Hi Everyone I have a major issue with Whatsapp, has stopped backing up locally and the last backup was a month ago and drive backups do not work. - General Questions and Answers

Hi . I have a major issue. Whatsapp has stopped backing up locally and the last backup was a month ago and drive backups do not work. It keeps saying unable to create backup. It keeps saying unable to create backup. Please find screenshot attached there is no new crypt file other than old outdated ones and also whatsapp is taking way more storage than it should be. It should only consume 12gb including those two files in databases but it is taking over 50gb so my plan was to uninstall and reinstall but backups are not working which is risky. Please find all the screenshots attached.

[APP][2.3+][FREE] Pocket Enigma

Hi All,
I'd like to present to you my new app. It's a message crytping app, which you can use to encrytp/decrypt all kinds of text communication you use (text messages, emails, messengers, private notes and whatever else you want). Safety was my biggest goal, while creating this app and I think I succeded. The app is using unique crypting algorithm, based on the characters from the password you enter. Each password will generate different crypting algorithm. The password is not limited and you can use as many passwords, as you like to encrypt one message. This solution creates infinite number of crypting possibilities and makes the crypted message quite impossible to decrypt. Please feel free to comment.

Hi,
Yes both persons (encrypting and decrypting) need to have the app installed.
Hi, i have another question;
Is the application storing messages or passwords somewhere (on server or locally on device)? If yes, for how long?

Hi,
No, the application doesn't store any data. No servers are in use, it can work completely offline.

Excellent app mate, are there any possibility to see which sentences or phrases are repeated in the chats?
Sent from my XT1042 using XDA-Developers mobile app
Glad that you like it, that's always nice to hear.
As for the sentences and phrases, while it would theoretically be possible to add such a feature, it would require a lot of computing power (at least a lot more than a modern smartphone has) to do this in a reasonable amount of time. As you might have noticed it already takes a little while to analyze larger chats and this would make that time even longer.

Slimming down the WhatsApp storage folder. Easy guide.

Well, first and foremost this is a self-cooked guide mainly aimed for devices with little storage and/or anyone interested for the sake of it.
A couple months ago I sent an email to WhatsApp customer support complaining about the huge size of the WhatsApp/Databases folder, and why the FLICK there was a remote need for 7 friggin' copies of the chat databases.

After dodgeing the automatic answering bot, I re-sent my question (how to prevent WhatsApp from keeping the last 7 days of database backups) over a request number email address I was submitted.
Suffice to say, as I admitted to be a rooted user, this is all the moron at the other side had to say:
Hi,
Thanks for your message.
It appears that your device is rooted. We are sorry, but we don’t support rooted devices and do not answer tickets from rooted devices. We understand the reasons behind rooting a device, but please be aware that any new configuration that is a result of rooting may conflict with WhatsApp.
To add to this, rooted devices do not allow the WhatsApp security model to function as intended and your messages will not be protected by end-to-end encryption.
If you wish to…
Yeah, I love you too.
0K fellows, this is as easy as it gets. Besides slimming down your WhatsApp/Media folders as you may wish, this is my trick to prevent WhatsApp from using a fμckload of storage on its WhatsApp/Databases folder:
Delete the WhatsApp/Databases folder. :good:
Now, create a file named Databases in the WhatsApp folder. This prevents WhatsApp from being able to re-create such folder again.
See the attached thumbnail.
My WhatsApp folder is now very slim, and I miss nothing. :fingers-crossed:
Cheers my dears

Unable to view old messages

Hi, I recently got the XZ premium and I transferred all my messages from the old phone via the Xperia transfer app. However I'm having difficulty viewing messages older than July 2016 on the default android messages app however other 3rd party apps I can view fine.
Here's what it looks like:

It continually stays grey blank.
Any suggestions to get the old sms messages to load?
Try using SMS Backup and Restore. It has, I believe, two methods for backing up and restoring. One method is to use the app itself for messaging and the other is for using a different app like you are trying to use. The size of the backup will have an effect on the viability of the messages also. This is one area in Android that is still not resolved properly...the transferring of text messages. YMMV
