RJ11 to Mini USB - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 Accessories

I have just purchased a holder for my XDA2 which has a mini USB port on it and I want to connect my TomTom GPS receiver RJ11 connector it.
Does anybody have the same problem or a lead which i can use?
Thanks

if the rj11 connector have all the same connections and signal protocol as usb and maybe even a normal usb connector in the other end then you can buy a normal usb to miniUsb converter

The TomTom reciever has a RJ11 connector and i can not seem to find a converter from RJ11 to anything i.e. USB, Mini USB, etc.
Do you know of any places?
Pratik

well rj11 is a phone connector right ?
and you are sure it's even usb compatible signals running in it ?
i mean if it's analog modem data stuff then converting that signal to something which usb can work with would be a pile of work and end up being more expensive then getting a new gps

True.
RJ11 is a phone connector, but the information from the gps reciever is just being passed to the PDA holder which has a Mini USB connector in it, so I don't think any data conversion is necessary.
The RJ11 has 4 wires in it and the Mini USB has 5, maybe i need to open it up and desolder the mini USB and put in a RJ11 female connector, this then brings me down to pin-out etc.
Do you have any information regarding hte pin-outs?
Pratik

you can get a cable with a mini usb in one end and normal usb in the other if you can get a cable with a mini usb in one end and a female usb in the other then you can connect the usb to xda connector cable that way
of cause that way is way too long but it should make it rather possible to connect the xda to the holder then that is unless
the pda holder and miniUSB connector's signaling require the pda to be a usb host which the xda1 and 2 is not able to be

Maybe we are getting the wires crossed.
The following is a link to the holder
http://www.pdamods.com/proddetail.asp?prod=SPKXDA2&cat=75
The XDA2 sits in the holder just fine and charges at the same time, as it has a connector on the holder, the problem is the GPS connector.
I don't understand your responce to the XDA being a host?

RJ-11 to Mini USB Adaptor
I have a pocket, USB Modem at home, and it is RJ-11 on one end, and Mini USB on the other.
Have you tried looking into something like this for a solution?

Modding cradle for GPS?

Hi there,
I currently have a recently deceased ipaq 3630 with GPS cable, currently hardwired into my car (I just took the plastics off the plug, hard wired it to ground and ignition power and re-boxed it)
Anyways, I also have an Orange M1000 with 2 cradles, and I'm a cheap*ss mofo.... so what I'm basically planning on is:-
get pinouts for ipaq 3630
get pinouts for M1000 (I see they're in a post in this forum)
cut ipaq end off GPS cable and strip
cut usb end off M1000 cradle cable and strip
using multimeter buzz out the pin -> colour on each of the cables
wire together
glue (or duck tape or something) cradle into car
I'm working on the theory that the gps -> ipaq connection is going to have power and tx/rx which will be all I need for the gps, and that the M1000 cradle will have the same for activesync.
Anyone done this or similar, or does anyone think I'm just crazy?
Cheers
Doogie
Answering my own question because noone else did
The cradle I had was for USB not serial and I couldn't manage to get serial over USB option working in tomtom..... I opened the cradle (T6 driver), split the cable to leave the power going where it was but split out the 2 usb cables and I buzzed out some points on the board where there was connectivity to the 8 & 10 pins... little bit of soldering and reassembly and I now have a serial cradle with power that connects to my GPS..... now just need to make it look purty in my car

n00b Charging Question

I want to get a second cable to charge my touch pro while I am at work, can I got and buy any 5-pin mini USB cable or do I have to order a HTC cable?
Standard cable will be fine
I've just looked at the USB cable Expansys sell (http://www.expansys.com/p.aspx?i=166227) but looking at the picture the plug is a differant shape to the socket on my Touch pro. I can't find anywhere that sells a cable that looks like the socket (rectangular with bottom right corner chamfered, I assume everyone is the same). Can anyone point me in the right direction?
You already have answer from ardsar
For charging standard mini-USB cable is ok.
Yes, and what I said was that a standard mini usb has a differant plug. How can I use it if it has a differant plug?
yes it does, but so did the HTC3300, but the charger and data cable use the 'standard' mini usb connector.
I have one (car charger and 'standard' usb cable) and they both fit fine, work fine and charge fine. so no need to worry.
Basically, a normal mini-usb plug will fit in HTCs proprietary socket

PC doesn't recognize my Diamond on the cable I've bought

I've bought mini USB cable with charging option and charging works great but my PC doesn't recognize my HTC Diamond connected with that cable to USB. It works with the original one but with that I've bought synchronizing data on any USB ports just doesn't work.It seems that PC needs special driver for that cable.
Could anyone Help?
all (mini)usb cables should charge your phoen when you connect it to the PC anyway so i don't understand how this cable is different, could you please provide a link to it or something?
I got a mini USB cable used with my mp3 player and it just synchronizes data with my Diamond but it doesn't charge so not every mini USB cable sync data and charge...
I've bought my cable on polish auction site byt that one mini USB cable is exactly the same.
The problem is you have bought a "charging" cable, I'm guessing if you chopped it in half (please don't) there would only be two wires, a positive and negative.
These cables are designed to provide power only, otherwise the cable would be a lot thicker.
You would want something like this:
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/95790
But don't quote me on that or you might get the same problem, ring up before you buy.
The cable you have with your MP3 player wouldn't be designed to charge if your MP3 player isn't designed to charge, manufactureres will save money even if it's on a few strands of extra cable.
There are 3 types of cables I've come accross:
1) ExtUSB -> Used by HTC only. Main difference is that this cable can transport audio as well. You only need to use this cable if youre listening to songs. (Your earphone connector is a true extUSB one) - the rest is the same as miniUSB
2) Normal miniUSB -> You can use this cable for charging and synching. As simple as that. Same cable used by non-HTC devices
3) Abnormal miniUSB -> Heh.. I don't know what to call this, but im sure you've seen some really thin retractable cables. They seem to work with certain devices only. I have 1 and it used to work on my Cruise/Artemis/Atom, but NOT on my diamond. Nevertheless, I can charge the device ONLY. -> I believe you've encountered this kinda cable
Check out the following posts: I've got a solution if youre really onto retractable cables that will sync+charge your diamond:

http://www.ppcsg.com/index.php?showtopic=101534&view=findpost&p=744813
Cheers.
I'm sure I have encountered 3rd case. My retractable cable description says that it is for synchronizing data and charging but as you said maybe it works fully only with certain devices.
I think I will look for USB hub with retractable cable and that I've bought I will use for charging only...
Thanks

[Q] micro usb cable help (pinout++)

I bought some really cheap retractable cables of ebay. When I got them they didn't work at all. I opened and rewired the micro-usb connector - the cables were connected all wrong, but after a little soldering I think they're correct.
Now the cables are working fine with my Nokia N82, but when I connect them to my Desire and Desire HD my computer won't recognize it as USB devices, only charging.
I've looked at the pinout here http://www.kineteka.com/microusb-b.aspx - should pin 4 be connected to GND to use it with HTC?
Any tips?
I was curious of the pinout, thanks for the link.
As far as wether the pin should be grounded, well... if it's not working ATM ground it and see if it works? Since you're successfully charging the phone you know you connected the +5 correctly, grounding any other pins won't cause damage...
Cheers
P.S. Also sometimes good to check the obvious, did you enable the Mass-Storage option in Android?
I've had similar issues with USB 1.1 ports.
Are you connecting it to a USB 2 port??

Tf300t keyboard dock mod USB connection

Hi all,
I am trying to mod my old tf300t and keyboard dock into a dex dock for my note 9. Im not worried about the tablet portion as i can get a lcd controller for the panel. However ive been soldering and desoldering for the last 3 days. I am trying to leverage the docks kb controller and add a usb connection or modify the dock port into a usb.
I have looked at the various pinouts but cannot get the keyboard working.
I dont care about audio or sd card or the extra usb port.
Any help or pointers would be great.
Here is a mockup of the pinouts i have soldered based on the pinouts i found
Ive been trying to test it on an old s7edge incase i wire something wrong. It detects a regular keyboard but when i try this nothing...if i use the wall charger i see that the dock is charging but still nothing at the dock connector. Ive been trying with a usb 2.0 cable. Connected to the d+ d- vcc ( all 3) and multiple grounds and i pinned the sense pin to ground as well.
I have also tried to open the charge cable and solder the usb to the data pins on that both with and without ground. And use a 5v plug and the original asus plug.
The dock port is basically garbage at this point so if i plan to use that i need to use the 2 20 wire connectors and map the individual wires .
I have managed to get the s7edge to detect that something is connected. However i then resoldered the pins to try more as it wasnt working. So i need to go back to the beginning to try again. I believe my issue was due to the otg aspect of the usb. Im using an adapter for the phone but i also tried to wire the connector the same way. Ill take some pictures of it later if i can get it working
So not sure if anyone is following this thread but i have made progress.
I have totally butchered the original 40 pin connector and now am tapping into the 40 individual wires that connect the main board to the connector pcb. I can get my s7edge to detect that the usb connector is attached but it keeps telling me that a high power usb device is attached and that it needs an external power source.... so today i busted out the multimeter and i believe i connected one of the usb host vcc connections to the other vcc connections so i separated this. I also believe that the s7edge has some usbotg voltage issues so im going to test it with an old macbook pro with windows to see what it picks it up as. When i get some more time i will try to trace the other wires there might be something else needed
Maybe
Nice job, I'm not particularly knowlegdable in electronics but I remember there is a battery portion in the dock? Maybe it causes some error during otg?
