Hi everyone,
does anyone have any recommendation on a good insurance company to have an XDA2 insured?
I have been paying £4.99 a month for insurance on an XDA (Sheraton insurance), but have recenly upgraded to an XDA2, which I now want to get insured. Should I just cancel my current insurer & go with O2 as they offer the same price per month? They even have a "Silver" insurance which is 3.75 a month.
Its just that I've heard some people having problems with O2's "service". Any other ideas?
Many thanks for any help
<Bump> Anyone?

If O2 or CPW (Car phone warehouse) Offer these new XDA's that are meant to be coming out on a Free upgrade I'll be happy but if they don't I'll be really pissed i've only recently shelved out alot of dosh for my current XDA and to know that its about to be 'Superseeded' Is something I'm not happy about! I allready have a £500 bill I carnt pay for just one months worth of GPRS Charges! That's Anouther thing when will Mobile companys come up with bargain bucket deals like NTL do on broadband? Lets say £30 p/m for unlimited GPRS Usage! now that'll give my xda something to do! and make my battery work harder! Grrrr  o2 are Bastards! Who agrees?
Tmo in the states offers a $99 plan that has 1500 minutes, unlimited meg on GPRS, unlimited txt messaging and unlimited hotspot (wifi) usage.
PUSH E-MAIL??
For the $79 plan you really get the hookup, too. Just no included nights & weekends, for $5 extra u can get unlimited nights though.
Sweet deal, if you use the hotspots at all (I take my laptop to starbucks once in a while).
The only question is, how can we get the quasi-push e-mail for the XDA I? Works with the IPAQ, sends "silent" text to the phone to alert it to download messages. Sweet!! But isn't working on my old XDA.

Mate, If I was you, I'd sell my new XDA on Ebay. If it's as new as you say, you can get at least £200 (the price you bought it for) and then use that to buy a new one when they come out in November.
I don't know if it'll be a free upgrade. I was gonna get an XDA II on contract last week and then found out about XDA IIi, IIs and MDA Compact.
I'll wait for the MDA Compact.

I rang O2 yesterday to see about posssibly upgrading my XDAII and getting the XDAIIi but the sales operative I spoke to was less than helpful.
"we don't do that phone" was the reply.
I stated that it's on their website and that billboards all over London show it in all it's glory. He then went off to ask his manager and after a long wait, he returned and said they should have it next week!!!
What a shambles, to advertise something then not even allowing you to order it.
Is there anywhere else in UK I can order it from? Or is it just "scotch mist".
Has anybody else been luckier than me?
I am a O2 select customer (due to the amount i spend each month) (over £50 p/m automaticaly makes you a select customer) and this gets you slightley better upgrade prices. But to get my XDA2i i did the same as i did last year to get the XDA2.
I got our local o2 store to call me as soon as they had a 2i in stock, i then go to the shop and pay what ever they charge, and then a month later or when ever "select" get them in they credit my account with the differance between what i paid in a shop to what they would have sold it for.
they probley do this because they have no answer as to why cant i a select customer have a phone, but jo bogs off the street can get one in most of the o2 shops.
I went into a London O2 shop (Cheapside) on 31 Jan, and they upgraded my XDA II to a IIi on the spot. They had only received the IIi that morning, apparently. Was charged £175 (which I will significantly reduce by selling on the original device). I've been on a £25pm contract since November 03.
Good luck
Tim
It seems I may be in luck... Oxford street are holding one for me and I'm off there this afternoon to do the deed.
It's £179 so that's not too sad...
wooooohoooo!!!

I phoned up O2 UK shop, held for 20 mins, and they said they don't have any - probably not for a month or two (even though it appears you can order new ones on-line - but I wanted an upgrade which you don't appear to be able todo without phoning them.
I then phoned the two big O2 shops in Manchester and they said they don't have any either or a delivery date
I'm stuck - seems like London gets the new stuff first.
Russ
i hope they will release this thing in germany soon
i cant wait any longer
XDA IIi
I phoned O2 on Wedensday 2nd Feb and received my XDAIIi on Thursday 3rd Feb withouth a hitch. My contract is a pay up front yearly 200 mins per month peak for £150ish.
Suggest you speak to another member of staff.
Hi Folks , I agree with daash's opinion, speak to someone else
I rang O2 in the UK as I was thinking of cancelling my contract and check out the deal they offered me
XDA 2i for £100, should be £199
They will also take £10 a month off my existing £25 a month tariff and give me the Gold Insurance for £5 a month
So all I pay is for the phone is £100 and tarif & insurance is only £20 a month
The number I called was 0870 2410202, option 4 (Retentions)
Get them before they change their minds
PS Anyone want to buy an XDA2, WM 2003, Unlocked, boxed with all accessories incl PDA software and Tom Tom Navigator 3
PM me with any offers
Thanks
On monday I left me xda II in a taxi :'(
No luck in getting back but rung up o2 to cancle and get a new simcard whch have now got. They said I couldnt upgrade until june which is for a year .. they offered me £160 for xda IIi, but said they couldnt do anything until June.
Perhaps it depends on who you speak to, I dont know what commision they get for selling there phones, perhaps the phone is a price, then a top price which includes their commision, they can knock off their commisison depending on their mood?
I got a s**t motorola MX200 tempory replacement which at least connects to me pc, but not half as good as wm 2003.. Wouldnt mind getting an update for smartphone 2002.. loads of stuff it lacks in.
Does anybody know a less expensive way to get an Orbit 2 in Germany?
eBay-Anbieter
If you just throw away the sim-card and do not forget to cancel the contract it will cost you 189€+240€(24x10€ for the Genion S)=429€.
get TC from O2 online shop
And how about O2 online shop? I am newbie in this, but it seems that you can get a phone for 99,99 Euros. Yes, it is said about a contract, but it seems that they will delivery the phone itself for this price. I am writing "it seems", because I have never tired this. Maybe someone did?
And I suppose that you will need to make SIM unlock to use such phone.
fralik,
seems that o2 xda orbit II is not sim locked.

only operator thats signed up so far is o2, and theirs is unlocked as well"
contract or not contract
Yes, we can buy orbit II from O2 online shop without a contract for 500 Euros.
But my question is - can we purchase it WITH contract (pay 99 Euros) and then just do not use our contract? I think that I got an answer by myself - NO =(( Although I didn't go through all purchasing steps, but you need to specify you ID, your address, you bank account info. So, I suggest that after purchasing O2 will charge your bank account regardless of wether you are using phone or not.
I don't think that you would be able to get the handset for 99euro and then not use or cancel the contract. As far as I know, at least with some UK operators u have to pay a penalty, which is the full cost of the monthly line rental until the agreed end of the contract.

Hi,
you can buy the Xda orbit2 from O2 online shop or several other distributers with or without contract. It is not simlocked. The cheapest way is to find the cheapest distributer, that sells the Xda orbit2 with a Genion S with handy contract, if you don´t want to use the contract. You can get it for 99 € with Genion L, but you have to pay the monthly basic fee for this contract (so if you don´t use the included call minutes, it´s not the cheapest way).
Best regards

:-D
The cheapest one I found (includes fees for 24 months) is 380,03€. But they don't like it if you throw away the sim cards and don't use them. They say that these offers won't stay if too much people behave like that.
Straputsky
where could u get that offer from?
Hello!
The cheapest way I found in Germany is the following:
ebay-Verkäufer www_logitel_de
When you use the "Telco Eplus Get75call" it will cost you 14,95*24+9=367,8 when you throw away your card.
If you use your 50 free-minutes (calculate only 10cent per minute) it will cost you 367,8-24*5=247,8 theoreticaly
JueLue
You could get it from obocom.de. It's a package of 2 Sims. One "Kombi Comfort", one "Zuhause Web Data"
Orbit 2: 210€
Anschlussgebühr: 50€
Kombi Comfort: 0€ (for the first 24 months)
Zuhause Web Data: 120€ (24x5€)
Versandkosten: 0€
--------------------------
Gesamt: 380€
(Prices are slightly rounded)
@JueLue
Don't forget do add 8,90€ shipping costs
Hi i have lost my o2 branded phone and have been on the o2 website and they don't sell these any-more.
Any idea how the insurance claim will go, it is through lloyds tsb bank
Thanks
Robert
Already claimed insurance tablet, but do not know if the gadget would do, yet it had to send equipment manual, it would be interesting to analyze the terms of the contract to see the value of the franchise, sometimes it pays off!
I've had the O2 Gold insurance for a number of years now. My old XDA Exec was discontinued when got a cracked screen. I was offered 1 of 4 alternatives from the XDA range, so I picked the XDA Orbit 2.
The terms usually state that you get a replacement or refurbished model if the handset is still currently sold, or an alternative if it is discontinued. My suggestion to you is to push for a current handset from O2's range, something like the HTC HD Mini if you want to stick with WinMo.
Long story short, I'm on a very fixed income.
My current plan is:
$39.99: 500 minutes (flexpay)NO TEXTING!
$10: 200mb 4g web
$5.99: Handset insurance
Sound like around $57 a month right? Wrong!
After fees and taxes my plan comes to $71 and some change.
I'm thinking about canceling my service, but I get good service where I live and this phone is killer.
Can someone help me find a better deal? I'm desperate!!

I had never heard of them till just now.
Is your contract over or able to upgrade? If so, call T-mobile and while at the first rep ask to be transfered to the retention line. Tell them that you are on a budget and have found a cheaper plan(about $15-$20 cheaper) with a different carrier and with the same rates. Tell them "before I completetly terminate my contract, I was wondering if you guys can offer me something better or similar to what i have found."
This is what I did and before I upgraded my 5 line family plan was about $186 after tax, and now I pay about $168 after tax.

Nope. I'm a new customer
Are you a Cuny/Suny student? If you are then you are able to get 12% off/Month.
If your not, then it should still work.
Just tell the rep that your are either a cuny or suny student and notice that you are eligible for a 12% off/month discount. If you're not a student and the rep asks you which college you go to just tell them of a random cuny/suny. If they ask for an ID number or available college email address then just hang up and try another rep.
I am a Cuny student but when I called in they did'nt ask any questions and just applied the discount to my bill starting with the next bill cycle.
