O2 online, a bunch of tossers?? - General Topics

Can somebody go to the O2 website and attempt to register. I was on there for ages, it asks for phone number, sends a txt with a verification code, then asks for details, postcode, user name etc, it refused every user name I entered, even if I used the "suggest a user name feature, it even rejected its own suggestions, then it says the code is no longer valid, request another code, enter this code, refuses all user names then says code not valid, then is says "this phone has had its limit of verification codes", which in effect prevents a person ever registering on the site even though I am using O2 payg sim and an O2 xda2, what a bunch of tossers.

They all are...
I'm not familiar with the site you're refering to, but I do know the O2 developer 'community', called SourceO2.
They have a few discussion boards, and the busiest one is the one about XDA. Without exaggeration, it gets about as many messages per month as XDA-developers gets in an hour, and I suspect nobody working at O2 is ever looking at what is posted there. It's basically a stale collection of unanswered questions.
Then again: show me a GSM provider that doesn't suck... Sadly, most modern companies consist of little more than a bunch of badly written ASP scripts, 2 or 3 pages of call-center instructions and a bunch of externally hired PR companies.

I had no problem registering.

Suggestion: Dangerous programs sticky thread.

This is a suggestion / request to the mods as well as an invitation to all site members to contribute any info they have on this.
At the moment there are no real viruses for windows mobile devices, only a few proofs of concept.
But I have encountered a few examples of supposedly normal commercial software that I really wouldn't want installed on my phone.
Example 1:
A while back a small company (who's name I no longer remember) sent a letter to all its customers threatening that the anti-piracy protection on their software will damage your bootloader if a cracked version of one of their apps is discovered on your phone.
Example 2:
It was reported a while back that Agile Messenger sent user names and passwords for all messenger services unencrypted through the net potentially giving anyone access to your accounts.
Example 3:
While reading the EULA for Opera Mini I discovered it sends users phone number and all their browsing data (cookies, history, cache) to the Opera ASA server basically spying on your internet activities.
Unfortunately all the threads dealing with these otherwise nice and useful apps have now moved deep in to site history so any new users or just someone who haven't been on the site for a while is likely to miss them.
My proposal is this:
Create a sticky locked thread, I think the general section would be most appropriate, so anyone visiting the site would be able to see the list of programs he might want to avoid.
Why lock the thread?
As I understand it moderators can still edit locked threads any time they want so there are two reasons to keep it locked from the general public:
1) To keep the list clear and easily readable.
I am sure many people will want to comment on the software even if it is just to say "how dare they do this?", but any comments / questions would be better off in separate threads.
2) To be fair to the software creators.
I think that anyone making a claim against a software should provide some minimum proof. Like the email quoted in example one, comm log dump or screen shots. At the very list confirmation from other users.
This site has a lot of impact on the mobile community and it would be a shame if a wrongfully accused software would suffer due to being publicized as damaging here.

weird text message. helppp

i just bought my tilt, just flashed to dutty v3 room and now i get a weird text every 4 mins. the number is 111145643 and it says wvi1 1.1 1111. is there anyway i can stop that text?
thanks!
Hmm I think you should call your carrier. Unless your phone is somehow sending itself a message, the kaiser probably isn't the culprit.
did you have express mail setup? if so you have to reinstall it on the phone then log onto the express mail server and delete the connection that you made for push e-mail or turn off push, then uninstall express mail on the phone and reset. you should be OK
^^I stand corrected!
I think that is for the IM+ program that ATT provides on their roms for im. The company is called wireless village i believe. I was bugged by it for a while, well the full hour I had my device before I flashed schaps!
I use Palringo until trillian gets a clue about wireless devices. It can sync with AIM, Yahoo, MSN, Gtalk, and others.
BTW, It uses data instead of sms to send messages like the IM+ does.
i had the same question but alltheway awnsered it for me already... its kind of a side effect of flashing sometimes. it will go away on its own. i think i got it like 8 times and havent had it since.

its not necessarily a side affect of flashing, it can go away if you reinstall the app that was on the old rom that is causing it... its something that was installed on your previous rom that used silent sms to alert the program to perform a specific function. LIke PTT, expressmail, or the cing/att IM client (to tired to remember the name)... When these programs are running your phone will recieve a ghost message that is only read by the app to wake it up. Alot of these problems were seen in the hermes thread and PTT.
Nope....That is what you get when someone tries to PTT you. Without PTT you get an SMS message. The way PTT works is basically Voice MMS messaging with a trigger to open & close the voice connection (PTT Button) Those digits you see are altered SMS addresses, they are altered so that PTT can recognize them & shift it from SMS to PTT.
Agin, whenever you kill PTT, you lose the ability to decipher the modified address & hence, it's received as a MMS instead. The reason you keep getting it is because the request that was sent retries a certain number of times before failing.
why dont you ask that question in the correct thread....the one that deals with your rom??

Well, that would make Dutty's never ending post even longer. We should save that post for other problems directly regarding the rom, and comments on new updates.
Beside, I believe the problem has nothing to do with Dutty's V3, it work flawlessly for me.
I am just so tired of more or less stupid questions that constantly are repeated because newies does not take their time and READ before starting threads and asking questions. This has to stay in the DUTTY thread - my opinion.
We shouldnt end up in a new HERMES forum with all the noise and bad mouth it had last year
I do not have anything against stupid questions in general - just do some searching and reading first..
So welcome all - lets use SEARCH some more..

Wow man take a breath! Your gonna get an ulcer.
to his defense i havn't seen this question in dutty's thread at all. and i've only seen it once but not onthe kairser forums. so cut him a lil slack. plus we all learn something from it...ptt or express mail can cause this. thats sure something i didnt know. hope all is well now...enjoy your device sir.
This question was answered on the hermes forum. That is how I solved my issue. I still believe it deals with the IM app from att that uses wireless village. Ill try to find some links to help get it solved.
I couldnt find the thread in the hermes section that described the issue. It might be from OZ messanger and not IM+. It is the version that comes preinstalled from the ATT rom. It is designed to use sms to im therefore making ATT more money.
I had the same text messages when I first got the Kaiser and ran the im software. I believe my test message had a different set of numbers at the end.
Here is a link to Wireless Village. They are a group that is promoting interoperability between handsets for a variety of functions (IM included).

EDIT:
I found this article from the cingular...er...ATT forums. This is the issue I originally had and the same text from the same number. The issue below is because OZ messenger was closed and not properly exited.

I spent all day yesterday figuring this out. I downloaded and install the .cab file to my storage card and then logged into the IM program (OZ). After signing out, it kept me logged into all 3 services (Yahoo, AIM, and MSN) and then I proceeded to receive 40+ text (SMS) messages b/c it was trying to "reach me". After sitting on the phone for about an hour and half with a great Data Service Tech Rep, we figured it out and now the IM program works just fine.
~
I'm getting the message from 1111470400 and all it says is WVCI 1.1 333.

LISTEN IT KEEPS TEXTING ME AND IT WONT STOP.
HERE IS THE NUMBER ITS FROM AND WHAT IT SAYS

You know - Generally I don't get into these types of little spit / spat arguments - but today you have caught me at the perfect time.
Martinhdk - you are the type of person that makes dealing with the public so hard. You complain about things that aren't even worth complaining about. Sure - it was Dutty's ROM, but in essence had absolutely nothing to do with the ROM, it's probably the push to talk causing the issue. (Because I have the same issue) You had to try and prove yourself by spouting off and telling someone how to run things, when really, you were in the wrong.
Sometimes people get anxious and maybe don't do as much searching as they possibly should. Big DEAL - you are in a forum and since forums began it has been a problem. Does this require that you lay into the guy and tell him how stupid his question is? NO, it doesn't. You must be one very unhappy individual who probably lives a very lonely life - do us all a favor, in the future; keep your comments to yourself and let the moderators do their job.
I apologize to XDA - I know this thread / forum is not used for this. I just feel that sometimes these guys who insult someone younger / or maybe just not as experienced have a tendency to scare these guys away and I don't feel that is right.
i had the same exprience , its not the problem with your carrier , its the ATT IM+ app , if you exit the app w/o logging out of messenger app you keep getting this wierd msg , i tried unintsallng the app but no luck , finally i relashed a new rom and the error went away.
SOLUTION
What you do is you sign in to AIM at a desktop computer, the screenname you signed in on your phone. than a message will pop up saying you are signed in at two places and if you reply to that window with "1" it will sign you out at the other location, your phone. that should stop the messages.
the AIM service on your phone used txt msgs and when you close the program without first signing out. it usually causes that problem.
Stealth message?
I've heard of this so called "stealth" text message used by the carriers to send commands to the phone. My next question is - is it possible to send one of these so called "Stealth" messages from a phone to anther phone - with the proper instructions encoded in the text msg to automatically appear either on the users screen or in their inbox? I have heard this is possible but am very interested if someone could provide me a little more insight on it....
It's possible, it's been done. Would you like to know how? How do you want to send the malicious code? BT? WIFI? MMS? Maybe I can get you my bank account number & ssn while I'm at it?
There are other forums for that type of stuff, some proggies to do this are actually security auditing tools. Most all means though require the user to acknowledge receipt of whatever you send & then require them to execute it. However, I sincerely doubt that anyone here is going to give you any means to do something that may harm someone's device. Sure, you just want to play a prank, but how about the guy you then teach it to?

Invalid Phone Numbers Problem [SOLVED]

Thought I'd post this issue since I've run into it since I got my new G1. Possibly if someone has a well read blog it's worth posting there for Google to index! There must be others who have this problem. Anyway..
I moved all my numbers across via my SIM card. It seems the SIM cropped all the pluses (+) from the front of all numbers with +447... in my contacts. (+44 is UK code).
Now, a +447.. number is valid, and a 07.. number is valid, but a 447.. number is NOT!!
This I did not know. Now I need to fix 100+ numbers in my contacts.
Further to this, and G1 specific:
In Messaging if I send a message to a 07.. number it goes in a new thread. The reply will always (I think) come back with +447.. as the prefix. This means it starts its own new thread! Annoying at best.
I would recommend everyone change their numbers to use the correct +blah.. country prefix.
Also, the Messaging app could be a bit cleverer with parsing number prefixes when it comes to threading up messages . Android dev team reading??
Anyone else had this problem? Any comments?

Hard-SPL Unlocker: How do I PAY, AGAIN, so I am NEVER BLOCKED in future after PAYING?

I thank the programmers for their work on the Hard-SPL Unlocker and they deserve to be compensated for it.
But, these are the issues I have with the unlocker and the programmers themselves:
#1. I already PAID for license for my PERSONAL use for ONLY my PERSONAL TP2.
#2. I'm still being blocked from running the unlocker
#3. My service "ticket" with PROOF OF MY PAYMENT filed on the programmer’s ticket system, private messages, and e-mails are all being completely ignored since 3/29/2010
Sooo,
What are ALL the details on the process that I have to undertake to PAY them AGAIN to get a version of the unlocker that will allow me to unlock my PERSONAL TP2 for my PERSONAL use that can NEVER be blocked again ???
Thank you for any help that can be provided.
Here is a copy of the license information they post on their site.
I have highlighted/underlined every issue that is NOT being honored:
Licensing information:
it's like with previous Hard-SPL unlockers - every user gets one free use of the Hard-SPL,
further use is subject to paying 3GBP per each device.
however, if you are a private user, you can have other uses free on request if needed, such as using it on a replacement device.
the license is valid forever and all this works as transparently as possible, so for normal users nothing is noticeable; while businesses who need to unlock more devices than that, can use the link inside the program to send payment or contact cmonex or Olipro if you want to discuss bulk unlocking.
contact info is: via support link
Again, I thank the programmers for their work and they deserve to be compensated for it.
You guys have done great work.
You've earned my money.
But, my money deserves service and a response.
Please get me working and provide a solution so this doesn't happen again.
Thank you.
I'd like to make a public request to change the system currently in place.
In exchange for our payments, can we get a downloadable program that works without future issues ????
This way, we don't have to rely on the programmers to maintain their website and communication.
They are many reports that the programmners are not maintaining either, and that's fine......
as long as those that paid can get access now to a downloadable solution that will work independtly without web access with no future issues.
I bought the SIM unlocker last year when it was released. I had it on my laptop and some how I managed to screw up my hard drive. I put in a ticket because I wanted to re down load the program in case I ever need to relock my phone to have it serviced. I received 1 reply asking for my IMIE, that was like back in dec/jan. I'm glad that my phone has not bit the dust but I'm still up set at the unloker team's under handed business practices.
i wait two weeks for them answer in my ticked --silence.
pay yes --support no.
it sounds like you guys have to re-submit your problems, olipro said the system was down and they had to start over http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6571077&postcount=153.
I think olipro will get it worked out. I also tried to redownload the unlocker but unfortunately once you download for the first time you can no longer download yours again. I suggest that maybe olipro keep that link active for max 3 downloads. He has done great work though.

[Q] T-Mobile Name ID at all possible?

Is it possible- at all to add this feature to stock or a custom ROM? Google Caller ID is NOT the same. There are plenty of calls that come in that Google does not show me the name of the caller. This is a feature my company pays for and worked really well on my old, T-Mobile branded HTC One. Most ALL calls that came in had a name associated with them. I did find some old, outdated, threads with a "T-Mobile Name ID" apk to install or zip file to flash and while the app itself seems to work the actual Name ID (or caller ID) does not. Any help would be appreciated.
bump.
been a few weeks so bumping...
Blah, no need to bump. Sadly, it appears that CNAP is half-baked on the Nexus 5. As reported in this very aged issue (sorry, can't post a direct link till I rack up 10 posts, so you'll need to reassemble the link below):
code google com/p/android/issues/detail?id=3796
the Nexus 5 apparently only displays the CNAM in the notification shade, which of course vanishes once the notification is dismissed. It does not appear while the phone is ringing, or after the fact in the dialer's call log.
Given that CNAP is an integral part of the GSM spec, and not some carrier-specific bolt-on, I'd hope that Google would be more uniform in its implementation. Unfortunately, given the age of this outstanding issue, I wouldn't hold my breath.
