Hello, I am on a rooted OnePlus 8T with Pixel Experience 13+. I unlocked bootloader, rooted and installed the ROM a few weeks ago. From that day, videos on Google Photos are lagging. Any type of video! If I play a video on the app, the audio plays smoothly, the seconds bar also scrolls correctly 10.0.0.0.1 192.168.1.254 . It's just the image that sometimes (about every 2/3s) has some slowdown/jerky. Could you please help me? I alredy tried to uninstall, clear the cache, the data...
Even Google hasn't a solution.
Anyway: Look inside here

I'm used to this issue on my 3 months old Galaxy Tab S, it has never worked as expected showing the maximum 1440p resolution until you clear YouTube cache and data, force close it, disable it Uninstalling updates, once this is done then you go to Play Store and look for YouTube, it should shows Enable, and one you enable it, and update to latest version, then you have your full resolution options including 1440p. Sad thing is that everytime there is a new YouTube update we need to do the same again.
I did the same steps on my Z3 just to see that it didn't work, so I went back to apps and saw that there are 2 more apps directly related to YouTube, I already have disabled Live On YouTube as I tried to use it and never weekend and then I realized that I'll never use it again. Anyway, I decided to do the same steps mentioned above but this time I also disabled the 2 YouTube extensions that are there, went back to the Play Store and Enabled and updated YouTube and when I went back to the app there are all the options including 1080p, one thing though, it seems to not stay skeeter by default, just select it and then re-start the video and you will see it on 1080p.
I re-enabled the 2 YouTube Extensions back just to see if it breaks it again but it seems that it still working so that's good news.
I hope you can fix it with this information, at least until the next YouTube update.
Hey erasat, thanks for the info.
Just tried, but I didnt understand which apps you meants by "2 more apps directly related to youtube"? - the Live On youtube & the youtube app itself? is that what you meant, or is there one more?

On my D6633 with latest Custom HK firmware, there are 2 apps named, YouTube extension and YouTube Karaoke extension in addition to the Live On Youtube that like I mentioned was disabled already.
There was a Youtube update last night, for my surprise and contrary to my Galaxy Tab S, the 1080p settings survived. So even better.
Sadly after Tuesday's update it seems that this is no longer working, just like it happens in my Galaxy Tab S. I've been doing the same steps I've done a lot of times now and what I described above and this time is no longer working, Highest resolution I can choose from now is 720p. Really frustrating...
Videos play fine when on the phone through Video Player.
If I load Google Photos, play a video there, the playback is crazy jerky. Same video on google photos app on iOS does not do it.
Can't recall having the problem on OxygenOS but was wondering if anyone else had this issue before going back to O2 (1.01 broke touchscreen for me)
Thanks
Simpler request:
Could someone running 12.1 tell me if video is choppy in google photos please? Wish to see if the problem is on my end or an issue with Google Photos.
Many thanks!
Wiped, re-flashed Oxygen OS 1.0 (not 1.01), still same problem with Google Photos video playback. Choppy. The same videos are not choppy on iOS nor on desktop website (in chrome).
Perhaps a bug with Google Photos app?
I have this problem too. I hadn't tried the stock gallery app until I saw this post. It worked fine.
I wonder is its just oneplus related or dies it occur on other phones too?

Searching the web, saw that many users have issue on nexus devices (6 and 10). Seems like the latest versions of Google Photos are to blame. Haven't tried uninstalling current ver and installing old one through apkmirror yet to confirm.
I can confirm this issue.
OPO COS12.1, Google photos last version (1.4.).
Had the same problem on COS12.
When I revert photos app to version 1.0.1 the video plays fine.
Definitely photos app problem.
I will stick to 1.0.1 version of the app until there is an improvement in the app itself.
I'm currently having a problem. The problem is simple ,
I can't play any youtube videos only on the official YouTube app and it always shows " there was a problem while playing, touch to retry" it doesn't matter how much I touched, it wouldn't load the video ,
the weird thing is this bug only happens in lollipop 5.1.1 and 5.02 sony based rom whether it's STOCK or A CUSTOM ROM and this problem DOES NOT happen in AOSP CM12 etc.
I thought this is caused by youtube adaway with xposed but the fact is it's not .
I've tried it without xposed and I've tried to wipe the phone and done a clean install and it still wouldn't play the videos. It could play a video on YouTube after a reboot but only for approximately about 5 minutes of playing YouTube videos .
After that the bug would come out again.
However I could play YouTube videos on OG YouTube with the xposed module and in chrome without any problems. I'm confused...

Lately it seems that my stock Note 5 plays videos once out of every 5-6 tries. It struggles to play videos I recorded too. Most of the time when I try to play a YouTube video it will play the first few frames then starts to stutter then stop playing altogether. I thought it was a YouTube thing so I uninstalled it's updates, cleared data and disabled it, then re-enabled it, updated it and still had issues. I also have noticed I have the same issue with Snapchat, Facebook, TheCHIVE and other apps (basically any videos it tries to play). I'm running stock 5.1.1. I read somewhere about going into developer settings and turning off NuPlayer and use AwesomePlayer instead. I tried that but it yielded the same result. Does anyone have any other ideas? I really don't want to wipe the phone.

I have already post there, but there hasnt been a response. I dont think its a specific device issue. It seems to be more of an OS issue. There has to be some things to attempt to fix this...
Hi guys.
Having an issue running OGYouTube and YouTube Vanced in background.
I was initially able to run OGYouTube in background for a period of time before it would randomly close, currently liasing with Huawei support on that one as I believe that is an EMUI issue.
However... Since yesterday I have not been able to play OGYouTube in the background at all.
Decided to remove it, as I really need it to be able to play in background and tried YouTube Vanced instead.
And I'm getting the same issue, every time I try to shut the screen off it pauses the app and won't play again until I manually click play.
So, has YouTube changed something recently to stop these apps playing in the background or am I extremely unlucky?
I've changed all the background and battery settings to no avail.
Hope you guys can help, this is a real deal breaker for me and am seriously considering going to another brand after this contract is over.
Found a bug that sort of fixes this temporarily.
If I am able bug the player out so the video or pip video is black I am now able to play it with the screen off... But once restarting YouTube vanced, it no longer works...
