Bluetooth Headset Mini-Review - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 Accessories

Actually not really a review, just some initial thoughts after opening the box.
Woohoo! Got my Bluetrek bluetooth headset today.
I got it because it was the cheapest available, only $40 after mail-in rebate (warning: rebate only applicable if you're in the United States), and someone said it worked with the XDA II.
http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=90119243&loc=111&sp=1
However I also read many good reviews on it, and many users said they liked it, so I figured I might as well give it a shot.
Review here: http://www.mobileburn.com/review.jsp?Id=112
and here:
I saw a sticker on the front of the box (an extra barcode sticker that looked like it has just been slapped on) that said V1.2. I didn't think anything of it.
Then, when I opened the box, there was a piece of paper with some info on it. It says ATTENTION on the top. It goes on to say
"This is an UPGRADE version with up to 12 hours talk time (12 hours in HV3/9:30 hours in HV2/6 Hours in HV1) and 350 hours standby."
And then it goes on to talk about charging it, etc.
12 HOURS? The Jabra BT200 gets 2-3 hours, and the new BT250 (which isn't even released yet) is rumored to be the exact same as the BT200 but with 8 hours talk time. I don't know what HV 1/2/3 is, but even assuming worst case and it only works in HV1 it still gets twice as much as the BT200. If you average the three times you come up with 9 hours of talk time. That's more than the BT250, at about 1/3 the price! And everywhere online (including their website, etc.) it says "up to 12 hours talk time."
Overview:
- most talktime of any bluetooth headset
- weighs less than 1 ounce
- cheapest of any bluetooth headset
- comes with bluetooth headset itself, a carrying case, a wall charger, and a car charger!
Uhh, I'd say we have a winner here.
-arebelspy

So did it work with XDAII?
Hi arebelspy!
Am curious - did the Bluetrek work with your XDAII?
Does it work with Microsoft's voice command?
Thanks.[/quote]

how did it work???

More Working BT Headsets for the XDA II / iMate
G'day All,
Just thought I'd add to the "review"
The Bluetake GII (as opposed to Bluetrek) headset is the first one that we've found that works well and sounds good with the XDA II / iMATE.
You can get the specs on http://estore.pressd.com in the headset section.
Decent talk time and sound quality.
* The Ericsson HBH65 doesn't work at all. The HBH35 sort of works.
* The Nokia headsets all work temporarily then drop out after 10 mins as Nokia has written their firmware specifically not to stay paired with non-Nokia handsets!!!! (I believe they may be in court over this one!)
* Jabras - Moderate success but weird pairing issues.
Hope that helps.

Holux GR 230 Bluetooth GPS on XDA2

I have just been following all the developments with the Bluetoth Stack Problems etc, after actually I had Ordered the Holux BT GPS Receiver.
I am still awaiting delivery, but after reading the last thread under GPS/Bluetooth got a bot dissappointed as a lot of people seem to have problems with the Reception.
I actually did some research before ordering and the reviews were promising. So in real life, what are the problems with the actual GPS itsself and how is the reception?
Even though I haven't tried Towas BT Fix, but I must congratulate as it seems very impressive the job he has done. I have downloaded all is required in terms of software fixes.
Please share your experiences with the Holux BT GPS and if anyone likes to do a preview perhaps?
I've already posted my comments in another thread but to summarise - it doesn't work ver well at all. I've used a Navman/iPaq combo - worked quite well, a Nokia LAM1/9210 - worked surprisingly well too, then a CF GPS in an Axim - worked extremely well, then this Holux device with an XDA II - the worst so far, by far. I'm assuming that the problem isn't with the XDA II as it uses a 400 mhz xScale 263 cpu which should be more than sufficient. I had read that these things would pick up a decent signal from within a rucksack or pocket, and indoors from a few feet from a window, but not in my case.
I can't wait to see what other peoples experiences are.
Ged.
How did you get the holux to work with xda2, I am having no luck with it.
I just installed towas patch, when I chose the holux it allowed me to assign a serial port "com4 chosen" this then appeared under gps in tomtom, works great and the headset works at same time, it did prevent me synching via bluetooth which was working fine before, but that is no hardship as I am unlikely to be synching by bluetooth while running tomtom.
P.s. I tried changing com ports for the gps but it didnt help so I removed my bluetooth desktop pc bluetooth profile, went to settings/bluetooth, told it to sync by bluetooth, it searched for and found my pc bluetooth dongle, when I click finish Towas patch pops up, I selected activesync and it now all works, the guys a genius with programming.
Got my Holux working too
Even though I was very nervous about the Holux, it has proved for me working very well, but it did take a bit to get things working.
At first, I removed all bluetooth devices, then installed Towas' Patch and then added the BT Devices (Holux + HBH-65). The HBH-65 worked well all the time, but once I loaded the Holux supplied software GPSviewer, it kept crashing and froze or it automatically kept rebooting. Tried all different ports but no success.
Finally, I had to Hard-Reset the XDA2 and then first install Towas's BT Patch before pairing any devices or installing any applications. Then I tried some third party software and finally Mapopolis and saw it working perfectly (COM 5, 9600). For some reason, GPSviewer is not compatible with either the XDA2 or Towas's Patch at any setting.
The Positioning is very good and usually have 8 sats locked out of 10 visible. I saw the device to be very accurate, perhaps to about 1-2 metres on Mapopolis. I even get around 3-4 Sats locked when I am indoors (thats either on the top floor or near a window. First time to fix is always around 30secs and hotstart seems immediate to me. The only matter which has got to me was that while driving, the positioning seemed to be lagging behind and Mapopolis came up with streets which just passed. I am also quite pissed off with the male voice of mapopolis as it sounds awful. I have now ordered TomTom V.2 and will keep u guys posted how that goes.
PS: The BT Handset works well at the same time as the GPS, but still missing the Handsfree BT Profile.
Anyone any update about O2 (UK) ROM Update?
I found no lag with Tomtom2, it was on the button and extremely accurate, does anybody know if the battery can be swapped out of this unit in the event of a failure once warrany is out?
I would think so. I took mine apart to see what was inside and it's very similar to one that you'd find in a cordless phone. Nothing special really and there are lots of companies out there that supply custom or specialist batteries.

i take it ur talking about the prolems "when you change the baud rate on the GR-230, it would lose communication via Bluetooth"?
if so the review on pocketgps.co.uk for the unit is quite good. its available @
http://www.pocketgps.co.uk/holuxgr230.php
but it explains that its a firmware prob with units shipped B4 Dec 03, which can B fixed.
Hope this helps. ive just ordered 1 myself, £95 off ebay, will do nicely if it works, i shall let ya'll know.

XDA II and HBH-35

Hi I am having trouble with this headset not detecting calls coming in or allowing me to switch to it while on calls!
I can use it once after bonding with the phone, and then thats it, it will not work anymore. It does beep if I turn bluetooth on or off on the phone, so it does detect it but it will not recognise calls anymore, unless I turn the headset off completely and On again and reset it and rebond, sometimes just turning it on and off is enough but not always.
Anyone else experience this? or have any ideas that may help?
I am using Rom version 1.72 and the Headset is revision R1B...
I am just not sure whether I should return the Headset or complain to imate?
As you know the XDA II does not support handsfree mode sadly, and if you have your Bluetooth device set to handsfree mode and not headset this causes problems answering your device.
This goes for the use of the bluetooth button with Nokia Cark-91 kits, they can bond, they will allow you to dail out and tranfer the call but answering the call can be tricky even on headset mode
Look at the manual for your HBH-35 and see how to set headset mode.
If you can't set it then I would take it back for a refund.
Look for an alternative headset, you shouldn't have to pay more than £65 in the high street now for a suitable headset.
If you do have problems finding one, I am importing 100 headsets from supplier in far east. These will work with your XDA II gaurenteed... Cost is £35 + P&P ( will ship world wide)
Details:
1. Clear voice, sound volume can be adjusted freely
2. Attractive appearance, many colours for choice
3. Powerful battery, standby time 120 hours and talking time up to 6 hours
4. Three different designs for spare earplug of SPEAKER
5. Light weight, less than 16g
6. Ear-hook can be taken off, without any influence on wearing
7. UK wall charger (like nokia phone charger) & car charger included.
I am looking at combinded USB/car chargers as accessories
Hi
I use an HBH-65 with bluetooth tools, it works really well, I can answer icoming calls and dial the last number from the hedset button.
I tried the HBH-35 before I bought the 65 and it worked perfectly, again using bluetooth tools.
Cheers
JustinP
I had lots of problems with the Plantronics M3000 doing exactly the same thing on my Ozzie 1.66 Rom XDAII. Now have Hello 2 headset that seems to be working well after a day.
Very comfortable too. At a little over A$130 it seems like good value compared to the other items on sale here.

Headphones stopped working - socket or software?

My Orbit 2's headphone socket has just stopped working - the ext usb socket works fine otherwise, it charges and syncs via usb as normal. When you plug the headphones in it doesn't route the sound to the headphones though and any sound that's playing continues to route itself through the rear speaker.
The phone mic and earpiece works as normal.
I figure it's either the socket that's duff or it's software problem. Anyone had anything similar or got any thoughts?
If it's a hardware fault then I think this will be the last HTC phone that I own, it's already been back for repair once and I had to send my last phone (an Artemis) back twice because it packed up and the only other person with an HTC phone here at work has just sent his orbit back because it died on him. Add in the rubbish graphics performance and it's maybe time to look elsewhere.
Answering my own question. Just tried the supplied adaptor in an artemis and it does the same thing as the orbit 2, so looks like it's the adaptor, presumably the plug. I can't have used it more than a dozen times during which time it's been subject to nothing more stressful than sitting in the inside pocket of my suit jacket.
Cheap tat, I think, is what we are spending our money on these days.
I've just spent the last fifteen minutes messing around with said artemis, which has more or less the same software and it's a bit faster and a damned sight more responsive than my orbit 2!!
And the subsequent 15 minutes 'explaining' to o2 customer services that the sale of goods act covers more than just the handset itself...
Off to my local O2 store for some fun tommorrow morning...
Woohoo! the jog dial rubber's fallen off again, it just gets better and better! Lasted all of four weeks this time round. O2 must be having nightmares with this phone.
And in the latest instalment of the fishes234 blog, courier arrived this morning with a delightful little Benq flip phone to replace my Orbit 2
Well, after a couple of conversations with Jackie and Sean at O2 I finally got them to replace my broken orbit2 with a not broken orbit 2 and have enjoyed almost a whole month of fully functional Orbit 2, which for me, since April has been a first
Decided to listen to the radio this morning, so popped the headphones on to find that they were only working in one ear. Jiggled the plug around and got it working. The Mrs rang and I tried to hold a conversation using the headphones and mic, except the inline mic doesn't appear to be working any more. I've only used the headphones three times since I got this unit.
Iphones are looking more and more attractive by the day.
Two whole weeks later and I pulled my phone out of my pocket whilst enjoying a refreshing early evening guinness in a local beer garden.
The rubber band thing has gone again.
Am I the only one having this much luck?
I can only say: You are not alone
My problem (sound > one ear) is new, i searching solutions ...
If you've found one, let me know :thx:
(p.s. sorry, english is not my native lang)
me too. my rubber is not cut or nothing and my headphone stopped working. only one side played for a while then both sides died. i am so pissed. this was my listening device on the train to and from work now i am just bored and sleepy on the train
update 06.08.2008 08:57 PM:
===
stats:
- new phone
- no additional accessories
- nothing installed, except navigation
first indication, somethings 'not really working right way'
> travelling a long way, a sunny day, playing sound & navigation
sounds like one of the 'overheat symptoms'
===
get answer to this problem:
- software-hard-reset
- checking/ replacing headphones with my friends headphones
>>> only the phone knows the answer ... and htc
After the rubber bit fell off again I rang O2 yesterday to get a replacement orbit 2 sorted out and went through the drill.
This morning the courier delivered an orbit 1 as a replacement.
When I get a proper replacement this will be the fifth unit in three months and the second time they've sent out the wrong phone.
This must be a design fault as I've been pretty careful with how i've treated the phone and it must be costing O2 an arm and a leg!

Issues with SE MW600

Hi,
I recently bought this nice bluetooth earphone (Sony Ericsson MW600) - because it was mentioned, it works great on Nexus One.
But I got a somehow strange problem:
when it is connected to the phone (at least, bluetooth settings say so), I can phone with this headset but I cannot listen to any music.
Settings say, it's connected to phone and media.
I tried enomthers and cyanogens latest roms.
Has anybody any idea, what is wrong?
edit: tested it with a SE v640i - works perfektly - must be an issue with the nexus/rom/whatever :-/
Thanks,
bastie
how did you buy them?
via ebay
it is unused and the package was not opened, too...
okay, after searching through the net for several hours - here's the solution:
it does not work, when wireless lan is turned on - for whatever reason
so:
first turn off wireless lan
then connect mw600 and play music
seems like bluetooth and wlan are blocking each other
Good to know. I just ordered one for 50 bux shipped when I preordered from mobilecityonline.com, which still is selling for the same price but now shipping is no longer free because it's no longer a preorder item. I figured its better than retail or ebay after my stint with a fake SE product a few years back. Thanks for the info!
One thing I learn is never buy bluetooth headsets or memory cards from ebay. 99.9% of them are fakes.

Hello Everyone,
kpjimmy, I ordered and received my MW600 from mobilecityonline.com too. They seem to have nice service.
How can we tell if we got a counterfeit device or not. I had problems in the past with serveral brands?
Did you find the instruction in the box were not detailed ?
I went to sony ericsson support page for the MW600, no user guide pdf file. Only the warranty pdf. I noticed for the other devices such as the DS205,DS970,DS980 there are user guide pdf files. Have you found one for the MW600?
Must say, I am impressed with the battery life. I took out of the box, charged for 8 hours as per instructions. Turned it on, paired it, turned on the FM radio with 100% volume. It went 10.75 hrs, even a few phone calls before dead. Did 3 full 8 hrs charges/10.75hrs to full discharges cycles.
Thank you,
Monnie
I have used the headset for a week or so and I must say it is an awesome little headset for the cash! I also have the plantronics 590A but that is for my personal home use, but the MW600 is great for the office or when you are out and about. I haven't taken any calls with the headset yet though.
As for this being possibly a fake headset? I have to say my last 'fake' headset was in the box, (wasn't sealed btw) and when used, the sound was too tinny like cheapo headsets you get at your local convenience store. This one I received from Mobilecityonline, in my opinion the real deal. The sound is nice and functions as it should. Very satisfied with the headset.
Anyone want a aliph icon? LOL kiddin...that's what I use when in the car.
Jimmy you work for SE? you haven't take any calls yet? and you used it for so long? or do you work for mobilecityonline.com? let me know what is your deal?
I hace one and very annoying problem with this headset . When i plug id to HD2 and turn on the WIFI , music freeze for a less then second and sound geting disorted and very thin (it sound like the music change frequency to very low. Anyone had this problem ?

I don't work for either. I am a BT and tech junkie . I have taken a call on the MW600 and all sounds fine and works great as expected. I have since use my Aliph Icon with the new A2DP drivers installed.
However, I also have gotten the BlueAnt S4. I have used this more than the MW600 and I have to admit I love the thing. It is truely handsfree and the sound is great, clear, loud and is truly handsfree.

You plug in? The MW600 does not need to be plugged in. The HD2 has A2DP. All you need to do is turn on your bluetooth and pair the phone with the headset. When you play the music with your bluetooth on, the phone should automatically connect to the headset and play wirelessly, no plugging in necessary. Please give us additional detail. Thanks!
my mw600 works great - 5.0.5.3 through froyo.
so the skip forward/back and play/pause buttons on this can control the music?
Because I've lost the original N1 remote and am looking for decent replacements.
Thanks
it controls music. display obviously doesn't show the track like it might if paired with a sony device however. touch volume slider is kinda annoying.

Same here !!!
Really annoying!
Just got it. Had a Nokia BH-103 before but it broke. On the Nokia the sound sometimes was getting faster or a bit slower from time to time but that did not annoy me that much, now i can hardly hear on song. even if i turn of wifi the issue remains. please please help. really was looking forward to use my new mw600 and now the expirence is ruined.
headset works great with ps3 and notebook even over "big" distance (can hear music in every room of my flat)
so i guess it's the devices fault
having a htc hero using villian rom 10.2
PLEASE HELP
SOLVED !!!!!
setting the cpu speed somehow messes up bluetooth audio transfare
disabled overclocking now works like a charm
I tried my friend's SE MH-100 which he uses for his Aino, but my N1 can't even find it via bluetooth. I ordered the MBS 200 which is a bluetooth speaker also from SE and I'm still waiting for it.
Any clue why it can't find the MH-100? Im afraid it wont be able to scan the MBS200's bletooth as well
UPDATE: It's working great
I ordered one from ebay just now because Sony Ericsson Canada is selling is for $99.99 (mobilecityonline sells it for $50 but charges $40 US for shipping too Canada...)
After reading stories about fake bluetooth, I am worried. How do I tell if the one I bought is genuine or not? I bought it from this seller: http://cgi.ebay.com/SonyEricsson-MW...ewItem&pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item1e5cfdeebe
I purchased one from mobilecityonline in person.
I don't really like the volume control, but I encounter a pairing problem with nexus one.
If I keep the pairing with the phone, it works 100%, but if I connect it to another device, it refuse to connect to nexus one again except I pair them again.
The battery is awesome though, I play 8 hours of wireless music and the battery doesn't run out.

Nokia CK-100 Car Kit

Today I have installed a Nokia CK-100 Car Kit into my car. And so far it works great!
Pairing was a breeze, fully automatic. And everything seemd to be working out of the box. According to the people I've called for testing there is no echo and the sound quality is very good. Even with the volume very high, there was still no echo.
A2DP seemed to be working very good as well. Played some music to test, and was pleasantly surprised that also worked immediately. I never had an A2DP enabled carkit, so didn't know what to expect really. But the sound quality seemed really nice.
Haven't tried with navigation yet though. Would be nice to get instructions over the speakers as well. Will give this a try tomorrow and let you know.
After hearing about some echo problems etc with the CK-7W I was a bit worried. But fortunately everything worked right away: pairing, calling and A2DP.
So that's why I'm creating this thread, just to give a headsup that not every Nokia carkit in combination with Android (2.1) is a failure .
And perhaps others would like to share their experience as well with the CK-100 in combination with Android?
Hi,
I notice that you live in NL.
Any suggestion where to buy this to get the best price?
Thanks a lot.
Well, I got it 'via via' for 120 euros including professional build-in and active brodit cradle/holder in the car.
I guess you should be able to get the carkit for 100 euro's (see tweakers.net pricewatch).
