Going on hols tomorrow and would like to know if there's a simple little program I can use that I can use on the plane to see where I am while on the plane!
Anyone know of any software that can do this? Don't want anything street level, just a good overview of where the plane is would do perfect!
Cheers.
VisualGPSce will give you altitude, heading and speed.
Personally I'd find this interesting.

This app looks interesting. Does it support VGA screens and Landscape?

Actually I'd like to know that myself.
igo8, zoom out to the world and it will show you
I once used my kaiser (with stock 6.0) on a plane and using GPS Speed Sentry, after the speed of of the plane exceeded ~620Km, the phone lost its fix and couldn't get one until the plane landed.
Just a thought.
On my phone the gps attachment only works if radio (i.e. phone bit) is also on. That would mean I would be breaking the airline rules and maybe endangering the flight!
I had my tomtom working on a recent flight back from Malaysia. It was funny to see it trying to lock onto the london roads at 400-500mph as we were flying over towards Heathrow!!
here is a good app that can be v. useful, not sure if the gps will get a fix at those speeds.

Tested it out today, counted from when I opened OCN8 and it took exactly 30 seconds to get a fix. Perfectly acceptable if you ask me, especially seeing as I'll only use it for long drives.
great to know man
Thx for sharing
Did you try any button mapping software?
With or with out A-GPS??

With A-GPS, I don't think you can turn it off.
Only one GPS setting: Enable AGPS: Checkbox.
No, I haven't done any button mapping to the other person who asked.
Is the device as fast as shown in unwired videos?

Yep, 26 seconds for me using Garmin.
And yes, mine is as fast as the videos. Definitely an improvement over the Diamond, despite the Diamond's speed improvements with recent cooked ROM's.
Amazing what a bit of extra RAM will do...
Great, thanks for the info
Since you're using Garmin
I've always found it's notifications to be quite lower than other GPS s/w even when placing an attention tone prior
Is it any louder on the Raph speakers in comparison with Kaiser?

You know what, I've not managed to get a GPS fix using Copilot 7 or Google Maps.
Strange. Very quick for me too.

Make sure to download QuickGPS before you use those programs, that may be your issue.

Fast like, TF3D being fast? Check this video out, AT&T model, 100% out of the box and not 1 tweak applied:

Now with tweaks, it's unreal.
Nope, still not working.
Have you tried GpsTest?

Oh, no...what's that? Is it something built in or is it an app I have to install?
EDIT:
Copilot has a GPS Status thing built in. Looks like I can only see one satellite. Kind of weird.

Are you outside or inside some building?
GPS works fine for me in both Google Maps and TomTom Navigator. Indoors is not so great, but whilst in a car it was fine all the way home on a 30 minute journey!

I'm in my house, my Kaiser right next to it is working fine.
GPS isn't supposed to work indoors... If you need it indoors, you may also need to be living in a psychiatric ward. :\
I got full signal in front of my house according to OCN8's little GPS status bar, for those who care.
As mentioned earlier, QuickGPS will help (hopefully as it has been useless for me since Kaiser WM6.1 ROMs started to be cooked)
BUT
You need to give it time first to aquire GPS fix alone THEN go back to your PC to download the QuickGPS data
To make sure you have everything afterwards successful,
reboot your PDA and see if you can aquire a faster fix.
You can test with GPSTest attached here.
If it didn't solve your problem, check with other fellow Raph holder their Radio versions and yours.
If you are to flash, do not forget to HardSPL your device.
Good luck and give us more feedback

@fireblade63
I'd say the notification volume in Garmin is about the same as it is in the Kaiser, so I agree - it's certainly not the loudest, but I'm someone who likes the Sat-Nav turned down a bit anyway. I hate having the things shouting at me, especially if there are other people in the car who I'm trying to talk to.
My father-in-law, on the other hand, could never cope with the Garmin / Raphael combination because he turns his TomTom XL up to full volume, which drives me mental on the odd occasion I have to experience it!
So, no, the Raphael is no louder as far as I can tell.
Hi, I have a HTC Touch 3G, aka HTC Jade running WM6.1.
I am running Tomtom Navigator 7.9 which works fine.
I always like to set my clocks a few minutes faster than the official time (as a habit to stop me running late...)
However every time I use Tomtom, it acquires the GPS official time, and resets my HTC's system time without asking! It's quite annoying for me. Is there any way I can avoid this? Apart from manually changing the time every time after I've used TomTom?
as a fix, can I run some sort of auto script so I can run a shortcut to make system clock go forward by 5 minutes?
any suggestions would be great. thanks!
how about configuring your brain to think your a couple minutes ahead?

Hmmmm,
Even if u don't like his answer, u'll have to live with it... u can't stop TT from resetting ur clock. Navigation is all about timing. If u have ur clock ahead, u can't get a fix cos TT will see the signal from the GPS as 'too late' and ignore them.

wow! if you cant take a joke (and quite a funny one as well) maybe interweb forums are not the place for you?
here you go my friend
TomTom resetting my clock! HTC - Touch HD
I notice from other people's comments that this may not be a possibility but I am in the UK and therefore in BST, now, when I load TomTom it sets my clock back one hour... this is not something that I can make my brain tell me it's an hour difference - especially when doing a several hour trip and I feel like i'm an hour late! any ideas?
Lewis
Can anyone port this to the HD2 ????????

Yet another toy... if you like this kind of fetish get an iPhone. It is the best in that area. Do not forget what PPC means.
You just can download it here: *CLICK*
Tried it and it does not work. Getting an error when I want to apply anything in settings...
Yes this looks great ,but how to download it? on developers site there is no download link ...
Ups got it
click on the title of the post.. then it will forward to the download
Hmm doesnt work.Error.....
This is what the site says about S'Skin Lock
S’Skin Lock Application has 1 setting menu to set locking time and screen backlight.
Currently they are working on Samsung Omnia only, I have tested them on HTC HD2 too but they aren’t running. If any of our readers got them to work on their devices let us know.
it's on
http://www.wmskins.com/blog/sskin-lock-new-animated-lockscreen-application-for-windows-mobiles
must have hardware detection inside, even on samsung it only work on certain model.
i would like to have that 2
i checked and it requires the flashlite_mmi.dll
it is available in Omnia2 dump OS.nb.
Dont know if it uses any more sensors from Omnia. I would like also to use this one on HD2. Any more advance ppl could help maybe?

We can try to install the adobe flash lite 2.1. Now I can swtich on the setting button in the startMeun. But the srceen lock still can't run. >_<

Whether I have sent an e-mail having asked there will be a support of other phones. I look forward to hearing. And program YellowMan, Butterfly I have started on the HD2 but G-sensor does not work in the program.
But the blocking picture is displayed also an unblocking works correctly. In Butterfly the butterfly flies at a touch to the screen as is shown in video, but the back background is static.

Which steps have u taken to make it work till now?
Maybe we could trick/hack the G-Sensor or smth.
I really don't see anything impressive in that. Actually useless to me. Just as a a guy at the begining of post said: Iphone like fetish... Nice, but useless.

Why can't we have something nice, even if it's useless?!
I completely understand: The iphone is a toy, the HD2 is a powerful device with endless productivity possibilities... But why does that have to mean that the opposite is also true - Only the iphone can have cool toys? Never understood that argument...

Yes, I have. They won't be doing any other versions
I have seen a demo, of turning your camera on and having an overlay of GPS showing you directions, it does not use the map it uses your camera and arrows show you how to get to a location. It also does this while driving. You see the road thru your camera and it shows where to turn and also arrows. Has anyone else seen this ??? Or even know where to get this app. I would sure love to have it. I seen the video only once and can't find it again. I have searched and searched for this app. Could anyone help in pointing me in the right direction...????
Google Goggles?

Thanks now to get the app. My job I travel so much and thought this is the ticket for a great GPS system. Yes I am sure the battery drain is rapid
