Imperfection in Nexus S build or Something.

I got my Nexus S 4G last month, but one thing i noticed is that the side of the phone isn't flush with the door, so part of the phone is uneven with the battery door, you can see it and feel it, I tried another battery door and it didn't correct it. Have any of you guys have had this issue? Would the phone need a new front housing or something to fix it?

I didn't even notice this until I read your post. It's the side of the phone that the volume rocker is on right?
Yes, my sister has the same phone but it's even on that side. A defect?

I guess it is. It doesn't bother me though.
Not sure exactly what you mean, but do you mean there's a small small gap on the right side where the volume rocker is, even if the door is fully clipped?
Because mine used to be perfect, sent my phone to Samsung for repair and it came like that. Tracked the problem down to the top right screw (remove the back) stop the back from clipping perfectly, but still letting clip on. Made a turn or half a turn and then everything was fine when I clipped it back. Found it weird Samsung would miss this, but hey, they're human.
That's weird.
Mine is perfectly flush.

[Q] Muffled Audio / Distorted Audio issue?

Hey peeps,
I've noticed that people complain they cant understand/hear what I'm saying to them when I'm in call and holding the phone in between my shoulder and ear (you know...like using both my hands to do something else while on the phone)
I was curious if anyone else is experiencing this issue because I'm ready to send my phone back to T-Mobile and have them replace mine. Oh and my battery life is terrible. Not sure if that is due to the ViperROM or just from using and charging the phone for the last several months.
Please give me some feedback. I know I'm going to have to reload the stock android rom on my device before sending it in if I do

I had a similar problem, everyone was telling me that they couldn't hear me or that it sounded like I was on speaker phone. Turns out some gunk had gotten into the mic hole. I cleaned it out with a needle and my problem was fixed. Might want to check that.
ill also have to see if its the cheap $7 plastic casing i have around the phone. gosh this mic hole is tiny and is covered by the casing
the hole is down on the bottom right of the phone right?
Bottom right is correct. You might try drilling a small 1/4" hole for a mic opening in the case.

Sent from my HTC One S using xda app-developers app
That is actually a good idea. I'll try it if I isolate the problem to the case. I'm using my phone casually without the case now to see if its the issue.
My hands struggle to grasp the tiny phone now lol, the case is small but the phone itself is slick and smooth metal. Loved this phone when they first set it in my hand at the kiosk

[Q] After replacing the screen, earpiece grill is not working

Hi there,
I replaced my broken screen with a screen+frame which has the grill on the screen. However, after replacement, I can not hear any sound when somebody calls me. I need to use the speaker or the earphones to talk to somebody, pretty annoying. Do you have any idea what I did wrong or missing?
Thanks.

Did the speaker grill have any coating or covering on the inside? Perhaps you either disconnected or tore a ribbon cable that was connected to the speaker (if there was one)? I had similar issues with my screen replacement, but had issues with no cellular signal. I'm going to have to take mine apart again to investigate. I would suggest the same for you...

Hey, I had the same problem when I first replaced. The solution is easy. I forgot to plug in one of the cables which apparently increases the cellular signal. See the pictures attached.
I can not open the grill, for the sake of not opening the screen from the frame I bought the screen with frame and grill. So this defeats whole purpose.
Anybody has any idea about it? Is there a special connection for earpiece speaker?
Are you sure you have the ear speaker installed ? I don't think you have to open the screen to change the speaker.
In step 19 in the iFixit guide they remove the speaker BEFORE they remove the screen.
By the way where did you ordered the screen + mid frame? How is the rest of the quality ?

Hey Thanks for this. I installed it as well but still not working, interesting. I'm going to reopen try to fit it again.
I bought it from here: aliexpress.com/snapshot/6480736262.html?orderId=65692759745232 - DHL sent me the item in less than one week.
There is also alternative: vifocal.com/lcd-display-digitizer-replacement-with-middle-frame-for-oneplus-one-64gb-16gb.html
Quality is ok, I had ghost swipes before. It's not happening any more. Maybe because of software fixes (I'm on CM12 nightly, Lollipop). Apart from that, the colors are a lil bit washed out. I got used to anyways Sometimes under bright light (outdoors afternoon), greens look so weird. Overall I'm satisfied because I dropped the phone a lot in the past and mid frame was full of scratches. Now I have new mid frame.
Here they said the ear speaker is extremely fragile so i think it's
possible you broke it.
How is the speaker connected anyway ? I diddn't find any connector in the teardown.

So it's obviously not the original one :crying:
But contact the seller that you didn't get an original one. You can get a refund. And write him a bad critic on aliexpress that it is not original so he can't trick more people.

it might not be the original one but it saved me from the time without any phones. I gave him a good rating etc. Asking for refund would be unfair in my opinion.
Yes I also saw that xda recommendation, maybe I broke it I don't know. WIll give it a try tonite. Ordered an earpiece speaker just in case from the aliexpress for 6 bucks, but i'm sure it will take at least 1 month to arrive.

Thanks everyone, I solved the problem by putting the speaker unit horizontally 180 degree flipped and it started working.
Nice :good:

Has anyone encountered problem with their headphone jack?

I dont know how mine got broken but when I plug my earphones in it the audio is broken. I've tested the earphone and it is working properly on other devices.
I also tried cleaning the jack with a qtip to remove dust and the problem still occurs.
Is there other way to fix headphone jack? Is it possible to replace it?
My son had same problem on P10lite. I used teeth cleaning wooden piece (dont know english name for that) and i removed lot of dust and some small cotton pieces out of jack. After that, sound works perfect

My jack destroys any earphones I plug in it. Switched to Bluetooth, I'm done with jacks.
Mine doesn't work anymore!
Rubbing alcohol with a q tip. If the q tip is too large, take some of the fuzz off so it slides in nice.

Sorry but couldn't control... You just put it in the wrong hole... Answering your question, u would have damaged a rubber gasket covering the mic, nothing more than that...

Wrong hole gets you into trouble every time. I've ended up on the couch a few times. A rubber definitely helps cushion the blow, gasket I mean of course.

Lol was a pun of sorts, but there is usually something blocking the microphone. A lot of times that actually make the hole curve in a bit to avoid the potential for damage in this situation. On my essential phone the hole was actually right next to the sim slot and there was a similar thread as this about 10 pages long. I wouldn't be overly concerned tbh.
Lol. I thought I was the only one. I did the same thing. It's all good, nothing has happened to my device. I just won't allow water near anymore.

i dont give a f*** for the water , the whole device is not water resistance anyway , but am worried about the (noice cancellation) or the mic function it self because i feel like i click on something or pooped something lol
Got the same when I was using a HTC U11.
And then I sold it.
Thechnically, puting the simm tool on the upper mic hole wont affect anything because it's a straight hole and the there is a 90° angle and the the grill then the speaker which is attached to the motherboard, so i don't think you damaged anything

how could you damage the water resistance if the sim tool is straight and the water resistance is in a parallel plan lol
