Which version should I get? I live in the USA in WA and currently have T-Mobile service.
1. T-Mobile MDA II. Since this is from T-Mobile, will it have an optimized radio stack and better performance? I'm concerned about the German ROM. I found the thread that talks about how to convert it but will changing it prevent me from installing future rom updates as they usually check the previous version?
2. i-Mate. I believe the rom is in English on this one and there is already an updated ROM released. I'm concerned about perfomance if I don't have a T-Mobile branded device.
3. O2 XDA II. Same concerns as #2.
Please help me make a decision. I'm ready to buy.
Thanks!
MDA from Tmobile Germany, this one would have to be flashed with an English Rom. (some places are doing it. - question to ask does it have English manuals or German ones) You would void any warranty and you are stuck for any upgrades. I personally would not buy a GERMAN ROM.
Imate - Great deivce, English original ROM. I have one, works well, official updates, worldwide warranty. Great tech support.
XDAII - O2 you might have to unlock it but with the new tool no problems. I would have no problems buying one.
I do not think you will have any performace issues. Just slight changes in add on software for each device.
Personally I would go for a Imate or XDAII. I would not spend all that money on a hacked MDA.
It's all the same device, just different brand labels. This is likely to be even more true for the XDAII than for the the XDA.
Don't worry too much about different radio versions being optimized for different providers: my guess is we'll see one unified radio software to fit all. It's all the same device, just different brand labels. This is likely to be even more true for the XDAII than for the the XDA.

Which is the best phone to purchase for use in the U.S. on ATT wireless network? xda2 imate mdaII? I am a newbie so if addressed previously give me a break. I had a sx56 previously and am interested in upgrading.
They really are the same machine, so all will work equally well in the US. I think that O2 adds a good bit of software on the XDA II that will be useless with AT&T. The MDA II is a T-Mobile (Germany) branded device and the previous statement may be true of it as well.
I went with the i-mate, and I believe it has less provider-specific software than any of the others (the QTek 2020 is the same device as well). I have been happy with the quick release of updates on the Club i-mate website and very happy with the device.
The important thing to make sure of with any of these devices is that it is unlocked - that is, not locked to a specific provider (phone company).
And if it is locked..is cheaper.
Then you can unlock it and chnage from I-mate,O2,T-Mobile companies when you want.
I cannot decide which I want, I don't know which is better, what I was told as they are the same exact phone except ones T-Mobile, and the other is O2, umm. I want to go for the cheapest greatest choice, can someone give me some recommendations on this?, etc?. I'm new to PDA's.
it's the same device
apart from the software that can differ
I have an unlocked XDA II on E-bay - just follow the link:-

Or a brand new one also unlocked, and contract free:-

I had a O2 mini which i transformmed into the T-Mobile 1.13 , but I wonder what does the T-Mobile 1.13 have that the O2 Mini 1.03 didnt have? Or what did the o2 Mini 1.03 have that T-Mobile doesnt have? I really want to know which other model/brands are better or offer better "extra" Rom tools that make the Magician powerful. Suggestions and why YOUR Brand makes the cake?
First of all, your subject is deceiving because you are actually asking about the ROM versions and not a specific Magician model.
I guess you know that the Magician is resold/rebranded as Qtek, iMate, T-mobile, O2, Orange, etc. The rebranded units whether from Qtek, iMate, etc. are all exactly the same, because they are all made by HTC.
The ROM is composed of two parts. The main ROM and the Extended ROM. The main ROM for any version (i.e. WWE 1.13) is standard to any brand. The Extended ROM however is brand specific. Each brand/provider like O2, T-mobile, Orange put some programs in the Extended ROM to automatically configure the unit based on the brand/provider's requirements. An example would be GPRS, MMS configurations.
The best is to restructure your ROM by using Big Storage. Install the latest ROM (ver 1.13) then you can select what Extended ROM programs you want from what ever brand/provider.
But... when I upgrade my Magican to Qtek, I have some problem.
My Camera don't work anymore, and the speaker sometime is work, sometime is mute! How about it?
And, can you show me what this mean.
I found a lot ROM shiped but I don't kwon which one is O2, Qtek, Imate...

o2asia_11100_922_11100_ship.exe

Can you show me what is the number in the middle 128 or 992 or 550 means?
As of today Palm is selling the Treo 750 unlocked in europe, so you don't need a vodafone contract. Now my big question is, will Palm make available the rom on that phone (or an update) so that I have a clean rom on my 750v...
where did you see it available tjmvdz?
as stated on the palm website, the sale will start the 25th of Feb or something like that....but I think I would go for it earlier if it would be available
Unusually for Vodafone, the 750v has one of the cleanest WM5 ROMS I've seen on any PPC. The only bit of branding I can see is phone startup screen. So i don't think you'll gain much anyway.
I would like this ROM as it has HSDPA active in it. Would be nicer than that hack.

Oops, sorry! not available yet. I jumped the gun as I saw it on the Palm UK webpage.
They should ship it not only with HSDPA active, but also with an updated ROM and some other Palm improvements. For me personally I strongly hope that it will solve my reception problems when I am in roaming. It is a known and confirmed firmware problem.
mmm different websites like msmobiles.com and pocketpcthoughts.com said it was available as of today..
Hi I brought a HTC TyTN II a few weeks ago from an Australian supplier. The phone works great but when I try to install the “TOMTOM” navigation disk it says the ROM version is incorrect. I contacted HTS Australia, they say the unit is from Indonesia and so not supported here. Can anyone tell me where I can get an Australian ROM version? I am with Telstra for my mobile. I see lots of ROM versions on this site but not sure which one. ( sorry im new)
thanks
Tim
Yeah I'd like to get my hands on a current TyTN II rom for Australia.
I'm currently running Duttys latest rom which is working fine for the most part. I did have a small issue today where people on incoming calls couldnt hear me speak but a soft reset seems to have fixed that for now. Hope it doesnt come back
You can download it from http://www.asia.htc.com/Dopod_Aus/member/login.aspx You need to register with the serial number of an Australian phone to get access to the Australian ROMs. As far as I was aware the Australian (non branded TyTnII) phones ship with CoPilot and not TomTom. (At least mine did). So this may explain your TomTom issues.
Initially I flashed the Aust Hutch Three ROM to my phone but to be honest it really offers very little over the standard ROM other than the custom Three shortcuts which are easy enough to replace. I am with Three in Australia and very happily running Duttys Roms on my phone. I doubt flashing an Asutralian ROM will fix the TomTom isssue. I would be checking on its Authenticity and chasing it up with the supplier rather than HTC.
The Australian (non network branded) TyTn2's don't come with Tomtom taster, so an AU rom will not allow you to install Tomtom either... hope you didn't pay full AU retail price.
No Asian Tytn2 comes with Tomtom either AFAIK, even if it installs it will only give you a choice of US/Canada maps to download... making it useless.
Best bet is to buy Tomtom or another full version nav program. (and get onto whoever sold it to you asking why an "AU" phone would have the US nav taster (tomtom) bundled and not Copilot7 which is the official Australian bundled nav program.) If you got it from Ebay it is almost definately an asian grey market import... usually an SE Asia OEM phone (which have nothing bundled but Phone Backup, then some bad sellers include a useless US software disk to make it look more legit.)
I've got TomTom running on my TyTN II without a problem. All you have to do is go back one version to the .30 install and you wont have the rom issue. then you just need to copy all the maps and voices down to your storage card. I found the older version of TomTom on mininova.
Hi
My TyTN cam with Map King. I purchased TomTom as an option.
My ROM version is 1.82.707.0 WWE from 11/03/07, so its old. The phone has been working fine until i tried io install the Tomtom. I am also on the Telstra network. Thanks for the feedback so far.
regards
Tim
