Bluetooth instead of Infered - General Questions and Answers

I had this crazzy idea, dont know if its possible but I look forward to some feed back.
Disconnect the infered transiever and hook up a serial (USB) bluetooth adapter? Would this be possible? My thought was that the infered interface is a serial one, Is this interface that dissimilar to the usb interface?

No, not possible. This has been discussed many, MANY times.

Usb Host?

I am currently trying to get usb host functions to work on my pro (if it is even possible). I am wondering if anyone has some info about this that would point me in the right direction. I found a thread on this board from a few months ago about how to make the usb cable needed. I was specifically wondering if anyone has the drivers and other files needed to make this work. Ultimately I would like to hook my pro to an external touchscreen to create a carputer type setup.
Topic was discussed before - afair there is no such function on TP because of lack of power - with USB Host you need to provide power for device connected to TP.

What about using an external source of power like a usb hub?
i dont believe it's just a power issue
it's been up many many many times the last years
with pretty much all htc devices
if you got it working you'd be the first ever who made it work
on any HTC wm device apart from Athena

How 'bout using a Carputer with touchscreen, and a proggie like EveryWan ??
It may not be a solution for you, but the RedFly adds USB host functionality to the phone paired with it and it works nicely with Touch Pro.

not possible...atleast not atm

So does redfly have usb ports? If it does this might be the solution I was looking for. If it is possible to remove the keyboard or move it out of the way and put the screen in the dash I could use something like this. I like that it uses bluetooth which means less wires to mess around with.
I don't want to give up on usb host on my pro yet though. I have read some people saying it may be possible, I even read on a message board someone saying he got it to work with a different htc phone (I don't recall which phone it was). I have also read some people saying it isn't possible.
The pro is the first smartphone I have ever owned (except for the palm centro I had for 3 weeks). I am new to windows mobile phones and am trying to figure out if people actually looked into it and say it isn't possible or just say it isn't possible without trying it. I am not claiming that it is or isn't possible I am just looking for information about it.

USB 1.1 Connector

Hi, what can i plug on the USB 1.1 connector? Hard drive, card reader, printer,...?
Thank you very much.
You can only use whatever the OS and the hardware supports.
So, a USB pen drive will work fine, as will a hard drive with its own power supply. USB powered hard drives won't work as they draw more current than the device can supply.
You can also connect USB keyboards and mice- even wireless ones work OK.
Printers probably won't work as the OS simply doesn't have the drivers installed, though a printer may work in basic emulation mode (Epson, Deskjet etc).
Cameras may connect OK- depends on the camera. My Nikon connects as it reports itself as an external drive, but my Lumix doesn't, as it needs a special driver.
Thank you very much.
Does anyone know if drivers can be added to the WM6.1 ROM for specific devices? e.g. webcams, digital cameras and digital video cameras?
Thanks.
In general the answer is no
Most developers wouldn't see the expense involved as worthwhile considering the extremely limited market. There are only a handful of WinMo devices that have USB Host capability, and of those, most users would probably not bother with anything more than USB Disk Drives.
I think most digital still cameras would be able to connect as disk drives, but video cameras would probably need a device with a much faster I/O subsystem to be able to accept the video stream.
...and I thought I could get all 'James Bond' by adding a mini web-cam to look under doors and round corners...oh well, back to using a mirror on a stick then.

Probably cheaper and more reliable
Not if it's anything like my last mirror, it was made by microsoft, it kept saying it wasn't compatible with the stick and then going blue!
Hello,
I have found that most bluetooth stuff works ok as well. Bluetooth mouse, keyboards, ect. I bought a great bluetooth mini keyboard with built in mouse pad like on a laptop and its first rate. I plug my athena into the telly, crash on the sofa with a beer and the keyboard. Much better than a laptop
a good rule of thumb is if it needs drivers installing it wont work on the athena. there is a thread somewhere on the Athena site listing everything that people have got to work, well worth a look.
regards
jay
That would be a good list to have. Can you tell me which Athena site it was on please? Also, which BT keyboard are you using?
Thanks, Phil.

The keyboard is an keysonic ACK340BT, got it off ebay, and I cant remember what part the thread was, but try Athena accessories. Try searching peripherals or something like that.

Which HTC phones have normal mini-usb slots?

Hey guys
long story that i wont bore you with but I need to find out a HTC phone that has a normal 5 pin mini-usb slot, uses this for its headphones AND has a break-out cable (3.5mm slot halfway up it for normal headphones).
Can anyone help with this please?
NOTE: I dont want the 11pin ENHANCED mini-usbversion like on the touch-diamond. I want the version with two slanted sides, not one square and one slanted.
I don't think a 5 pin usb could carry audio as well. USB has wires for data+, data-, power+, and power-, and then the audio would need wires for left, right and earth, and another for a mike.
My old wizard had a 5 pin USB, and it had a separate 2.5mm headphone/headset socket.
yeah they can and do, its just the headphones that come with the Acer are S*&t but they do operate over mini-usb.
Thanks though, that probably means the Wizards not setup to pump audio over its mini-usb, i'll avoid that one then
My Uni has it
Thank you. I'll check them out on Ebay
the designers at htc should be clubbed on the head for their enhanced mini usb connector.
3.5mm audio + mini usb - that's what it always should have been.
I cant understand why would you want a standart mini usb if - "standart mini usb" works with "htc enchanted mini usb" --- I personaly have a standart mini usb for my Touch HD to use with PC and enchanted usb for charging it - it doesnt bother me that they are different they both do the same<- or am I missing something?
im just curious!
Lets put a couple of things straight...
1) standard mini-usb absolutely can NOT carry (non-digital) audio, no matter what some people in this thread think/claim. It simply CAN'T BE DONE.
If some device *DOES* have audio over mini-usb plug, then despite its shape, it is NOT USB. I *have* seen devices *misuse* the physical plugs it has.
2) The non-standard plug used by HTC is *fully compatible* with existing USB wires.
3) Because of (1) and (2), there is no use whatsoever for a standard USB plug to be on the device. It simply does not matter that there are extras in the plug.

Wow, jump down the throat there.... nice guy obviously.
I can think of a way it can be done ......

edit:
Would you like to also clarify how any of the 3 mini-usb cables (from various sources) work fine with the phone and PC and then can be swapped out for the Acer headset which is through the same mini-usb port? If it was a non-normal port then as you say, its unlikely the other generic cables would work.....

Do you mean an Enhanced USB will fit in a non-enhanced port? I don't have one spare but they are a physicaly diferent shape....

Agreed (sort of)... just a bit worried that you keep saying "standard" though, you do mean a standard MINI-usb right? But agreed, there is simply no justification for not having a 3.5mm jack .... its madness and a madness not just confined to HTC sadly

I think, if im reading you right, your looking at it the wrong way round
The phone I have has a STANDARD mini usb. I think your saying your phone has an ENHANCED mini usb port (guess that answers the above about them not fitting/fitting). And ENHANCED wont fit in MY STANDARD and the only HTC phones I could find had ENHANCED.
My thinking was that if I could find a HTC that had a 5pin mini-usb, I could try one of those remotes - im getting desperate!

It appears that you use a 3.5mm jack for your audio and not the Mini-usb
I could be wrong as its an old product and the only info I can find is on PDADB. Can any Universal owners confirm this? If it uses a 3.5mm jack for audio then its mini-usb cable is useless to me and I won't bother ordering one.

Yes, you are right
I´m sorry I got confused with the question
The 'enchanted' mini USB is total crap. Just check out the thread about people reporting problems because the looseness caused the little pins to be bent.
HTC should just put in a mini usb for data and power and a 3.5mm for audio.

Ordered this one as its a UK seller and will be much quicker.
However, im now temtped to start my own personal campaign against Acer and keep sending the phone back to them over and over again until they fix the Black Screen Of Death issue.... why do companies release phones with this common fault? Do they not use there own phones? I simply don't believe this can escape QA testing.

Charge Pixel C while using usb audio.

HI all. First post from a long time lurker. I'd like to thank all of you who have provided so much information in these forums.
With USB C on a Pixel C, is it possible to charge while benefitting from USB Audio. I know this was not possible with the old otg standard, but I can not find a satisfying answer or or hardware,
Any information you can proovide to answer the question to simply point my search in the correct direction would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not saying it doesn't work, but I haven't been successful getting USB audio to work with my portable Teac DAC/HA. In fact, connecting to Pixel C via USB type C-to-A cable (included with my N6P) pretty immediately forces reboot. Same DAC works perfectly with N6P and 2015 CB Pixel, although only when connected to the latter's USB 2.0 type A ports. Could be a USB 3.0/3.1 thing? I haven't bothered digging out my old Fiio test that, but considering my luck with the Teac, I'm not hopeful.
Anyone care to chime in? I'm not engineer or much of an audiophile. The lack of information on this subject --specifically as relating to the Pixel C-- is kind of frustrating. I suppose that's the downside to Pixel hardware.... the community's only as good as the number of people who actually buy the da**** things, which unfortunately is most likely going to be rather... limited.

I am so sorry I am beyond late. But during my testing, my DAC will not work as well. I have the TEAC HA-P50 and no luck here. The pixel C is a tricky piece of hardware, and I hope the devs get the functionality out of it.

Split cable for OTG and charging phone? (+audio would be nice)

I would like to be able to connect a pendrive to the phone and charge it at the same time. Audio out simultaneously would be even nicer. But I can't seem to find anything but split cables that provide power to the peripheral you connect, not the phone.

Great, thanks! From the description it seems it might work, although it does not specify that the power is delivered to the usb-c device instead of the peripheral.

Yes, ebay and aliexpress are ful of them. Searching for usb-c audiocharging yields a lot of results. All of them should work wih the Mi Mix 2, as the Mi Mix 2 outputs analogue audio on the usb c port. But mic suport might vary, so you should read the description carefully if you need that.
