Advice Required - XDA 2s or 2i? - General Topics

Hi,
I currently have an XDA 2 (which i have hacked apart with WM 2003 SE etc ) and have been poffered an upgrade by O2.
They said i can chose either the XDA 2s or the 2i, my choice for the same price (£10 ).
My question is - which should i choose? Opinions would be gratefully recieved, particularly from users of either of the 2s or 2i
Thanks!
Michael

£10?? I am also with o2 uk and I just payed £100 tp upgrade. which is still a great price regardless. I chose the IIs btw and so far i'm happy. it's so much sexier audio quality is sooo much better (calls and music). at last i have a decent bluetooth driver and wifi!
I chose the IIs cos i didnt feel the IIi offered enough reason to upgrade. After all i dont use the camera so a 1megapixel didnt excite me and I dont really have any software that needs a faster processor - it runs fine on my xdaII as it is!
first thing you should do with an IIs is turn all your lights off and start using the slide out keyboard. beautiful!

i've just upgraded to the xda2i a few weeks ago , and it runs with no problems at all
the camera side is ok ,but i can't compair as i've never had any other
,the other reaason i went with the i is because i heard that the keyboard side has troubles and the i is slightly faster

I upgraded to a IIs last week from an Orange SPV M1000 and I'm really happy, the processor is fast enough and the keyboard is so useful!

Should I buy XDA IIs or IIi, help!

Hi there,
I have only owned SPV E100/E200 before so would appreciate advice as now moving onto Pocket PC phone.
On O2's website, they have got both the XDA IIs and IIi for £99 on price plans ranging from £20-£45, I'm going to get one, not sure which one!
My primary use for the phone will be:
Pocket PC usage,
TOM TOM,
Wireless LAN.
I know the IIi is newer and has a better digital camera, but the IIs's slide out keyboard looks so cool! But is it practical? or just unneeded? I haven't had a Pocket PC before so please fill me in!
Which has a better screen? or is more lighter? or just the one you would go for? Please tell me, and why! I have to make my choice soon and I'm letting out a sweat, opinoin's will be greatly appreciated! Many thanks,
For once, price is not a factor, making a choice has become so hard!
There’s a lot of topic like this in the forum already.. Do a search for "IIs IIi" (without the quotes and select search for all terms) and you'll find it all.
That depends whether you want the slide-out thumb keyboard or not.
The IIs has the keyboard, the IIi does not. The keyboard adds bulk to the unit and is according to people I know with them it's a bit of a waste of time. I'd go for the IIi.
Got an Xda 2i yesterday for £99, am very impressed with it. Even though it showed a fault I had with my wireless router and that cast me another £60, but it has connected wirelessly without any problems, it has paired with a BT headset without any problems and battery life is acceptable (will no doubt get better after a couple of charges). Am so far glad I got it, can now say bye bye to my ipaq and nokia phone
If you want keyboard and unoffical WM5, go for XDAIIs. If you don't, go for XDAIIi.
Bottom line: I love XDAIIs's built-in keyboard...
Using IIs for 6 months...
Using IIs for 6 months. Love it... but do not really get a whole lot of use out of the keyboard due to poor shift vs. function key layout. If the IIi has a better camera, I would go for that. A WME 2005 unofficial for IIi will probably work sooner or later. Happy Using!
Steve
When making the same decision I was advised by the manager in my local O2 shop to go for the IIi as the IIs was somewhat unreliable, especially with respect to the slider.
The better camera isn't a particularly big draw for me, quality is patchy at best.
I did manage to score a tenner discount on the IIi without any argument from the shop manager, so well worth asking if you decide to go for one

New Phone - Help me decide: Prophet, Magician, wizard, TyTn?

So my phone (SPV m500) was nicked and even though Orange could see who has my phone (IMEI + SIM network tracking) they won't tell me anything or do a thing about it and the police even though they were happy to take my report, "don't really get involved with stolen phone enquiries"..WTF?
I have looked at the Vario on T-Mob, XDA mini S on O2, SPV M600 on Orange and want some advice from seasoned users as to which phone and company comes up trumps.
I need built in wifi, a decent-ish camera, very very small amount of internet useage, the ability to stream audio to a headset (mono if poss) and cos I only make a small number of outbound calls, a very cheap 12 month package. Any ideas?

I'm partial to the TyTN/Hermes/Vario II, but it ain't out yet, so have got a monthly contract that I can cancel at anytime in the meantime.
If you wanna stream audio, for good quality, stereo or mono, make sure the device does A2DP.
If you'll be using data, the £7.50 for relatively unlimted data bundle on Tmobile is hard to beat.
Thanks for that
The only problem is I need it now, and I just got back from visiting the carphone warehouse, O2 shop and T-mobile shop and all of them had no clue about the Hermes/TyTn/VarioII and looked at me like I had just questioned their parentage!
Is the vario/XDA mini S a good choice as it's available on a £20 per month contract (all I really need) for £49?
The SPV M600 (prophet) is always out of stock and much more expensive to buy and you have to have it on a expensive tarif.
Which one is better/worse?

Not a bad deal, but again, make sure you get unlimited data - maikes such a device much more usable. Having to curtail my own data usage with O2 by disabling push email, turning off images on browsing etc, is a PITA.
Good point(s), but is the 02 XDA mini s a better handset than the Orange SPV m600?
New Phone
phatphat,
I just received my new Atom, and I frickin love it!!!!!!! I went from a Magician to the Atom and what a difference. Way better sound than on the Magician, both through the earpiece and on the built in speaker phone. A little smaller phone physically, and WM2005 rocks. My phone came pre installed with the newest Rom so no issues there either. I have read some negative stuff about the Atom, so I was a little concerned. That all dissapeared when I used it for the first couple of days. I never thought that a phone could ever top the excitement I first fealt when I used my Magician for the first time, but the Atom topped it......by far!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know what you mean about the first time you get a magician, (which was also the first PPC phone I had).!
I am considering the Prophet, but I'm not hearing great things about O2 even though thay have some cheap deals for tarifs/handsets, and orange want £179 for an m600.
I see the spec are quite similar in terms of functions (BT, WM5, Wifi etc) but Is the prophet/atom much better than the Wizard(XDA mini s / vario)?
and what are the technical differences between the Atom and prohet? (i know they are based on the same HTC reference but are there any differences in features/performance?)

What's the best phone at the moment

Hi all,
I have been using imate k-jam aka wizard for a long time(2 years), and always felt slow doing anything and everything. Recently i buyed imate jasjam aka hermes thinking about its 400 mhz cpu. But to be frank and truthful both of them lagged the same way(sometimes hermes is better), but both are reasonably slow. I have even used my friends imate-jam aka magician- and im really truthful it was way too fast, everything works amazingly, changing the theme doesnt require more than 2 secs- which in my wizards takes more than 30 secs, playing big video's smoothly and-and internet pages was rendered amazingly-which my 2 costly devices could't do!!!
Now listening about wats going on with kaiser, its pitiful that such a good device also lags in performance. I wonder wats going on with HTC all expensive devices lags.
So guys, what do you think would be better device with all such funtionalities and faster performace. I am stuck with Asus P750...
What do you think...??
i want touch cruse
but if people like keyboard then kaiser is the thing
I think you will want to wait for HTC to iron out the bugs with Kaiser. I do the same - and purchased a Nokia N95 in the meantime so that I'm not without new toys, which I absolutely love. This device REALLY rocks! (I only wish it ran Windows Mobile...)
I was planning on getting myself the Kaiser 120 before the new year. Yeah, I read a few posts regarding the keyboard issue. True bumme. Then I thought about waiting to get the E-Ten M800 (it's looks mean, lol), but the has 64mg ram, as the Kaiser has 128mg or ram and a 3mg camera. Having a slide out keyboard and windows os is a must for me. Decisions decisions. I have until January to make a decision, lol.

If yoou still have 1.5 months, if I were you, I'd wait for the new announcements of HTC (Q1 2008 models). I really hope for something like the Omni (as long as it's not Google-only).
first i thought, that i will buy the new O2 XDA Orbit 2 (HTC Touch Cruise).. but then i found O2 XDA Stellar (coming soon 26th November i hope ) and then
--> BOA
I WANT THIS THING!!!
so i think the HTC TyTN II - Kaiser will be the best phone at this time
It's all relative honestly. There is no one best phone right now.
I dislike the TyTN II because to me its too thick. I have the X800 Gloffish and think its a bettet device personally. I have been waiting for the Polaris and we shall see, but again that my preference.
I think the N95 is the best non WM device right now. I sell phones and nothing sells better and is more popular.
It comes down to what you are looking for in a phone. I cannot wait for the HP 914 personally.

I had the HTC Herald for about a year now, and it's time to upgrade. I read about the HTC Omni, the specs on that gigantic "thing" is impressive. That thing is a mini laptop. I wouldn't even know how to answer a call on that thing, lol. It reminds me of the HTC Advantage regarding size. That Omni is not pocketable (at least for me, lol). E-Ten M800 let me down because of the 64ram instead of 128. I plan to get the kaiser in a few weeks. And besides, no matter what I get, several months down the road, something similar will come out that even better
yeah there is no best phone
one mans nightmare is another dream
if there was a best phone everybody with enough
money would own the same device
same goes for the "best" rom really

The Kaiser has the makings to be one of the best phone, if HTC were to pull out the thumb from their *ss and start fixing bugs. I am not very optimistic though. So far my impression of HTC is that they fix bugs by introducing new devices with these fixes incorporated and leave us unlucky beta-testers to rot. What they guarantee by doing so is that, while they probably get a lot of new customers, they loose many old ones...
Nobody here likes asus p750 it has more functionalities than kaiser it is fast too (see the alex review in modaco). But only problem is 64 mb ram.
o2's version of the Polaris ( Orbit 2/ Touch Cruise ). Really one sweet device, built in GPS, 128mb memory, 3MP auto focus cam + front facing cam for video calls etc, 400mhz CPU, 3G for speedy downloads and browsing where you carnt use wifi.
Absolutley one sexy device, this is my next phone and will be for many many ppl.

I do not recall 64 MB being a problem when this was the maximum memory available in phones. Now, with 128 MB models available this is suddenly a big issue. Both my previous WM phones, the Prophet (i-mate JAMin) and the Hermes (i-mate JASJAM) ran just fine with 64 MB. Note that these ran WM5. The Kaiser comes with 128 MB RAM and WM6. Is WM6 more demanding than WM5?

Nope, not really.
I personally think the TYTN II is quite up there right now in terms of WM....non WM i agree N95(8GB black !)....also the Sony Ericsson P1 is quite a device but has been overshadowed by WM....its got a 3.2 MP,128 RAM,256 ROM,wifi,Bluetooth 2 wid A2DP,runs the Symbian UIQ....
Well
It's a bit hard, what i would say is the ROM and RAM, personally i found HTC, O2 products are nearly perfect, but just RAM is not enough....so if they can increase the RAM capacity from common 64m to 128m or even higher...then i guess....WOW.....cuz you know as lately most products are already come with built-in GPS, ROM 256m, 1g, or even higher 2g(O2 Flame)....so the crucial part is RAM.....what do you think??
I own the Asus P750, HTC TyTN II, Nokia E90, Nokia N95 8GB, iPhone 8GB and others.
Regarding the GUI/OS/Usability, no phone beats the iPhone.
Regarding camera photo/video quality and size/weight, no phone beats the Nokia N95 8GB.
Regarding internet surfing/display quality(inner display)/keyboard, no phone beats the Nokia E90.
Regarding WM6, no phone beats the Asus P750 which is very fast and has compared to the HTC TyTN II a much better video capability, 64 MB RAM only isn't a real issue.
The Nokia N95 8GB is a very nice do-it-all phone but mostly our American friends seem to be impressed with it, simply because they didn't have the N80 or N95 in time to compare it with. Yes, the N95 8GB is an impressive piece of technology but I started to hate Symbian because of the non-professional, junkie surfboy GUI design look. Seriously, the Symbian guys must get their stuff straight because this is not a GUI design they should use on a fantastic hardware like the N95 8GB or the E90.
OS-wise, I tend to like the iPhone OS and WM6 more and more and if Microsoft succeeds in making WM7 more stable, faster and introducing new and intelligent functions, I'm sold.
A last word regarding the Asus P750: I'm a bit disappointed with the quality of this unit. The external quality is great, very Palm Treo 750-like, no problem here. Apparently there is something "loose" on my device because when I shake it, I hear that something inside the phone is moving. When I talk to somebody, the loudspeaker seems to vibrate with a high pitch trembling noise, like as something is loose and the sound of the loudspeaker makes it move stronger resulting in a very unpleasant secondary noise(sounds like a distortion in the speaker). I can't return the P750 anymore since my wife was clever enough to throw away the original package and the dealer refuses to take it back without it, which I can understand very well. Women...
I'm digging this soon to be one:

Help Upgrade Device.

I have a contract Mobile thats just run out I have to keep contract so have to upgrade (gotta get anything you can for free right). Ive currently got a nicely customised Orange SPV M700 Running WM6 and about 32gb worth of memory cards (mostly 4gb SDHC, cheers for the patch ). Ive tried many Im not limited by network as I always get a complete new contract as you get better offers, and all work about the same. I have tried the iPhone and quite frankly its VV disapointing, got some really nice features, nice and thin but TBH I think I get better sound out of my M700, which I have hooked up to my amp for my morning alarm, however I love the browser its 1000 times easier than anything for WM phones, and the switch for switching between landscape and portrait is good (although my brothers sometimes crashes when doing it???), but overall it just cant be advanced and just doesnt have the support it needs. Ive also had a play with the Athena (well T-Mobile Ameo) and it seems slightly better than the M700 but its huge not something I can just carry round in my pocket.
So basically I have 2 choices just buy a phone that is selling well on ebay and make some money back, or upgrade my M700 to something else but what???.
Also Im tempted to just change my M700 for the white versioon and sell the black version I have just for a change cause I've yet to see any good replacement housings for the M700.
Upgrading Orange SPV M700
I can't suggest what the best phone is to upgrade to as I have recently taken out a contract on an Orange white M700 having had a M500 for 18 months and I am very happy with the phone. I did see a T-mobile windows phone with a slide out keyboard which looked quite nice, but I don't know the specs. By the way where did you get WM6 from as I have still got WM5 and I understand WM6 is a lot better?
Take a look through the Trinity section of this site, I know the phone your talking about its the TytnII I am tempted by it but it looks a bit fat for my liking...

XDA Zest is it HTC or someone else

Sorry if its been answered already, but didn't pull up much using the forum search.
Basically i'm wondering is it made by htc or perhaps Asus or who?
i have a Diamond (Ignito) which i am convinced is the worst phone i've had (ready the flames) i'm tied into an 18 month contract so i'm stuck with it. However my girlfriend has offered me her upgrade being very happy with her Orbit 1, shes a nice lass
i'm looking at the zest and wondering apart from the gps issues if its worth going for (as it would be free)
Anything must be better than the Ignito, i can't hear it, i can't feel it vibrate in my pocket, the battery life sucks etc it promised so much..........
cheers for any replies

its not the same device as the one in that article, however the zest is made by asus (its very sneakily mentioned in the manual ) .
and i feel like im the only person on earth who owns one
but any questions you have about it ask away - i haven't had any gps issues with tomtom7 btw

i have one also mate, got it saturday no real problems with gps using tom tom 6. Also added the google maps application which works with the gps no problems. I'm loving the lack of touch flow 3d, spb mobile shell is good. Shame it feels very cheap, still it was free

i've got an upgradedue next week! was looking atthe zest, old phone was orbit 1, currently got an unwanted orange diamond (unlocked ofcourse!) and in 2 minds, i like the phone, but i miss the quality of the orbit, however i find the hardware of the diamond a lot more stable than the orbit...(would find my orbit would crash randomly with tomtom when u put it to standby mode, regardless of rom, diamond regardless of rom never had the same issue!)
whats the battery life like on it? and gps fix, i use tomtom daily for work and the diamond never fails to impress with its usually picking up a siginal in less than 3 seconds way!

Hi,
I have it. The battery life is really poor. One day, but is really fast. In my opinion software should be improved as soon as possible.
This is a cheap mobile and you don't expect excellent quality.
