Question Full immersive mode?? - Google Pixel 7a

Just got 7a from google store online (no carrier lock), coming from OP7 pro on Android 10 been running without navigation pill or status bar... (well it was invisible? if icons were hidden) used System UI tuner for that phone.
Seems every command I want to use in System UI tuner is broken in Android 13 on this 7a device because I can't get immersive mode or transparent "pill" nav to work...
Read ADB commands stopped doing these commands a while back as well. I don't care to do much more to the phone but get immersive full use of screen. I would also like to get rid of date and time on home screen and the google widget at the bottom of home screen BUT not a priority.
Haven't had to root a phone in ages.... is this the only way I am going to accomplish this? If so is there a guide to follow to get this end result? Apparently I'm a born again noob.
Thank you to anyone for insight

Rooting is easy. You can check the PixelFlasher tool here on XDA. And using Xposed + AOSP mods will do the trick.

[Q] A few questions

Hi all
I have removed the xposed framework and gravity box from my Nexus 5 as I have switched to the ART runtime as I was fed up with poor battery life.
A few key features I am really missing.
Status bar brightness change (like CM)
Advanced volume control where when you push the hardware volume keys you get the media slider too
Volume key hold down to skip track with display off
Quick settings from dragging on right side of status bar (not silly two finger Kk style)
Battery percentage number always displayed
Resizing the horrendsly massive navigation bar which takes all screen space up
There were more things but those were the main...
My Nexus 5 is rooted and unlocked. I don't mind if I have to use adb to do some of the above or flash etc. I'd like to stick to the standard ROM. I'd also not like to install a million third party apps which also require resources and permissions...
Any suggestions? Does Android L improve on the above?
Thanks very much
Laurence
These are custom features. Xposed was the easiest way to get them. Finding a custom ROM is the other way.
Either Xposed or a Custom ROM. Xposed won't work with ART.
I know that's the problem . I wanted to keep stock but there is just far too many lacking features - come on Google give the advanced users a few more options - even if you hide it away...
I'll have to flash the Cyanogenmod ROM. I see that they have the M8 (4.4.4 ) version of CM 11 which is which I think has all the features I need and more. Maybe a good thing anyway!
I think Android L has a few problems reading up on it for now... I know it is a developer preview anyway.
Thanks
Laurence

[APP][5.0+] Taskbar - PC-style productivity for Android

Taskbar puts a start menu and recent apps tray on top of your screen that's accessible at any time, increasing your productivity and turning your Android tablet (or phone) into a real multitasking machine!
On devices running Android 7.0+, Taskbar can also launch apps in freeform windows for a PC-like experience! No root required! (see below for instructions)
Taskbar is also fully supported on Chrome OS - use Taskbar as a secondary Android app launcher on your Chromebook!
Features
• Start menu - shows you all applications installed on the device, configurable as a list or as a grid
• Recent apps tray - shows your most recently used apps and lets you easily switch between them
• Collapsible and hideable - show it when you need it, hide it when you don't
• Many different configuration options - customize Taskbar however you want
• Pin favorite apps or block the ones you don't want to see
• Designed with keyboard and mouse in mind
• 100% free, open source, and no ads
Freeform window mode (Android 7.0+)
Taskbar lets you launch apps in freeform floating windows on Android 7.0+ devices. No root access is required, although Android 8.0+ devices require an adb shell command to be run during initial setup.
Simply follow these steps to configure your device for launching apps in freeform mode:
1. Check the box for "Freeform window support" inside the Taskbar app
2. Follow the directions that appear in the pop-up to enable the proper settings on your device (one-time setup)
3. Go to your device's recent apps page and clear all recent apps
4. Start Taskbar, then select an app to launch it in a freeform window
For more information and detailed instructions, click "Help & instructions for freeform mode" inside the Taskbar app.
Download
• Download Taskbar on the Play Store
• Download Taskbar on F-Droid
It's about time I made an xda thread for this  Feedback is appreciated!

Good work bro keep it up. Installed it and enjoying the ride as it's great concept as launcher's & dock is useless now . Issues and suggestions Will be post if any.
Thanks for the app.

This is an amazing app whose concept can revolutionize the android experience. With KK I used to download Xposed and install XHaloFloatingWindow and Floating notifications just to mimic a PC desktop. Now I can do something similar with this app and Nougat! Thanks, OP!
It would be great if the Taskbar overlay can support the Extended Desktop feature. I use an unofficial build of LineageOS, and when you open an app in a freeform window, the nav bar appears and it doesn't hide. And when you close all windows, the overlay and the nav bar stay, making it impossible to use, for example, gestures in your home screen. I use Nova Launcher, and in order to open the app drawer, I use a double tap gesture. So I have to go to the Taskbar settings, disable it, and then I can access my app drawer as usual. Is it possible for the overlay to automatically close when there are no freeform windows opened?
Also, is there a way to implement a shortcut to toggle off the taskbar without opening the app? Like greenify hibernation, that can be even set with a gesture in nova.
If the overlay and nav bar issues can be fixed, and we can somehow enable a shortcut use the taskbar whenever we want, this is going to be my favorite app from now on ?
Thanks again, OP. I hope this feedback helps!

Unfortunately, due to System UI restrictions that Google has put in place for multi-window mode, hiding the status/navigation bars is not possible while apps are running in freeform mode. What you could do, though, is disable the navigation bar entirely (through build.prop) and then use an app such as Simple Control to provide an alternate implementation of the software keys.
Taskbar staying open even after all freeform mode windows have been closed is by design. If it's not set as your default launcher, though, you can still press the home button to collapse Taskbar and exit freeform mode. (You're not the only one that has asked about this, so I might make this an option in a future version )
You can already turn off the Taskbar by either: pressing the "Quit" button in the notification, or by long-pressing the app drawer icon and selecting "Quit". I already have a "Start Taskbar" homescreen shortcut for Android 7.1+ devices - perhaps I should change this to an on/off toggle instead?

Perfect, I'll use a third-party nav bar instead, I forgot it was possible to disable the system one via build.prop.

A toggle is a great idea, and if in the future it's possible to add support so it can be set with a Nova gesture or a similar app, we won't need a dock anymore ?
Another thing I saw while checking the app was that when you move any window to one side of the screen it automatically pins like in split mode. Is there a way to avoid this? I'm not completely sure, but through the developer options it was possible to disable this. However, I cannot find it anymore.

I was using this wonderful app for awhile as my main launcher. The problem I ran into was Hangouts Dialer wouldn't launch with this app installed. Think it was some issue with drawing on top conflicting.

No it's not possible to disable that. It's built-in behavior of Android.

Hmm, interesting, I use Hangouts Dialer and haven't had any issues using it with Taskbar. I'll investigate this a bit more though.

I tested the new version and it works with Hangouts Dialer. Issue now is my power button doesn't work with Taskbar as home launcher. If I enter an app it works fine but on the homescreen it doesn't. If my phone falls asleep on homescreen, I can't turn it back on without rebooting.

The power button issue is a ROM-specific bug that has been reported on OnePlus devices, and also devices running CyanogenMod/Lineage OS. It's an issue with freeform mode itself, unfortunately, and not with Taskbar.

I am using a CM based rom. I will turn off freeform.
--Feature request--
Please add an option to disable the start button entirely so it can be used purely as a system wide dock or resents bar only.
Please add icon spacing options so we can centre icons etc when using the "fill white space" option. either manual padding or various presets. also aligning them left/centre/right would be nice also.
Thanks and keep up the great work.
Also, any thoughts to a Kitkat compatible version? We don't need free-form windows, but surely the overlay taskbar would work just fine on kitkat. I ask because Taskbar is extremely useful for tablets, yet most tablets are still running pre-lollipp android versions.

Assuming you're talking about the navigation bar icons, yes, more customization options for them is something I plan on adding.
As for compatibility with Android 4.x devices, this is something I have actually investigated adding before. There are a few issues with adding support for 4.x, though, that I would have to work around before I consider supporting those versions:
The app is pretty tightly built around APIs that were only added in 5.0, such as UsageStatsManager and LauncherApps
The app also takes advantage of the Material theme for context menus, and I have not been able to get the context menus to look correct on Android 4.x devices using AppCompat
More testing would be involved on my end if I were to support 4.x devices in addition to 5.0+

Understood. I'll keep my fingers crossed. It's the one thing I'm missing from my kitkat tablet to make it truly awesome.

Fantastic app( but for nougat only...I am talking about freeform). It needs the following two features and it will be unbeatable:
1. Option to open notifications in freeform/floating like hover or halo and
2. All the features working below nougat(at least lollipop)also. Thanks for reading.
Is it possible to trigger the taskbar with on screen navbar? Maybe with tasker and custom navbar app?
Excellent app - restored a better version of windows than were on my Lenovo Yoga Book. If I click on the maximise window button so that it fills the screen, I can't see a way to rewindow the same app?
is there any hope of getting live wallpaper support added to this app?
I would absolutely adore the ability to use this as my Launcher with KLWP.
But I don't know if that is even possible... :/
I know this thread is pretty old now, but not sure where else to put this.
With taskbar installed as a system app, it's possible to have it detect only the running apps (found this out thanks to bliss OS), however, i am unable to get a list of running apps on Android 9 MIUI 10, it just remains blank, is this a bug in the app, or an issue with MIUI (rooted with magisk, app has been manually moved into /system/app)

Is there a way to get a pixel like status bar

Someone just gave me their old realme 2 pro I saw that the specs of the device they are pretty simlar to the pixel 3a. So there was just one catch I cannot root the phone . So is there a way to get a pixel like status bar on a non rooted realme ui 1.0 device. These are some features I really want
1.(most important) it should blend in with my wallpaper so it dosent look like
It's not ment to be there
2. It should work with powershade as to get a custom notification panel I have been using powershade
3.(not entirely important) but it would be helpful if I dosent contain malware or a virus (adware is fine)
Android's Statusbar is managed by Android's SystemUI, hence you'ld have to replace existing SystemUI by a version that matches your needs.

Is there *ANY* A11/A12 way to hide/free the status bar space?

Hi,
I got a used OnePlus 7T Pro, because it was a better choice for me in many ways than new phones. I just absolutely love the screen.
But I was trying to find out, how to make actually everything fully use it. Afaik there used to be a way on A10, that is no longer working.
So I searched the whole week how to hide the status bar, and in the end decided to even root and try various Magisk modules, or EdXposed/GravityBox stuff, pretty much anything I could find because many people reported "status bar height = 0" to do the job. But it really doesn't.
It allows to hide the *contents* of the status bar, BUT the space there is still covered by an ugly bar that apps (browser, whatsapp, anything) aren't drawing over. And that looks even worse than having clock+battery present honestly :'(
So I am desperately trying to search for ANY way to accomplish a fullscreen experience. Does anyone know of one?
I actually like the stock OxygenOS personally. But at this point, I'm willing to hop on any good quality custom rom that would allow it.
(I am even considering somehow downgrading to A10, but would absolutely prefer not to).
I can't believe people here aren't all over this / that everyone with 7/7T pro didn't already do everything in their power to accomplish a full system-wide fullscreen experience. So, desperately pleading anyone, is there some Rom/Mod/Module allowing this?
Thanks
Oh, one additional thing: I noticed, that when changing the option under
Settings -> Developer -> Display Cutout
The status bar (and the reserved space around it) actually does change and move up/down for various options. The "Waterfall Cutout" makes the bar significantly narrower, and apps are properly respecting it (= being drawn a bit higher) too. Which gives me some hope.
There is an installable Magisk module called "None Display Cutout" from here:
[Remove display cutout][ROOT] Full screen 21:9 for apps in landscape, incl Netflix.
Requirements: Magisk root. Download and install the "None Display Cutout" in the Magisk managers module repo. It will add an option in developer settings display cutout options, "No Display Cutout". Choose it, and apps, including netflix, will...

These just don't try to accomplish complete status bar disappearance, but they touch on the "Display Cutout" settings in some way. So they *could... maybe* be modified to make the status bar completely disappear? Since they alter the overall display bounds even on Android 11 successfully.
Honestly, those 2 are the most promising directions I stumbled upon, but I personally don't know how to modify them to do what I want (= shrink the whole status bar area to 0 pretty much)
/// I reposted this to OnePlus 7T Pro (I am sorry I originally did not notice 7Pro and 7TPro have different categories), here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...ay-to-hide-free-the-status-bar-space.4395539/
But if allowed, I'd rather have the thread left visible even here in "7 Pro", since I believe the solution would work on both and usually the semi-solutions I stumbled upon were from "7 Pro" devices too.

Android 12 - horrible UI change

Greetings everyone,
I've recently bought a new phone with android 12 preinstalled ( Xperia 5 II ) and I can't express how ugly and awfully that UI is being designed.
On top of that lack of customization is getting on my nerves as well as some of the functionalities, despite how it looks this is not only a rant, I really want your help.
-Notification bar ( completely reworked, swiping once shows only 4 HUGE tiles instead of 6 as it should be, and swiping twice 8 instead of 9)
-Notification Tile toggles ( lack of wifi, mobile data, nfc, 3G/4G+ switch toggle)
-Recent apps Tab ( checking overview tab shows apps vertically positioned, each taking almost full screen preview and having to navigate through all of them to reach CLEAR ALL)
-Unable to set main Homescreen page
I've 'fixed' some things to my liking by using different launcher, adb to restore wifi, data toggles(functional but not showing whether it's pressed or not) and still got some things that I'm stuck with.
With all that said my question is: What would my options here be? Could I 'flash' (replace) only the UI version without rooting ( that was maybe too stupid of a question but I'm wondering)
Is it possible that I rollback to A11 or even force upgrade to A13 (phone wont get any further updates past A12) and retrieve functions mentioned above? (If I go on this path would only use official android stock version for my device, not rooting, hopefully without losing any functionalities)
Please give me your thoughts on this as I would be very grateful for every reply!
Thanks in advance!
