Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition Out Now ...... - General Topics

Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition Out Now ......
...but only for the Toshiba e800. The download which is free is the Windows Mobile SE release for the e800.
Perhaps that means that there will be a release shortly for the XDA II (and hopefully it will be free).

Yes... we already know that! (see the search function for further reference).
And perhaps (with a big P) it will come for the XDA/XDA II.
But i´d rather guess it will come for XDA III first, and then maybe we will see and upgrade for the older XDA´s.

well windows CE 5 is also comming so i guess it could be the os for xda3
and normal 2003 came out for xda1 when it was much "older" then xda2 is now
of cause if going 2003SE mean that most of the programs we use today will have to be recompiled to be rotate aware then i'm not going to jump that wagon right away

orange WM5 upgrade

A guy from UK who claims to be official "Orange phone trainer" (Orange is a mobile operator in UK) claims that Orange Academy both Microsoft trainer and Orange employees were claiming that ROM upgrade for Orange SPV M500 Pocket PC phone (also for C550 smartphone) is coming.

May I be the first to call "bull****" on this story?
Thank you.
Total bull****.
msmobiles.com also says:
"Conclusions: this news story is too good to be true, but we publish it nonetheless. Please note that by now it has never happened that any HTC made phone (smartphone or Pocket PC phone) was being offered a ROM upgrade to major version (from Windows Mobile 2002 to Windows Mobile 2003 or from Windows Mobile 2003 to Windows Mobile 5.0) although E-Ten is offering upgrade to Windows Mobile 5.0 for their M500 Pocket PC phone. It has never happened by now (for HTC phones) so it is very unlikely that it will happen now. Anyway: HTC Magician is an extremely popular Pocket PC phone and if this news would be confirmed to be true, it would be real revolution for many thousands people."
Chances that it won't happen would be somewhere around 99%. This wm5 madness brings up its own fairy-tales. That's the way it goes with such things, unfortunately. :?
And I thought people had learned not to trust msmobiles.com's so called "Exclusives" by now!

magician wm2005 coming soon
Hey what so happy about it? I think you misunderstood the statement.
they said, the new MDA Compact II is going to come out. and yes, its already came out, with the model name Charmer or Prophet (i forget )
so, still, no WM2005 for Magician.
Yep:
"This device is UNABLE TO BE UPGRADED to Windows Mobile 5.0".
I still think the producers are being lazy. There's no reason it should not support an Intel PXA272 base, because that's like the most common WM processor around, and its still in use too. Portable RAM, BT and Radio Stack technology hasn't changed a hell lot enough to not even have any driver support.
If this isn't forced obsolescence I don't know what is.
ya lor of course i tink its not because device not supported, but just simply : marketing and commercial issue
maybe they came out with new product and wont allow wm2005 for magician to avoid product cannibalism
I agree with you
it certainly supports wm2005
yes
it is launched with name charmer grey nad pink colour
g3 chipset

New Htc Phones

always connected Windows Vista mobile computer.
HTC PHONE
i think i seen that phone on Easydevices website, called the Advantage, although i think it runs Mobile 5 rather than Vista,
all i know is, ive got mine preordered
http://www.easydevices.co.uk/pp/PDA/HTC/HTC_Advantage_X7500.html
What I dont get is why they are releasing the Advantage with Windows Mobile 5 instead of 6. Easydevices also have the HTC S710 which has Mobile 6.
They should be using Mobile 6.
HTC P9500 (Shangri-La)
I'm not sure who to blame, you guys who didn't notice the title, or insider666 who seems to be .. weird on this introduction with almost nothing to say about it. Anyway if you look at those photos, the unit runs on Windows Vista. Yes, Vista the full PC-class OS, not the strip down mobile Windows Mobile. Also note the Windows key on the keyboard.
Anyway, I'm not sure where did this news come from, but I'm not having luck on google on this. However, both the pics above may have been photoshopped, you never know, until we get a more reliable source
it does look like the HTC advantage, and it does look like its been photoshopped, cause the windows key looks awful bright.
but hey, if it runs vista i'll be impressed but i think it'l be mobile 5 if not 6
here is the rough spec for P9500:
It is a Vista Plus WM 6
7" Screen
40GB HD
VGA for VT
WIFI
HSDAPA,UMTS
GPS
Fingerprint Recognition
Semi-auto Sliding.

What would the point in that be?

Thats the official Advantage page.
I just hope that the T-Mobile version (T-Mobile Ameo) will be upgradable to WM6, otherwise it will be made obsolete within 3 months of hitting the market.
Oh and the second pic just looks like an early mock up of the I-mate Ultimate 7150.
This is not an HTC advantage, please bear in mind.
It will be out in Q4 2007.
Here is another one, HTC P6550 Sedna (Not P6500 Sirius)
3.5" Screen
3.0 Mega pixel autofocus camera,
fingerprint recognition
credit/smart card reder
support GPS and A-GPS.

That doesnt explain why it will use both Vista and WM6, please explain what the point in using Dual OS's would be along with how these will be partitioned.
i doubt very much it will use both
vista is not likely to be compiled for more platforms then x86-32 and 64
and wm6 is arm based
if it's running vista is will have a pc cpu
and if it have that kinda power it would be easier to emulate wm6 then to put in a arm cpu in the device too
My guess: virtualization of WM to operate HSPDA and GSM phone and data services; that way they don't have to write a phone program for Vista (or maybe MS wants it that way).
This is a space HTC can't ignore considering the popularity of the Sony UX models and the growing buzz around the OQO 02 and its WWAN EV-DO.
I expect the reason for 2 OSes on the one device will be
WM6 for low power requirements & day long operation of Push mail as in the manner that current devices can manage.
Vista for the times that a standard PC app is required at the expense of only being able to run for 3 - 5 hours.
The base Windows CE is available for x86 machines but I expect a dual processor setup to support the low power requirements of WM6 compared to Vista.
IMHO, this super dude is a smart-ass. He seems to be photoshopping the images leaked/released by HTC in this PDF doc.
Folks, take a look at this
Does this mean that HTC is slowly venturing in laptop market?

O2 XDA II Mini Windows 6.5 upgrade?

Hello! I have an O2 XDA II Mini phone which originally came with Windows Mobile 2003 OS, and the specs are 64 MB RAM and 416 Mhz CPU. I've recently installed Windows Mobile 6.1 on it and suprisingly it works perfectly. So my question is, does my Pocket PC meet the minimum system requirements to run Windows Mobile 6.5, when knowing the fact that Windows Mobile 6.1 works fast and stable? Thanks!
hmm..as i notice there's no 6.5 for magician, for now..the latest rom to be released by Cotulla is still 6.1..but who knows he will make a 6.5 for us, or even 7
I am running WM6.5 on my Universal with 128/64 specs at 620Mhz and the major concern is available RAM, making the device just barely usable, therefore I would think the 64/64 Magician specs would hinder any 6.5 before we even begin to consider it. The way it is I consider it a bloody blessing to run 6.1. Cotulla is my hero.
I hope WM 6.5 will be release in the HTC Magician ) If it ok !! This will be the good news for us All of my HTC magician User . ( Sry !! My English isn't well ) ) I'm Chinese .
Yea i find it a push to even run 6.1. i have had to can opera and use iris browser. I doubt 6.5 will be much different to 6.1 but i will take updates to flesh out the very few bugs.
when it comes to updating the magician, better not to leap before you can walk
people, feel satisfied plz,Cotulla have no plan for WM6.5,there is no driver from offical,so Cotulla wrote it,he is only one person,he is not god,he have to work,to eat,to sleep.
I think the WM6.5 does not use the convenient WM6.1, but 6.5 to 6.1, however beautiful, I am Chinese too ~嘿嘿
Im fine with 6.1 ROM...
Guys check this out.. Somebody released a 6.5 for JAMA
Let's us hope and wait.. maybe some ROM builder will cook for magician also..

hi Nikolov, could you advice me how did you upgrade your O2 mini? I wanted to do the same to mine. Thanks
^^ check out cotulla's 6.1 rom WWE 04 is the latest for 64mb devices
Even if they release WM6.5 for magician I still would retain 6.1 from Cotulla. It would be stretching the specss of the Magician way beyond it was meant to be. I have a Himalaya which I was able to upgrade to 6.5 and although it worked fine, it used up too much memory that only have a few available afterwards. Besides, why do you want the 6.5 for anyway?
Can't wait WM6.5 ROM for my HTC Magician 64MB, I'm wondering when it came out release by Cotulla?
hope soon
if we got rid of intensive today customisers 6.5 might be usable, I hope soon, if only for testing, too cotulla.

After you installed Windows Mobile 6.1 on it... Do you still have the ALBUM for Pocket PC Version 2.51 (Build 18676) originally in the device with Windows Mobile 2003 OS ???

Are there Windows Mobile 6.5 ROMs for the Toshiba TG01

Just wanted ask if there already exists some Windows Mobile 6.5 ROMs für the Toshiba TG01 Phone.
Maybee there is no WM6.5Rom 4 TG01
WM6.5 seems to be a lite Version of WM for slow Devices.
So it seems that the Toshiba seem 2 make a WM7 Rom only.
where did you hear about that ????
wm6.5 is just a quick way to give a good lifting to many wimo phones. WM7 is a new os that will be realeased later.
I read on the web that this two os will stand together, but i never heard that toshiba planned to skip the wm6.5 to go straigt to the wm7 one.
plus the wm7 phones specifications are multitouch with tg01 doesn't have!
The official Windows Mobile 6.5 update for the TG01 will be out on October 6th (when 6.5 launches) and should be available via your service provider / Toshiba.
