lost data - General Topics

Lost ALL data on my XDA II. Now my PC recognises it as a divverent device. Anybody know how I can get the info from the old ActiveSync profile moved to the new one? There's no backup file. PLEASE reply to [email protected]

well do you mean the files ?
the contacts appointments and note and such ?
anyway all the activesync stuff are located in
documents and settings\USERNAME\Application Data\microsoft\activesync
and also in documents and settings\USERNAME\my pocketpc documents or what ever it's called
but if you dident backup anything then most programs will be requiring a reinstall

please save my contacts list..... please.....!!!!!

Hello,
I need a GREAT favor from someone.
I did the upgrade in my Qtek 2020 for the WM2005 and I have mine backup of contacts made with xbackup in the W2003SE.
What I want, is that someone that has the W2003/W2003SE loads my list of contact in its qtek and make a backup with activesync or with outlook of windows.
Only that way, I will be able to have my contacts in the WM2005 without needing to again make downgrade and upgrade to the ROM.
Who will have the pleasantness to make me this great favor, please indicate its address of email so that I can send the file of backup that I have made with xbackup of my list of contact.
Thanks,
Eng Ricardo Gomes
Hi
I have the same problem. I had the Windows Mobile 2003 SE and upgraded to Windows Mobile 5, i didnt realize the contact situation and didnt even dream activesync 4.1 would not have a backup /restore. I have the backup of my contacts in the following 2 formats
1. Xbackup - wont open says backup information error, in WM 5
2. Activesync - Do not know how to restore
Could some body guide me, i will be really grateful if i get out of this fix.
Thx in advance
Murali
Excuse me , but , i dont uderstand your problem ....
you have a device with wm2003 or wm2003se .... you synchronize it with your pc , and your contact list is savec in your pc's outlook software
you can upgrade your device to wm2005 and synchronize it with your pc .... active sync inject the outlook contact list on your ppc , that's all !!
TofClock is right ... it worked for me after good advice to this effect. Make sure you are using ActiveSynch 4.1 when you synchronize (with Outlook) your PC under WM2003SE, then sychronize back the other way once you have flashed WM5 into ROM.
xBackup
Of course TofClock is right about backing up from PC but the problem that savagemen is describing is different. In 2003 there was a feature called "xBackup" that allowed you to backup and restore 'All Data' or only 'Contacts and Appointments' drectly to/from the storage card. This meant that you didn't need the PC at all. The "xBackup" feature does not appear in the 2005 Program file as it did in 2003's. I was very used to this feature and am desperate to get it on my 2005 upraded sx66. Any ideas?

As written alot about in much threads and forums, the xbackup is not available for wm5.
So for as far as my humble knowledge go's, i'd do it with outlook as leading person to sync the old contacts to the new rom.
Most quickest i think, without any hassle about "what if" problems

We are all reading from the same page. Yep ... Xbackup is no longer needed (or works) with persistent storage. And yes, I quite understand that he wants someone else to put themselves out and load his contacts, calendar and so on. But why doesn't he simply flash back to WM2003 >>> backup with ActiveSynch 4.1 onto this PC >>> flash the ROM to WM5 again and then restore with ActiveSynch 4.1. Problem solved. :!:

PLEASE HELP: how to recover my outlook contacts from WM6.0 ???

Hello,
I just bought my HTC and moved all my contact in there. I never synchronized it with my PC.
Recently, I created an outlook account, then i decided to erase it (the only one left). While doing this, the system prompted that it will launch activeSync and requested the synchronization of Contacts/Tasks/Calender. I accepeted because i thought my HTC was not connected to my PC anyway so it will not cause anything. Bad luck for me, it appears that it did erase all my contacts, calender, tasks (sounds like it synchronized it with empty files) !!!!
No i am in trouble because i lost all my contacts without any backup or having done any synch with my laptop !!!
PLEASE CAN ANYONE TELL ME if there is anyway to recover these data from my mobile !!!! Any place where these deleted items could be retrieved from ?Any recovery tool that i could use ???
PS: I have not performed any soft or hard reset of my mobile yet...
Thanks in davance for your help...
I wonder if doing a system restore on your PC to a date prior to deleting that outlook profile will do the trick?
contact
nope, a system restore "will not" do the trick!!
Sorry to hear you lost you contacts! I know how you feel... The best thing I have done was to sync with an exchange server. Now all that important data is there if I run into a problem. So whenever I flash a new ROM our screw everything up, I just connect to the Exchange Server and all is well.
I fortunately get to use the sever at my work so no $$ involved.

[WM 6] How I can backup contact information without having ActiveSyc?

Hi
Thank you for reading my post.
I have a samsung i780 and ActiveSync does not detect it, I just want to hard reset it (does hard reset delete everything?) to see whether I can make it detected by ActiveSync or not.
I can not afford to lose my contacts information, Also, It will be very good to keep all sms too.
Can you please let me know how I can do that?
Thanks
try PPCPimBackup
http://www.dotfred.net/
To keep the contacts probably the easiest way it to sign up for one of the free online Exchange email accts and let the OTA Active Sync do it's magic. Personally i use mail2web. Doesn't help with the SMS though.
Other alternative that has just popped into my head is PIMBackup, seek and ye shall find on this forum. It will backup the whole thing, Contacts, Calendar, all messaging accounts, basically the whole PIM data.
+1 on PimBackup. It is downloaded as a windows mobile executable. Just copy it onto your sd card (which I hope you have).

how to delete active sync 4.5 partnership from MDA without data loss?

Hi guys,
I have a problem: After total system recovery (notebook), most info from outlook got lost already. Now the MDA touch PLUS (T-mobile) is the most recent backup from contacts and calender. Unfortunately that device already has two partnerships. I don't need any of these partnerships, but I need the data to remain at least for one sync. After that I am planning to hard-reset the mobile device anyways.
Is it possible to delete the partnership info from the MDA without losing the contacts/ calender?
Appreciate any answer!
rgds,
Thomas
Delete the two partnerships anyway. Save any data in the shared folders if used or required. When you create a new partnership you are asked if you want to merge or replace the contacts on the device.
Select Merge and the old contacts are still left there. Worst case scenario is that you end up with some or all contacts on the phone duplicated, and have to manually delete them.
Thanks, but I guess, you got that all wrong.
I have all the data on the device (MDA). So that must not be lost. So, when I now try to sync with freshly set up notebook, I have to transfer the device info to the computer. Then certainly computer has no partnerships and mobile device has two already (before connection).
So in order to sync (for the first time) I can only delete at least one of the existing partnerships from the mobile device and then create a new one with the notebook in order to sync.
hope that makes it clear!
Thanks for any answer!
Thomas
Deleting the partnership from either the PC or the device does not delete any data from the device. You can delete both, it doesn't matter. It is only when you create the new partnership that you will be asked if you wish to replace the data on the phone, with that on the PC. Select merge or replace PC data with that on the phone, and it will copy the phone contacts/calender across to outlook on the new PC. It is only if you select replace device data with data from the PC that you will end up in trouble.
you can always use data backup apps like PIM Backup 2.8 to save your contacts/messages/call logs/apps/tasks............... and then delete the partnerships and restore the backup.

Ok, you got there first this time.
Have had cause to use PIMBackup to save all PIM data when trying new push mail at work. The installation wanted to overwrite everything with my work's contacts/calendar/to-do. As these are diferent, or they were, all i did was backup, install the package, let the synch settle down so my PDA had all my work stuff only and then restore. It then proceeded to push everything up to the works system. Job done. Nothing got lost.
logic is bliss

[Q] Backup contacts, calendar and files from WM5

I have an XDA Argon running WM5. It has on it all my contacts, calendar etc. plus lots of Excel, Notes and other files. It used to synchronise with my notebook PC, but now whenever I connect it to the notebook either the notebook overwrites the data in the mobile, or vice versa. I have not therefore dared to synchonise it for over a year now, so both devices now have a lot of differences. Also I suspect the root of the problem is that somehow the timestamps (or whatever Mobile Device Center uses to control its sync process) have got messed up.
How do I, without risk of losing any data either in my mobile or in my notebook, get the two re-synchronised?
Either I need to back up both sets of data to somewhere I can restore from before trying to sync, or I need a sync process that will never delete or overwrite anything without asking for permission first. So far I've failed to find either solution. I can back up the files from the mobile to an SD card, but I can't find out how to back up the calendar and contacts. Is there a web service that will do it (without connecting to the PC)? Or can I create a new Outlook account and copy the mobile items to it in some way (without the risk that the PC writes the empty Outlook account into the mobile thus deleting everything)?
Hope someone can suggest a safe way out of this mess...
Thanks - Rowan.
