hi everyone, ok iv succesfully managed to flash my new xda exec with jwrights rom (thankyou very much, im loving it!) what im curious about is, i have a rough idea CAB files are programs, but how do i install them exactly? also, i keep reading about registry tweaks, what are they and how do i do them? and finally, iv been playing with the voice command program, and it doesnt seem to work properly all the time, when i ask it to call someone it just shows me there nuame and number then goes back to today screen, is there another program i could install, or maybe im just doing it wrong!!
thankyou very much
Cab files are just run on your device - just double click threm and they will ask you wether to insyall in memory or storage caqrd, most are fine on the card but anything that runs on startup (eg today plugins) can cause problems if not imstalled on the device.
You need a registry editor to edit the registry, there are a few free ones but I use resco which comes with resco explorer.
For general WM questions head over to Modaco - this forum is for ROM hackers amd ROM related queries and Modaco is for general PPC and SmartPhone user queries.

I've searched for months for an answer to removing the system tray on WM5 & WM6
Edit your registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/ Software/ HTC/ Trayapplt
Export the Trayapplt string just to be safe you can merge it back if you change your mind.
Once exported delete the Trayapplt string completely and then soft reset your device.
System tray gone and the space is usable
Enjoy
You could have just removed the Init_Tray.lnk in the windows startup folder.
I afraid for most people that doesnt work as they dont even have that link file. I think the difficulty with the system tray is that different people have different circumstances. Some people can remove the int_tray link but If you search the web your'll see a lot of people desperate for a alternative method as they do not have this file on their devices.
It maybe the case that my method may not work for everybody but until someone produces a stable app to remove the system tray we'll keep searching for the best way individually to achieve this.
Sorry, didn't realize that that link didn't exist on all WM devices, but I haven't owned every device to know that. There are however programs that force the system tray such as DotFreds task manager and MyMobiler, etc, which even removing the Init_Tray.lnk doesn't fix because the icons will create their own system tray. Does your fix for it stop them from doing that? If it does, then I might just have to try your fix out for myself.
So far ive been running this setup for 2 days.
I use xcpuscaler which 110% uses a system tray icon whilst running. Ive also minimised many programs and the tray has never reappeared. Im not garenteeing this will work but I do know that its worked perfectly for me.
I hope this helps and if you export the reg as I sugested if the tray doesnt stay hidden for you for some reason then you can always merge it back
Hmm, my kaiser doesn't even have that key so I guess I'm out of luck there. I'm not sure if my wizard does or not, I'm working on cooking a new ROM for it and the ROM I have on it now is kind of messed up. I'll have to check it out when I get my new one cooked though.
fair enough, it seems to be very device related, im talking intensively to a strong programmer to try and sort out something permemantely.
Im running a XDA Orbit (Artemis).
Willl post any findings here
sorry it didnt work for you

that did the trick for me - thanks
Thanks, just joined today and i am now very happy with the fact this hack worked for me
Joined the forum chasing icons and now i think i wont be able to ever leave
Thanks again.....
No TrayApplt in my registry, unfortunately. Still can't figure out how to remove the tray bar on my Vario II (WM5) permanently. Whatever I tried, nothing worked to my satisfaction..
Edit: No Init_Tray.lnk either! Still looking for solutions, every solution is very welcome as long as it works...
Disable system tray for everything

My Tilt doesn't have that key either. I don't use the tray, have it disabled, but Task Manager always creates it again, until I exit Task Manager.
My Wizard doesn't have that key either.
Programs I have found so far that may cause the system tray to appear:
- Dotfred's Task Manager
- My Mobiler
- Pocket Informer
- SOTI's Pocket PC Controller (or similar: I don't recall its name)
- SPB Pocket Plus
All of these can be made to not create a system tray through their respective settings or otherwise, I believe. Currently I have MyMobiler, Dotfred's, Pocket Informer and Pocket Plus installed, and I have no system tray on my Kaiser. The above registry hack didn't work for me.
I'm using ifonz on omnia i910 but now smart reader stopped working. Any help would be appreciated. I searched the forum and didn't find anything related. Thanks.
what version of s2u2 did you install and did you install it at the same time as ifonz
I didn't install s2u2 unless it was part of iFonz. Any other thoughts? Thanks.
it was a well documented fault with the 1.3x versions on s2u2 that smar reader wouldnt install untill you installed 1.4x
now what version i fonz have you installed. have you tried uninstalling ifonz then trying smartreadr

Maybe this is my lack of understanding but ifonz doesn't appear in my "remove programs." Do I need to just delete the folder that I saved to my storage card? The folder contains the iFonz.exe file among others. Version is 1.1.2-QVGA.
Thanks for your help.
i wouls suggest moving to ifonz 1.0.4
although its a step backwards there not a lot of deiiference
you will need to delete that folder first the install 1.0.4 cab
let me know how it goes im online from 9 til 12 gmt most days
Thanks. I deleted ifonz completely and smart reader still won't work. I've searched and don't even find an application file for smart reader on my device. Just a .lnk file associated with the start menu and of course it won't start because the application file appears to be missing. I don't see how I could have deleted it, but I'm wondering. Maybe I'm just missing it.
By the way, if I can get smart reader working again, I do plan to return to ifonz and will try the version you suggested. I see there is even a newer beta version of ifonz just released but maybe I should stay with 1.0.4? Also, I only find zip versions of the ifonz program. The author says he has removed cab files. Ifonz 1.1.2 was working great and I definitely like the interface. Only problem I'm aware of is the smart reader.
Again, I haven't even installed s2u2 but I'd like to use both s2u2 and ifonz on my device. Just maybe not at the expense of smart reader.
Thanks very much for your help.
well 1.0.4 is a cab 1.1.2 is not
have you installed any else recently that might have triggered the malfunction gimme a list of your apps that you install omitting the rom applications
my smart reader wasnt included in as an exe but still worked
I did some more searching and found the smart reader is actually DioOcr.exe. Also found this information on modaco:
Smart Reader - WinMo @ MoDaCo
unpack this archive and copy dll files to /windows on i900 pda and copy files dio ocr.exe to your memory on storage memory and start it.. in my omnia smart ...

I downloaded the cab file from Samsung site, installed it on my device and tried smart reader again. Still no luck although this time it acted like it wanted to start but never did. First got rotating wait icon which I hadn't even been getting before.
I've installed several other apps but don't think anything interfered with Smart Reader before ifonz. I'll put together a list of other apps I've added.
Thanks.
I've added microsoft livesearch recently and can't say I tried the smart reader after that (but before ifonz), so I don't know if that was a problem or not. Doesn't seem like it should be. I'm removing it to see. Another possibility is scid pocket chess which also includes tcl evolane as part of the chess program. Maybe I'll try to remove them and see if smart reader works again. I think everything else I've added was before the smart reader problem arose. I hate to try a hard reset but do want to get smart reader back.
I deleted ifonz and am about ready to resort to a hard reset and see if that fixes the problem. I appreciate what has been explained about the issues between s2u2 and smart reader. Although I had not installed s2u2 I found some registry entries for it and wonder how that happened. I don't know enough to fool with the registry although I'm willing to try to remove or modify the s2u2 registry entries if that might fix the problem with smart reader. If not, maybe I'll do a hard reset and see if I can get Smart Reader back.
The dio ocr file I referred to in another message was actually for omnia 900 instead of my 910. I hope I didn't screw anything up installing it on my device. I have removed it and now Smart Reader doesn't even show up as an available program. Before it showed up but wouldn't start.
Thanks.
well i n the case of a buggred reg id heard reset coz if you edit it not knowing about it
by the way if you save pim.vol from /mydevice and put it in my storage you can back up contacts but youll need totalcommander to put it back in there as its read only
once you heard reset install ifonz 1.0.4 and then the latest version of s2u2 (1.46???)
my contacts sync with microsoft outlook at work so i guess it's not a problem for contacts. I will want to save photos and some other things so i will copy those elsewhere, maybe just on the storage card. I do use total commander as you mentioned. Thanks again for your help in trying to fix this problem. I'll let you know what happens when I do the hard reset. May not get to that right away.
By the way, are there registry repair programs for windows mobile? I feel fairly competent with some computer dabbling but the registry is over my head. I really don't understand how the s2u2 entries got in the registry when I didn't install it. I wonder if it might have been included in the ifonz program without my knowing it.
well all i know is the reg is a fragile thing so unless you knw what to edit and why youre doing it id leave it well alone
I hard reset and that got Smart Reader back. Then I started reinstalling add-on programs I like. I decided to try Smart Reader after installing each program in sequence to see what may have conflicted with it. Dotfred (see dotfred.net) has a task manager and expanded start menu that I like. This seems strange, but when I installed that expanded start menu, Smart Reader quit working again. As soon as I remove the expanded start menu, Smart Reader works perfectly. Seems like a strange thing to be incompatible but that seems to be the culprit. The Dotfred task manager was not a problem, just the start menu. I've e-mailed Dotfred to see if the developer has any ideas. I'll post again if I learn more. Thanks for your help once again.
I had problems with my Smart Reader too, I remove s2u2 and i try to start Smart Reader but It didn't start again! Then I delete ESET Mobile Antivirus from my Divice and that got Smart Reader back.
So if you have installed ESET Mobile or others Antivirus in your device , remove it and try to run Smart Reader!!!!!
smat reader not working omni i910
icon not working also iomnia910.dont know whch app conflicting.anbody know of anyway to debug without hard reset?got eset antivius noticed comment i will try deinstall
S2U2 volume controll off for run Smart reader
I also have notice that S2U2 with volume control broke the smart reader (don't start), so I have put off this option in S2US menu and now Smart reader run weel!!!
Mrtax
To re-start Smart Reader again
Another way to get around it is to start iLock2.exe which then will close both iLock and S2U2. Doing so shall be able to start Smart Reader again.
Be aware that you need to do this everytime before using Smart Reader. Good luck!

Can someone help me get rid of these useless java programs and some of the att software?
I know there are instructions for the Tilt and the Fuze but I'm not sure or have yet to hear anyone that's had success on non-HTC devices with their methods.
How can we do it ?
To Clarify
How do I remove these ATT bloatware...
I see it here http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=TiltSpecificWikiPage
but there's another thread too but I can't seem to find it.
BUT my big question is, is this the way to do it or do I have to do it differently???
To add another evidence that this can happen...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=459335&highlight=bloatware
But does this work for any windows mobile device on ATT network?
I have done it easily on Moto Q9h but I needed EnableRAPI to accomplish that but it seems that the same XML file doesn't work on the LG Incite, if anyone can get me an EnableRAPI configuration that makes the registry accessible, then I can go ahead and do this for the Incite and share.
Registry
Why couldn't you just access the registry with a program like CERegEdit or Resco Explorer? I tried to remove it via the reset before the customization program(ala the ATT FUZE), however when I hard reset my Incite it didn't reset the ROM(like my TYTN does), all it did was clear the memory.
btw how do you like your incite?
made a search but didnt come up with what I wanted...
what I'm looking for is the comm manager with 3G --> GSM mode among the options
I had it on my topaz, but I'm not quite sure which chef used it, if it was Dutty or some of the other 6.5.1 ROMs
thanks in advance
haven't found anything yet, but making a shortcut to CMBandSwitch from /windows folder seems to work for now
You don't need a comm manager. You can put the 3G option in the default one using Advanced Config. I did that (I like that option too) and it works like a charm. You'll have to give up on one of the existing entries - I chose Push Mail, as I never use it.
hm, had no Idea about that - will give it a try then, thanks for the info!
do you use any special AC (is there a general one for wm 6.1/6.5 or are they hardware specific?)
Nope, just use the last version (3.3 if I'm not mistaken).
got this over at the tweak thread i think, haven't tried it myself though, still using the windows built in but maybe someone else is interested
I'm trying to use CMBandSwitching.exe from the command line in order to be able to script 2G/3G switch over.
I have GProfile running and when i invoke a "Power Saving Profile" i would like to call the CMBandSwitching.exe from the command line and tell it to switch to 2G.
Is anyone aware of such parameters?
Thanks !
