I am thinkink of taking apart this little piece with mic and two buttons on it and replace headphones with Sony fontopia. I really don't want to break anything. XDA DEVELOPERS! please, help!
why not just cut the wire right over the mic with buttons and put a female 3.5mm jack then you can plug in a normal headset there ?
Ok, I did. Now I can listen good quality music and not missing any calls. BTW, I love the way XDA2 handles calls, music stops when call comes in and continues right after done
does that on xda 1 too when you got ppc2003 on it
Can it be used in XDA I?

Hey all. I'm trying to do this at the moment. I soldered a 3.5mm female extension lead to the headphone socket but i've got a problem. I only have sound coming out of the left headphone.
I know it's not the hima because i opened mine and resoldered the audio jack just to be sure. When using a 2.5mm>3.5mm converter, sound plays perfectly, but when i'm using my modded handsfree kit, i only have sound on the left.
Can someone post some pics on how to properly solder a 3.5mm female extension lead to the handsfree kit mic portion?
Take a look at this

Hanmin, I love you.
On another note, i found this wiki page in the above mentioned thread that details this procedure. I rewrote it for readability (and NxJay-ness) but it's pretty darn useful.
Hi
I got a sound problem with my new ASUS P535, in which the phone is all the time thinking that i'm using the headset even when its unplugged, so no sound can be heard even the headset is unplugged only when somebody calls there is the ring tone, but nor the mike or the phone speaker are working
Any ideas?!?
P.S. I'm using WM6, & I already tried to flash it many times for no results!

Hi,
I had the same problem with my p535, but I found the way to fix it. The problem is that the micro switch was jammed in the headset-port, so to fix the problem; you should just hit hardly the bottom of the PDA onto a table or other hard surface. There is no problem with the software.

I have tried this solution but it didn't work.
Are you sure this is the only way to fix this problem.
Also when i use the device with the headset, the sound of the MP3's are like you listen something under water. And during a call, the opponent's voice sounds so deep, i can hardly hear it.
Than you have a bit bigger problem, the hole port is ****ed, maybe one of the connection is broken or the hole port is moved from where it should be. It just happening with mp3 or with phone as well? if the phone is not working as well with the headset, than you have to bring to service, 'couse the port is broken, if just the mp3 not workin' than I don't have a clue.

It worked for me! Thanks a lot!
I thought my PDA speaker was crapped someway..
Anyway, I did not hit it, just plugging in and out the mini jack connector several times within a short time.

Sound problem again (mini jack connector replacement)
Hello again!
My P535 made a long way since the prevoius sound problem.
My device's mini jack connector has been damaged, and I wish to replace it with a new one.
Could anyone help me how to replace the mini jack connector? Unfortunatelly the oroginal connector was so badly damaged that it cannot be used anymore.
My device cannot play sound and cannot record any voice, but the speaker and microphone is fully intact though. I have to repair it but I don't know what type of mini jack connector I need. I heared that if I use some incompatible connector that could damage the device for good.
I'd also find out that two wire must contact to allow the internal speaker and mike to function, for now, the device "thinks" a jack cable is plugged.
Sorry for my bad english..
Could anyone help?
Regards,
Xel
well, I have a bluetooth ad2p stereo headset (platrinocs), but the akkumulator got busted so I'm in a hurry to repair my phone's analog mini jack output, that will will solve the speaker and mike problem too.
/hovewer, the wireless bluetooth headsets has a serious disadvantage
It cannot connect automaticly to the bluetooth headset when a phone call is incoming, or when you enter proximity whith the headset or with the device (if you left either on desk). i've tried patches and apps to make autoconnect available, but no luck.. analog output is much more advance then bluetooth high quality audio for one reason the hardware eq and software mixers/
the main problem, is that the old mini jack output is damaged to dust, i cannot recognize it which type to replace. googling the specs of the device did not helped me identifying the mini jack connector. I've learned that there are many types, some of them are used to headset functions different at model types, even differs at manufacturers.
Please, anyone could help I would greatly appriciate it!
bye,
Xel

check mini jack output, plug in and move a bit carefully the mini jack cable in output.
probably some air duster or contact spray could help too.

thnx a lot... u r great! it works! u r my hero...
hello everyone,
I hava a t-mobile MDA compact iv (htc touch diamond) and listen to music through my earbuds often. Now i developed a deafness in one ear due to a benign tumor near my hearing nerve. Therefore when i listen to stereo music i can only use one earbud and thus miss out on one channel.
I cannot use a simple adapter jack-plug because my phone doesn't have a normal jack.
So here's my question. Is it possible to write a simple app that will combine both channels to a mono signal, so i can hear both in one ear?
I think more people would like it because they often only use one earbud to keep one ear free. I used to do that at work before i turned deaf on my right side.

these are the droids you are looking for
Thanks Rudegar,
Maybe i wasn't quit clear on this, my phone (like htc touch diamond) does not have a 3.5mm jack. It only has a mini-usb and needs the original headphones with a mini-usb connector. So thanks for the effort but these cables or adapters just won't help.
What i could do is use one adapter to go from mini-usb to 3.5mm jack, and then use another adapter (like the ones you just showed) to convert it to mono. But then i would either extend my phone by at least 2 inches or my cable would become a lot longer. That is a solution of course but not very practical. I have looked into these options and in my opinion an app like i asked about would be the most practical solution. So, if anyone can help. please...
it don't have a pure miniUSB converter it have extUSB
which is usb pins plus normal audio pins all extUsb -> 3.5mm converters work

Thanks again Rudegar, but i'd rather have a small app to do the trick. I think it must be possible, just don't know how. So if anybody can help.

Not sure of any specific PPC application to do what you want but instead of say having an adapter you could just batch recode your music to mono before transfer to phone many freeware apps on the market to do this.
Coreplayer allows you to play your music in mono. Go to Tools\Settings\Audio and set 'Stereo mode' to 'Mono Join'
thanx, i'll try that.
Hello guys,
My microphone in my sensation XE is not working because the mic port's pins on the motherboard are broken. (long story..). So replacing the microphone will not help, I would need to replace the entire motherboard or to solder tiny tiny pins which I definitely can't do.
However, plugging headset with microphone do the trick, and i'm able to input voice to the phone and talk to people.
My question is, How can I make the phone read only the microphone from the headset. I want to shorten some crappy headset and leave the mic plugged in while I fix it to the back case.
Thank you

So you want to make the headset mic as the default one?
Thats definitely not easy. Maybe possible with an xposed module?? But this doesnt exist so far.

And how about the headset's banana? it have 3 lines of touch point, maybe I can tape all except the mic's touch point?
Or something with build.prop?

Hallo,
I got my new MTCD head unit. Its this one:
http://www.erisinwholesale.com/special-car-dvd/audi/erisin-es3078a-7-android-51-car-dvd-gps-dab-for-audi-a4-497.html
I have dont done much testing yet, but i want to connect my external mic first.
The HU is delivered with an small additional harness that included a external mic and a 4-pin connector on the other end. (see attached photo - connector E)
I want to cut this harness and solder a standard mic-jack onto it.
(and then desolder the internal mic)
Does anyone know the pin-out of this 4-Pin connector?!
I guess this is standard on many of the newer MTCD units?!
check with ohmeter the ohm value between gnd and signal and use similar specs mic.
Dear OP, Im very interested in you project. I have nearly the same unit but for A3. I also wanted to wait with the mic until i come up with a better solution than using the one which came with it. Do you know how to disable the standard handsfree function of the car? Now the "Mode" button always messes with the Mode of the headunit. Where is the cars' mic plugged into? How can I access this spot?
in some (i think it was russian) forum i came across the ROM wich connects via Bluetooth to the standard handsfree of the car before calling. But with the standard Rom so far i was not able to conect to it.
PS: Does your unit snap into the DIN booth like the original radio? Mine does not snap in and therefore is kinda loose
i am not sure how to measure the correct ohm value of a mic.
If i connect my multimeter to the factory ext. mic, i see 1,325 kOhm
If i connect it to my parrot mic, i see 1,660kOhm (i have attached a photo of this mic)
But anyhow, i am more interessted in the 4-pin plug, this head unit uses for the ext. mic. hook up.
As you can see on the attached photos, the lower two pins are jumpered.
And the upper two pins go to the mic.
I also found, that one of those two lower pins is a 5V supply on the head unit.
So this harness of the factory external mic seems to have some sort of switch function also...
But i am not sure, what it does...
And to answer Mighty_X´s questions:
I have no "mode" button on my head unit. Not sure, what you mean.?!
On my older MTCB unit, i just cutted the wires to the internal mic, and connected my parrot mic to the ext. mic connection.
But here, on this new Erisin MTCD, all connectors at the back of the unit are different...
regarding accuracy of fit:
The head unit didn´t fit in perfectly. Its a little bit wider at the bottom, than the original radio. If you carefully push a little harder you get it into a very good position. The cars dashboard is flexible enough for that. But thats not really a problem and its definitely not loose.

Thanks for your answer. I was refering to the Mode Button on the steering wheel.
Ahh, OK sorry
I only have the standard steering wheel without any buttons, so i can't comment on this
dont worry about 4pin conn, just check that the mic you want to use in head unit support that ohm input, otherwise the sound quality wont be good, just make "test-fail" until you get good result. just connect to 2 wires mic the mic you want to test...
But i do worry about this 4-Pin connector
If you connect the original ext.mic, the lower 2 pins are jumpered.
What internal effect would this have?
Is it just an input, that an ext. mic is connected?!
But why? Would the singals of the mic wont work without this input?
Or will this input maybe disable the internal mic?!
Then we wouldnt need to do the mod, by desolder or cut the internal mic on such units.
Thats just my thoughts, but i haven't done testing yet. Also i am not sure how i could figure it out exactly...

Well, on my unit (Erisin 3047A) the ONLY reason why the lower 2 pins are "jumpered" is purely a mechanical issue: By having 4 wires and tied them together using a cable tie the two upper (small) cables are fixed in place. So: No actual use, just for mechanical reasons.
Did you have a cable tie on your 4 wires? From your pictures I cannot see it, perhaps you removed it?
Well, I just used my external micro from the installation before, and it works great.
Kind regards,
hardcoded74
Hi,
Ok, there were no reasons for my concerns.
I unsoldered the interal mic.
And then i soldered a headphone jack to the two wires of the original ext. mic harness.
The didnt touch the lower jumper wire.
And now:
It works great with my parrot mic! No echo, and really good quality in general! I am very happy now.
I also now installed a time-delay-relay for my rear view cam. Now the cam keeps going for apprx. 8 seconds, if i change to forward gears. Thats a great improvement also, that i can recommend
Pic of the modified harness
please poiint out, what headphone you used for this and the cables (by color) you connected to. (red to white for example)
thanks
Hello,
I use a PR2627 Parrot Twin Mic.
I cutted the standard ext mic and soldered a 2,5mm female jack instead of it. The white lead from the original cable goes to the "left" connection on the jack.
So the tip of the male 2,5mm pin will contact the white cable.
The black lead goes to the ground connection of the jack.
Thats it.
So, i use this Stereo mic only as a mono mic.
But it works great.
But i have to say also the original ext. mic. isnt that bad, if you disconnect the internal one.
I want to try to use the original Audi microphone. The ohmmeter says the Audi is 7,9kOhm and the mic wich came with the Erisin is 0.9kOhm. Is it possible to get good results here? What do you guys think?
I ll have to search were the wire goes wich is not to easy in Audi A3 (at least for me)
Edit: Like I thought the quality of the original mic used with the new head unit is pretty poor. dumb and very quiet. Not sure now if i get another mic, use the erisin one or maybe try a mic amplifier..
So if I understand this correct, the headunit keeps using the signal from the internal mic, even if there is an external mic connected? In essence, it gets mixed? No wonder everybody on the other end of the line is complaining that they don't understand a word I'm saying.
Is it easy to unsolder the internal mic?

You couldnt find the answer in the entire thread devoted to this issue Yes; if an an external mic input is factory, it is in parallel with the internal mic. This is a rookie design mistake.
Is there a way to change sensitivity of the external mic input? Did not find an option in the factory settings..
I unsoldered the internal mic now too. After first tests I can say say that doing that had no effect on the input sound quality or anything at all. And i found out that the internal and external mic wich came with it arethe same piece of hardware. I still wonder if there is a way to increase intensity of the mic without going over hardware amplifier. Have a kinda newer Ersisin model I guess
