xda Vs eten - General Topics

hi
what are the differences beetween these phone\pda ? i read that have the same hw, but i can use all software for xda with eten? also for win updates ?

No, they do not have the same hardware, and they do not have the same ROM/windows updates.
It is pocketpc based though, so you can use many of the same applications (such as games etc.) but not xda-specific applications.
Here are the P700 specs
http://asia.cnet.com/reviews/handhelds/0,39001705,39019820p,00.htm
Here are the P300 specs
http://www.windowsfordevices.com/articles/AT5796498270.html
Here are the Himalaya/XDA2 specs
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/wiki/HimalayaFAQ
The P300 has a 400Mhz cpu, but no camera and only 64MB RAM. The P700 is the slower device (200Mhz/32MB RAM), but does have a camera.
If you own an eten, this forum will be no more useful to you than any other pocketpc forum. However, the thing is pretty cheap.

pda buyer's guide review of the eTen P300B

uh.. wfberg i think you got the specs the wrong way round.
the p300 has the 200mhz cpu and the p700 has the 400 mhz.
just incase you didnt notice ;-)

BEWARE! I was the owner of the Eten P603 - which was bought through a German distributor of the Taiwanese manufacturer (their attempt to capture the European market) about 7 months ago. It has since been discontinued and was not nor is not supported by either the manufacturer NOR the original distributor due to the fact that Taiwan would never return their queries for assistance either for hardware or software.
I had bad experiences with the device, the distributor and NO assistance what-so-ever from EtenCorp in Taiwan either... an all around bad experience.
I now have since purchased the Qtek 2020 and am very pleased because of their community and constant updates, if there is a problem there is a solution... not the same with Eten.

HTC Atom - We're not alone ..... WM5 for Magician

Magician's new born bother in November, our solid new hope for WM5.
http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/index.php?action=expand,43089

Even though it looks so very similar to our Magician, they are not related. This is a copy made by another manufacturer, so I doubt they share the same hardware. Different hardware = different drivers = Atom WM5 no go on the Magician
Plus the Atom has 128 MB ROM, needed for WM5. 64 MB just is too small, considering that WM5 takes 85 MB on the Jasjar

Microsoft claims it will work on 64MB. Something to do with executing in place.

Quanta Atom is actually the HTC Athena.
Look likes we finally got some clarity on this new device. It's by HTC.
Chances of portability are again better, but there may be differences in the camera, audio, and memory configuration that will need to be sorted out if one is to port the ROM image over to the Magician. Hopefully the hacker(s) won't end up bricking their device.
http://msmobiles.com/news.php/4306.html
The HTC Athena (Quanta Atom) is reported to have the following features:
Windows Mobile 5.0
XScale PXA272 at 416MHz
Wi-Fi
Bluetooth
GSM/GPRS/EDGE
FM Radio
2.1MP camera
slimmer dimensions than HTC Magician
I just saw that too. I was finding it kinda weird that another company could get away with a rip off design like that
I agree that this could change things a bit. It looks like the hardware is basically the same as the Magician, so theoretically the ROM could run on the Magician, although of course a few things wouldn't work. But irl the chance of running the ROM from a different phone seems very small...
I read somewhere that the T-Mobile version of the Qtek S110 (128MB) would get WM5 as well.
That one is identical to the magician (except for the memory!)
I still think our best bet for the present would be the Raptor ROM (short of it not existing). A forbidden topic though.
That aside, certainly, if the 128MB Magician gets WM5, one would see no impediment in its function on current Magicians.
kneeslasher said the R-word!
No, seriously I can't see the R-ROM ever happening. It's been 14 days now, so even the most optimistic among us surely can smell a rotten rat by now.
There has been no official word frm HTC about WM5 for any of the present devices, so I think the S110 update is just wishful thinking.
Can't wait for someone to prove me wrong, though

HTC Touch Pro 2 with old Processor?!

Hello,
can anyone explain me, why does the HTC Touch Pro 2 get a older Processor like HTC Touch Pro 1? HTC Touch Pro get a Qualcomm MSM7201A with 65nm (less Battery) and the HTC Touch Pro 2 have a Qualcomm MSM7200A with 90 nm (need more Batterypower), this Processor is over 2 Years old!!! Is there a misstake on the Website of the specification on HTC?
Thanks for your answer.
Well, I understand your annoyance with an old processor, and although I'm definitely getting the TP2 if I can, I would certainly prefer a faster clock speed, maybe 628 mHz or higher. What I don't understand is where you are getting the chip measurements. Are you refering to this spec's page?
Dave
Hi,
yes, your refering spec's website is right. PDADB has auso the same spec. I don't know, why i've got to pay for a new mobilephone with a old processor. :-( I hope this is a misstake on the website.

You don't... You can wait a month or two till the Touch Pro 3 comes out, which will probably have the new Snapdragon 1ghz processor like the Toshiba G01. Seems like htc is releasing new devices every few months or so now, so wait a little while and what you want will be available soon.

I do hope you are wrong, because if you are not I will keep waiting for the next phone to come out and never upgrade my phone until year 2050...
For me it is the same too. I won't even take a glance at any phone with only 624MHz on it. I need something faster. I have an HTC Universal (524MHz), and I think that was slow after loading all my applications. The same goes with my HTC Advantage X7510 (624MHz). An open application runs fine, but you will notice how slow a QUALCOMM processor is upon opening the application.
I really think the combination of HTC and Qualcomm processors are not a good match. I promised myself, I won't buy another HTC device if it has a QUALCOMM processor in it.

wow! this phone looks beautiful. any1 knows the price already?
I dont think they will do any change in next 8-12 months after the release on TP2 which clearly targeted for bussiness user (Email, calls, battery live) Anyhow I do think the next Touch HD will be in the level of Toshiba G01 and targeted mainly on multimedia (games, movies etc.)

It has to be something else thats causing the problem, not just the HTC/Qualcomm combination.
The HTC T-mobile G1 is very responsive and fast and uses the same qualcomm cpu, also the Xperia X1 is using it and I've read it outperforms the Diamond/Touch Pro in multimedia department. HTC developed the X1 aswell.

When you say HTC T-Mobile G1, are you referring to ANDROID OS? That alone is a big difference. Unfortunately, I like Windows Mobile better at the moment for an all around OS with a wide variety of free and 3rd party applications.
With regards to X-Peria, it's made by SONY which specializes on multimedia, so that is no surprise at that department. But looking at Xperia videos, it is still slow, especially at opening and starting applications. I bet it will even be slower upon performing multi-task applications running in the background.
I read at Brighthand that the new HTC THOTH will also have a Qualcomm processor but it would be a 1GHz processor. So I guess, we will see by next year how HTC will use these powerful processors, or maybe they will cripple it in some way. They always find something to screw-up. So I guess we will have to wait.

I really thought HTC made the xperia for SONY.
Anyway my point was that the xperia is using the same qualcomm cpu like the diamond/pro for example and the xperia outperforms them both in multimedia performance. And if I'm wrong about the xperia made by HTC then ok you are right.

No you are right, maybe I should had made it clear, the XPeria is made by HTC, but Sony definitely has something to do with it's multimedia capabilities. Sony would not just let HTC make something and not have any control over it.

Hey, the Touch Pro uses a cdma msm7501a cpu which was made last year.
The Touch Pro 2 uses a msm7600 cdma cpu from 2007.
The TP uses a newer cpu than the atp2.

MWG Atom V is good handset?

Hello,
in x-mas eve we having some deals on mobiles. I am getting MWG Atom V mobile in 200 US$. But want to know if it's a worth deal as it has only 64 MB ram. It has 500 MHz Intel xscale processor. I found this handset better against hTc Viva which currently I have. Looking for opinion from you people.
Regards,
Amey.
I wouldn´t buy it
Rather go to marketplace section and for $200 you can find an HTC Rapahel or something similar
Just my opinion.

Just checked hTc Touch Pro brand new GSM handset here is for 700 US$
Over expensive. I found mwg atom v loaded with features thus thought to give a try. My current handset i.e. hTc Viva has absolutely no features. I am bored using it. MWG atom has radio in it for listening live music & much more.
Other htc diamond etc are like for 390 US$ in India. ~sigh~

[Q] Chinese quad-core tablets lack bluetooth -- why?

Hello everyone!
Why so many chinese tablets lack bluetooth support? I browsed so much on various chinese popular sites, and almost not the single one has BT built it. Can you please point out to some models in economy class (around $200) that have it? (10″ IPS, dual-core A9, 2GB RAM… and BT). I’d like to use my BT headphones and BT keyboards with it. Thanks!
More and more chinese tablets support BT over the last weeks and months, but might be a liitle more expensive
Look for Cube U30GT2, PIPO, YUANDAO/VIDO N90FHDRK
Looking at those, thanks! Which Chinese maker (brand) has good XDA support, popular in the community?

Issues
1. my earlier post:""1.it used to crash almost 3-4 times and was hoping next firmware update will solve this but even after updating 16-Dec update it still has the problem. Now i tried another fix that I have fully charged it and then cleared the battery stats from root tools app from Google play.I can see great improvement in battery draining and so far there is none switch off issue, but I will update about it later.
2. This tab has got Huawei ultra stick 3g mobile broadband. I am experiencing signal problem most of the time. And if I turn off the screen there is no cellular service after that until I reboot. Solved in 25 Dec update.
3. Most important thing. When I bought this piece it used to produce static noise (heard clearly in speakers)very much while charging/not charging, screen flicker and used to get crash. I though it was due to poor quality control of Chinese mfr and so disassembled whole tab again assembled it and re rooted speakers wires as they were very close to battery wires..after all this binary I don't get now the said problems.
In the end I pay my respects to all especially cracktech and datagr for helping out all members. I hope you ppl will help solving the problems of this device as its a very good hardware just need right software.

Firmware updates
The above firmware especially between #2 and #3 are not the same the #2 is dated 25-Dec and the #3 is dated 24_Dec, I dont know the changes maybe the issues from the 24-Dec are quickly caught by the factory.

After talking to support centre the rom which i received was good in a way that cellular service improved. But DPI was set to 239 and everything was out of shape i could not even run swiftkey keyboard. Crashing issue is still there i ran Antutu benchmarking i got random results like 24222 and 134444 and rom was still crashing but only in games in my experience unlike before when it used to give random crashes..i have now reflashed with userdata.img and system.img files of 24 dec and rest all files from 16 Dec, I got back again to good DPI but i think i might have signal problem with screen off. i will get back when after observing it.
cracktech do anywhere in rom after installation we can see changelog as i could not find. i think before making any of the improvement you are mentioning first we should have a stable rom. Can you ask some senior help in this regard?

Hello everyone. I'm shopping for a new tablet, and I see you guys have something going with this. I just wanted to see would it be worth buying this tablet? Right now, its this or the Pipo M8 HD. One of many concerns is the battery, especially with the Octa core cpu. It would be nice to be able to see that improve. How many hours at current will the tablet last in standby and causal use? Thank you very much.

First. i apologize for reffering A18 as A16, it was just a silly mistake.Let me second cracktech that this device is really paying its price. Good solid hardware with amazing performance (and cheap).
@cracktech i am sure it will be octa core i was not just sure how to check it. thanks for upload.

by the way 25 Dec update is up on official chinese website too.

Stallionrider we dont need to refer to ourselves as YES SIR/NO SIR just my our handle name (cracktech/stallionrider). and NO need for apologies we all make mistakes and i am not an expert just experienced through using various devices from Android 2.2 to 4.3 and CWM/TWRP ROMs,I am only about 4 years old on Android but I started off at INTEL Corpn using IBM DOS 1.0 to MS DOS and Windows 7 and learning up on Win8 now since 1970's and had seen COMPAQ grow from a US Taiwanese part workshop assembler to what it is(was) right now.
I dont do this Android stuff for money I am on various Forums helping out other people and happy that my suggestions are successful in helping out problems. I am on RK3188 Quad Core Forums, AML DuoCoreForums and now with your port OctaCoreForums.
I maybe thinking of starting an online store regionally to start making some money by selling this devices in 2014 (after 4years!)
Hey I am glad that you manage to root your device with my given solution (VROOT eeehhh!).By the way that is the latest version of VROOT so keep following up on its updates, better to use automated rooting rather than manual rooting (no need to understand the chown/chmod) a lot of hassle any wrong statement in the script you will have to reflash the whole device. But it is needed to understand the different method of Rooting and "push" into the system further modifications.
Excellent.

There are at least 2 Forums supporting this M9Pro and the support is great (eeheem I am on Archtablet Forum M9pro-KASTY ROM) there is another FREAKTAB- RILEY ROM and the pressure we put on the factory is such that they listen to our feedback like, at one time Skype doesnt work, wifi doesnt connect and everry month they keep updating the firmware(reflashing the device every month is tedious) to the point that it is stable now and everybody is happy with it (the users) except that if you happen to come across a manufacturing defect that escaped the QA then you will find yourself returning the good to the seller everything on the firmware front is A-OK now. See my signature dates. The camera is above average (7/10) the sound quality is excellent for a pad. the screen is excellent(although it taxes the graphic processor and may look a bit sluggish).
The firmware from either KASTY or RILEY is pre-rooted you dont have to worry about rooting. The GPS has signal weakness (due to teh metal back cover) but I have prepared for the Forum members a fix that can get GPS fix in under 10seconds or less.
Thats it for the PiPo M9Pro
Hands on Gionee Elife E7
Hi guys. yesterday i got my hands on latest Gionee E7 and immediately i tried for rooting via Vroot as Google play store was not pre installed but to my horror something went wrong and now the device is very lagy and touch is hardly working. Till now Gionee has not uploaded its stock rom so i am stuck, any guidance what went wrong.
@cracktech,
Thanks for the update, I had been watching the M9 Pro as well. I've also, been watching the M8 HD, which seems pretty nice as well. However, if this tablet seem promising with nice battery life, then I may switch

The PiPo M9Pro firmware can be declared as "matured" just waiting for KitKat update only since its siblings has got a KitKat version firmware ready. It might take a while before they decide to port KitKat (or not) to M9Pro but as it stands it is stable with all the issues we raised to factory resolved. The battery life is decent if not spectacular.
The Exynos 5410 devices on the other hand has still got a long way to go before it is excepted as the "King" of Chinese high end pad and adopted by manufacturers (I reckon another 18 months) with its poor battery life is yet to be resolved. (neither TEAMGEE or VOYO) we will have to modify the battery with bigger capacity batteries (need to look around for the dimensions is critical) but I doubt it.
I need to study this device to support potential Forum members and customers..
On the TEAMGee side we lost "Diquan2001" who originally co-founded the thread with me due to lack of support from TEAM GEE factoy and his frustration with the battery life and he sold off his TG Super8. Therefore ending firmware updates support.Hope this does not happen to VOYO factory.
I left Slatedroid because the ZENITHINK brand ended their support into their Engineering Dept. (this is due to them thinking that they had obtained the critical mass volume). That the nature of the Chi****.

For your information on the Ultrastick 3/4G. Yes it is compatible on 900Mhz GSM
It has 8000mAh battery unlike TEAM GEE
Sorry to disappoint, but a previous attempt to develop w w w.htcmanía.com firmware voyo A15, which was cut short by the total lack of support, both Voyo, as Urbetter.
The Voyo A18 is equal ... not release the kernel source (ever they have done) and their clients only have good hardware, they can not be used by a bad firmware.
Only I do not recommend buying products manufactured by urbetter (Voyo A15, Voyo A18 , Tamgee super8) to publish the sources of their kernels (Something that will not do, is that bad in business).
