~~A custom kernel for (most) G5 variants~~
Swan2000 is an android kernel based on the very latest Qualcomm 4.4 CAF sources for MSM8998 (which is also compatible with MSM8996), aiming to bring new features and updates over official kernels, and also improve LGE MSM8996 devices with some extra tuning, fixing and additional features tailored specifically for their performance characteristics and feature sets, while trying to maximize the battery life and responsiveness of those devices at the same time.
Its name comes from a merge between Swankernel(@AShiningRay) and mk2000(@askermk2000), as they were the main heads behind this kernel's development.
__Disclaimers__First and foremost: DO NOT bother official LineageOS threads with bugs if you're using this kernel, only bug reports with logs pointing to the official kernel will receive support there!!!
Now for the usual XDA disclaimer:
We are not responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards, tactical nukes being set up (with the G5 you never know), alien invasions, google spying on you, or you getting fired because the alarm app failed after you removed all traces of google services from your phone so that google couldn't spy on you.
YOU are choosing to make these modifications, and if you point the finger at us for somehow messing up your device despite YOU being the one explicitly making these modifications, we will laugh at you.
DO NOT expect support on official ROM threads if you are running this kernel. Also don't try to hide it because we will know, and we will also laugh at you.
Your warranty is most likely void at this point anyway, but nevertheless, it is now definitely void if you tamper with any part of your device / software.

__Which G5 variants/models does this kernel support?__
The kernel currently supports the following G5 variants:
H850
H830
RS988
Those seem to cover every rootable/previously rootable variant thus far
__What does this kernel intend to achieve?__
The main goal here is to have a kernel that not only has extra features and improvements, but is also clean and concise, having only features that are truly needed from a kernel that will run alongside a Android 12.1-based ROMs and beyond.
This kernel does have a battery life bias, but will still scale up to maximum performance when needed. Gaming variants basically mean that the kernel comes overclocked by default, no additional tweaking is needed.
__Does it have any features over official?__
Yes, quite a few. The kernel is divided into two variants and their respective gaming modes, here are the features all variants have over Lineage's 4.4 kernel:
GPU and CPU/Cache Undervolt for better power efficiency on load.
Almost no unnecessary debug flags on the kernel for better kernel performance.
USB Fast Charge.
KCAL Control (although not really needed for LOS, other custom roms might surface with the need for this)
Multiple cherry-picks from different msm8996 sources with fixes and improvements to the kernel.
Built with newer GCC toolchains (GCC 12) with optimized inlining and other compiler optimizations for 8996
Updated LZ4 libraries for faster ZRAM
Cryptographic function optimizations, slightly improving the phone's performance when calculating hashes and so on.
The Extreme variant really only has one extra feature over the Safe variant, that being:
Stronger Undervolts (i'm talking about borderline unstable undervolts here, so i really recommend that you flash the Safe variant first).
The "Gaming" versions are basically overclocked variants of Safe and Extreme, which means they also only differ in undervolt levels.
__Are there any bugs?__
As of now, the only actual kernel bug the V20 and G5 have comes down to their insanely over-engineered USB ports. You can't use them as a MacBook by plugging a fully powered hub into them like you could in 3.18 yet.
__Download & Installation__
The folders containing each kernel variant can be found here (use Ctrl+F to search for your phone model and kernel variant, there's just too many versions to neatly organize in folders and such as it would take too much time):
GITHUB KERNEL RELEASES
To install the kernel, it's the standard procedure:
Download the kernel you want for your device
Place it into the phone's storage
Boot into recovery, select it and then flash
Wipe Dalvik Cache (optional, you only need to wipe it if you face random Force Closes, but it is a good practice anyway)
Reboot.
Use AIDA64, go into the "Android" tab and look for "Kernel Version", where it should show "4.4.302-Swan2K-...".
Enjoy the experience!
As usual, we do not take responsibility if you fail to make backups before flashing this kernel, you have been warned!
__Changelog__
Spoiler: Changes done in recent versions:
*********** Swan2000 V0.1-BETA8 [First Release] ***********This one is pretty straightforward: Basically lineage's kernel with all the features and improvements listed above, plus a few additional tweaks that would take too much space to note.
__Closing notes__
If you have any suggestion or idea that can possibly improve the kernel, do not hesitate to share, i will try to implement it when time allows it. If there are any problems that only happen on this version of the kernel, submit a log and i'll try to look at it.
I'll say it again: Please DO NOT bother official Lineage with bugs if you're running this kernel, only lineage's official kernel is supported over there.
___________________________________
The kernel's source code can be found here. It is also shared between V20 and G6!
And last but not least, special thanks to those that helped this major revamp on LGE_8996 become a reality by developing, testing, and even helping things indirectly, the dev community on all three phones had to come together for this:
@AShiningRay
@xxseva44
@npjohnson
@askermk2000
@thewolfsvk
@ROMSG
@bernardobas
@VortexHD
@Michele_Catella
And many, many others
Don't mind me! Just reserving a post to keep tabs on this thread (just like G6's), and also because we might need to post something up here.

Since there will probably be no further updates for the Padfone A66 beyond 4.1.1, I am putting up this bounty thread in the hopes of giving some new life to this versatile 3-in-1 device. Even though I'm no developer, I think that by compiling a new ROM from source and adding OC-capable kernel, the "old" A66 with its 1 GB RAM and Snapdragon S4 SoC could become just as snappy as its bigger brothers are today.
Bounty Requirements:
A source-compiled ROM (AOSP/CM, JB or above) that can be used as a daily driver, featuring:
working drivers/sensors
stability
performance comparable to or better than stock
I understand that absolute stability and 100 % compatibility (e.g. dynamic display switching) might not be fully feasible using a non-proprietary base, therefore a one-week evaluation of the candidate ROM by two independent people should be carried out to determine if the goal has been reached.
I am willing to contribute 150 $ to this project, and would ask anybody out there who owns one of these wonderful devices to join in on this - it is for our own profit, and beats buying a new phone/tablet/netbook! Just post your pledge in this thread to get on board. Ideally, this project will start something that develops a life of its own and does not stop at the boundaries of this bounty, but simply having a working alternative to stock or stock-based ROMs would be more than enough to begin with.
There have been previous attempts at getting this done (see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2609381), but they either gave up or the devs have since moved on to newer devices. Currently the best alternatives to stock are two de-bloated but still huge, tweaked ROMs, both discontinued.
Motivation/Background
Even though the Padfone A66 is less than two years old (June '12), there have been four (!) new Padfones since then, not counting the Padfone X and Mini models released just recently. I find it hard to accept that the smartphone/tech industry in general expects us to exchange phones over two times a year just to stay up to date, software-wise. It's a shame that the PF1 is so often overlooked, especially seeing that it is the only Padfone to date that features an attachable hardware keyboard/battery just like the Transformer TF101. While Asus' Padfone strategy might be rather extreme, it does not stray too far from what other manufacturers are doing with their own brands. Looking at the never-ending success story of the HTC HD2, I think that even with today's rapidly changing hardware, it is possible for devices to have a longer life span - provided they are given some dedication and love from talented developers. If enough people showed interest in keeping their (just slightly) older devices up to date, it might be possible to counteract the planned obsolescence that is currently being force-fed to those of us who don't want to be left out of new updates, security patches and features.
Let's make a CM11-based PF1 ROM a reality, together!
-L
Im not sure how much it will help, as it may be easier to start from scratch, but here is the github link for the last persons attempt at CM11, which i believe was getting somewhere close to working https://github.com/rafatzbr/android_device_asus_A66
I may be interested in adding to the bounty, if the ROM will work well with the dock and tablet. Thanks
Adding 75$ to the bounty for a working 4.4.4 based on anything.
Bonus 100$ if get special features of KatKiss from TF101 (KitKat version) when applicable. (Most important, being able to run /data on sd from kernel level and treat internal /data as sdcard1 instead, sd card notification hidden, hotkey support)
Max total from me 175$US, possible to negotiate additional bonus bounty for features once a 4.4.4 system is on running. (Can convert to EUR before sending to avoid double currency exchange rate on paypal, will base on Google's USD to EUR result)
Max total with me and Legion.X 325$
Potentially usefull stuff
Shares some similarities with HTC one S and Sony Xperia T (wich has working OmniRom 4.4.4 and CM11)

Proton Kernel
Performance-oriented kernel
Proton Kernel is a minimal kernel focused on improving overall UX with performance and battery tuning.
Usage with my ProtonAOSP ROM is recommended to get the most out of your phone. The ROM does not include Proton Kernel, so you will need to flash it yourself. The kernel alone will work just as well on stock, but you will not get the benefits of the ROM. More tightly coupled features may be added in the future.
Installation
This kernel is provided as a bootable flasher image. It is not a boot image for flashing into the boot partition. Boot the image with "fastboot boot ProtonKernel-pixel5-VERSION.img" to flash it. The image is specially packed with a custom flasher that is fast and easy to use, so flashing it into the boot partition directly will not work.
All versions of all ROMs are supported, as well as Magisk if you wish to use it. Magisk will be preserved after flashing if you already have it installed. If not, you can install Magisk by patching your boot image before flashing the kernel.
DO NOT FLASH THE IMAGE DIRECTLY TO THE BOOT PARTITION! It will not work, no matter what you flash it with — fastboot, kernel managers, etc.
Features
• Advanced CPU tuning specifically for the Snapdragon 765G to improve performance and reduce jitter
• Scheduler ramp/decay tuning for faster response to quick actions
• Display power-saving tweaks (mostly Pixel 5 only)
• Near-instant display wakeup (Pixel 5 only)
• Reduced touch latency and motion jitter (at the cost of losing Deep Press)
• ThinLTO optimizations for performance
• TCP ECN, BBR congestion control, and fq_codel network scheduler for faster and more reliable networking
• 80 MiB of extra RAM unlocked for apps to use
• More linear and consistent battery percentage curve
• Custom fast & easy kernel flasher with support for Magisk and all ROMs
• Minimal debugging for better security, performance, and reduced size
• Sultan's Simple Low Memory Killer to improve memory utilization
• Tuning for F2FS garbage collection, low-level atomic operations, and more
• System call filters compiled to machine code for 66% faster filtering
• Reduced CPU usage when using cellular data (for testing with 5G mmWave networks)
• Compiled with the latest Proton Clang 13 toolchain
• zRAM disabled to reduce CPU waste
• WireGuard VPN acceleration
• Support for power user tasks: USB modem-like devices (e.g. RFID tools), custom virtual USB Ethernet networking, isolated Linux containers
• SafetyNet basic attestation passing without Magisk

I think it's based on this commit: https://github.com/kdrag0n/proton_kernel_redbull/commit/08b5b13c4a1f551163106691b42c3c8bdb339e0d
Have a read of the description of the commit to understand why it's done this way.

That sounds like something is wrong with your setup (not necessarily your fault) because my own device is performing great on this kernel. Please send kernel and Android logs using the SysLog app. It would also be helpful to get more details: slow or janky, where, what, when, etc.
I'm not sure what you're trying to say with the Simple LMK article, but I've had a great experience with SLMK on all of my devices. It's very unlikely that it's causing issues for you. The stance of mainline Linux developers do not always align with providing the best possible experience on mobile and Android as they are interested in satisfying a much wider array of needs and unifying them as much as possible.

Good luck with your kernel. I have the deepest RESPECT for you and Sultan. You guys make the Android community far better than it could ever be. There is not many of you guys that are so committed i will always appreciate your work.
That being said, I am so sensitive and picky it's not even funny. Lol
Here's my problem. I'm so busy and overwhelmed that trying to help you is futile.
I really think I could and would. If I could retire. This is always my work device. They pay me for this. That being said. I have no logs and wish you the best.
Battery life and stability are superior. .. thanks for all your efforts @kdrag0n .. I wish the old pixels got this superior life . Cya in telegram keep it up fella..
Thank you very much for your work! Everything is working really well for me, battery life is amazing!
I am using your rom and kernel and flashing your kernel just improved perfomance im my favourite game (which I've been playing for years) a LOT!
In certain parts it was really laggy before and now it's just smooth
So thanks again
Works great with your ROM brother, thank you so much for your work <3

Thanks appreciate it, been a while since I am in the flashing game, your kernel is really good, I can tell by how it scroll in youtube. Anyway if you could look into swap space, and disable it, I know I done this in my Linux computer at work and I use to do it on android phones, not sure if they evolve into z-swap but that always give me an improve performance.

Modern Android phones use zRAM for swap, which this kernel has disabled.

No it's not possible,
You have to fastboot boot the kernel. When it boots the kernel it will flash itself in its own little installer and then reboot to android with the kernel flashed.

Ok thank you
I keep coming back to this kernel after flashing the other...this kernel is legit!
Was already impressed with the battery-life provided by ProtonAOSP's bundled kernel, but was shocked by the gains in battery-life after installing the ProtonKernel (no Gapps):

I'm using conquer os, I will test this one.
does this rom already contain google apps?
no gravity kernel work on it?
Is this riced build. The previous one was not riced right.
Banking apps claiming that the device is rooted, but it's not. (and it's not related to unlocked bootloader either because i never encountered it on any other ROM previously)
It's passing SafetyNet homever, weird.

is there a chance for a full translation into Polish? there is a lot of text in the settings not translated into Polish. It's a pity, because the rom at the moment is definitely the best and runs very smoothly.

Thanks sir. Will flash asap.
Features like now playing or long press power button to torch will be added?
Awesome - will flash tonight
Issues found and already reported as follows:
Google Camera continues to crash
System lock ups for a 1-3minutes
When sitting for a while, the fp icon appeared but unable to unlock the device. Power button wouldnt wake screen. After several minutes it resolved itself.
Battery drains speedily
Widget issues like battery widget didnt work well
System. lock issue and will unlock after several mins
I couldn't get the recovery or fastboot to take on any of the downloads. I couldnt' get the instructions above to work - thoughts?
Installed last night with some help from PixelFlasher - see how it goes today.
Ran for a full day - super super fast and slick!! Per the above, battery lastst about 9 hours total - lol my idle time as a 4% drain/hour - and 20ish % active use. But everything worked so once outta the beta stage I'll give it another go.
For now - back to stock + root + MVK

I'd wait and see if any more releases come out. Its not daily driver ready. The issue is the rom sets everything to max and heats your phone up in minutes

We are very excited to announce the beta of Paranoid Android Topaz, based on Android 13.
On the first launch, you’ll notice a clean setup with beautiful wallpapers from Hampus Olsson, who teamed up with us again to create several beautiful pieces of artwork. Hampus is a multi-disciplinary artist whose design stands for itself and we’re glad to have him onboard. We also added further UI touches that we believe enhance the overall user experience. You can find all of the Paranoid Android wallpapers and many more in the Abstruct app from the PlayStore.
Our builds are based on the Code Linaro Organization Android base, which is optimized for Qualcomm platforms and has a higher degree of performance, battery life, and functionality compared to the Android Open Source Project platform. The Paranoid Android team and contributors are focusing on squashing existing bugs, and implementing and improving features, performance, and stability. We are dedicated to providing a user experience with the stability that you can expect from stock ROMs with best-in-class performance and features to help you get the most out of your device.
Notice
We kindly ask all of you that are in a position to donate anything, to help and support us so we can provide better and faster build releases, as well as increase the download speed of our servers, all looking for your enjoyment.

This rom has support for OTA updates. If you plan to stick around with PA, your feedback will be appreciated on our new OTA system. We're consistently testing full and incremental OTA updates.
Key Features
- Face unlock support
- A slew of Pixel exclusive features
I think your link goes to the Pixel 6 Pro (raven) page. While I'm running my unofficial LOS builds on a 7 (panther) and probably won't flash AOSPA, I don't see Pixel 7/7 Pro builds on your site.
Yeah the link does go to raven builds and no PANTAH is showing as available at all on your website yet. I have just noticed the builds are available on Telegram though
Fixed, the website didn't get updated until the threads were posted
thanks for sharing
Wow! Many thanks to the team. I'm going to test
Been a really really really long time since I've used Paranoid Android, might've been the Nexus 6P days, so I'll definitely give this a shot shortly.
Edit: So far, everything just works. 1080p is janky with the fingerprint sensor, so turn your display to 1440p and it'll work fine. Apart from that, yeah. Everything just works really. Nothing really stands out or is anything like when they first rebranded, but it's also a first release. Just clean and polished.
For those not sure how to flash, I used the fastboot version, flashed stock, booted into bootloader, fastboot update aospa-topaz-beta-1-cheetah-20221119-image.zip and it'll handle the rest.
Is calling and 5g support working?

We have a few pretty cool things like Face unlock and full fledged OTA support atm but we're more focused on establishing the basic necessities for now, but we do have some innovative stuff in the pipeline, just takes time to work on. Glad everything is working for you (ill probably make 1440p the default until i sort out whatever that is with fp in 1080p).
Hello PA allow 32 bit app ?
can you please provide more info on features? how is it different from the stock rom?
Awesome!! If possible can we get DC Dimming on the Pixel 7 Pro?
