Question Google Fi Pixel Subscription - Pixel 7a - Google Pixel 7a

I'm not able to watch Google I/O today but I am curious about how long after they announce the Pixel 7a will it be until replaces the Pixel 6a as part of the $15 Pixel Subscription. Not Pixel Pass, just the regular subscription with Google Fi. I want to upgrade my mothers phone for Mothers Day and was going to go the subscription route this time so she gets new phones every 2 years but I dont want to get the 6a with the 7a being announced today.
If anyone sees the answer during I/O or recalls what happened previous launches can you let me know?
Thanks

Are you buying the pixel 2 ?

My pixel works fine along with my Nexus 5x and 6. With the new pixel 2 around the corner are you buying it? I hate to be the stereotypical American who consumes in excess and buys things they don't need but I know ill resist for a month or 2 then cave in.

I'm getting sucked into reading the stories about the pixel 2. If I was practical, it would be hard to justify a new phone. What new features do I need that won't come from a software update? I do wish I had 64 gigs. Recently had to factory reset and that got me back down to 26 gigs used.

Of course I'm going to get it. However, there are a bunch of caveats and prerequisites in order to justify the purchase. And naturally a few different scenarios. Gift the Pixel to a family member that has a crappy S5 or any other Samsung device, sell it on Swappa, use it as a backup device in case something goes wrong with the Pixel 2 and you need to wait for a replacement, stuff like that. Personally, I'm in for the gifting and then it's justified right off the bat even though I still have a year left to pay it off. But the family member is on my VZW account so nothing it really changed in that regard. (wow, that S5 is a piece of junk, Yes, that's for all you Sammy trolls)
Then there's the price. I only paid $240 for the Pixel in the wee hours of Black Friday. I had a chance to depixel8 the device but chose not to. I had no intention of ever unlocking the bootloader or rooting so I just took the updates. I'd do the same thing here if the price were the same. Google never had a black Friday deal and I could not justify paying 7 bills since my 5x was working perfectly and still does. (running Android O beta, locked bootloader on that too) Bottom line for me is never buy it on any other day than BF and get the best price possible, locked or not. I fully expect VZW to keep the bl locked and I don't care if I can get the phone for $300 or close to it. I won't spend a nickel over $400 tax included. Since the Pixel and the XL are working so well and a lot of people are on a 2 year installment plan of sorts, I believe they will have some discounts on it during the holiday season. Just keep your eyes peeled since the deals are strictly for black Friday hours only. Come Saturday the deals are off the table.
PS I should save this post to remind myself of rational thought when the device is released.
I'm considering upgrading to a larger screen but I just switched to t-mobile and sadly Google only offers the Pixels to Verizon for resale. So unless I can get one on device payments I'll probably stick with my Pixel.
I can understand buying the Pixel over the Nexus. The Nexus always had that element that caused it to get laggy over time and stutter, but the Pixel is a massive step from the previous nexus 5x I had. All my phone are in working condition and i actually offered to loan someone whose phone stopped working my Nexus 5X.
The Pixel though hasent given me any issues. I think at the very least I'll wait until next year to buy it. It seems like the first batch of phones tend to have issues. I remember the first Pixels has that crackling speaker issue, but since this one actually works well I'll have to think about it myself. If I do maybe not until 2018
They are going to have to really nail it to get me to upgrade right away. This is a great phone.
Not sure yet, nothing wrong with this one, might wait for the pixel 3, this is just a great phone

I'd also expect the Verizon Pixel 2 to have deals during Black Friday. There are typically also good offers on carrier phones at times during November and December. I could have saved a bit by waiting longer to buy. I think the best offer in 2016 only lasted a few days.

Many of the Verizon offers have generally trended towards bill credits recently, where you have to buy their service for two years to get the price reduction, yet the Verizon S8 had a Device Payment Plan offer last month where the financed price was reported as $300+ less than retail.

No
Probably will wait until the 3, because my 1 is still in great shape
So got to add BT headphones to the mix too. Been wanting a pair anyway, this will probably force my hand. I have Grado now and they are amazing. I don't think they make BT yet so does anyone have some that are in the 100-200 range that are just killer?
I personally don't use bluetooth. Based on the renderings, I think I'll definitely wait at least for a bit. If it turns out to be just the Pixel with a few enhancements then it will be easier to pass. I was hoping for front facing speakers, but dosent seem to be happening. Also they are removing the headphone jack which I like. Something minor but should start being standard.....waterproofing, hopefully this new one is officially water resistant/proof.
It looks like they will have several versions or atleast 2 which is good. Everthing now seems to be 5.5"+, I cannot do these jumbo sized phones, I'm probably the only one, but I don't like excessively large phones. Hence why I got the small pixel.
Pixel 2 will be 5". As for BT I'd like to get rid of the cord if fidelity is as good. Waterproofing is not minor! Lol. That's almost a prerequisite at this point.

I'll have to probably update this post. If Google follows the Note 8 and prices the Pixel 2 at $900+, then that's a definite "no" for getting it. Beyond unacceptable. I'll keep the phones I have or switch to a GSM carrier and buy a One Plus.
When you throw in taxes and optional insurance, you are looking at a total over $1000
imma skip to the pixel 3. it's not worth it considering how good the pixel/pixel xl are to date
I was but it doesn't have band 71

i just got pixel by selling oneplus 3 and i am quite happy. don't need a new phone for some time.
No LTE band 71 for Tmobile 600 mhz. Not good Google

Ouch! Never owned anything but a Google phone. Im starting to rethink this.

another "should I upgrade" post

Hi there,
Need to change my phone operator and I could have a new phone with this occasion.
I have the OG Pixel, still works great except so-so battery life. Now my phone operator offers me the Pixel 2 XL for 171$ (Canadian, with taxes includes) or the new Pixel 3 for 550$ . I'm not sure about what to do. I find it expansive and to have the last generation doesn't bother me, but if I go with the 2Xl Will I be as bug free than I am now with the OG pixel? Is the almost 400$ more for a new Pixel 3 really worth it?
Thanks for your advice
Pixel 2XL is still great phone. If you are right on budget, then definitely worth it.

Pixel 4A 5G

Anyone else who recently just purchased the 4A a bit annoyed they released the 5G model not even 2 months after?
I just bought the Pixel 4A about 3 days ago and at this time there is no refund (re-stocking fee $35) And no trade in value.
A little annoyed with google to be honest.

They were all announced before 4a went in sale. I like the size of the 5g, but have no real use for 5g. I'm on Tracfone, which I don't believe uses it, and I'm on WiFi 99% of the time anyway. I also have an OP 5t, so if I wanted size I'd keep it. Really like the feel of the 4a. Also just got my highest SOT at 10h 12m. I'd be surprised if the 5g was that battery friendly.

Do your homework; 5G variant was announced prior to 4a release with plenty of coverage in click happy media.
Indeed, the 4a 5g wasn't a secret and we all knew it was coming. But i believe they both target a different audience.
But you can just enjoy the 4a and sell it later.
I've read somewhere that the 4a 5g won't be available until November.
My wife just got the 4a and it is a super nice phone. The phone is also $150 more and like everyone said, they were all announced around the same time. Plus, 5g probably won't be really mainstream for another couple of years. I mean, the jump from 3g to LTE (or WiMax..RIP Sprint) took a few years to fully happen too.
You'll be fine with the 4a for a year or two...I would just wait. Are you really going to notice the speed difference between LTE and 5G on a cell phone? Probably not.
I view 5G as a work in progress, with a LOT of hype & promises, at the moment, and the true end result still to be seen, probably a couple of years down the road. No regrets at all going with the Pixel 4a and saving $150 in the process.
At Google's Launch Night In event, the tech company finally unveiled its latest Pixel phones , the Pixel 5 and Pixel 4A 5G, following the August launch of the Pixel 4A . The Pixel 5 is Google's main flagship phone and is the follow-up to last year's Pixel 4 . The Pixel 4A 5G, meanwhile, serves as a slightly bumped-up version of the Pixel 4A, which is part of Google's midrange line of phones. The Pixel 5 and the Pixel 4A 5G cost $699 (£599, AU$999) and $499 (£499, AU$799), respectively, with preorders beginning today.
Love the 4A. It's compact and gorgeous to use as my secondary device.

4a or 4?

Hey, time to upgrade finally. I like the ROM support on this 4a here, lots to try and still some straggling replies here and there. I feel like I'll have better troubleshooting here
I don't like the 4a price, I found a 4 open box for cheaper. I also like the specs on the 4 better. Important things now are root, and gaming speed. If one of those 4 ROMs work I feel like the performance will suit me better?? What's gonna happen if I flash all these cool ROMs on my pixel 4...?
The negatives for the 4a are price and performance but I'm not sure how much different it will be between the two. Negatives for the 4 are 64gb and low activity and only 3 ROMs to try with very little support. I'll save money with the 4, the one game I play might run a little smoother...what's the call guys??
My simple advice:
I wouldn't let the price effect your decision at all because it would be a one-time "hit" (a one-time problem that goes away as soon as you buy the phone).
However, if the phone you pick doesn't do what you want, then that's a continuous "hit" (you will always have to deal with it)
Good advice. I take it as get the 4 cuz I like it better, price is lower, but XDA is not busy with it anymore/much to begin with.
That's where its weird. I found a 64gb pixel 4 for 250. I know I like the specs on the 4 better. The phone I would prefer before I came here and found a nearly dead pixel 4 forum is the pixel 4. I'm on a pixel xl generation 1, so won't I notice insane performance differences anyway?
The problem here is the cheaper phone is what I want, open box. So kinda almost new to me. The problem with the phone I want is XDA is pretty quiet on it. I don't really expect a reply on the 4 thread, where the 4a seems to have daily activity still. I wanna play with custom ROMs and try them out and use my unlimited data for hotspot. I like the cheaper option for hardware, but XDA is much more active over the 4a. This is my conundrum...
FWIW, the past day I've seen several 4a's listed as "mint" on Swappa sell for $250-$265. I contemplated buying one myself but can't really justify it yet. They sold within an hour of being posted. You'd need to be ready to act if you go that route & find one listed at that price. You could also try to negotiate one of the higher priced ones down.
Good luck!
The 4 is open box, which I assume is basically new. Returns and stuff people hopefully didn't use long. The 4a I would just buy new to have a new phone rather than 4a. Plus google unlocks it, no OEM unlock issues...
I like the 4 better kinda but again, no responses in the 4 and 2 different responses here just on suggestions. Not even messing with ROMs yet...
The issue is I'll pay 349 for a new 4a, no 5g, for a phone less powerful than my other option at 250. The phone I was is crickets on XDA lol there's two ROMs I would try and if they work well enough I don't care but troubleshooting with quiet threads is not fun.
I guess keep an eye on swappa for a mint one around the same price? But I buy open box usually, not mint. So idk haha. Would be nice to know I'm the only owner of a device.
The 4a has way better battery life and more rom options. Also didn't realize how much I missed the headphone jack. That's my 2¢
I figured everyone may want an update?
In true personal fashion I spent hours and days researching which one, was going to go with the 4a, bought a pixel 5.
Paypal credit opened a line way bigger than I expected, and whatever, time I had a new phone lol
Thanks everyone, I'll make sure you all got them
PIxel 5 is actually my first choice, followed by the 4a 5G. I can't justify the prices though.
Hope you like your new phone!
I wanted the 4a after some discussion in here, the 4a 5g is on the same page. Little XDA support like the 4, but another 150 and I'm on 5g. That was really tough to ignore. 5g chances my existence entirely. Its available where I live and it will literally change my life lol I know that sounds stupid but its true.
Here's I how justified it:
Took the 349 I had set aside for the 4a, fumbled around, delivered food, went to work, did some math...PayPal credit gives you six months no interest, 699-349/6/4 means I just need to pocket 14.58 weekly, 2.09 daily for 6 months for the difference to have the phone today. This is my internet, sprint (or whatever) unlimited with hotspot unlocked. I have 5 devices connected as I type this to LTE, that's OK? But nothing compared to even the cheapest broadband. But I don't pay for any. The other option is to stash 33 weekly for 6 months and I could remake that 349 AND the difference...somebody needs to give me a better direction if you cannot tell...
5g device, baddest otterbox I can find, and I'm set for 3-5 years. I'm on the pixel xl and its perfect except its dead cell and could certainly use a ftrim, dalvik wipe/art wipe, whatever it is called today, just worried it will break pogo lol god I'm lame plus now I have yet another device to connect to my WiFi lol
Because of that 5g, I was pulled towards the 4a 5g, and at that point its 499 so...applied for PayPal credit on a joke, they gave me a huge line of credit :/ and I got a pixel 5 in the mail lol probably gonna beat the sim card

Is anyone updating to the 6a? Huge trade-in exp. TODAY!

I almost totally missed the $300 trade-in for Pixel 4a for a new 6a...sooo glad that Google 9 to 5 posted a reminder update! The boosted trade in expire at nidnight tonight!
Google is also throwin' a pair of Google Buds A for free...that was the clincher for sure. All in, the total cost of 2 years P4a ownership (not incl. service) comes to -$50, and actually +$50 counting the free Buds!
Only bummer is waiting for root...lol
