Any other XDA forums about? - General Topics

You could try Tekguru but you may not get any more joy for your unusual problem.
Reading your posts suggests that the XDA is actually working when loaded with an O2 post-pay SIM. So the only thing I can suggest is that your XDA is not actually unlocked, though it reports that it is. This would explain why it only works with the O2 PP SIM, as original XDA's were SIM locked to exclude PAYG. You could try O2 Customer Services again to see how much they would charge to unlock.
The XDA II devices do allow O2 PAYG, so it might be worth seeing if you can pick one of these up- prices are falling due to the release of teh new XDA IIs and XDA IIi devices.

Converting an MDA Compact to XDA Mini

Hi folks,
A friend of mine is buying my old T-Mobile MDA Compact off me, he's on O2 PAYG and I'm looking to convert the phone to be as much like the O2 XDA equivelant as posible to avoid network issues.
Firstly, What is the O2 XDA equivelant of the MDA Compact officially known as? I've heard it's the XDA mini, but not sure.
1. Can I install/use an O2 XDA mini ROM (or updated one) to setup the phone for use on O2? I'm assuming the ROM is the only software differance between an XDA mini and MDA Compact.
2. Will this also change the radio stack, allowing the phone to accept an O2 sim card or will i need to apply a seperate unclock tool?
Where can I find O2 XDA mini ROMs? and if needed an unlock tool?
I'm hoping its as simple as just installing an O2 ROM but I'm preparing myself for the worst.
Any help and advice gratly appreciated,
Mike
Mike,
I actually did this about 6 months ago before I left the UK.
My MDA Compact was working fine on an O2 PAYG SIM card with the original T-mobile ROM on the device (I tried it also with the upgrades that were available on the website, though I don't think there are any left online now). All I did was unlock the device to allow it to accept the O2 SIM card.
I got a little bored of looking at the T-mobile bits of the ROM after a while, so I changed the ROM to the generic HTC version. This also worked fine, as it is designed to be universally compatable anyways.
I don't have the file anymore, but the unlock program I used I got off the XDA Developers drive, and I think that it was called xdadev.unlock, though I am not sure.
Hope this helps.
Be sure you are confident in what you are doing before you attempt any of the above, becqause there may be compications in any of the suggestions that I have made.

XDA Network switching

Hi, quick one please.
I have a Wizard also know as XDA Mini S branded to O2... I did recently do the update to WM6 with the Hard method, also used some software which captured settings of the phone, it told me it was SIM unlocked and I know I made it CID unlocked with the Hard thing.
What I want to know is this.
Currently on a business contract with o2, this is expiring and I have sorted out so I get a signal here on other networks by using other antenna (see my other post)... I ebayed a very cheap Orange SIM so I can test the signal, however it doesn't have a number and requires registering and I know I need to give my phone EIMI out. I also have another sim here which works as a PAYG Vodafone which is registered to another hand set.
So, when i put in either vodafone or orange sim into my so called 'unlocked' phone, it just sits there searching away and nothing really happens, no messages just search, I know I should be getting signals.
1: Is this handset locking methods but I am sure im unlocked? Is this because the EMIE and vodafone sim card is not matching?
2: As I am in a business contract with o2, if I register the EMEI number with Orange, will I upset my business phone number (must not do)
All I want to do is see how 'steady' the orange signal is here and also find out what to do next when we change our contract (this month) as I wish to retain my XDA because no 'new' XDA-type phones coming out have no antenna sockets
Any help is good
nobody here?
if i were you i would ask in the forum made specialy for your device
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=289
better chance of getting a reply from people who own the same device
the wiki is also a good place to get info
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Wizard
but it is a question about networks and how they work and not about a particurlar phone.
Quite stunned that nobody is actually interested in helping me on this issue, they seem to be more interested in ROMs are alike lol
Is there any other forums out there devote to Mobile Phones?
Thanks anyway Rudegar

I don't think you can sim unlock using any tool over here at XDA... I mean S-off and root is another thing, and sim unlock is an altogether different animal. I could be wrong, but not to the best of my knowledge. Anyone else care to add something here?
The xtc clip is your best bet. I live in swindon and I unlock with my xtc clip for 5 POUNDS. I do about 4 phones a day I do except delivery. Pm me if u wud like to use this service. All is done through PayPal I do unlocking through eBay.
Have you asked you network provider if they'll do it? some charge for the service.
There are also SIM UNlock webistes....(these are usually about £15) although I believe that they don't all work.
otherwise certain route is XTC
ok
thank you all for your answers, but I need some of the software to unlock it, because I don't have any options beside of that. I'm from RS/BiH, my net provider is MTEL. I've heard that it can be done, and here I'm (xda developer forum is the only place where I can find help, I'm think so).
So if you have any ideas...

Looking at your post history seems you have not read the rules here....below is one that you seem to be violating over and over again.....I suggest you cease these kind of posts now before further actions are taken...
11. Don’t post with the intention of selling something.
Don’t use XDA to advertise your product or service. Proprietors of for-pay products or services, may use XDA to get feedback, provide beta access, or a free version of their product for XDA users and offer support, but not to post with the intention of selling. This includes promoting sites similar/substantially similar to XDA-Developers.com
unlocking your sim
If you are in the UK then any phone shop will unlock the sim for you normally around 10 pounds.
Have not this question in China , haha

Get in touch with your carrier and ask them why the imei is locked
Not sure if us carriers share stolen imeis with Indian carriers
sent from my limited edition red Gnex
It's a at&t branded device, so no other carrier will have any information on it.
Sent from my HTC One XL using xda premium
Do you still have unlock code with you??
Does any sort of OS update happened??
His phone isn't sim locked. It's imei is locked. At&t just started locking them on stolen phones in late July this year.

18th.abn .. thanks.. I thought of sim locked... then I do not think there is a feasible way to recover it.. Is it something like bad ESN for CDMA phones?
---------- Post added at 12:26 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:24 AM ----------
But I thought at&T can block usage of it only on it;s network

That's my point bro ...he's in India so how can an Indian carrier block his imei ....either his imei is 0 or cloned
sent from my limited edition red Gnex
even if they block this IMEI won't it still work with other gsm companies?
it won't work on at&t no?
It's not like cdma phones were its just on a list, which even then when you flash them to other carriers the imei has to be "repaired"(which means changed). With u.s. gsm I believe the lock is sent to device, and the only way to unlock is by a code given by or sent from the carrier.........I'm researching it but I'm 90% sure that's how they are doing it.......and by op screenshot it supports as it is the same with simlocked phones but different msg....if he slides to unlock it probably goes to a dialled to enter code............would like a confirmation on this from the op if he's still here.......
Either way, he bought on eBay so he is protected and can get a refund, or he stole it and is looking for help and there isn't an answer except call at&t

My money's on it being stolen. Yep, I have no faith in humanity.
With the way AT&T is blacklisting stolen devices, it's pretty much like the cdma list. The imei gets blocked from any gsm.

Can they lock the IMEI if you have an unpaid bill with AT&T, but have SIM-unlocked the phone and have a Straight Talk SIM?
I'd suspect even that they may be carrier partners, have roaming agreements an such in place to reach that far. Idk.

all carriers share stolen IMEI numbers in a global list that is available for all carriers, around the world, to use.
In India, it is mandatory for carriers to honor the global block list because of terrorism concerns.
to the original poster - your phone is marked as stolen. The best way to deal with this is to contact AT&T, show them proof of purchase (Paypal receipt, etc.), show them the original craigslist posting, share identity documents like passport, etc. and request for unblocking. Once they have unblocked, then you will have to do the same with your local (Indian provider).

Oh!.. is it. I never thought they will be blocked in India..anyway thanks for the info
I was just about to buy an AT&T unlocked HTC one X from ebay for use in India when I came across this post. Should I be worried? :silly:
Well, I would recommend that you ask him for photographic proof that phone is functioning fine with a simple card.
I also found this link that talks about being able to verify stolen imei in India http://imei-number.com/imei-validation-check/ not sure if it works.
Or you could go my way and buy from XDA. I heard that Swappa is also reputable - but not as much as XDA.

Possible? Metro phone flashed to a S2 (att)

I got a old S2 I want to give to my buddy but shes on a metro. No sim cards.
Now im not asking for any bad advise that might get people in trouble but the guy at store said don't flash phones anymore but he wouldn't explain what that means (prob didn't know)
What did he mean? If there no sim card how did they put a metro phone onto a S2.
Can I do it? I know I got the tools? I can follow driections good... any advise? or just tell her can't do it..
I like her so try and help if you can
What country do you live in? There is a thread in the general forum with information regarding that it is illegal to unlock phones after 1/26. I don't think anyone really knows what the implications are at this time. See that thread for more info.

don't worry about this lol ^^^^
as for your friend, metro PCs?? is I believe a CDMA network, which doesn't use sim cards. Since your phone is GSM phone its hardware is incompatible, no way to make it work.
if you're looking for a CDMA compatible phone loom for unlocked ones in your area with craigslist.com or eBay, make sure they're unlocked and that u get the imei to check If the phone was stolen
I can do that. Well only reason I thought possible is metro git said they used to flash them. Was he full of it
Sent from my SGH-I747 using xda premium
maybe it was a CDMA / international version. the skyrocket is a gsm variant of the s2.
so basically unless he was talking about a different model, yes, he was full of it lol. no sim means no service on this phone
