XDA & 3G - General Topics

Hi all,
Do you have some info as regards the availability of an XDA (all kind of model - Magician etc.) that would be compatible with the last generation of mobile network (UMTS - a.k.a. 3G)?
Thanks.
G.

there is a bastart HTC blue angle flavour which have replaced wifi with
UTMS
but i doubt that it support stuff like video phoning
partly because ms dont have any software to handle it right now
and also because the cam is on the other side of the device

and htc seem to be working on a true 3g ms pda phone aswell

I do hope this comes out in the UK. Then I can sell my XDA II on ebay for lots of money, buy this new handset and stick a 3 uSIM in it (on a nice cheap 3 staff tarriff... )

are 3 really that cheap ?
here they have free normal gsm calls between 3 users but other then that they are nowhere near as cheap as the cheap ones

O2 Graphite

Picked up the O2 Graphite from Thailand over the weekend. Would it be possible to create a new forum for the phone ? Will post a little mini review of the phone
O2 graphite is an Asus.. we have great discrimination on non-HTC devices or else, the site may have been flooded with devices from HP, Asus, Treo.. although we have an exception of the Atom.
BTW I think there are folks who are looking at P525 cooked ROMs, etc on the forums. Not a problem. Just wanted to inform people about the new smartphone phone - its pretty a solid offering and beats the Breeze - but like most Windows devices, its not without it own oddities. Thanks
Someone knows if the 3G function will work in Israel (Orange Network)?
I think the Graphite is working on 2100 mHz, right? Whats it in Israel?
Orange Israel rep. told me they don't hand 3g sim cards to be installed in phones they do not market. You don't actually have to buy the phone from them it just has to be a model they work with. And since they don't sell any windows mobile smartphones they wouldn't give me a 3g sim card :-(

What would you buy ?

Tragedy has struck! The Touch Pro I bought overseas has died on me : (
Since this was an overseas purchase there isn't a warranty and I've already had a local shop look at repairing it (they can't).
So, I'm in the market for a replacement.
I'm now living in San Jose, CA and have given some serious thought to:
a. an HTC TP 2
b. an HTC HD T8285 (get the 3G to work in the US).
I absolutely love having a keyboard ... but maybe I could do without. Since I've had neither of these phones in my hand, I'm not sure what direction to go.
Any advice on the technical side ?

tp2 is ok, it's a slightly better tp. Not 100% worth the upgrade.
If you like the hardware keyboard, don't change. you'll be very unhappy when u go software. go for the tp again.. Atlest I would.

HTC Touch Pro2 is much better. Touch HD just had 3G and headphone jack.
Touch Pro2 for alot of productivity - keyboard
Touch HD for alot of fun - headphones, 3G
worth the wait?
I 'seems' like a US version of the TP will be available in August some time ... I could probably borrow a phone from somebody for the next few weeks. Would it be worth the wait for a US version vs. the International version? I have never used 3G so I guess I won't miss what I've never had .?.?.?
well since you are in the US, you might as well get the US version. the international one works just as well since there isn't any serious changes to it. And 3g works on both. Once you try out 3g's speed, you'll be surprised

Replacement Device X7510

Has anyone heard any rumours/updates on the next device that would replace the HTC Advantage X7510?
I had a 7501, which I replaced with HTC Shift.
I am looking for a real good messaging device and the keyboard on the advantage was awesome.
The HSPDA speeds seems dated since a number of carriers are going to be offering HSDPA+ this year.
Do you see this as co-existing with netbook or replacing a netbook?
I am in Canada, ideally device with UTMS 850/1900 would work, 2100 band does do work in Canada.
Dave
Search in google for Htc Thoth , it's a x7510 replacement , supposed to be out in September 2009 , but may delay due to Wm 6.5 / 7 os . Looks pretty superior Snapdragon processor , keyboard may be slightly improved from x7510 , hopefully it's a 32gb flash drive or similar , let's wait and see . For Shift replacement , it depends Htc Taiwan got the balls to fight it out with the rest of the world leading netbook manufacturers ! Thanks for reading and best regards - jimmunsw
a link for you

Yes good Info guys also multitouch screen, upgreadable to WM 7.0,more skinny less weight,4.8 MT 800X480 sceen, smaller size, micro sd up to 64GB instead of mini sd.
There's still a lot of confusion regarding the upcoming HTC high end devices. Some commentors are saying the HTC Leo is the successor to the Athena, though it doesn't have a hardware keyboard.
It is possible the Thoth may also appear later, like a Leo with an external keyboard but details are sketchy

HELP Buying Touch Pro for Australia

I live in Australia and I'm thinking about buying a Touch Pro from USA since it seems cheaper. I was wondering is there anything I have to look out for that might stop it form working here. Eg. Network issues.
I'm thinking about this one
Hi,
The phone in the link operates on the CDMA network, you'll want the GSM version (the one that uses a simcard). It is also network locked and will need to be hacked/unlocked.
Very cheap though...
Thanks
Some of them say A & T service required for some of the features. What does that mean?
you don't really need to "hack" it. just get someone to create your unlock code for you. you can get it here on xda or even ebay. I believe olinex can provide you the unlock code for a price. I can gaurantee that these guys here at xda are very helpful so dont' worry about that too much.
you should think about what band your provider in aus is using.
Good luck!
EDIT: those "features" are ATT specific and you can make those disappear. check the links on "unbloating" your phone. It's pretty annoying but it does not do anything for your phone if you don't use ATT's network. Check out the thread on flashing for beginners. Read it carefully and if you have questions, be very specific.
Thanks for the help. I been using a jasjam (hermes) with a flashed rom but the hermes is in bad condition so thinking about getting a new phone.
Dood, I'm in Aus and also upgraded to Touch Pro from JasJam.
A warning. You will not get Telstra NextG video calls. The touch pro does not operate on Telstra's band. Just in case you were/are a Telstra man...
Also, you should be able to ebay a cheap as new unit in Australia... I've seen many go for under $300.
A brand new phone for less that $300???
What are you searching "HTC touch pro"?
Touch Pro or Fuze in Australia?
Mate, check the 3G/UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA frequencies used by your provider!!!
The TP AND the Fuze will work AS PHONE in almost any GSM network (beside some Asian countries i.e. Japan) since they are 4 band GSM devices. However, using the benefits of high speed data aka 3G you have to check which band your provider is using. AFAIK Telstra is using 850/1900 which matches the ATT US network while t-mobile and the std. TP use 900/2100. IF you are with Telstra get a Fuze and it will work. People here in the US buy the HD (not offered here in the US by ATT) in Australia to operate it in the US network.
Good luck and don't get screwed.

[Q] will 4G mobiles work in india on 2G/3G network?

hi guys, i am planning to buy a smart phone which is android based, becaus ei am so much in love with android, its power & capabilities....
i know its the best & ideal time to buy a 3G enabled phone because, 3G service is getting rapidly deployed through out this country & its dirt cheap to subscribe for data as well as video calls....
my point is should i buy a 4G mobile form abroad which in my case is samsung infuse 4G so that when reliance & infotel launches their 4G service, i dont have to change my handset. and i am pretty sure that by the end of this year, 4G will be available in india for sure....
hence i request you all people that pls advice me on pros & cons of buying a 4G mobile & using it in India with current available networks... or should i go ahead & buy samsung galaxy s2 when its released & use it till the 4G gets fully popularised & familiarised with people with good network coverage & attractive plans.... so that i have left with no choice but to change my smart phone after 1 year....
because i am in big confusion, as i am investing big amount on this mobile... so that the investment shouldnt go wasted atleast for another 2 years pls...
suggest me whether 4G mobiles can be used in india with 2G/3G networks currently providing service in india or should i wai for 4G to be made available here..... guide me pls....
Hi manuvaidya, recently 3G services have been launched in India and you have to wait a bit long (a year or so) for 4G Spectrum services to be enabled in India as it involves huge cost for the Spectrum... Hence, once the Service providers realize their 3G money, hopefully they will be able to purchase the 4G Spectrum... Its long way to go in India..
