Connecting XDA II directly to wired LAN - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 Accessories

Has anyone found a way to connect an XDA II directly to a wired Ethernet LAN? I mean directly, without any desktop PC in between. The reason I ask is that there are Ethernet ports all over the university where I am taking my graduate studies. And it would really be nice if I could plug my XDA II into one of those ports to access the university intranet and the Internet.

All you need is one of the many lan cards thats on the market.
either sd , or if u have the backpack cf

I have a Sitecom LN-029 USB-LAN adapter (for several years already; I believe now they have a LN-030) and it works out of the box on my TF101 with ICS 9.2.1.17.
I wonder why people all over the internet (also on this forum) say an USB-LAN will not work. I tried it and now I am using it out of the box.
I have an Apple USB->Ethernet adapter and it too works flawlessly with ICS... Expensive, but it just works...

Hi,
I have an Asus Tablet TF101g and I must to buy an USB/ethernet adapter. I would know if it is simply to configure the ethernet interface, because, after an update to ICS, I don't find any Ethernet configuration possibility.

The 'Ethernet' setup section will appear in Settings after you connect an ethernet cable via the USB->Ethernet adapter.

I'm using an old Linksys USB 2.0 adapter and it works great! I have been running it for a couple of month (pre and post-ICS) and never experienced an issue!

[Q] USB Ethernet Compatibility?

My workplace doesn't allow wifi, so I need to use Ethernet. My trusty Cisco USB300M that I was using on my Transformer Prime doesn't seem to work. Maybe because of the included microusb adapter?
Anyone try getting Ethernet to work on this tablet? Thanks!
Everything else I've thrown at the OTG adapter seems to work, so maybe it's driver? Too bad.
Guess I'm going to have to look at the Transformer Infinity.

Try this
or the apple one. It worked for most tablets.
from bobjgear's web page
"Samsung and ACER Brand manufacturers have not enabled Android's wired Ethernet support in their Android releases, so these Brand Tablets can not used with any wired internet adapter. "
Although since the a510 and a700 are pretty new, things might of changed. be worth a try if someone had one kicking around, but since your cisco didnt work, i doubt it.
I've been using Foxfi / PDA net combo at my non-wifi work. Not sure if that would work for you.
I've only had flash drives, hard drives, and a mouse and keyboard. Good luck on Ethernet.

Of course you cant. After all, you would wouldn't expect someone to list an accessory in the nexus 4 accessories forum if you can actually use it, would you? Oh wait.......

I have one of these and love it. Especially useful with the modifications that allow full read/write over smb and automatic dropbox synchronization.
There is also this :

It can transform any USB drive into a network drive...
As a side note, any HDD or SSD in your PC can be wireless if you set up a Plex media server. It's easy to set up and all your media is available over your local WiFi. You can access your media remotely too just by forwarding one port on your router.
Was about to pick up the patriot gauntlet but then saw this on sale for the same price. With there Seagate you get a hard drive as well. The ability to use this as a wireless hard drive with internet pass through or as a regular 3.0 USB drive is awesome.

The Seagate goflex satellite only has a 10.36Wh battery and 128MB DDR. The Gauntlet note has a 12.4Wh battery and 64MB SDRAM.

True and thanks for that, but doesn't help if you want a mobile wifi drive (unless you're happy to leave your computer running all the time AND have a decent upload speed)
I got one of the T-Mobile 4g prepaid hotspots on Black Friday. It ended up being $10. The interesting thing is that it has a micro sd card so I'm hoping I can use it as a wireless drive without activating the data.

[Q] Is anybody using OTG connected CDC-ACM driver to get internet?

Hello everybody!
There are some people talking about using external USB dongle on non-3G version of NEXUS-7 or -10 through PPP protocol. but until now, It seems that nobody is talking about using CDC-ACM to connect an old phone to the internet.
I am simply curious of Howto, because according to the experience I got from openwrt platform, old phone like Nokia E series, acting as ACM device under Linux, is even easier to use to get internet occasionally. it needs no PPP dialing part. I think a lot of people still keep a old Nokia phone(it is not so easy to break them right?), for those Pads without 3G module, I believe using CDC-ACM class driver is quite handy.
I would really appreciate any information you give!

[GUIDE] [POGOPLUG] List of Mods/Specs/Info/etc

This is a thread for general information regarding the modding, hacking, specifications, and general information of the Pogplug devices. The nice thing, is that many of the tutorials from the raspberry pi can also apply to the Pogoplug devices (when midified via SSH using Debian/ArchLinux). I will try to update and edit this post with new information as it becomes available. Here's a few nice links to start:
$20 Cheaper than Pi NAS
Hacking the Pogoplug v4 (Series 4 and Mobile) with Linux (Debian or Arch)
Pogoplug Arch Linux Arm Info
Performance Tuning with Pogoplug v4 on Arch Linux ARM
Pogoplug V4 Disassembly and Attaching Serial Cable
PogoPlug Series 4 (ArchLinux) review
How to Turn a Raspberry Pi into a Low-Power Network Storage Device - This guide also applies to the Pogoplug, but I found that I had to install cron to use rsync (as of 10/14/2014).
Please feel free to leave other links below as well, or any suggestions. More info will be added soon.

Pogoplug free account ends June 15, 2015
Hi,
My apologies if this was posted to the wrong section of the forum. Mods, pls move as appropriate...
On May 15, 2015 ; I received an email from Pogoplug indicating an end to the Free services.
I have 2 devices that is bundled with some free Pogoplug cloud storage:
1. The Pogoplug server device
2. Seagate FreeAgent Dockstar
What can I possibly do to hack these 2 devices so that I can un-chain myself from Pogoplug?
Pogoplug email May 15, 2015:
As of June 15, 2015, Pogoplug will no longer support free accounts. To make this process as seamless as possible, we’re offering our best deals ever to ensure that all of our users have unlimited storage and automatic backup for every device.
Upgrade to our unlimited service for as little as $1.92/month—a savings of 54%! Our plans are now just $29 for one year, $49 for two years or $69 for three years.

I bought a pogo plug device on clearance at Walmart for $10 and I hope I didn't throw away $10. I assumed I would be able to at least be able to make it a wifi sharing device on my network but don't see how right now.
I received same email. Spoke to pogoplug and they said your store bought pogoplug device will still work for free as long as you're using your hard drive and not their cloud service. That is no longer free of course.
what pogoplug boards have mini pcie and more
I hope to look at all the boards to see what one wil fit my application.
There is not much documentation and what exist behind the plastic case.
It looks like the pro model has mini pcie for wifi and a sata for internal hard drive.

The USB2 version of the V4 must have a free mini pcie bus onboard because it uses the same board as the USB3 version, and the USB3 is connected to pcie. And you can enable the sata bus on it with 4 caps.

Wish that was true. You have to log into their servers to access your own hard drive and haven't found a way to do it for free.

Well with my devices being down and unable to connect for over a week I'm guessing what's left of PogoPlug is finally dead. I'll go back to the original post and start reading links/hacks. All I need it for is to act as a NAS for some USB HDD on my home network. I'd even be ok if that's it and no external remote access. Hopefully something will work.

If you bought one , don't connect it to the internet when u turn it on, it will disable SSH and you will not get access to it
I am currently working on some old hacks found on web and will post my progress soon
Some of them have been posted in the pogoplug searches.
I have ordered a USB to serial port adapter to connect to the pins inside to get access via a terminal window.
I am also building a USB boot thumb drive install of Linux via some of the methods .
All the pogoplug website responses are automated, and my device won't connect via their web page interface.
Router shows packets sent via port 80 and 2 others.
Not a good idea having a company access your hardware on your internet network.
This device is a nice little 4 core 1 gb ram system on a chip. With lots of features.
Pogoplug.com/opensource has all the software sources.
And there is a Debian port hard to find on a couple web pages.
One of my links on my device is here
The Seagate device is essentially a branded pogoplug
