Source O2 Developer Event 26th Sept 2003 - General Topics

http://www.sourceo2.com/Events/2003_Annual_Event/default.htm
Is anybody going to this?
There are a few sessions specific to the XDA, so could be interesting.
If somebody's going, would it be a good idea to consolidate a list of techie questions to try and get some answers?

nothing relevant here
I have some comments to leave in a developers forum but cannot post there until I spam 10 times. I apologize in advance.

I'm also part of this new member minimum. I have been able to post before but had to change my account so now I'm stuck having to wait 10 posts before posting in the Dev section.
You started off well by posting your question here, but I see that the majority of you just want to 'ask a developer' something.
Questions do not belong in Development forums. Period.
Many of the site's Developers come into Q&A regularly specifically to answer your questions.
If your question is specific to a single device, ask it in the Q&A forum for that device, not in the Development section itself. You stand a much better chance of getting a proper answer (and not getting flamed) if you ask your questions in here.
You are welcome to post your questions in this thread, and I will provide whatever help I can, or point you in the right direction. There is so much information available here that there's a good chance your questions have been answered many times over already.
We all need to do our little bit to keep the material in Development sections clear and concise, regardless of what we see others doing
Cheers!

I dont like the10 post rule..i have an issue i need to get sorted and dont wanna run around posting in random things so i can post in the specific thread :S
We are all treated as babies and we must prove ourselves

Moreover we should not rush. We must wait 5 minutes between post
I think posts on threads count too. New threads are referred to as "Topics" on this site =S

I too think is kinda sucks to have to post 10x first but rules are rules. Been flashing for months now mainly Darky's but now switch about once a week.
I particularly enjoy this 10 post start up. It puts a pressure on people that don't belong to leave. I just bought a Skyrocket moving over to android from my iPhone 3GS and I've found this site incredibly efficient.
Its understandable don't want PPL running up the Dev sections with question anyway answered

i don't like this rule too
That thing is weird...
I have an 8 post shortfall and want to contact a developer with what will be a common question, so I have to send a PM when a reply would be much more effective.
Suggested alternative:
- Restrict 'New topic' function to those with > 10 posts
- Allow thread starters to moderate their thread.

new here calling for help..

hi, i want to post in android apps&games, however, i will not have access to do it untill i've posted 10 posts.

Yes, replies are counted in your post count. You don't have to start 10 threads to be able to post elsewhere.

Guys, not to be harsh, but did we really need to make yet another thread about the minimum post count?
The administrators and moderators on this forum placed the minimum post count to stop spam. If you really, really, really need access to a forum just pm a mod/admin - more than likely they will help you out of your pickle. Otherwise, just take some time and post around the forums you do have access to... just remember quality is always better than quantity.
Threads like this only encourage the minimum post count to be raised (considering the vast majority of posts are essentially trash).
this 10 post thing is really irritating
i wanted to post but for that minimum 10 posts are needed

That does suck.. theres 3...
It would be nice if devs could lift the restriction on a per-thread basis. I'm sure it's too complicated to implement.... but the OP of this thread now has a thread in the Apps forum asking for beta testers for his app.
However, since he wants the beta testers to reply to the thread in the Apps forum to sign up for the beta, it's a little frustrating to have to make 10 posts in order to reply in a thread like that.

Just saying....
this is going to be the thread where people eliminate their post limits, or at least thats what i'm doing
i still think it's dumb how XDAD limits users until they have the 10 posts, and I wanted to post on a thread i have been following for a few months now.
Definitely not 10 threads!

MIUI Taboo?

First to be clear, I do not spend every waking minute I have trolling around XDA reading anything and everything that is posted. I hardly have time for that. I did a quick search and didn't find anything about this, so now I'm asking. What is the deal with MIUI on Sensation? It seems that all of the sudden even mentioning it is forbidden. I have seen multiple threads closed, and posts deleted, as if MIUI was off limits all of the sudden. I need a bit of clarification here.
Ref
/showthread.php?t=1258109
Just paste that after the normal url, I can't share links yet. That should clarify a bit
More info in this thread. Seems like this is still a developing issue. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1262625
I know about that whole fiasco, but It was stated clearly by some mod that posting anything MIUI up was against the rules. Now I see no MIUI development what so ever going on, and for the life of me, I can't understand why.

Cannot reply threads

I noticed that I cannot reply in all threads when I logged in successfully. When i click reply, it show like below image.
Enter username & password again. That log in page shows again.
Help me to resolve that problem. Thanks.
====================================================================================================
I cannot reply so i edit my post.
@kriticar: Did you see my post count man? Thanks for your reply.
Well there is a rule that prevents new users to post directly to the developer's forums.
Idea is good, but if you are just a new user not a novice, it's a bit stupid.
Anyway, you have to post 10 posts to the general or q&a forums.
Probably you will end up asking some silly questions until you reach those 10 posts, but rules are rules.
Regards.
May I ask what browser you are using? This could be the problem.

Yes 10 posts so they can be sure you've done your fair share of reading the forums. A lot of redundant posts would be clogging up the blogs without the limit.

I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but don't you have to have ten posts, before it will let you post to every forum/thread?

Hard but true, 10 posts to be allowed
You need to reply to at least ten posts here prior to being eligible to post in general population.
Great way to get everyone actively participating in threads.

Reply limit in DF
Hello. That reply limit to post in the developers section is pure crap.
An idiot can post 100 times with "hello" and then write anything in the developer's forums.
I was searching for an answer to my problem and I only found users with the same problem, asking for help.
I found the solution to their problem on my own (some ROM's are just missing Busybox, etc.), but I cannot post it there because of that rule. Since I'm not an active user of your forums, I guess you're not missing much with me )
Too bad for them. I won't bother to post ten times just to be able to help them.
+1 here )
Enjoy and rethink your rules. Cya.

Actually not, someone who posted "hello" would likely be spotted and reported fairly quickly long before 100 posts and have their posts deleted by one of the mods. The rules are in place to prevent spam for the most part, but it also tries to get people to become active and contributing community members in order to understand the types of posts that belong in the dev threads and which types of posts don't before they start asking all of their support questions there where they don't really belong.
There are lots of other forums out there, but none as good as XDA. Hopefully your attitude about being a community member will be improved if you come back. We will be right here.

[Completed] [Q] signature thread

hello i want to know where can i create a thread or post for my works.....
i created in off topic section but they cloased it ?
Hi,
Before I suggest anything.... Were you not given a reason it was closed? If it was because the moderator said that's not the section you should post in.... Then you could try here,
> Android Development and Hacking > Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting
If it was for another reason.... It will depend what the other reason was.
Honestly, if you post in a general section, as I linked above... Your thread will be quickly buried in the pages and never be seen. The best place to have your work is in the individual sections each subject belongs in. Having them all in one thread is kind of unnecessary and serves no real purpose. Unless it's all for the same device.... In which case, that devices general section is best.
Thanks!
---------- Post added at 06:03 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:00 PM ----------
You can also use your profile signature for links to your threads. But try to keep it brief. Overly large signatures are annoying to many. ?

Thats the point thread closed without any reason and thanks I will try there
Sorry, this is the section I meant for you to try posting in.. general, not Q&A...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/general
Again, your thread will slip away in the pages though fairly quickly. Just having the individual works where they belong is best. In their device sections.
Unless someone searches xda on your specific member name, they likely won't ever find your post of collective works.
But that's just my 2 cents. ?
---------- Post added at 10:04 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:03 PM ----------
Oh, and it could get closed again too.
I'm guessing for exactly the reason I just said above. It's not of much use. Sorry. ?
