The galaxy watch 4 may just look like a normal smartwatch but the possibilities are endless. You can unlock the possibilities through the power of adb. What do you think about this?

Hello, I read up some articles about gear 2 being able to run android apps with the help of SDK. Is this true? Are there any tutorials on how to achieve this? I would love to get some games on my gear 2 but there are pretty much none in the samsung store while there are a tons of it in the android store. Makes me feel the gear 2 is obsolete.

The Gear 2 and the Gear S2 both run the Tizen OS. This is branch of Android, but isn't Android.
It works very well for a watch OS. It isn't obsolete, but doesn't have as many apps as Android Wear.
I don't play games - not on PC, not on my phone and don't have a game system, so that isn't a reason for me to choose a watch. To each his own.
It is a great watch. The correct size for a watch, does what I want a watch to do, and the rotating bezel makes it the best user interface.

Yes I totally agree with you, it is a very well made watch, and a comfortable size unlike others that are over sized. I just think that the OS is limiting what the watch can do. I mean if this watch was on a android OS it'd be a lot more useful and would probably be the best watch out there hands down. It is that limiting fact that made the watch *less powerful than android watches* because apps are a huge part of smart gadgets.

Android's watch OS is Android wear, and the Apps for that, while more numerous then tizen, don't generally work when not with in range of your paired phone. To me that makes it less useful.

I found a video of this guy that got subway surfer running on the samsung gear, while it might be more difficult with the gear s2 but would it be possible to do something like this?

I thought the original Gear was a true Android device, and that Samsung switched to Tizen when they brought out the Gear S2 models. If so, this would likely explain why Android games might be made to work on the older model and not on the newer.

How do I connect the Samsung Gear 2 Neo to my Nexus 6P?I don't want to use the Android wear port simply because I want to have calls on my watch working. I've installed the Samsung Gear app from the Google Play Store but it doesn't find my device. Please help.?
It has been stated many times all over this forum that it's not possible to synchronize a non samsung MM phone with a gear 2 running tizen. If you want to have calls on your watch you should buy a Samsung, quite simple.

I decompiled the gear manager app from the Google play store and it has a lot of strings about the gear 2. I don't understand why would they even bother about that if they don't want you to connect it to the phone...
Good Morning Everybody,
So I am now rocking an Asus Zenwatch 3 and since the Android Wear 2.0 update is not coming, I am trying to get myself a new smartwatch.
I am thinking either to buy the Gear S3 or to stay on Android Wear 2.0 and going for the Huawei Watch 2 Classic or LG Watch Style.
My phone is not a Samsung and I don't intend in getting one soon, I currently have the Google Pixel XL and in a couple of days switching to the Blackberry Keyone.
Question, is this watch worthed and useful?
Does it work well with a non Samsung Device?
How's Tizen compare to Android Wear?
Thanks
The whole functionality you'll only get with a Samsung phone from 4.3/4.4. (Samsung Store/Pay, watch updates and so on often failes on different android-phones)
Some Android-phones are completely not supported (not only because of root and custom roms..), like my Mediapad X2...

(AndroidWear is working fine on my phone, without any limitations, also 2.0 update with my Huawei Watch 1)
I switched from using an LG to a Samsung phone with the S3.There was very little additional functionality gained. Here's a chart that compares all the features across Samsung, Android, and iOS devices.

Thank you guys
Well, I'm using it with the Blackberry Priv and I don't have any issues at all. It is connected via Bluetooth. I logs my walks, hikes and bike rides and I can view the info on the watch or in the S-health app on the Priv. I can update or install apps and watch faces from the Priv. I have been using S-pay which I still find weirdly fun to do!!!! But the Priv still runs Marshmallow. I don't know any details but there are or may be issues with Nougat on some aspects of the Gear S3 (others can let you know if S-pay works).
I'm also active on the Crackberry forum and there have been a few discussions of the Gear S3 there. There's also a Keyone thread and maybe you could ask for info.

Thank you. I will do
I'm using the S3 with a Moto G4 and everything works with no restrictions. Don't feel like you need a Samsung phone to use all the features.

What does the comment help all those who do not have all the functions with his android phone?
Or what is the general benefit of this observation?
Additionally, the thread creator has no Moto G4 -
if I am not wrong
I have been using Samsung Galaxy Note 5 as the carrier with earlier a Gear S2 and now Gear S3 Frontier (and Moto 360 prior to the Gear watches), and absolutely love my S3.
The key aspects of the watch which I find very useful - The rotating dial and unique interface, excellent battery, nice in built S-Health, Samsung-Pay, etc should work with all Android phones. With Gear app and S-Health app available in Google App-store, anyone with an Android phone can install them and make use of them.
The other features I also like very much is ability to sync all messages and email on the S3 itself since I use the Samsung native messaging and email app on my Note5. This I believe will be the only things not available with other Android devices.
Overall - The message/email syncing, S-Pay from wrist, decent stock health tracking app, very intuitive and nice interface with rotating bezel, and extremely competitive battery life (I get 4 days with Always on Display off) has made me absolutely adore the S3.
I got my Samsung Gear 2 (Camera + IR) watch when I had my Note 4. I sold my Note 4 hoping to use the Gear 2 on a non-Samsung Android phone but was bitterly disappointed. I was told the Gear 2 needed to be paired with a Samsung Phone.
I still like the Gear 2 because of the Camera & IR. I am upgrading to a Note8 soon. I just want to confirm that the Gear 2 works with the Note8, else I will probably add a smart watch to my order (I hope to just keep the Gear 2).
Anyone successfully paired and using the Gear 2 with the Note8 and getting notifications on the watch?
Thanks in advance for your response!
Yes, my Gear 2 (flashed to run Tizen) works with my T-Mobile branded Note 8. Pictures taken with the Gear 2 upload automatically to the Note 8. I'm not sure what you may be referring to by "IR." The watch and phone pair with Bluetooth and there is no Infrared on the Note 8. Let me know what you're after and I see what I can find.
IR refers to the Infra Red remote control on the Watch. I have stock Tizen running on my Gear 2 so I want to use the Infra Red remote on the watch.
I see my local phone stores have the Note8 on display for customers to demo. I will carry the watch to the store and see if it could pair successfully to their Notes and I can see notifications. Hopefully I can signin to my Samsung Account from the demo phones in the store... and hopefully I can remove everything after.
Yes, I had forgotten about the IR function and app on the Gear 2 as I don't use it. The Note 8 does not have any IR functionality, but I can't imagine that the Note 8 will in anyway interfere with that functionality on the Gear 2.
Yes, the Gear 2 is dated. However, it's the camera and it's convenience (especially when traveling) that keeps me hanging on to it!
I have the Gear 2 and the Note 8 phone, and can say they do pair just fine. Most of the watches functionality works as normal, but since the Note 8 phone has Bixby, and not S voice, no voice input on the watch works at all. This is just Samsung abandoning their tech like always, because the S2, and S3 got updated to work with S voice onboard the watch, because of the lack of the app on the phone.
I have a rooted gear 2 that I had been using with my LG G4, I just got an unlocked Note 8 and I have been having trouble pairing it. I've been trying to do it through the Android Wear app, should I reset it and try again through the Samsung software?

Not sure if you're running Android or Tizen. I upgraded to Tizen when it became available from Samsung.
Never tried to pair with the Android Wear app. However, when you pair the watch with a new phone you have no choice but to factory reset the watch.

I'm using Tizen, however my phone doesn't see the watch at all and neither does the gear 2 see the note.
Here's what worked for me:
1. Install the Samsung Gear app on the Note 8
2. Enable Bluetooth on the Note 8
3. Startup the Gear app on the Note 8 and begin the pairing process by selecting "Connect new Gear"
4. Factory reset the Gear 2 and wait for it to finish resetting.
5. You may need to restart the pairing process in the Note 8 Gear app if it takes too long.
Good luck.
Hello everybody,
Is there a way to use the Galaxy Watch 4 with an iPhone?
Maybe to install another Rom on the Watch to make it to an Galaxy Watch 3 or something else to use it with an iPhone.
Sorry if the question has already been asked. Haven't found anything about it.
Thanks
