for your phone if you don't use ATT's network. Check out the thread on flashing for beginners. Read it carefully and if you have questions, be very specific.
Thanks for the help. I been using a jasjam (hermes) with a flashed rom but the hermes is in bad condition so thinking about getting a new phone.
Dood, I'm in Aus and also upgraded to Touch Pro from JasJam.
A warning. You will not get Telstra NextG video calls. The touch pro does not operate on Telstra's band. Just in case you were/are a Telstra man...
Also, you should be able to ebay a cheap as new unit in Australia... I've seen many go for under $300.
A brand new phone for less that $300???
What are you searching "HTC touch pro"?
Touch Pro or Fuze in Australia?
Mate, check the 3G/UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA frequencies used by your provider!!!
The TP AND the Fuze will work AS PHONE in almost any GSM network (beside some Asian countries i.e. Japan) since they are 4 band GSM devices. However, using the benefits of high speed data aka 3G you have to check which band your provider is using. AFAIK Telstra is using 850/1900 which matches the ATT US network while t-mobile and the std. TP use 900/2100. IF you are with Telstra get a Fuze and it will work. People here in the US buy the HD (not offered here in the US by ATT) in Australia to operate it in the US network.
Good luck and don't get screwed.
