I've recently setup GPS in my car and now I'm looking for the right cardle for my XDA II to sit in. I want something that hooks onto the ventilation grill just to the left of the steering wheel.
What sort of cradles are you guys using? and any reccomendations on where to look for one?
Thanks
Hey,
I got one like this through ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=69929&item=5158430181&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW It's a nice enough holder, though a bit of a pain to get on, and even more of a pain to get off (the car is a Golf by the way). It's meant for the XDAii though - as you have to 'open' the XDAiis to get it to fit in properly.
However, it does come with a 'bendy arm' which you can use instead of the grill mount.
Here's the link to a search for "XDA Car Kit" on ebay:

Hope this helped.

Any good Epic-fitted car mounts out there w/ power? Ideally dash or lighter mounted, as I'm not a fan of window mounts.

People speak highly of ProClip's stuff. I've never had one personally so I can't comment and their model for the Epic isn't out yet. The only one (w/power) for US models they have so far is for the Vibrant. Take a look at that and you'll get a sense for how the Epic's will be. It's not a cheap solution by any means as you have to buy both the mount for your specific car as well as the holder for your device, but it is dash-mounted like you mentioned.

Personally I'm just using a cupholder-based Bracketron and plugging my power and 3.5mm wires in manually each time. Not the most elegant solution, but it works for now. And I'm not a big fan of the official Samsung model that was floated around (and later pulled) as I much prefer portrait mode.
This is something I want as well, I have this crazy idea that may put this to work. Currently I have a cup holder and the idea is to combine this to a touchstone charger and if I have a bluetooth radio everything will be wireless. I'm just waiting for an extra touch stone to play with.

I made a lighter-outlet mount out of a free car charger, some stiff wire and super-glue. It's just a prototype for now, but when I've got some free time (college sucks) I'll probably make a write-up about how to make a nice looking one
To me, car mounts are an essential part of owning an android phone.
I've been thinking about making one myself.
but the sheer design of the phone makes it almost impossible for a clean mount.

connectors at the top.
I'm beginning to think that they weren't thinking in terms of accessories when designing this phone.
but until i or someone else can think of a clean mount, i'll stick with this one from ebay.

No, wouldn't be that hard to do. At the top you have the microSD power plug that the phone slides up into, and then you push back on the bottom and have a small spring loaded latch clip into the thumbnail hole on the bottom of the backplate of the phone. That would probably hold it in plenty secure and if done right would allow the screen to slide off to the side as well.
Samsung announced before the galaxy s line was released that all phones were getting among other things, a car mount. Its the only accessory I have really been pining after. Anyone have any idea about when its coming out?
car mount
I got a generic one off of ebay for $5. the suction cup is worthless but it came with spring loaded vent hooks also which keep it secure in my truck
i have a feeling it has something to do with the line out not working till froyo comes out, like with the home dock. at least i hope so. if we see froyo without a car dock i'm gonna be pissed.
I've ordered two of the Media Docks, $20 each shipped. One will stay in my office on my desk, the other I will be customizing to fit into the ashtray of my X5 so I don't have to fumble with the car charger and headphone cords anymore since 2.2 will enable the headphone jack on the dock through the MicroUSB port.
I finally just got rid of Sirius because my new car has bluetooth that I can play slacker through. Soooo I went and ordered one for $5 off ebay. I dont expect it to be top notch.... but as long as it holds the phone I am good.

This is one thing I've been waiting for since I got my epic on release day. Starting to get sick of waiting. I want to probably get the Arkon beanbag mount but I hate that it doesn't come with a car charger and it's so freakin hard to find a car charger that has an angeled head (on the point that plug into the phone) so I don't have a goofy wire curved around the top of the phone.
I still do not have any mount or car charger yet as I still want to wait for the official dock but my patience is wearing very thin on this issue

Proclip vehicle mount with adjustable ipod holder works 100% perfectly and allows enough adjustment to use with Epic bare or with any of the common snap on cases and such.
This was my biggest concern when I got the phone as well as I wasn't a fan of the top-mounted usb input Samsung chose to go with when most other devices are (logically IMO) bottom-mounted precisely because of cradling convenience.
I picked up a Bracketron universal vent mount. I then got a 3' car charger (straight) and a 3' stereo cable to input the audio into my radio. I lashed the two cables together about every 6" with black wire ties. It's really only a little over 1' from my radio to the mount, but I just let them loop over and hang down the left side onto the center of the console when I'm not in the car. And the extra length is nice as it allows you to easily pull the cables to you when you hop in the car for a quick/easy plug in before putting the phone in the dock. Perhaps not the most elegant solution, but it's passable and semi-efficient until a more official solution comes out (and even then I'm not a big fan of the landscape layout.)
This thread needs pics and links! I recently tried some little cheapy one at WalMart for $7, and while it was a super tight fit, it bounced around too much while driving to make it reasonably viewable to watch movies at the same time.
I did this with my epic and used a cheap crappy case I found on eBay and the cradle/mount from Garmin Nuvi.

Works amazingly well and is custom fit for our epics.

Samsung Epic 4G Rubberized Hard Case Cover Black
Although any generic hard case works.
I ordered one from talkietech.com. $48.90 shipped.

$32 shipped.
Anyone get one? I am guessing by the look that it does not work with a case.
Can anyone post a few more detailed pics when they get it please? I'd like to know a few things like if it has a connection for audio out, and does it work? If not, can you plug in a 3.5 audio cable or does the mount obstruct the jack? How does the "cradle' attach to the "mount"? Could one use just the cradle part with their own mount? How much tilt/swivel does it allow for? TIA

Hi,
Not sure if this is the right place so mods please move or lock if inappropriate.
I have a one week old Brodit HTC Desire Active holder for sale on eBAY. I've changed the phone so no longer need it.
Stuck it on a buyitnow for £25. Purchased from mobilefun.co.uk for £35.
Thought someone might be interested in picking one up cheaper than elsewhere - it's as good as new (just don't have the fixing leaflet anymore)

Thanks for the feedback. Think something weird happened to the formatting of the url. I've edited the original post. Should work ok now.
cheers fella
now to get my proclip, just bought and paid topic can be locked now.
i presume its in good condition with it only being a week old
cheers again
Hi,
Thanks. Just replied to you through eBay.
Yes it's in as good as new condition. The only thing missing is the plastic bag it came in and the little leaflet which basically says "Screw these four screws in!"
Phone as only been in in two or three times. Just enough to loosen it up a tiny bit
Oh and I should point out that it can supply enough juice to charge properly whilst using as a Sat Nav with bluetooth turned on.
Enjoy..
just to say i got it and my review so far is as follows
beautiful fit
i have an invisible all over cover on, the phone fits with a little shove, but leaves the sim card cover behind when removing it
if it doesn't ease off with time and use i will file a smidge off
but overall im happy and it will fit with an invisible shield on
Does this car kit set 'Car Mode' when you insert the phone? I know the official adapter does.
No, the brodit holder does not trigger the car panel. Also, I think it is pretty tight on the phone. My sim cover slips down when I remove the phone from the holder, and it was driving me nuts until I sandpapered the sides.
Had one in the past for my HD2 and bought it another for the desire hd.
I personally RECOMMEND using the passive holder and buy a separate car charger. It worths because it's more handy for acessories and other cell phones. I had both, the active and the passive, and I find the passive more versatile.
the tight fit i had at the start is getting better, even with my zshield
the power plug needs guiding in sometimes, especially when i plug in my aux socket, i am going to look into a way of fixing the aux jack so it clips in when pushed down
Hi,
I searched a long time for a good car holder. Now I bought the brodit active holder and want to give you some feedback on it.
Positive:
- Build quality is very good. The plastic doesn't look cheap but very good.
- Despue the fact that the brodit holders are not glued or drilled to the dashboard, it's very very stable.
- The holder is active, that means if you push it in into the holder it gets energy
- The cable to the cigarette plug and the plug itself is looking good as well. A little light on the plug is showing that energy is.
- The car specific part can be fixed without drilling. So in a leasing car you can remove it after some years again.
- Inserting and removing the phone is easy. It's not to tight and not to loose, just perfect.
Interesting to know:
- I read that the brodit car holders a consisting of two parts, the car specific part and the device specific part and therefore you can switch the holder between the cars. That doesn't work as I expected because the device specific part and the car specific part are connected with a screw. So you can't easily take it to car A today and car b tommorow.
- The same applies to the orientation of the phone. Landscape is possible. But you have to open the screw with a scredriver. Adjust the holder as you like it and thight the screw again. You won't change it from day to day or even during the drive.
Edit 01/31/2011: Both is probably possible if you have the right extra parts from Brodit. Thanks for your feedback guys.
Negativ:
- There is a "open area" for the headspeaker plug in the holder frame. But this one has to little tolerance (or HTC changed the dimensions of the phone). I couldn't insert the plug. It's not important for me as I have a bluetooth connection to my auto radio.
Summary:
I would buy it again. It's a bit expensive (ca. 75 EUR for both parts of the holder) but worth the money as I haven't find something comparable.
Any chance of some pictures to see it in action? im after a car holder aswell
Good one
Brodit are the best car holders in my opinion i use them for years now and in different cars never had any problems whit them it wont fell of the fit is perfect if you get the right part to place it in your car they made for every car its own part so look out you get the right part for you brand and type of car
Regards Wielo
Yu cannot movt from car to car because you have to fasten the holder to the clip with screws. But you can buy 1 clip for each car and buy the removable adaptors (I don't remember how they call them, something like clip & move) so that you can easily transfer to different cars.
Orientation: not true, you can just rotate and move at any angle you like.
Charger: bad thing is that it is not recognized as dock which would be very nice to have.
Also, I received one which was very tight for the phone, so tight that I couldn't take the phone out of it and most times, the sim cover would get off and stay in the cradle. I received a replacement which seems to have been altered to allow more room for the phone. If you have similar case, you should request replacement from brodit directly since resellers deny the issue.
Some picture would be really helpful!
I am looking to go Brodit's way - I particularly like the option of the molex connector for getting direct power from the power, thus hiding cables! The price though is kind of heavy...
Regarding the picture, you can see it pretty good on that site. Go with the mouse over the small pictures:
http://www.gps-haus.de/Zubehoer-n-H...nzuenderkabel-fuer-HTC-Desire-HD::104540.html
Regarding the "moving it from one car to another". You are right. There are some extra parts that can be bought.
Regarding the orientation, you may be right as well. I didn't know that there is that much extra parts you can buy. There is probably one that allows it. With my solution it's not possible. At the moment I am a bit overwhelmed how many extra parts there are. It's difficult to know which one is good for what.

That's not a big problem for me. I use tasker in order to configure/control the phone. If the bluetooth connection to my radio is connected, I have a trigger to do whatever I want.
I am getting my new car - a 2004 Mazda 6 with a bluetooth parrot installed so that part should be taken care of...
However when i need to use the satnav on the phone i need a holder that FITS the MAzda 6 dash..
I have had a look at the Brodit holders - either they block the info screen of the Mazda or they cover the air vents - both of which is a great big 'no' from my point of view.
Has anyone inhere got a Mazda 6 and have a cradle they would recommend that doesent look like cheap crap or something out of a horror movie ?
It it ok that it is a universal holder as the missus got a Wildfire - so if it could hold that as well - that would give me wife points so a passive holder is probably what i am looking for.
So - anyonme with actual experience with anything that looks good ?
I use a Clingo Universal Car Phone Mount in my Lexus IS250. It doesn't look too bad. It holds the wife's DHD in a silicone case. It says it won't work on silicone based cases but it does. And I use mine without a case and it works perfect.
Also should the "pad" lose it's stickiness just run under hot water and rub with your finger, dry it and it's as good as new.
This is definately one to consider!
I was looking for something more permanent though that could be installed somewhere on the dash. If that is not possible - then this is the one i will get...
Thank you for your reply
I was looking for exactly the same, this was purely an interim purchase. But It works very well and isn't limited to a particular handset model, so for me it's a keeper.
it's really nice thing
Ok it's ordered from ebay...lets see if it's as good as the video claims (never seems to be the case but lets try it anyways)
I think I got mine for about £16 off ebay.
I had similar issues with Brodit's ProClips in that the one they sold for my 2005 MG ZS didn't actually fit anywhere like what their installation diagrams suggested.
I found DashMount, however, who manufacture similar style mounts, but out of more solid metal sheeting and often in totally different locations to Brodit's mounting.
Have a look at this:
http://www.dashmount.co.uk/index.ph...applicable-with-dealer-fitted-CD-upgrade.html
Alright - so i recieved the Clingo universal hands-free mount - and what a load of ####!
It simply cannot hold the DHD if i have the cig plug charger plugged in it - it falls out of the holder within 2 minutes.
So that was 15£ wasted
Seriously?
Does it fall off the green pad? I've yet to have it fall off the pad. Sometimes it sticks that firmly I struggle getting it off. And is that with your case on?
It could be that the wife's case isn't silicone.
i dont have a silicone case on - it's just the bare phone and nothing more.
I have not yet tried with the wifes wildfire
3 seperate times the phone fell off the holder - and all 3 times it was when i had the charger plugged in. If i leave the charger out i think it can hold it - but then i dont have any more power left on the phone if/when i drive listening to music and using satnav etc
So i think im looking again for a holder that has some gripping arms of some sort - maybe an active holder - i dunno yet...
This clingo holder is not in the glove box - and it stays there...
Hello there,
I bought / use this holder. It perfectly fits the phone, sadly without any type of case. It can be rotated 360 degrees. It can also be found without the gooseneck holder, or with a fixed arm. It has holes for the camera, flash and speaker. The suctioncup is amazing, it is sticking on the windshield for almost a month now. The only anoying thing about the gooseneck is that it bounces around alot because of the weight of the phone. Probably the fixed arm is better but I had no choise.
Good Luck,
Ivan.
I have found an inexpensive and very reliable one that I have been using with my Nokia 6120 classic to my HTC Desire HD 40mm to 110mm adjustment.

Now the one I have is exactly the same but I got it from Media Markt in Germany and it has been with me no less than 10 times across the pond. Thus far its been perfect BUT it is not wide enough for landscape mode unless I rotate the whole thing.
