Firstly a HUGE thank you to all of the contributers and dvelopers of this brilliant site and forum.
I spent some time here in the Xmas hols and found everything I needed to make up my mind, get and configure my new PDA. The links that people put on led me to various suppliers and here is what I ended up with.
02 XDA11 on 400 min tarrif for £139
Rikaline Bluetooth GPS for £137 - yep not a wire in site.
Tom Tom software £105 from Tom Tom
and heres what I learnt here to make it work!
Towa's awesome application to configure the bluetooth.
Tom Tom upgrade from their site to GPS 2.09 and Navigator 2.24
The code to enter the Rikaline (1234)
Everything works awesomely, a fully mobile solution for under £400 with PDA.
I hope that helps a few of the newcomers and again - THANK YOU all for your help.
Happy XDAing

Hi guys,
I have spent much time reading the various forums on the different options on the SAT NAV. I would like to offer comment, and ask assistance at the same time (ooeerr!!)
1) I have been using the ipaq with the Navman GPS 3000 for a long long time, and have used it with almost every piece of software compatable. I live in Devon, England and probably cover about 30,000 miles a year, and would comment as follows for assistance:
Destinator - antequated ****e that couldn't navigate its way from A to B down a straight road with no turnings.
Tom Tom 2 and early 3 - Very pretty, but WARNING - crazy route choices, especially on some of the B roads. Most upsettingly, two of the towns near me are not listed - thus making searches really hard. Also good for adding your own POI's
Smart ST Pro 2 - Very very functional, excellent route choices. No personal POI's and version 2 not 3D.
Every time I have ended up with Tom Tom's software, I have given up and reverted back to Smart ST Pro (bundled with Navman).
So question.
Is the latest version of Tom Tom better at routes?
If not, can a version of smart ST pro be made to work on XDA II
IF so, which version of hardware is best used with it?
Or should I just keep the Compaq in glove box for sat nav, and use XDA for other stuff
Help help help help!!!! ! ! !
cheers guys
JJ
Love the Destinator comments! As for TomTom, V3 with the latest update it is much improved, routing is logical, maps are still TeleAtlas but that's something we'll have to live with. The custom POI's are a hugely popular feature, you can utilise our Safety Camera database and there is Digitools excellent (and free) UKPostCode plug-in so you can navigate with a PostCode as the only info necessary (see www.digitools.co.uk ).
Runs fine on an XDAII with the latest ROM which is especially apt if you use the Traffic feature updating via GPRS, works perfectly. You'll find the performance of the latest GPS Mice and BT GPS receivers much improved over the Navman GPS Jackets, more satallites, quicker TTFF and much better at holding on to weak signals.
Thanks for the feedback griffog,
I will give it a try then.
I will let you know how I get on!
Right, back to my search for Pocket PC Elite!! ......
Cheers

Thjis is a post for anybody using TOM TOM 3.
Just as a quick experiment to see if they have corrected a minor oversite.
Coud you see if Tavistock and Totnes are listed as towns in the search engine.
We all wish we could forget these places, but unfortuntately, we still have to visit!!!! !!!
Cheers guys in advance
Happy to confirm that both Totnes and Tavistock appear on the address search and are cirrectly indexed as being in Devon.
Thanks griffog,
I suppoose that's good news !!!!!!! ha!
Cheers

Hi I was just wondering if anyone has any comments on which is the best sat nav program Tom Tom 3 Nav or Alturion 6. I am using tom tom at the moment but having a few problems so might switch to alturion.
I've used both and I do believe that Alturion is the better of the two.
+ The fact that you have an PC-application as well as an pda one
+ you can combine different maps and make them as one, so you don't have to change maps at the border. Tom Tom has European roads, but then it lacks the detail where you want it. Alturion you can have like the area where you start, 5km around your planned route, and the province of your destination, in high detail, and the so build map, wouldn't be larger than any other map.
So why do I have TomTom then, well because of the price
TomTom costs 169€
Alturion 129€, but Alturion charges 79€/year for support
TomTom has a larger community so easier to find addons like Poicheck
but most importantly TomTom is warez, Alturion I haven't found as warez

What do u mean by warez?
warez = free version to 'test' a commercial app.
you wont be suprised that testing will take forever
in other words: it is not officially licensed and thus illegal s/w
alturion v6 is on the newsgroups
maps are updated more freq with altruion theres some nice features but the menus are a bit fiddly also its speed sensor function is good
it automatically calls out if your exceding the speed limit for the particular road your driving on
nice that it works on my laptop as well as xda2
suppose tt3 is good as its easyily used but it needsds more updates for maps
tt4 is out but not tried it yet
xda2 with alturion 6 standard
Hi
I am new to this site, I am a proud owner of a second hand XDA2. I already have alturion std 6 version with a serial gps receiver.I have installed it on my xda2 and when i try to export maps, for some reason it says i dont have active sync on my computer. It is strange because i would'nt have installed alturion on my xda2 without active sync. By the way I have active sync 4.2 on my PC.
Any help will be very much appreciated
cheers
shanks
Alturion has a very good helpdesk. Beter to ask it there.
I think you should stay with Tomtom.
Hi Guys
I wanted to know what GPS app is the best (and easist to install)?
and which GPS device/reciver is the most compatible?
Regards
Kim
Hi,
I use Route 66 with France's maps. The soft is fast, easy, we could modify pois, but maps are old (2005).
I have tested TomTom, V6, for pda. The soft is good, but hard to use with fakecursor.
Bye.
And excuse my poor english.
For route planning I use Tom Tom Mobile 5.2 with the Tom Tom MKII blue tooth receiver - only because I already had it when I got a WM 2003 phone a couple of years ago, but it works fine with my HTC S710.
For other general GPS stuff I use the freeware program GPS VP - downloaded from http://gpsvp.garminmapsearch.com/ or Google Maps
The Tom Tom receiver is a bit slow in getting a fix, but it can be used with the Navizon Virtual GPS which combines Phone GSM and WiFi triangulation with the GPS signal - so you always get a fix - even indoors!! plus they pay you for collecting the WiFi and phone position data - download from http://my.navizon.com/Webapps/UserAdmin/register.aspx?referral_code=5D575C5D5C5C
tomtom
Hi guys
thanks for the help..
what about tomtom v6 - will it work?
Tomtom v6 works, look here :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=335963
It's not easy to use Tomtom v6 on Vox, it's developped for pda, not for smartphone, and we have to use FakeCursor (cursor on screen, like a touch screen) to use tomtom on Vox.
Bye.
And sorry for my poor english.
Hi All
just upgraded (or should that be downgraded) to a TD2 but I cant get either version of TT 6 or 7 to install. In both cases it tells me the software/device are incompatible...
Device data WM 6.1 pro build 21042.1.6.1
processor MSM7200A - 528MHz
All assistance greatly appreciated as I want/need it for my hols startin Sat!!
Thanks
Pete
The only advice I can give as I don;t have mine yet is post on the TD2 forum... there are lots of TomTom threads there
TT7 7.45 cab works, TT6 works too - what are you doing as I had it running fine.
Hi
I had purchased v6 originally and it wasn't recognised by my PDA. I bought v7 and it told e that it was incompatible with the device as well as screwing up TT home. From that and searching in here I found a cab file for a version called 7.95 which works but only recognises maps of Spain and Pertugal which I had purchased through TT home prior to the upgrade.
It wont recognise either v7 or v6 maps of UK no matter what I try (no code works) I am told this is because TT7 is free but the maps cost and self install/authorise without the user needing to enter an authorisation code.
TT support told me that their support doesn't cover TD2 as they haven't tested it yet...therefore I'm stuck...
I know i'm going to get blasted about no warez slogans but if TomTom aren't going to support it for some time then i guess they don't deserve your money right now, warez it and then when it gets supported, you might want to consider buying it.
It's better than not having a gps on hand.
tom tom more maps
I installed tom tom and it works. i installed 1 map (western europa).. tehn i want to install another (center en eastern europa) but this did not work.. Can i install 2 maps on 1 device? or is this not possible?
Greet all!!

Hi
it works on my without any problems. I use their ver 7 try&buy.
don't bother to install any warez version as most of them are ported from pna devices and not working.
rgds
works here great also... sd ready version - license from german mediamarkt=)
No problems at all
Installed the Try & Buy Version from Navigon Website and licensed after a week
does TMC work with navigon on HD2?
30 day trial version from Navigon website here also, works great!
I have TMC working with the GNS Trafficbox FM9BT-Y(hate it because when I'm not in or near the car you get a screen asking to connect bluetooth blabla every few seconds)
So using TMC from Navigon (Traffic Live) now, seems to work very good.
It uses the data connection to get traffic info and is free for the trial period.
I'm not sure what Traffic Live is going to cost though, it seems that the Iphone guys get it for $20 orso for lifetime.
A can me somebody write line where can draw down that 30 trial version?Be about blind but cannot it find thanks in advance
http://www.navigon.com/portal/int/produkte/navigationssoftware/mobile_navigator_windows_mobile_region.html
Aber sicher! Yes, it works!
Und noch dazu, Traffic Live läuft wunderbar! And, even more, Traffic Live is working by the book.
Mfg, Cheers.
