Did somebody try a backpack with TV outpout while playing the latest version betaplayer ?.
On the qtek 2020 it is a very good quality and fluid but what about TV out can it reach 25 or 30 frames/s . I searched a lot on the web but no test for many months. :?:
Sorry for the title I wanted to write backpack and Divx
Sorry for the title I wanted to write backpack and Divx
PAL tv's are 25fps
NTSC tv's are 30fps
you can get the fps by [feq. of the ac current]/2
but from what people have told in this forum then the tvout from the backpack can only do 1-2fps or something
so it's for powerpoint and watching pictures not watching video
But on some other forum, I can't find it again, someone is telling that he is watching divx in his car with backpack connected on a screen. So I wanted to know if somebody could test it ? and confirm.
people only get max 5fps which make watching movies somewhat of a slideshow

Screen mirror play videos with MVP (2-4 fps) but not with betaplayer.
Did you test yoursel with MVP ?
I already saw the theads but they are very dated and at that time the imageon chip was not activate what about now and new release. Can't anybody test with actual drivers and MVP or Betaplayer. Because we Betaplayer even 640*480 divx are very smooth.
640_480 ?
on the pda screen ? the xda2 dont go that high
if it display it right then it's just resize it for you
i believed that it was the packpack and not the ati chip which would limit the
fps because they are not limited when being displayed on the pda screen
I agree with you of course the PDA which resize the 640*480. so it means that it is no more a limitation of the machine but I am still supicious about the fact the BackPack can transmit or convert to svhs at 30 i/s.
What is pity is that nobody seems to have a backpack to test it.

hi all..
i have pocket slides and want to connect the xda to a projector for presentations, is there a cable available to do this...
cheers
Tony
There is a backPack module for the XDA II which has an internal battery, a CF slot and a video output port. The video output port connects to a supplied cable for either Supervideo/Composite Video/or VGA output.
I bought one two days ago and used it for a presentation today at a PDA user group meeting in KL Malaysia. Was very happy with how easy it was to use and the quality of the images being presented.
Ed
wow...cool
thanks.. but what make, and where did you get it...
thanks

The BackPack is an O2 product, details are on their website. Where to buy it from depends on where you live I guess. I'm in Malaysia and the unit has just hit the streets here though I believe it has been available in other countries for a while.
Ed
Could I ask does it come with any software or driver?
Thanks
Btw if you look on www.expansys.com you'll see a I-mate and a O2 backpack.
The I-mate backpack is cheaper, but afaik, 100% the same
Yes it does come with additional software and driver.
Two main types of software.
1. Screen Mirror: An application that mirrors (displays) everything you do on the XDA II screen on the projected screen. Very handy for tutorials on software and other XDA II features. I used this to demonstrate some new software at PPC users group meeting in KL on Saturday.
2. Presentation software: For Projecting pdf and powerpoint files. I demonstrated (at the same user group meeting) the features of the powerpoint presentation and found it was crisp, clear, good color retention and very easy to use. Some nice features in this software too. You have an on screen mouse pointer, you can also draw on the screen with multiple color pens. Both the pointer and drawings appear on the projected image as well. But perhaps the neatest feature is the ability to display the powerpoint slide plus your speaker's note on your PPC screen but only display the powerpoint slides on the projected screen. I think that is a very useful feature.
The drivers and software are inluced on a mini CD.
Ed
There are a couple of things I would like to see improved on the hardware side of things.
1. There is no way to charge the battery in the BackPack without attaching it to your XDA II. I would prefer to see an AC socket on the packpack itself so you can leave the backpack on charge and still be using your XDA II.
2. When you insert a CF card into the BackPacks CF slot a little plunger sticks out. The plunger is pressed to remove the CF card. I found the plunger sticking was a bit annoying for a right hander like me. Holding the XDA II in my left hand (so I can use the stylus in my right hand) places the CF slot plunger into the meat of my palm. It doesn't hurt at first but after using it for most of the day it was certainly annoying.

Does the BackPack use the built-in ATI Imageon graphic accelerator?
Would it be possible to use higher resolution (640x480 on TV and 1024x768 on monitor) in all PocketPC applications?
I know this feature is not supported by default. But higher resolution in all apliccations is not supported on Toshiba e800 too, but with some hack you can use higher resolution in all applications.
There are applications for all PocketPCs which emulate higher resolution (using subpixels like the cleartype does). It these emulators you can see that most of applications (word, excel, internet explorer, ...) work correctly in higher resolution.
So my question: - is (or will be) possible to use your MDA2+BackPack in higher resolution (for exapmle for large XLS tables or for web browsing) on TV or VGA monitor? This feature would really be great! Imagine yourself sitting in a softchair, wireles keyboard in your hands and MDA2 connected to your TV showing XDA-Developers website in a full resolution !

... not the backpacki itself, but on the cable (VGA connector) is also the S-Video connector.
But the question remains: will I be able (using some hack) to use all PocketPC applications in HiRes on external monitor (similar hack as for Toshiba e800)?
Sorry by my badly english.
Whichever frames per second have the video signal? 2, 15, 60...?
One divx in TV with 2 FPS would be very bad :-(
hhhmmmm
i doubt that the backpack with vga out would be any kind of limiting factor when it comes to fsp it would al come down to what refreshrate it's running on the top of my head my guess would be 60Hz
this give a max fsp of 30fps
of cause if a tv of any kind of being used it 100% depend on if it's PAL or NTSC
so if your xda can play divx at an ok fps then your external screen should be able to aswell
I have been having backpack for few days. It works at the most to 2.5 FPS. :-(
Hi,
I've been searching the forum and reading a few posts but I still have some basic questions about converting my DVD's to play on touch HD. Apologies in advance if some seem a bit obvious but having never converted anything i'm sure what the best route is. OKay:
1: I've decoded some dvd's and copying them to my hard drive -i presume this is necessary for all dvd's?
2: I then have to convert them to 800x480 - which is the best software? SUPER looks confusing so haven't really used it much, and i downloaded a trial of iSofter which seemed a bit easier BUT which is the best software for a beginner? Something easy and obvious?
3: how long does it take? when I ran SUPER and iSofter it seemed to take 3/4 hours for 1 DVD. IS this normal? Or have do I have to change the settings and choose something to make it faster?
Once I've managed to copy over my first DVD I'm sure all the other posts about quality, resolutions, etc will make a lot more sense. Just want to try and watch one...
Cheers,
Paddy
I always do it a little differently. I use AutoGK to back up my DVD's, which will back them up to CD sized, whilst still being watchable on my TV using my stand-alone divx player, (or the TV out from your graphics card). This typically takes 3-5 hours using my 2.3ghz athlon. If I then want to watch on my PDA, I use pocketdivxencoder, which takes about 20-40 mins to reduce it down.
Both these pieces of software are free, and are very easy to use.
My thoughts....
I myself use Handbrake to rip any DVD that I have to my PC and then use either AnyVideoConverter or Format Factory to convert the files to an acceptable AVI quality for all my family's mobile devices. All 3 programs are straightforward and easy to use. Below are links for you to find out for yourself.
HandBrake
Any-Video-Converter
Format Factory
Hope that helps!!
PS. And as for the time it takes to convert the videos, yes those times are about right, depending on you PC's CPU. The CPU is the single biggest factor when ripping and converting video, with memory coming in 2nd and hard drive space a close 3rd.
DVD Catalyst is the best and will do it all. What format, how good of quality and whatever else you can think of. It is user friendly out of the box/download and as you get use to the settings you can adjust them accordingly. Google it and give the trial a shot. I have use this software for years now and have yet to find anything as good.
I use Magic DVD Ripper to convert DVD to AVI
To convert to .mp4 i use AONE FLV to AVI MPEG WMV 3GP MP4 iPod Converter it actually converts every format not just FLV very easy to use and good results.
All in all a very easy process
Hi All,
Cheers for the replies - really useful. So the timing thing was right, and it looks like that new PC I need will have be bought sooner rather than later as the CPU, etc on current one is pretty slow.
Just one more thing - what setting you guys use? I have a Touch HD so I presume the screen should be set to 480x800, but I haven't a clue about rates, frames pre second, sound quality, etc. Some pointers would be brilliant. So is AVI good for smaller file sizes. The files just have to be good enough to watch on the train etc without to much flicker or jumping. Hopefully I'll be watching The Wire on the train soon!
Cheers (again)

If your going do display in widescreen so the device in sideways then the res will be 800x480 unless the media player automatically does this?
The frame rate want to be the same as original source you can find this by right clicking properties on the file and tab summary, the best format for mobile video is .mp4 as they hold the quality but are low in data, as the less data you have to pull @ a time off a memory card helps too.
Hi there,
Does anybody know of an encoder (mainly .avi .mp4 and .mov to 3gp) that runs on the ppc, I rarely get much time on my comp yet my PDA sits idling when it could be encoding videos that people send me but I cant play.
Any suggestions would be nice, I dont mind about the time it would take or the space I would need
Any help appreciated,
Anti
Id be interested in this too
I remember encoding dvd's on my old duron 900MHz, it took about 9 hours for a 2 hour movies. Therefore the same thing on my 400MHz Hermes now would take about a day. It just doesn't seem worth it. My current 2.6GHz dual core does it in about 1 1/2 hours.
Well obviously encoding a DVD wouldnt work, however, transcoding a larger episode of heroes (xvid ~ 350MB and 45 minutes long) would be much better especially considering it doesnt take ANYwhere near 9 hours on my old 1Ghz pc. My dual core can have it down to ppc specification in 15-25 minutes depending on the settings using Mediacoder.
And lets not forget that the hermes is a device that has been around for awhile. There are ppc's with dual core 600mhz+ processors out now and availible. Besides the way that I would like to use it would be two fold: one to leave overnight for any tv episodes that I can download and two for transcoding videos taken from the phone into xvid on the fly for email or general storage.
I use Coreplayer on my Verizon Ozone for viewing
downloaded videos. Problem is, I'm seeing more and more .flv's that use the ON2 VP6 codec, which Coreplayer doesn't support, (and, according to the developers, probably never will).
Is there a simple video converter that would work on my phone? I have Super Converter on my home PC, but I'd like to find one that works right on my phone.
Thanks!
Verizon Ozone\WinMo 6.1
lol most converts take about an hour on a real pc
on a phone it could take 2 days
I think you missunderstood my 1st post. I'm not talking about full size vids from the PC, I'm talking about short 320x240 vids that I downloaded right to the phone from the web.
Any on-phone converters, anybody?
Hi Everyone,
I m kindly asking you to help me push MS into fixing the avi/xvid issue since conversion times are too long.
edit Several members have also raised concern that the Zune software transcodes videos where there is really no need!

I have created a post on the official MS support forums and the fellow users have supported the post but MS is trying not to give a proper answer on the issues unless people reply enough or click the "I would like an answer too" button. The post seems to be ending up unanswered and pushed back. I need to let the post grab MS attention!
I would like MS to escalate the issue internally but I need more input! So please be so kind!
I suggest that we could do this for other issues as well!!!

It can be fixed quite easily.
1) Write down the spec of your computer on a piece of paper.
2) Go to your local PC shop
3) Hand them the piece of paper and ask for something faster at encoding video
4) Happiness
Yep. Crap computers suck at transcoding video. Even a better graphics card would work much better, since lots of GPUs these days can offload much of the conversion.
Some notebooks were sold without multi-core processors (but are still 64-bit, some people assume 64-bit = multi-core), and lots of consumers have things like mismatched ram sticks and the like that can reduce their computer performance for these types of tasks.
Thanks a lot guys!!!! Appreciated!
It looks like they are still ignoring the issue. I think I might try to upvote the thread tomorrow again.
My general issue is that I am accessing different PCs all the time. Let it be work, uni, friends, or my home laptop. So I generally just need a fast way to get stuff onto the device.
Maybe we get lucky and they enable it again
I personally don't think this issue should have a high priority, as Zune software reencode your file on the fly.
Even at Microsoft, ressources are limited, and there are lots a other stuff I would like first (custom ringtones, multitask, silverlight and flash on the browser...)
My 2 cents.

The issue here is that it works on the Zune HD without re encoding or demuxing and the same applied to the wp7 emulator until they decided to take the feature out...
Maybe it will be a OEM specific feature?!
Name one reason for DivX /XviD support, except that you want to play your pirated movies...
Transcoding XviD shouldn't take much time with a modern computer.
Why do they have to be pirated? There are those of us who have huge DVD/BD libraries ripped to xvid (and later on MKV). Personally I have several hundred DVDs that I have painstakingly converted to xvid for digital storage and easy access from my HTPCs.

You could make the same assumption about mp3s. I started ripping in 99.. I don't have the resources to rerip my music into something better now. And in a real case scenario I don't want to be told 2 years from now that an MP3 player doesn't play mp3s anymore because they are "all" considered to be pirated .....
I have pleny of DVD's/BD that on top of normal movie have a digital copy that can be used with portable players. They come in many formats on those discs and all require to enter a code before 1st play so it can check if it is valid copy.
I do that and then can play them on my PC even via Zune. Formats I have are WMV, AVI, MP4 and DIVX.
My death race in wmv that works on windows 7 fresh install (with no extra codes and net access) is converted by zune. Annoying as zune officially supports WMV and even plays that movie.
Two mp4 movies (Mummy and Mummy 2) from the same Box set one just copies and works one is converted from mp4 to mp4. Some Divx movies are "converted" but it lasts 1 to 2 min aka it only changes extension while some are properly reconverted but resolution or quality are the same afterwards (720p or standard resolution no matter). There is a problem there.
