[Q] Handson Mazda 6 handsfree/holder ? - Desire HD Accessories

I am getting my new car - a 2004 Mazda 6 with a bluetooth parrot installed so that part should be taken care of...
However when i need to use the satnav on the phone i need a holder that FITS the MAzda 6 dash..
I have had a look at the Brodit holders - either they block the info screen of the Mazda or they cover the air vents - both of which is a great big 'no' from my point of view.
Has anyone inhere got a Mazda 6 and have a cradle they would recommend that doesent look like cheap crap or something out of a horror movie ?
It it ok that it is a universal holder as the missus got a Wildfire - so if it could hold that as well - that would give me wife points so a passive holder is probably what i am looking for.
So - anyonme with actual experience with anything that looks good ?

I use a Clingo Universal Car Phone Mount in my Lexus IS250. It doesn't look too bad. It holds the wife's DHD in a silicone case. It says it won't work on silicone based cases but it does. And I use mine without a case and it works perfect.
Also should the "pad" lose it's stickiness just run under hot water and rub with your finger, dry it and it's as good as new.

This is definately one to consider!
I was looking for something more permanent though that could be installed somewhere on the dash. If that is not possible - then this is the one i will get...
Thank you for your reply

I was looking for exactly the same, this was purely an interim purchase. But It works very well and isn't limited to a particular handset model, so for me it's a keeper.

it's really nice thing

Ok it's ordered from ebay...lets see if it's as good as the video claims (never seems to be the case but lets try it anyways)

I think I got mine for about £16 off ebay.

I had similar issues with Brodit's ProClips in that the one they sold for my 2005 MG ZS didn't actually fit anywhere like what their installation diagrams suggested.
I found DashMount, however, who manufacture similar style mounts, but out of more solid metal sheeting and often in totally different locations to Brodit's mounting.
Have a look at this:
http://www.dashmount.co.uk/index.ph...applicable-with-dealer-fitted-CD-upgrade.html

Alright - so i recieved the Clingo universal hands-free mount - and what a load of ####!
It simply cannot hold the DHD if i have the cig plug charger plugged in it - it falls out of the holder within 2 minutes.
So that was 15£ wasted

Seriously?
Does it fall off the green pad? I've yet to have it fall off the pad. Sometimes it sticks that firmly I struggle getting it off. And is that with your case on?
It could be that the wife's case isn't silicone.

i dont have a silicone case on - it's just the bare phone and nothing more.
I have not yet tried with the wifes wildfire
3 seperate times the phone fell off the holder - and all 3 times it was when i had the charger plugged in. If i leave the charger out i think it can hold it - but then i dont have any more power left on the phone if/when i drive listening to music and using satnav etc
So i think im looking again for a holder that has some gripping arms of some sort - maybe an active holder - i dunno yet...
This clingo holder is not in the glove box - and it stays there...

Hello there,
I bought / use this holder. It perfectly fits the phone, sadly without any type of case. It can be rotated 360 degrees. It can also be found without the gooseneck holder, or with a fixed arm. It has holes for the camera, flash and speaker. The suctioncup is amazing, it is sticking on the windshield for almost a month now. The only anoying thing about the gooseneck is that it bounces around alot because of the weight of the phone. Probably the fixed arm is better but I had no choise.
Good Luck,
Ivan.

I have found an inexpensive and very reliable one that I have been using with my Nokia 6120 classic to my HTC Desire HD 40mm to 110mm adjustment.

Now the one I have is exactly the same but I got it from Media Markt in Germany and it has been with me no less than 10 times across the pond. Thus far its been perfect BUT it is not wide enough for landscape mode unless I rotate the whole thing.

Car Dock for Droid Eris

Does anyone know of any for the Eris? Been looking with no luck.
I have not found any at local VZ stores or even fry's that would meet my needs, however I have been looking at this site
search android central on google...this has some nice docks you can use
I might end up buying from here.
I made mine. just bought a garmin one that was about the right size, and a clip on case for the eris, a little dremeling and a little epoxy and it stays up nicely.
What you can do is purchase another backplate for the phone and buy velcro and mount like that, but if changing plates all the time is too much of a pain here is a amazon search

Nice to know I'm not the only Velcro-Jockey out there! I got a closeout "case-thing" from the Verizon store that only wraps around the sides, so it pops off quickly, and that's what my velcro is on.
I've been using the Scosche Universal Windshield and Vent Mount:
Can't post links , I bought it from Amazon though.
It's pretty adjustable, 90° rotation, flexible arm, fits a lot of different devices as well. I've had it for almost half a year now with no problems.
I use my innocase belt clip that came with my innocase II, and just built/bent a place to clip it to out of clothes hanger. Took a little work with the dremel to expose the charging jack and the headphone jack while it is mounted facing me, but works great!
I bought mine from walmart for $6. It's a vent mount I picked up in the automotive section.
ProClip(proclipusa dot com) has both powered and unpowered versions. Never tried one, but I've read good reviews on other boards. A little pricey as it's a two part system - a vehicle mount and a device adaptor. I'm thinking of trying the standard non-powered version for the Eris. Only concern is that it doesn't look like it will accomodate a protective case on the phone.
Another option is the "Universal" smart phone mount from Semsons(semsons dot com). I have dealt with them before for GPS and PDA stuff - no problems. I've got a universal PDA vent mount that I think was a freebie from them with a BT GPS purchase. I've used it for years - works OK with the Eris.
I got a universal vent dock that works for my Eris. U have a pretty nice setup as I also have a connection for hooking up cd players to a car's tapedeck. I no longer listen to the radio, and I gave up on CD's a long time ago.
custom dock
Im personally not a fan of vent docks or universals. I found a how to on lifehacker as to make a custom car dock. Granite its not like the moto droid with the magnet, but hell its much better than a universal windshield or vent mount.
Fact is you get any gps mount off ebay. I had an old magellan gps mount laying around. Average price for one off ebay is anywhere from $3-10
Grab a hard case off ebay. I picked one that had a belt clip on it for $2. Shipped.
I had to break the clip off and file it flush.
You can use Rearview mirror windshield mount sticker ,but I didnt have any so I just used standard epoxy. Im sure superglue will work.
Glue the hard plastic case onto the gps mount and your result will end like this.
Sorry for the crappy pics. Taken with my phone on KAOSFROYO 36 and camera works when it wants. Quailitys not that great but you get the picture.
Enjoy.

Cheap car vent holder @$1.87 inc. shipping.

Hi, I have just ordered this item from ebay at a cost of $1.87 including shipping!
I assume quality won't be all that great, but I had the same thing for a HTC Touch HD which cost around $15 and never had any issues with it.
So if anyone's looking for a bargain car vent holder here you go
Completely forgot about vent holders, my suction mounts keep falling off so providing it fits my car this is a far better option.
Only ever set my vents to screen and footwell anyway, so not worried about the phone overheating
I don't suppose you know if that's portrait or landscape ?
It's a bit difficult to tell from the pics.
Screen mount is a pain for me as I've got a Ford Galaxy, the mahoosively deep dash means if I use a screen mount it has to be one of the long snakey ones that wobble about like an essex girls backside

pmsl. I would say that it's landscape. I have ordered one too so that the mound will be closer to me in the car/ more discrete and will be easier to use the phone without having to stretch especially in cars where the windscreen is miles from you lol. For a couple of quid I'm sure it can be modified if need be

I might have a punt on one, the trouble with the early Galaxy dashes is they are too curvy for a suction mount as well.
I'll deffo need one soon though as I'm off out in a mo to pick up a double din DVD and screen head unit, already got the Nokia composite AV lead, that just leaves a set of optic and a beer tap to fit and I need never leave the drive lol
Have been using this for a few months. Its landscape only but very useful. Recommended

that is a nice find !
i like it
i always prefer vent holders than the windshield suction ones, it works way better
I ordered 3 from eBay, hoping to sell the other 2 on craigslist. But since using them for about a month, all 3 are up on craigslist. The holder can be mounted either portrait or landscape by unscrewing the back of the mount and rotating the base to whichever position you prefer. The biggest problem I have with it is the 2 vent pins (or hooks) easily slide out of the slots in the back of the thing. Every time you remove the SGS from it, you'll have a problem with the loose pins. If I drove in a straight line this would not be a problem. I guess I could engineer a solution to the problem, like using a buck store soldering iron to fuse the pins in place or crazy gluing them. But that would involve investing time sitting in my car, trying to get them at the right angle for my round vents. And I just did 3 hours of that installing a Sony bluetooth radio, which means I can put the SGS in the cupholder, and listen to the turn-by-turn, phone calls and music through the radio.
yes I can't see the SGS in my line of sight. But the hassle of carefully removing the phone from this thing. And not having the feeling of solidness the mounting should offer without spending time reinforcing it has me passing on putting a expensive piece of hardware in it. You really do get what you pay for.
great find! thanks

Exogear Exomount (Universal Car Phone Holder)

I purchased one of these to hold my phone and was sick of changing mounts every time i got a new phone.
http://www.exogear.com/products-exomount-car-mount-holder.html
Its basically a normal suction mount with a little bit of a sticky surface that does not come off on anything. The DHD fits fine and i haven’t had it fly off or wobble as i am driving or turning (and yes i turn sharp at high speeds).
This is probably (apart from a proclip) one of the best universal mounts i have used. The proclip is my choice as its solid and fixed but requires work, this on the other hand is my second choice as i can stick it anywhere in my car and have it suck down without leaving a mark and not have to mess around changing clips.
Features:
•Exomount’s patented suction technology enables you to mount on almost any flat surface such as car dashes, glass, wood, metal,
plastics and even drywall!
•Polyurethane lined grip keeps your phone or GPS safe and secure
•Quickly and easily mount and unmount your phone or GPS with our stylish clip grip holder
•Mounts all smart phones and GPS devices up to 5-inch screens
•Multi-angle rotation for your preferred viewing angle
cheers for the thread
does anyone use this with an otterbox (or similar) case? I'm thinking of buying one of these as there is zero options available for a DHD with a case
also any issues with the patented stick technology or whatever its called becoming not so grippy after x weeks/months?
Try slipgrip mounts for otterbox cases. You can find it on ebay also.

Non mine is still sticky now, i don’t think it is supposed to be super sticky as the gel and stick i think improves the suction. I just purchased another because they are pretty good and it doesnt need to be on a flat surface to work at all.
I've read that vibration might be an issue... we have very bumpy roads where I'm at so I wouldn't like it to be all over the place...
Any further info about this please?

I think there is a video review which says this but i have tried this on a Samsung Galaxy S2, Iphone4,Desire HD and Sensation and it is perfectly fine on bumpy roads. The clamp is strong enough to hold it. You will get the same jigger on say a tomtom or any other mount.
The reason why the clamp is the size it is, so when holding onto phones it doesnt press any buttons on the side of the phone.
Quality isnt that bad for its price and i would think its the best universal mount i have used in a car, i have used many mounts but this one has lasted the longest and seems very promising.
You can even rotate it and mount a tablet in your car!
I have ordered mine from eBay.. will post report as soon as I receive the delivery...
Sent from my Desire HD
I'm a new user of it too, and love it !
Question for you:
Since my dash is not completely straight so I can't put it there (even so it lasts about 1 day), I'm putting it on the windshield, but the arm is so short that I can't find a good place for it.
I put it meanwhile just a lil bit below the mirror, but on a way that the top of the phone is kinda behind the mirror, otherwise its too far and too hard to reach it.
I tried many other places but none was good enough.
Its or too far or blocking the road.. :\
Where do you put it? and where do you suggest me to put?
Thanks,
Yarden.
what a piece of junk! i tried it last night and couldn't find ANY spots in my car (newish 2004) where it would stick! I haven't tried the windshield yet. It literally would stay in place a few seconds then fall. did anyone else get this? perghaps i installed it wrong. is it just a case of taking the white ring protector off the stick part then putting on a surface? or did i not do something?
I wonder how safe this would be if mounted on dash and you break suddenly.

Try Herbert Richter universal mounts if you're still after an option to use with otterbox case.
I've had mine for several weeks now.
It sticks everywhere.
I use mine with a Otterbox Commuter Case and it fits well.
Vibration is a small issue, though.
the Herbert Richter universal mounts is bulky with the arm, the exo gear mount is good btu if the clamp had a few extras to secure it better it would be 10/10

yes. take the white protector bit off, its that sticky bit that helps it stay stuck to the surface, im surprised the suction bit worked at all with that thing still on lol

The quality feels like it is kinda flimsy, but after using it, it feels tough.. i used to be kinda careful with it but these days i just grab and twist it and it definitely doesn't feel like it's gonna fall apart.
The ball bit that it rotates on did get a bit dirty on mine and it got quite hard to rotate it, but just clean the bit of it you can see (no need to take apart) and then it should be all good again. That's only happened once to me, and i literally just wiped with a dry finger and wiggled it about a bit and its fine again.
I was JUUUUST about to buy one, but because I live in Australia, shipping + handling is $49 alone!
Does anyone recommend any other mounts, without the massive shipping charge?
Apart from ebay cheapies.

I do not mind if you send me cash paypal etc to handle the purchase and shipping for you? If you like i can weigh the actual device (without packaging) which will make it cheaper and price up on royalmail web site air mail signed for etc?
Got one of those
I got the exogear holder about a month ago, and i can recommend it to anyone.
Sticks nice to many surfaces, the phone is not slipping down, can be used with a phone of any size (or a gps device)
The only down side is that you have to use both hands to place your phone into the holder.
so it holds the note fine ?

My car mount solution!

I know this has probably been posted over at other forums but I'll make a short review here.
I recently purchased Exogear's Exomount through Amazon ($19.99 and free 2-day shipping with Prime) and I'm absolutely amazed by the product's versatility/performance. The suction cup is made out of silicone and feels a bit sticky to the touch. It adheres to the windshield (or almost any flat surface, including dry-wall) effortlessly and that's even before applying the lock mechanism. The neck can pivot 360 degrees which means you can set your phone in portrait or landscape mode quickly.
The main selling point for me was that instead of using a cradle, it's simply an oversized 5" clip with polyurethane grippers on each of the clip ends to provide a firm non-abrasive grip on the device it's holding which is "EXCELLENT" for people who don't really like taking the phone case off everytime mounting is needed. IT WORKS GREAT WITH ANY CASE ATTACHED!. Just make sure the clip isn't gripping the volume rocker and you're good to go. The mount is not as clunky as most of the universal cradels sold online that look ridiculously oversized. I have attached and tested my girlfriend's iPhone 4 with and without a case, a garmin nuvi GPS, my Inspire 4G with and without a case and my old iPod video without any detachments from the suction cup or the clip itself. It leaves enough clearance for the camera to be free of any obstacles in case anyone wants to record video while driving. The website and some youtube videos also show it being used as a car mount for iPads and a lot of other tablets.
Bottom line: Great mount for anyone who wants to use a simple universal design compared to numerous propietary ones and attach many devices to it, even ones with protective cases/skins attached.
Thanks! Hadn't seen it before. I've always done just fine with my phone on my leg while using GPS, and didn't see the need to throw money at some clunky bulky phone holder, or an expensive one that I'd only be using for this phone..
That youtube video sold me. So versatile in what it can hold and where it can mount... I just ordered one and signed up for that month trial thing for the free shipping.
Thanks for posting about this!

Glad I was able to help, dude =D
Yeah, I'm loving this mounting kit. I actually ordered another one for my girlfriend's car 'cause her gps mount keeps on popping off. Let us know how you like it when you get a chance to have a hands-on test.
It will get delivered wednesday. I'll mount it up on my commute to work thursday morning. Some harsh roads and my car is pretty damn stiff suspension. If it holds up to that one roads beatings I'll be damn impressed.
This is pretty awesome! I may see if I can return the mount I just bought (I saved the reciept....the GPS mounts that hold the phones always loose tension in the springs) and get this one!
I use a mount by Mountek, really a superb product that mounts in a CD slot. Let us know how you like the exomount!
Exomount - Day 4
Today would be the 4th day I've used the Exomount. The clip works adequately and holds the phone in place even with the cover on. The suction cup has yet to fail me even in high temperature weather with the sun beating on it and I even used it on my girfriend's car for around 8 hours, and back on my car it stuck in place like it was just used for the first time. There's some vibration when recording video while driving but that's cruising at 60MPH over somewhat bumpy roads. I didn't expect this mount to be a tripod or anything like that, especially for the price I paid. It works as it should and beyond and I'm more than pleased with its performance thus far.
I have the GoPro Hero cam for recording out the window so I won't need this mount for that. Just want it to hold my phone in view. I tend to forget it's on my lap a lot and get out of the car and bam. (CaseMate Tough is awesome though)
My car's down, again, right now. I'll be picking up parts after work today and hopefully get the car back together tonight though. Mount is suposed to be delivered today so I'll post my opinion on it tomorrow hopefully.
OK.
So the mount is awesome! I love the fact that I can mount this on my MK4 GTI's dash!. Anybody with a MK4 VW knows what the surface of the dashboard looks/feels like.. it's pretty textured, but the mount holds on it!
With my cars very stiff suspension and the ****ty roads of texas, the phone does shake/vibrate a good bit, but what I need to see is legible in navigation. But I won't be able to read a text msg on it. The elbow is flexible enough to move with one hand, but holds strong enough to stay how you set it, which is awesome (It doesn't start "rotating" forward/down). And the fact I can keep my phone in it's case and easily just twist to make it portrait or landscape is great.

I got that one too, I love it. Also got a 6 inch audio cable with 90s on both ends and a 12 inch usb cable and flush usb charger for the cigarette lighter. clean installation with no long cables hangin in the floorboards or tangled around stuff.
I am using a mount called The Clingo. It is awesome and works with anything. Just picked it up a month ago.
I've been using an Arkon mount since around Christmas; no problems at all! Good suction, quick release works well. Only issue I've seen is if I hit the charger cable with the stick shift it will tend to trigger the quick release and pop the phone out. That's more an issue of the power cable not having a quick release than a knock to the mount though.
It also came with a dashboard vent mount, but I've not used that since trying the windshield mount. Either my vents aren't very sturdy, or the mount+phone weigh too much, but it would just slide down and then fall out. The clips are adjustable, but I couldn't make them work with my vents.
This model I have is the Arkon SM410 Universal Mount.

Best car mount for the Nexus 4 (UK)?

Most of them are for smaller phones
I would prefer one that sticks to the windscreen like a satnav other than clipping onto the air vents
Well, I say best. I just need something basic, so cheap would be good BUT I'm hesitant to buy any non-branded cheap Chinese products from eBay in case they're really bad (don't want my N4 to drop and crack)
Cheers
I really like the iOttie 1 touch mount. 1 handed phone mount/dismount and the suction cup is ridiculously strong.

Agree, it's been outstanding. Sticks to any flat surface.
Capdase Car Mount Holder for LG Nexus 4 is not bad.
I use the one for the Galaxy S3 here. It is rock solid and is adjustable.
I only paid £10.95 from Amazon tho'
I bought one of these a couple of weeks ago: http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/supergrip-universal-case-compatible-car-mount-p30552.htm
It's not the cheapest (£17.95!!) but it was well worth the money. I've had various naff quality ones that don't stick, look cheap or fall to bits. This one looks better than in the pics, looks good when the phone is in or out, sticks brilliantly (I've tried just on the dashboard and on the windscreen!). I know there's other alternatives that offer charging etc but for just a decent holder this one is better than anything I've had (and I've tried a LOT).

I use the same mount and it works brilliantly, tried plenty of others too, but it is the only one which doesn't wobble about/swivel or fall off on its own. Well worth trying. You can also find a few cheaper versions for around £5-6 on Amazon which look nearly identical, although I guess it is a bit of a gamble as far as quality goes then.
Thanks for the suggestions guys, do you all mount it on the windshield or find mounting it on the dash/vents is better?
http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/attac...ande-punto-test-drive-review-fiatpuntoilg.jpg
that's my dash (pic from google) so I was thinking maybe sticking it to the dash above the central air vents. how would I stick it to this? adhesive?
If you get the one I mentioned, it'll stick directly to the dash with the suction cup.
With some other mounts you have to mount a plastic disk (using double sided tape) so they suction has a smooth flat surface.
Whats the sticky gel on the 4th mobilefun picture? does it leave a residual on what you stick it on and does it get less sticky over time?
I wonder if anyone could suggest good airvent/grill car mount as I hate obstructing the windscreen. It should be low profile and be able to rotate in all directions. Maybe even universal as i still have HTC desire and use it from time to time as ive got different simcard in that. Tried looking for some but most are either in China or in USA and the ones I saw that I would like do not ship to UK.
Any suggestions? Thank you.

Mounting option is dependant on your car and though pricey the upshot is if you change car or phone you only have to replace half of your holder rather than the whole thing.
I bought this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Exogear-Exo...Phone-5-Android-Phone-GPS-Black-/130782407854
I've been very happy with it and it sticks perfectly on my car (VW Golf IV Variant 2001) dashboard which isn't too smooth and a normal suction cup would't attach to it but exomount would.
I use the $10 GripGo.. No issues at all, cheapest one I've found, and works as well as any other I've had. Yet it works with any device!
Ram mounts...
I've ran Ram Mounts for years, started with GPSr mounts, now I run a double mount, holds both my GPSr and cell phone on the dash. It's a modular system. Get the cradle you need, the mount type you want, and whatever arms you need to connect the two.. I use the same cradle for my GPSr units in my truck, on the bike, on the quads, all i do is mode the cradle and arm from place to place... But it can get pricey, depending on how complex a setup you run... But on the same now, you can get parts to rig up everything from a cell phone/GPSr up to laptop computers....
the Ram X-Grip I'm currently using does have a habit of adjusting the volume if the phone is centered in the bracket, but it's easy enough to offset the phone slightly. I've used the same cradle for my last 3 phones.
I'm currently in the process of mating a google orb to the xgrip to provide wireless charging in my truck without having to worry about the phone sliding or falling...
