The Case of The Crazee Keyboard... - General Topics

Once upon a Time the Keyboard was a simple tool on The XDA to Enter letters into boxes, But then the dark Goblins came out and Started Fookin with it, Now the keyboard does the strangest of things. In Short My keyboard Plays up at least a couple of times a month! You know when you get that ickle box appear above the keyboard with suggestions to what your typing? Well it seems to be that this little box has issues, I have all the suggestions I'm Allowed to Have and very rarely but Annoying this thing happens, If I click a 'Suggestion' I can get anything from My start menu opening, To my phone turning off (Not reseting just standby) and a whole load of weird Things! Its like Its acting like a short cut. Maybe I should read what I'm clicking maybe the suggestion to 'ope...' that im typing was 'Open my Start Menu cause I'm trying to type...' or 'Clos...' giving up a Suggestion saying 'Close windows and send my text to Drafts because thats what you need when your in a hurry'. Have any of you guys had this Problem Cause It's Really weeeeing me orf.

Start menu popping up - Grrargh!!

I wouldn't exactly blame this problem on any one ROM, though it does happen more often on my Dutty Touchflo Tilt ROM, beta 2. It has happened on every ROM for this phone, though.
Basically, the Start menu will pop up for no reason. At first, I thought I must be hitting the button, though it happened far too often to chalk it up to user intervention.
Now, I have my phone sitting on the desk, and it's been waking up every few minutes. This happens probably every 5 minutes or so.
Any idea what could be causing it??

One possibility is that part of the case/bezel is pressing on the digitizer in the area of the start menu -- This is the worst case scenario though. When the start menu appears do you lose touchscreen functionality?
interesting
I have not heard of this problem, might be your phone. Sorry.
On an unrelated hijacking note: does anyone know how to make the start menu solid instead of displaying my background picture?

Nope. I can simply click elsewhere and the start menu goes away. It is driving me crazy.
maybe.....
have you tried reassigning your start menu key? and I assume you've tried a hard reset.
I figured it out! The phone is connected via USB to my PC, and I'm using My Mobiler to be able interface the phone (send/receive txts) from my computer.
If I push the mouse to the upper-left most corner of the screen of my PC, the start menu comes up on the phone. Weird....

Two Really Weird Slowness Issues

Has anyone else had this issue? The Messages Option on the TouchFlo 2D screen rarely works. This is not a ROM-exclusive problem for me (it happens on every flash eventually), I just can't understand why most of the time when I click it, the title bar changes from "Start" to "Messages" but nothing else.
I also have an issue with the top-right program showing option having a huge delay on it. Like, twenty seconds. Usually right after I press down a second time to see if it registered, it will register both at once, and cancel my first click out - extremely frustrating.
No one has any suggestions?
that is wierd... u reset ur phone regularly i assume?
Me too
This has been a problem for me from day 1. Frequent resetting and thank god for HTC Clean RAM (you can find it here in this forum with a search).
One thing that is a prime suspect is ActiveSync, which has never worked properly for my Fuze. I have found that it remains running on the phone in the background, and the ONLY way I can get rid of it seems to soft reset, and then use the drop down in the top right to kill it beceause even AFTER a soft reset it keeps running.
So not much help, but misery loves company so you should feel better now

g2x screen calibration issues!

is there anyway to calibrate the screen? im having some calibration issues with my g2x and restarting the phone doesnt help!
I just looked through the hidden menu list. I don't see anything about calibration.
Out of my last three phones that had touch screens, Ascend, Evo, and Indulge, It seems like only one had a calibrate screen option, so I don't think it's real common.
What problems are you having? I've noticed a lot of times with my G2X that when I push a link, it highlights right above it. But the link still works.
I have issues as well, there are no calibration settings in Hidden Menu. Sometimes I press on the screen and it hits something else. Sometimes, I'm not even TOUCHING the phone and it will, by itself, select and enter into different apps on my screen. I thought I had a virus on this thing.
I checked around, other people are having these issues and have NO real fix for it. It has to be an SW problem. When I first started using my G2x, there were no touchscreen problems like there are now. Guess I'm gonna have to change my signature on the G2x away from "so far no issues".

Damn LG and T-Mobile really screwed the pooch with these phones. =(

I've noticed that the edge of the screen is very very sensitive. I'm constantly opening droidtv when the app drawer is open. It's right at the bottom left. My fat fingers overlap the edge enough to open it. Makes me laigh.
Also, I've set launcher pro to scroll the apps up and around like it is in the stock drawer. It cracks me up how it is so sensitive that you can open the app while the icon is scrolled up and around the corner. Even when it's two rows back and especially out of the way. Try it.
I know you said you weren't touching the phone, but maybe some of these times were when you were just holding it?
Yeah, when I'm holding the phone, the bottom of my palm near my thumb is close to the edge of the screen, and it registers as if I were pressing on the screen with my other fingers.
The screen jumping around randomly, I can't explain it. And it does happen when I'm not even touching it. I would put the phone down and watch it go, entering menus and apps and pressing all kinds of things. On one of the forums I linked, someone said to remove the battery and let it sit for a few seconds, then put it back in. So I've tried that, and so far the touchscreen isn't acting possessed anymore. This isn't a constant thing. It's just happening at random times on my phone, it's leaving me confused lol.
I've just began to run into this issue. It most apparent when using the keyboard, and switching keyboards doesn't even seem to help.
CM7 fixed the calibration and touchscreen issues long long long ago.

[Q] Glitches w/keyboard, screen, camera app, crashes - nonstop !

Hey everyone, I'm a fairly new OPO user myself here as well; I received mine back in early-mid October, and have had it since then.
But oddly enough, for the past two weeks or so, the following issues have surfaced and has become more frequent, and prominent than ever. For all the fellow OPO-users out there, I was wondering if anyone else has come across the same issue(s) that I've been going through... Unfortunately I really haven't had the time to look up any solution methods and whatnot with two young'uns whom are extremely demanding of my presence... All. The. Time.
So I thought that if I compiled my little list here, hopefully some kind soul will reach out to me with answers (or at least, the direction to where I could find those answers) and make my day just -that- much lighter.
Now just to mention the main points : NO, I have NOT rooted my phone, and YES, I DID install the OTA update, and currently my CM version is the 11.0-XNPH38R.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
a) sometimes, my OPO screen will absolutely REFUSE to turn back on, after I've put the phone to sleep. nothing i do can get the screen to turn back on again - unless it decides it finally wants to. (it's got a mind of its own, this thing... and it's just as stubborn as I am. UGH.) i try double-tapping the screen several times (i've turned that feature on) and i try pressing the power/wake button, or holding it down, ... but zilch. this will usually last up to 10~15 minutes. (after 5~10 minutes of trying to bring it back to life, I just give up and let it be.) when the screen DOES end up turning back on, it's either flashing the "power off/reboot/accessibility" menu several times (probably from me trying to mess with the physical power/wake button) then finally respond to my 'backspace' on-screen keys, or the home icon, returning me back to the proper lockscreen it's supposed to show. ANOTHER way it ends up FINALLY responding, is that the phone will vibrate in short sequences of two, maybe three times and then it will initiate the rebooting process. then everything starts working fine again. i don't recall having ever done anything to trigger something like this to happen, either...
b) the keyboard (the stock Android keyboard) randomly will NOT work; by that I mean, when I am in a messaging app, or any other app that requires a person to TYPE WORDS ON, the keyboard DOES show up, (along with the suggestive bar just above it) and when I try to type, all the usual things will occur; the letter I happen to press will pop-up in response to my tap, and in the suggestive word bar above, it will start showing me the possible word combinations possible based on the sequence of the letters I type, but nowhere do I actually SEE on the SCREEN/message bar/etc. any letters or characters popping up. this issue too, will happen out of nowhere and will last about 15~20 minutes as well. usually what fixes the problem (as annoying as it is) is if I shut down/turn on, then reboot the phone a couple of times to get the keyboard to actually start working again. but there MUST be an easier method to fix this (and all my other issues) !
c) the stock camera app; this issue actually started occurring within days - just under a week of actually getting the shipment of the phone to my place. I was testing out the camera functions, the usual, then suddenly, I would get booted out of the app, and a message saying "The Camera cannot be used at this time" will pop-up as a result. (although, what was even STRANGER, was for a while, (for about 2-3 days) I was receiving a totally different message that didn't even make any SENSE: it said something along the lines of "the camera could not be connected to the device at this time" or "the camera has been disconnected from the device"... i don't even know HOW a camera can "disconnect" itself from the phone, but apparently it CAN.) with this issue, there was absolutely NOTHING I could do to start making it work again. it was non-functional for three, four days straight (no word of a lie) then just for the hell of it, I decided to open the camera app again, and boom, it was working. that didn't last long, though... then suddenly after opening the camera, there would be a prolonged black screen on the phone that wouldn't go away, and I couldn't select any options whatsoever... then when the camera finally started "working", i tried taking a picture - i thought that it would work, since nothing was indicative of it NOT working... but alas, such was not the case. when i went into gallery, to browse through the photos I had taken, they were not there at all, and the photos i had thought were taken weren't actually taken at all.
Asides from that, and some occasional (frequent) crashes while using the phone, I'm not feeling too frustrated by it. (I guess I just have an effin'-load of patience.) Still, I would greatly appreciate any thoughts or suggestions about this dilemma of mine, or providing me the key to all of the answers to these stupid bugs.
Thanks for all those who took the time to read my lengthy post. :fingers-crossed:
"touchless" touch screens
I have tried looking this up on the internet and no matter how I word it I cannot find anything on it. It keeps trying to send me to "air gestures" over your telephone to do certain things like turn off the ringer or send a reply to texts telling them that you will get back to them later or whatever ...
What I am talking about is my finger being .5 to 1 inch away from the touch screen, hovering over a letter on the key board or a link button and it activates whatever I have decided to touch WITHOUT me touching the screen.
I would chalk it up to software/hardware glitches IF it happened to randomly activate a "touch sector" on the screen, but every time it does it chooses EXACTLY the spot I intended to touch AND almost exactly when I decide.... almost instantaneous as if it were a synaptic response. And its not just once or twice each time, it does it dozens of times when it does it happen.
It started with my very first cellphone. A galaxy avant I got from walmart and continues up to this day with my S7.
Am I the only one experiencing this, because it happening more and more and its kinda freaking me out a little. . . Anybody?
(IT JUST DID IT AGAIN AT THE I AM NOT A ROBOT VERIFICATION WINDOW... this really is starting to bug me.)
Its startling and very un-nerving to decide where you are going to touch the screen and glance down and see the area highlighted or activated. It does it faster than I can actually physically move my finger.
I know that its a scientifically proven phenomenon but I am not sure if this may be a factor here or not but my grandfather was one of those people who would make a wrist watch run slow or stop.
Could what I am experiencing be due to some sort of bio current?
