Hi,
Finally I've managed to get one of those phones - as a replacement for my Exec (best phone EVER! IMHO) and here I am!
I really want to change ROM ASAP but I might have a problem with hardware so want to check that first before doing HardSPL
- is your speaker really quiet? To the point that you can't hear TT/hands free?
- while playing teeter does your back cover gets hot? (in area of the speaker, battery is cold)
- sometimes no sound while playing teeter (possibly other games but haven't tested that yet)
- can you hear "gsm noise" every so often from that speaker? (don't know how to describe it, basically same noise as from other speakers when phone is connecting to the GSM BTS)
I'm still using Official UK O2 rom
many thanks for your help!
Cheers
Chris
XDA Serra
Hello!
columb, I have had my XDA Serra for just over a month now, with changing of the ROM, I'm not sure if its entirely necessary unless you need the standard one for a particular reason! I do recommend downloading the youtube App and quick gps patch from o2 if you want to use gps. I use copilot live 7 and its really good, fab phone! I upgraded from a XDA II so quite a jump, similar to the exec not quite as good tho!
With regard to your problems, I'v checked these with my friend who has a HTC Touch Diamond, (the non o2 keyboard-less version) and his is the same.
- My speaker is not the loudest in the world but still very audible
- The phone gets warm on the back when doing anything intensive, not to surprising considering the processing power/graphics of the phone, and after combing the manual found that o2 say that it is completely normal, just warm not hot.
- I always get sound with teeter unless system volume turned down ( obviously) so not sure about that one (be aware system volume is still separate to ring volume as on previous windows mobile)
- I don't get any GSM interference with the phones internal audio on any channel, not sure about that one again. There may be problem with your internal speaker.
The O2 rom isn't that bad, I'v compared it with the HTC rom seems to be just as responsive, if perhaps not quite as good looking.
Hope thats been some help!
Regards
Ed
Compaq Ipaq
XDA II
XDA Serra
I am also using Serra.
speaker is not loud but it is acceptable for TT with voice.
try search "audioparam3.csv" in the forum you may get louder volume.
And I saw a thread in the forum cut backcover of the phone to make it louder and sweeter.
EXEC has two (or three?) speakers and it is very chunky so it has excellent stereo sound quality. However I couldn't imagine how to use it as a phone. It looks like a laptop or a brick.
I feel that most customized ROMs here are better than O2 one and you can always burn it back to original ROM anyway.
backcover does hot sometimes. I guess that is RF Radio module near tweeter area
Same problem
not sure if it helps but i have exactly the same ploblem with my phone.
the digitiser stopped being reponsive so i took mine in for repair. o2 took a month to fix it they did a half asses job and put in a new digitiser bur left the glass laminate which is coming un laminated and has a washing up liquid effect in the middle of the screen.
anyway when they repaired it they also upgraded the software' last night i had to make a call in the car' not having paired it yet with the bluetooth stereo i used the loud speaker. after 10 seconds or so it all went quite. i toggled loud speaker off and on again. it came back for a few seconds and went again.
i also get pops from the speaker occasionally and can here the same gsm noises at the end of calls.
the phone never did it before the rma and software upgrade so its going back.
just thought i would let you know its not just you.
i think some of the earlier hardware has an issue with the latest O2 rom.

#1 Battery

1) Speaker phone doesn't work sometimes. You press the button to enable it and there's a minor lag, when it does enable and you try to speak the other person can't hear you and their voice continues to come out the ear speaker not the large speakers. Its almost like it mutes you. Again, this happen ONLY when you press the button and there's a lag that this bug happens. Its not constant either, sometimes the speaker phone works fine.
2) Random reboots of the phone.
3) Try turning the phone off and sometimes it sticks n the T-mobile Goodbye screen.
4) Phone LCD screen bleeds on edges.

Great Idea! The only one I have:
1) LCD ''bleeding'' on top left and right corners of the screen. Really Annoying!
2) Now just a couple of days ago my phone started rebooting itself randomly! I had no issues for the first 4 days after buying the phone. What is going on here?
1) battery drain
2) reception
3) cell standby
4) lcd screen bleed
sent from my G2X with no regrets
1) Battery! (seems like a quite popular problem regardless of what android device were talking about.)
2) Very minor bleeding, mostly on the bottom right corner, not near enough to make me cry about it.
3) Is that really considered 4G? ._.
4) No custom rom. :|
Sent from my rooted G2X
1) Data disconnects are infuriating never had so many "Message was not sent" notifications on a device
2) LCD bleeding
3) No HDMI cable
4) Back cover - Not really an issue but a gripe I feel like everytime I take it off its gonna break, so cheap
1) headphone reboots, and or doesnt recognize the headphones
2) Random reboots of the phone.
3) Black Screen Lock
4) Phone LCD screen bleeds on top two edges
5) Battery life is pretty bad, unless I use juicedefender
6) data 4G/wifi change issue
7) reboots at least once a day
8) navigation loss, or phone freeze (requires a battery pull)
1) Cell Standby - battery hogging.
2) No Gingerbread (yet)
removed missread
1) I have checked 10 devices so far and all of them had backlight bleed, some worst than others. Several of them had brown stains in the screen when on a white background and 1 was entirely tinted yellow.
2) First one rebooted itself 3 times an hour seemingly at random.
3) 2nd unit couldn't lock GPS and when it did it was miles off.
4) earpiece sounds digitized and staticy compared to my nexus one when on phone calls.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
1) phone freezes during charging (must do a battery pull to reset)
2) random reboots
3)LCD backlight bleed in top corners
4)battery life issues
1) Occasional Reboot (Only happened Twice)
That's it surprisingly my battery lasts 20 to 25 hours and no led bleeding.
1. Random reboots. (I just got my 3rd reboot a minute ago)
1) Wired headset icon appears in the status bar when a headset is not connected. This is completely random too. Happened on a call once and no sound came out of earpiece.
2) Data connection\ cell reception blows. I never thought i would say this but my Vibrant would blow the G2X out of the water in cell reception.
3) LCD bleeding. Not a huge gripe but we shouldn't have to deal with this on a $550 device.
4) Battery life. While mine is not as bad as others, I really thought the dual cores in this phone would increase battery life over a single core device.
1. lcd bleed
2. few random reboots will using apps
3. speakers sound saturated
haven't had enough time to play around with a lot of other things....
1. Cell reception (my first sidekick had better reception)
2. Battery drainage
3. Extremely quiet speaker (how come I'm hearing from others that sound is great?)
4. LCD corner bleeding
I'm lucky I haven't had a single random reboot. Other than the above this phone is top notch, has so much potential. Which is why I'm sticking with it, hoping things will get fixed in the near future.
1) Wifi/data just dies, only way to fix is to reboot. Very annoying.

1. Wifi/Network handoff
I noticed that after a restart and even though the phone is displaying wifi, it will still try to use the network for data and after about 5 minutes, it works as normal. I suspect the Tmobile myaccount app doing it, but not sure. I think it also affects every app on the phone that uses data. If I open any app during the initial 5 minutes such as XDA or market, it won't load. After the 5 minutes, those apps that I opened in the 5 minute window will act like wifi never activated, I would have to clear cache and force close to get it to work again. Something is wonky with the wifi/network hand off. LG/T-mobile doesn't seem like they tested this phone very thoroughly.
I hope CM7 will fix the programming screw ups of LG.

______________________________________________________________
What I noticed:(Please note that I have obviously checked the ones I was finding troubles with)
- WIFI: Noticeable change in signal strength. I have tried with being almost 15 metres away from the router and having 2 walls inbetween. Ofcourse, not the strongest, but better - Credit to the new BaseBand. Best performance not checked < known to drain bettery.
- EDGE: I dont use 3G, but EDGE connects fast and does its job.
- Keybd Response: No noticeable change, still lags and skips touch at times. Mangeable.
- Signal Strength: I am definitely seeing a better strength as now I get no call drop at places in my house where the call used to drop.
- Death grip: Present. Leads me to believe that this is a hardware issue. However I have zeroed the death grip to - left side, little lower than the middle of the back of the phone + the bottom right corner - Implying you have to simultaneously conduct these surfaces for the drop of signal to occur. So avoid touching there (atleast, simultaneously)
- Volume level: Not much change noticed, still low and tend to miss calls.
- Call clarity on high in call volume: Seem to have some what gotten better, now I can keep the in call to about 5th level and dont hear the cracking (echoing - type)
- GPS Lock: Noticeably faster and better, Could lock to satellites in seconds - INDOORS!!
- Much better memory management: The sense seem to use lesser memory now and is definitely smoother and faster - more responsive. I use Quick Sys Info Pro, and now it shows more free memory at any given time.
- Battery: YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It seems even better now. Standby loses almost nothing. Had it on 81% - after that downloaded upgrade, upgraded, used the phone as normal.. now after about 12 hours, still on 39%.
- Camera: Seems to focus better and the output is OK - Not much difference to the naked eye. I set Sharpness to -1 and Exposure to +1 - Seems OK <Still miss the HD2 cam!>
-Twitter/ Facebook: Connects faster, definitely. Lesser time to refresh, again remember I did these tests on EDGE, not 3G or Wifi.
-Talking tom works again without losing the sound
Well thats it from me!!
Hope this helped
Cheers!
EDIT: Please note that this is not an "official" changelog from HTC, this is just what I have noticed
EDIT2: If you want me to test something for you before you upgrade, please post. Will be happy to help out
Thanks so much for the input. I haven't upgraded yet but am sure excited to.

wifi signal does seem better, but if u have wifi enabled and do allot of moving between places it seems to drain the battery very fast, other day mine didnt even make 12hours, no different apps running. Yet day before at home it last a good 20+ hours.

Where did this upgrade come from?? I didn't see one out for T-Mobile yet.
Check
Setting > About Phone > Software Update > Check now
If there is one for your phone then it will show.. otherwise you will have to wait..

but if we get perm root before that then you dont have to really worry bout dat
Hey,
When it's absolutely silent, I can hear strange noises from both speakers.
Is anyone having the same?
Next problem is, that the shield tablet on Lollipop is active every time. I have a normal setup as I have on other tablets, nothing special, but battery drains very fast.
Hi,
I am having the same issue. 3G / LTE can be heard very distincly during usage, and graphic load as well. Going to replace my unit within 14 day warranty tomorrow, so I can tell you if the issue persists with all devices or you should RMA it.
That's common...

Truly?
Well, thats really annoying. Thought that more and more people complain about this, if it is common.
So I replaced my device and the issue remains. I even tried different SIM card, but same result. Whats worse, this time I got faulty display as a bonus, so I immediately returned the unit and await third one tomorrow.
Its annoying but its only remarkable when it is completely silent.... That is why I think most of us can live with it.

Yes, my display is very yellow on the top. The first 1,5 cm complete and then it's okay.
alright, upon my 4th RMA I managed to get tablet which does NOT make the feedback sound when 3G antenna is transmitting. Unfortunatelly, they seem to have changed the manufacturing of new batch of tablets, and every new unit I had recently, has very visible display touch grid.
the pattern is visible only under light and from specific angles.
It is something like this:

: : : : :
__________________________________________________
: : : : :

makes it visible even on turned off display.
This is the digitizer....

The digitizer being visible only under light or when the screen is off is not an issue, that's very normal. If anything, I like the way it looks personally.
I do hear a noise from mine when it is quiet, but only when plugged in to the charger. Then again if it is LTE noise I likely won't hear it unless we somehow get Voice Calling working (at which point I'll drop my phone from my plan and replace it with the Shield and a bluetooth headset given I only use my phone about once or twice a month outside the house.
I really think, mine isn't okay. No LTE here, it's only a WiFi model. But this sounds when I'm in bed are too loud on the speakers. Then the yellow tint on the above, my battery doesn't last long, screen freezes from time to time for a few seconds. I think this together isn't normal.

RMA it! And don't give in, until you are satisfied with your unit. Took me 5 units to get one without 3G antenna noise and had to specifically request they take this one from differnet warehouse / different batch, and voila!
Yes, new device is here. The yellow tint is nearly gone, the noises are not as loud, touchscreen response is much much better, the system doesn't hang anymore, even when installing apps! That was a disaster on the old one. Hoping now for better battery, but seems to be okay (when I can say that after one evening)
what is expected average battery life on this unit. trying to compare.
Btw sry , don't mean to hijack the thread, been having some small issues with the sound my self... not a big deal, but the battery life isn't stellar either. On optimised with brightness at 30% I get 4-4,5 hours of screen time..... ==
Yeah, should be normal. It's not the best battery management in shield, I think.
The very lite crackle sound is only noticeable to me when it's completely silent in the room so I've never bothered with trying to RMA it considering everything else is perfect, but glad to see this is pretty much normal.
My Nokia 7 PLUS was bought mainly as a backup phone and to experience pure Android without paying an insane amount for a Pixel. I like my new Nokia but there are so many positive reviews out there that tell you why this is a good purchase, so I'll try to mention the weird stuff I've experienced. This phone has been my daily driver for 2 months now.
First and foremost the quick charging issues that I have another topic going about, so I'll skip this part.
Wi-fi disconnecting and giving me a notification sound. I don't know if I'm just being a noob here, but getting "ghost" notifications throughout the day has been a bit bothersome. At first I didn't know what was going on, I was seemingly getting notification sounds without there being any updates for me in any apps. But the other day just as I unlocked the phone I got the sound and saw the wifi being disconnected for a splitsecond. I don't know how I turn off wifi sound notifications without impacting other more important sounds so I guess I'll just have to live with this. But it's still annoying to get this sound if the wifi DC's for half a second.
Rubber around the edges of the screen coming loose. I got the bronze coloured model and if you look just at the edge of the screen there's a millimeter thick bronze frame, and between that frame and the screen some sort of black rubber or adhesive is starting to come loose. I noticed this about 2 weeks ago and I thought it was a hair that had become stuck and as I started pulling about 5 cm of black rubber came loose along the screen. I think the rubber casing that was with the phone is the culprit, because when your phone is in your jeans for several hours a day the "case" seems to dig just at the edge of the screen which could cause this. The rubber that has come loose was not visible before and it's not visible that it was been removed either.
Google Assistant opening seemingly randomly. I have two phones on my computer table just to the left of me, both with Android Nougat installed and Assistant enabled. Sometimes I sit in complete silence and play PC games, only with audible key clicks and Google Assistant will open on my Nokia 7, yet it has never happened on my other phone (Galaxy s8+). It's spooky in more ways than one.
The 3.5mm jack port is behaving weirdly. I've tried with 3 different headphones and it's always the same. I need to push, pull and turn before the headphones get properly connected and still then they can get disconnected at any moment. You can probably imagine how much of a nuisance that is if people around you don't agree with your musical taste. (hint: train rides.)
This may seem like a long list but my overall impression is still largely positive, especially when it comes to lack of bloatware, duplicate apps and the battery life is outstanding.
The headphone thing I find as well but I have a carbon fibre case on my 7+ and this is what causes it as if I remove the case the problem does not manifest. The other things you mention I have never had. I have the TA-1055 UK version since its release.

I really don't recognize any of your complaints. I can't type a long search query in the adressbar in Lightning, but that's about it. Maybe you should RTM your device.
The ghost notification sounds annoys me as well.
My headphone jack works fine.
Issues I have:
Ui stutter/lag compared to other phones.
Phone showing as uncertified in google play store.
Not getting android updates (still on may patch).
Battery not as good as expected for the battery size the phone has.
Don't experience any of the above issues here. Fully reset you phone or RMA.

Thanks, did the first part and saw an improvement, but will this impact battery life? Because I will gladly keep the stutters if I lose my almost 2 days bat life
About a week since I have received the phone.
The mobile connection is usually 4g+ to 4g. depending on where I am I guess. However, I have noticed that on phone calls, the icon changes to hspa+
I don't notice any speed change but I'm guessing this is related to no support for VoLTE?
Also, I notice that from wifi to mobile transition occurs very sluggishly. Sometimes on banking applications the wifi doesn't work which is odd, but it doesn't connect to mobile on the fly either. Usually I have to turn off the wifi for it to work.
I've also had some weird experiences with my N7 plus.
1. Headphones do not work randomly. When this happens only the speakers work the ear piece on the phone doesn't work as well. Phone needs to be rebooted to fix this.
2. Some apps, such as Prime music and Quora, do not work when connected to the TP link ADSL router aty home. The iOS versions of the same apps work from the same router. Apps on the Nokia start working only when I connect to mobile data or office WiFi.

Volte is a mess on Android. In the UK it mostly only works on iphones or Android devices bought directly from the network who modify the firmware.
That said I'm on BT Mobile in the UK (uses EE network) and Volte and wifi calling work well based upon my experience so far using Oreo 8 with July updates.
Since the day I started playing PUBG, the call speaker is acting quite weird. Many times when I get a call, the speaker will be automatically turned on, but it doesn't show that. I have to turn it on and back off to hear it from the earpiece. It mostly happens when I'm in a game. But it has happened other times as well. I don't know if it is a problem on just my phone or android in general. Anybody have any fix for this?
