Hello,
I'm wanting to buy my first pda phone because nokia has no interresting phones and i want to be different.
First i saw the qtec s100/mda compact/imate jam/magican and i just loved the size and the look but when i was ordering i saw that the s100 with 265mn wifi sd card is in the same price range as the qtec 9090/mdaII/mdaIIs.
Ofcourse I did some searching an came up with the following pro's and con's:
qtec 9090:
pro's: querty tobo, intergrated wifi, big screen, resonable cam.
con's: big, bad wifi coverage and not as good a screen as the s100.
qtec s100:
pro's: small, 1,3 mp cam, good screen, good wifi coverage with the sdcard
con's: no intergrated wifi, maybe to small screen.
So what would be the best choise? the qtec 9090 with the intergrated wifi, big screen and slide keyboard ore the s100 small size, better wifi coverage, and clearer crean.
I've got the qtek 2020 with wifi card.
Then an Ipaq 6340,
and a qtek9090.
It's depend on your needs.
I love the keyboard and the wifi inside the Qtek9090.
A lot of buttons are present and when you used it with one hand it is very useful.
But the qtek S100 is very small and sexy but no wifi inside and no keyboard.
i never had a querty keyboard on a phone so i don't think a pulldown keyboard ore a touchkeyboard will make a huge difference.
but i'm not for sure because i never had one. ( i did play with a pda for a couple of hours)
the lack of wifi on the s100 will not be a problem with the wifi sd card.
is there anybody here who was an qtec s100 and a 9090 who can tell me the following things:
- Is the wifi connection on a s100 with wifi card much better than on a qtec 9090?
- Is the screen of the s100 really better as the 9090 screen?
- Is the full down querty tobo a good ore a bad thing on the 9090?
- Is the screen of the s100 just as functional as the bigger 9090 screen?
- is the 1,3 mp camera on the s100 better than the vga cam on the 9090?
hi, i had a qtek 9090 and changed to a qtek s100
-i do not have the wifi card for the s100 as i use bluetooth at home and it works very well..
-the screen on the s100 is ten times better than the one on the 9090, you can look at it in every angle...
-the keyboard i never used because after using the qtek 1010 and the 2020, i was so used to using the stylus, i forgot i had the keyboard (and when working in landscape mode, the keyboard has no use)
-i have tomtom 3 running on my s100, and the screen is perfect, not too small at all.
-camera is not much better than the 9090, but i heard there will be a software-upgrade to enhance the quality..
hope this helps a bit

Hi,
I currently have an XDA 2 (which i have hacked apart with WM 2003 SE etc ) and have been poffered an upgrade by O2.
They said i can chose either the XDA 2s or the 2i, my choice for the same price (£10 ).
My question is - which should i choose? Opinions would be gratefully recieved, particularly from users of either of the 2s or 2i
Thanks!
Michael
£10?? I am also with o2 uk and I just payed £100 tp upgrade. which is still a great price regardless. I chose the IIs btw and so far i'm happy. it's so much sexier audio quality is sooo much better (calls and music). at last i have a decent bluetooth driver and wifi!
I chose the IIs cos i didnt feel the IIi offered enough reason to upgrade. After all i dont use the camera so a 1megapixel didnt excite me and I dont really have any software that needs a faster processor - it runs fine on my xdaII as it is!
first thing you should do with an IIs is turn all your lights off and start using the slide out keyboard. beautiful!
i've just upgraded to the xda2i a few weeks ago , and it runs with no problems at all
the camera side is ok ,but i can't compair as i've never had any other
,the other reaason i went with the i is because i heard that the keyboard side has troubles and the i is slightly faster
I upgraded to a IIs last week from an Orange SPV M1000 and I'm really happy, the processor is fast enough and the keyboard is so useful!

Half a year ago, I upgraded from Qtek 2020 to Qtek 9090 and I was very happy with the Wlan and keyboard, Not the I was using the keyboard mutch.
Now my Qtek 9090 was stolen, and I need a new one, should I go for a Qtek 9090 again, og "downgrade" til Qtek2020i?!?
The things I missed in the Qtek 2020 is in the Qtek 2020i - Wlan and 1,3 Mpixel..
Any advices?
personallly i would go to 2020i with no doubt,, after all u said it urself that u didnt use the keyboard that often,u might miss the additional buttons,,but for me I can live without it,,,,,
How is it a downgrade?
The 2020i is faster, more flash rom storage, better camera, and is a newer device that has far more accessories available for it thanks to being the same form factor as the 2020.
If there was a chance of a WM2005 update, the 2020i would get it, the 9090 would not.
well ok.. It not a downgrade.. Sorry..
But will the accesories from my BlueAngle work on the Alpine/Andes (2020i) Im thinking of my Brodit car active car holder..
The socket on the bottom of the Blue Angle is different to the Himalaya and Alpine, so if it's got a plug in it, it will not fit.
Hmmm...
Well, I was using the things from the Himalaya on the BlueAngle..
I think that everyone is forgotting some things..
1) 9090 is a demo wm2005 device used by microsoft in expos, so there's already wm2005 for it, and not for 2020i
2) They added wireless, 1.3mpx camera, more rom (32MB) and a new processor but forgot to change the battery
I think 9090 is a better choice because it isn't a lousy upgrade to an old platform
The only thing i miss in 9090 is not supporting the vga out sleeve.
I got the imate jam right now but thinking of switching over to the tornado.
i use the imate jam mostly like a phone to make calls with and sometimes im using tomtom on it. i dont really like how the imate jam works as a phone with the stylus and with the problems that come with it when using it as a pocket pc.(ie reseting and so on),and its a little big to have in the pocket.
will i miss anything when switching to the tornado? is it better as a phone? does it have better sound quality for instance?
I can asure you that the sound quality of my 8310 is outstanding. The receptition is on top too. Is a really great phone by itself with great battery life.
I have TomTom 5.20 working perfectly on it.
If you don´t need a pda, the 8310 or Imate SP5 is perfect for you. Obviously the S100 is designed for pda users with mobil phone requirements, while the 8310 is for "advanced" mobil phone users who needs a little taste of what a pda offers.
Regards.
Slowly after the first (?) (HP 6515) HTC starts doing more GPS enabled PDA Phones....
There is the Mio A700 (uglyyyy), the E-TEN G500 and the Dopod P100
Does anyone already have experiences with these?
I have been using Dopod P100 for awhile. it is perfect for what I need. Screen is a little small but it is compact and skype works great on it.
Battery life is ok.
The JAM/S100 still has a faster processor than the new Orange M600 / S200 / Jamin.
I've had my S100 for a year now and my contract is nearly up, I am tempted to upgrade to the M600 but not sure it will really be worth it?
Are there any apps that can give my existing S100 the same functionality as M600/S200 ?
Most wanted features would be:
1. Outlook Photo sync and display when calling (I've tried some software but you have to assign photos seperate from outlook)
2. Sync Media files (Movies etc) like WM10 does
3. Push email (maybe mail2web works with WM2003 ?)
Other nice features that the M600/S200 has that would be worth a possible upgrade are:
USB2 (much faster media transfer - or is there STILL active sync bug?)
Quad band (I don't really go away except on hols when i leave it at home!)
2mp camera, (I have a seperate digital camera)
Wifi. I have wifi at home but cannot think of a reason to use it , I can just put it in the cradle!
Any one out there upgraded from S100 to S200 ? who would like to comment on speed / improvements etc ?
Thanks
OK So no replies then ?
I've decided to take the plunge and get the Orange M600.
I got it as a free upgrade and also managed to increase my inclusive mins
from 180 (Family plan) to 200 Xnet + 100 landline + 100 texts (Non family plan) for the same monthly price (£25)
Nice.
Lets hope the M600 does not dissapoint.
I have a Wizard (QTek 9100, MDA Vario) now and a Magician (S100, MDA Compact) before. The Wizard is as fast as the Magician, only the reboot needs some more time 'cause WM5. I have no problems with ActiveSync and Wifi nor anything else. I don't want a new WM2003/WM5 flame thread, but i think WM5 has many improvements. I loved the Metal case of my Magician, the Wizard is thiker and feels not so "stable", but it is also a good device. But the Prophet (S200) has the same size as the Magician.
Ok after long deliberation I have canceled my order for the M600.
I was waiting for Orange to have stock, during that time I have had a chance to play with my girlfriends new Pink Charmer (Mda 2 on T-mobile) and was dissapointed by the general reaction time and that it didnt play my movies as well as the S100 !) - I belive this phone has the same processor as the M600.
SO I have switched to Easymobile as they were doing a deal for £21 airtime for £1, its like a pay-as-you-go contract and I will probably PORT over to T-mobile when the next best MDA comes out (S300 anyone ?)..
Until then I have bought a 4gb MMC card for my S100.. ;-)
Did the 4 GB Card work?
The next MDA will be the Vario II (HTC Hermes), and he has a 300 Mhz Procesor.
Yup memory card worked fine..
it was a
Adata 4GB 200x Turbo MMC 4.0 from Ebay cost about 70 pounds.
I dont think its the actual phone which is slow but the ROM, a friend of mine has a MDA Compact II which I've played around with, which i thought was a bit slow compared to my M600 flashed with Imate Rom. Plus the MDA doesnt have the softkeys as the key config is still adapted to the old WM2003 style.
I also used to have a Magician and I can say that I am extremely happy with the upgrade and dont see any difference in reaction speed (apart from video playback, just need to reencode the video to 320x240). Plus the feel of the casing on the M600 is so much nicer, has kinda a rubber fell to it, giving a better non-split grip.
My feeling on the matter is that, yes, WM5 would be pretty hot, partly because it's more mature and handles a lot of things better, but mostly because it would finally allow proper A2DP outside of windows media player (most of my music is AAC, hence the frustration).
The wifi would only be a big boon to me because I like to use my handset for Skype, and swapping out cards is a pain. However, the different (though, perhaps not actually slower, in real-world terms?) CPU does not run any version of Skype that currently exists (they're working on it, I gather), so that wouldn't really help.
I like the look of the Hermes (Wizard + BT 2.0 + Xscale + 2Mpx cam) as my next handset, though I'm severely tempted by SE's W950i (4Gb internal memory, QVGA touch-screen, thin~).
I think that Windows Mobile based phones probably won't be really ready for the prime time for another generation or so

Skype works fine one my Prophet! voice calls too.
I guess they sorted it without telling me? Man, they're mean.
Also, I just remembered: the Muse!

For push-mail I use VGSMail. It's an imap client. So you need an imap mail account, it doesn't work with pop accounts. http://www.vgsmail.com/ppc/

I upgraded my Magician to a Prophet (free upgrade and £130 on eBay for the Magician) and yes it's a little slower but not so much. In the Prophet forum there's a thread about overclocking the Prophet whick makes a huge improvement when running Skype and TomTom.
