The default area code that always fills itself in when I add a new contact is 425 or 428. In the system properties, I have the area code set to 519 but it makes no difference. Is there another place to change the default area code for the contacts manager on the SX56?
start -> settings -> connections -> advanced -> select location -> use dial patterns
Better LATE then NEVER... the information you were given is WRONG!!!
To set the default Area Code on your device, goto...
Contacts > Tools > Options > Country/Region Settings
...and set your Area Code and Country.
Simple eh? It frustrated the hell out of me too!

All respect to senior members, don't u ppl think that there should be some lock or password or something like that for protecting the "OWNER INFORMATION" contents being edited by somebody other than the actual owner itself.
This actually happened with me, a friend of mine picked mey phone(jokingly) edited the owner information and kept it back.
I was shocked to see his name instead of mine.
I seriously look forward for resolving this **** issue left by microsoft.
I think that there are allready many ways to protect your device with multiple passwords. If you have an auto lock on your device before using it there should be no problem.
If you want to use the phone without accessing the registry I think I've found one weakness already. A user can't edit the owner info, but can use TotalCommander and import a reg.key with new user info. Or simply mess up the owner info by edit the reg.keys containing the current info.
The best way to protect your device is by not to hand over your phone to anyone And use one of the many phone lock apps around.
Just my € 0,02
I second the request for owner info lock, I want it to be there on the Today screen, butit should not be edited by every touch of the screen, the same I would like to have for the clock of the Today screen, every time I take out my phone from my pocket the Owner screen or clock screen are open.
Anyone?
This seems like a valid concern. I too would like to know what steps I can take to protect my user info... But I'm not entirely surprised that security on a Microsoft OS has taken the back seat...
I would like to ask again, is there A way to lock the Owner Info applet, the same as there is an option in some tweaking programs to lock the Clock applet?
Please someone look in to it, (I can't have my Owner Info changed all the time.)
Thanks in advance.
There might be one option to do this. Can't say it works 100% but you can enter your contact details and hide the owner information icon by changing the right settings in the registry.
Don't know the exact registry value but I guess it should work. Someone with a lot of time and knowledge could change the personal information by reversing these steps but it should be sufficient for most paranoia people
I think it would be easy enough to disable the control panel in a handful of different ways, but if you want to prevent access to it from Settings, use your registry editor, go into
HKLM\ControlPanel\Owner
and add a dword value called "Hide" (no speech marks) and set its value to 1.
That hides the panel from settings (after a soft reset).
It may still be accessible from the today plugin, but I don't use that.
If you need to disable the panel entirely, it's possible, but requires more low level hacking.

That's the one I meant Thanks vijay555!

I don't understand how this can help,
#1) This will not block the Today screen plugin from being edited by mistake, (and worst thing is, this changes your user name which is needed for registered applications, I once had it changed just by laying in my pocket, and all app's where unregistered).
#2) If you hide it, and also don't show it on the Today screen, then why do you need it at all?

The owner info plugin is a complete waste of space. The idea of hiding it in the registry hides the owner info icon from the control panel so it can't be accessed. Just make sure your name is right and hide it. You shouldn't ever need to change it, and nobody can see it.
New to WM & HTC for 2 weeks. Hope some one can advice the way.
When I press the key FN+"2', it returns ", instead of "@".
FN+"6" -> "&", instead of "^".
FN+"7" -> ', instead of "&".
FN+"8" -> "(", instead of "*'.
FN+"9" -> ")", instead of "(".
FN+"0" -> nothing, instead of ")".
FN+"-" -> "=", instead of "_".
FN+"+" -> "~", instead of "+".
FN+"L" -> "+", instead of ":".
FN+"," -> ":", instead of '.
FN+"." -> "*", instead of ".
How did it happen? It wasn't like this originally.
Probably, in a process of installing/uninstalling sharewares such as Spb Mobile Shell, Pocket Informant, Pocket Breeze, etc, and most likely Sushi's Diamond TF3D Config might have messed up. Since then, all programs uninstalled. I want to fix to correct assignments of keys before I install "Atok", japanese font just released for WM6.0 and higher in Japan.
Is editing registry the way? Or how can I correct the problem?

Friends at work told me to hard-reset and this solved everything.
If you have this registry below,
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Layouts\e0010411
Change it to "Keyboard Layout"=STRING:"00000409".
It might be 00000411 that you have.
Just Change it to 409, then reset. It will work fine.
And...Localize to JP.
If you can read Japanese, Check it.

It takes only 10min. Easy.
Thanks, keigotestuse2
The links are exactly what I was looking for?
It didn't seem like a complicated steps; installing Japanese input system.
I'll try that on Monday.

Hello guys! I need some voluntary help regarding package names and classes. Those are the ones you see as com.android.launcher, com.android.settings.Settings, etc.
I'm currently working on an app and I just remembered that each phone/ROM/version has different app packages and classes. So if you could find yours on your phone, I need the following:
Dialer/Phone (Android default)
Messaging/SMS (Android default)
Settings & Display Settings
Contacts
Call Logs
I don't know any easier way than to install LauncherPro (home replacement app) and hold down the desktop, tap on Shortcuts > Activities, it will show almost every package/class that's in your phone.
Thank you and have a nice day!
Or where can I find these if ever they are available somewhere?
I'd like to know where to modify the interval settings to under 5-minutes. Currently, my e-mail (IMAP4) is downloaded every 5-minutes, I'd like to change to 1-minutes, but least amount of time allowed is 5.
Was hoping there was a registry settings that can be modified?
Thanks,

Since we're restricted to Internet Explorer, I figured I would try to find some ways to make it a little more tolerable. These are the changes that I've made, and for me its made my Internet Explorer a little faster. Your milage may vary.

Be very careful when editing the registry. If you don't know how to edit the registry, you may not want to attempt those tips.
Now that that's out of the way, here's what I've done:
Diable Automatic Configuration
Internet Options > Connections > LAN Settings. Uncheck all the boxes under Automatic Configuration.
Change Cache Size
Tools > Internet Options > General > Settings > Set space to use to 50
* You may want to increase this depending on your browsing habits. I wouldn't exceed 250mb.
Set Homepage To about:blank
Tools > Internet Options > General > Type about:blank in the homepage address.
* Not having to load a homepage every time you launch IE makes the app launch time lower and decreases the time it takes for IE to become responsive.
Disable Accelerators
Tools > Manage Addons > Acceserators > Disable Everything
Use Tracking Protection
Tools > Manage Addons > Acceserators > Tracking Protection > Get a Tracking Protection List online > in the new window add in a few of the more popular lists.
* This also blocks advertisements, so if its blocking ads on some of your favorite sites (like xda) be sure to donate to those sites.
Increase Connection Limit
Locate the following key in the registry:
* If your browser puts a space in MAXCONNECTIONSPERSERVER make sure you do not enter it when making/editing the key.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings
On the Edit menu, point to New, click DWORD Value, and then add the following registry values:
Value name: MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server
Value data: 10
Base: Decimal
Value Name: MaxConnectionsPerServer
Value data: 10
Base: Decimal
Locate the following key in the registry:
* If your browser puts a space in MAXCONNECTIONSPERSERVER make sure you do not enter it when making/editing the key.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\MAIN\FeatureControl\FEATURE_MAXCONNECTIONSPERSERVER
On the Edit menu, point to New, click DWORD Value, and then add the following registry values:
Value name: iexplore.exe
Value data: 10
Base: Decimal
Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
* If your browser puts a space in MAXCONNECTIONSPERSERVER make sure you do not enter it when making/editing the key.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\MAIN\FeatureControl\FEATURE_MAXCONNECTIONSPER1_0SERVER
On the Edit menu, point to New, click DWORD Value, and then add the following registry values:
Value name: iexplore.exe
Value data: 10
Base: Decimal
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Reboot your device after making these changes so they take effect.

Got any additional tips? Let me know.
Thanks will give this a try :good:

Fantastic guide. Thanks
is there anything to speed up loading of pages when using the back button?
Helps a little, thanks. My Surface is still excessively slow on my bridged connection. Weird because my laptop works fine and it's connected to the same bridged router. No idea whats going on.
I heard that if you use the back button vs swiping the page reload issue is minimized. I understood it to be a bug in IE.

I suggest about:tabs, which makes a nice speed dial page and is also offline for speed.

According to this, this only increases the number of simultaneous file downloads, maybe you should clarify that. The default for IE8 is 6, this should really be enough. Increasing this probably won't improve site loading times.
