Hi...can anyone tell me what are CAB and RAR files ? How do i install these files to Xda II ? Is there any program that i need to open these files both in Xda II or PC ? Thanx in advance :lol:
CAB files should be copied directly to your XDA and run with file explorer to install whatever software is in the CAB. RAR files are compressed files that are probably best viewed using WinRAR, do a search on google and you will find a free trial download. Hope this helps

Hi all im new here and new to windows mobile
iv got a hp ipaq with wm6 on it and how do i install themes and programs?
When i download and unzip them using winrar they are saved as xml files when i try to install on my ipaq they dont work!
Any ideas thanks
stop unpacking the cab files with winrar then put them on the pda and run them there

i just tried it there downloaded a program to my pc and drag and drooped it onto my ipaq and then clicked on it in file explorer...
I appreciate this is a total newb question but the search facility is bringing me no joy.
I want to add a theme to change the SPB look. I have downloaded the rar file but it will not extract on my PC. I have copied the file into the SPB program folder and I can see the files when I click on the rar file but don't understand how to extract them to the main SPB folder???
I'm sure there's something really easy i'm missing but my head hurts now. Anyone help me please?

The themes file are .tsk. You should extract those RAR files in your PC and then copy those .tsk file to your memory card but don't put in folder in memory card. After that go to settings--->today and you will see those themes, select the one you like and click ok. It will be changed to that.

Why you should not be able to extract .rar files. I think may be your rar file are corrupt? Please download again. What rar program you use to extract? You can use 7zip which is free.
Been searching a couple days how to install rar files on to my Verizon XV6900 vogue with WM6.1. I am attaching one of the files I am tring to install, for general help. I can seem to install in activesync, from withing sorage card, etc.

Unless you have pocket Rar installed on you device you cant install as its zipped. Download a free RAR extractor on your PC, unpack it and you will find your CAB or files inside...... simply copy them/it to your PPC and voila

I did zip the file to upload it, the forum would not accpt it in rar form. When I put the rar on my device ((XV6900 vogue verizon) WM6.1 ROM 3.14.605.1), I was able to unpack it but there was no cab. I upoaded it tthinking somebody would check the contents and help me out.

Sorry about that Dave, i mis-understood what you were trying to do It would help me if u gave me the link where you got the rar file as it would probably contain instructions as to where on ur device you need to copy the unzipped files to (like /windows etc). Let me know where you got the rar file from.

I use Uniextract http://legroom.net/software/uniextract , it extract the most exe files.
You can do that also with WinRAR, the free 7zip should do that as well - just "open", "show self-extracting archives".
Hi there, I just bought a new HTC 2 Pro and upgrade to 6.5, so now I want to install a few application that I download from here but all I see is files and a setup.xml, there is no .cab file on it. Can some body tell how can I work this out.

What kind of files besides the xml? What were you trying to install?
Does the file you download appear as a .zip when you find all the files (like _setup.xml)? Your internet browser might be renaming the .cab extension on the downloaded files to .zip. When you're looking at the file you downloaded on your computer, does it show up with the extension .cab or .zip (does it look like a filing cabinet or a zipped folder)? If the file with _setup.xml inside it shows up as a ZIP file, rename the extension to .cab, place it on your device somewhere, and open it with File Explorer Mobile (on your device). You're likely opening the cab file one way or another
Thank you for your replys. I am trying to install (Srub) in my phone. when I extrac the files to a folder all I see is _setup.xml, 000scrub.000, 000scrub.001 and thats it. So do I have to rename one of this to .cab? if it is which one is?

Problem Resolve, I upgrade to the later Rom (EnergyROM Leo! Landscape and Documents!) and this rom have an application named (Pocket Rar) so I just create a folder inside my Doc and launch the .cab from there. I love it!!! Thank You all for your help.
