Hi Everyone, I hope this is not a repeat.
I just spent several hours trying to figure out how to ADB connect to my new Kindle 8.9 (6th Generation running 5.3.1). The standard Google SDK USB Drivers dont work.
In the end I found that Amazon has released a new set of drivers that work only for the Fire 8. You can find them here:
developer.amazon.com/public/resources/development-tools/ide-tools/tech-docs/05-setting-up-your-kindle-fire-tablet-for-testing
Then I used Rootjunky to do the rest. THanks

So I followed your instructions for HD 8 6th Gen, downloaded the drivers from Amazon & installed them. Ran RootJunky to install Google Play Store - a voila - it works! I then updated to 5.3.1.1 and Play store still works just fine.
I didn't venture to attempt to root with the RootJunky SuperTool. Anyone try that yet with success??

Root is not possible on them with 5.3.1 .
Hi, I have a very noob question: If I install Google Play Store, I could have some problems with the OS updates in the future?

Nope. Google Play Store should not affect OS Updates. Once we are able to root, however, it could effect OS Updates or if an update goes through you may lose root. But, that's not an issue at present because there's not a good root method for the 6th Generation (unless someone's found one).
I keep looking around and still, it seems, there is not root method for the Fire HD 8 - 6th Generation (2016). Anyone else find one??
Damn, also I tried to block all updates using Netblock, my Fire Hd 8 6th generation found and isntalled an update today, anyone else? I was hoping there would be a root solution sooner...
Updated to 5.3.2 on my HD 8 (6th generation) - still not able to root. Sadness sets in.
So, I must be confused by having read posts about the "5th generation" HD8 and not the 2016 model, but I thought I read that it CAN be rooted?
Is it true that the 2016 Kindle Fire HD8 cannot be rooted? Mine is on OS 5.3.1 and it's telling me that update to 5.3.1.1 is "ready to install".

Don't install 5.3.1.1
@MyCephei is looking for 5.3.1 (and I wouldn't mind it either since my BF special arrived yesterday with 5.3.1.1 installed).
You just need someone to tell you how to pull the rom and post it so other can downgrade to 5.3.1 and await Kingroot solution.
Just got the Fire HD8 Gen 6 [2016]. Wondering if anyone has seen the method to root?
There are things on there such as different language keyboard, Google Play store that I would like to have.

Can you explain why Kingroot will only be compatible with 5.3.1 and not 5.3.2?

In 5.3.2, amazon patched the exploit that allowed Kingroot to get root access.

Is a downgrade possible for those who already received 5.3.2?

I just did this, but after updating the Google Play Services, the Play Store app no longer works, just shows a white screen. Have you run into this? If so, do you know a fix?

Actually, I have seen someone post that made it from 5.3.2 to 5.3.1.1
hi guys,
i downloaded and manually updated my fire hd 8 7th gen to the latest firmware update. but i am stuck on an orange screen that says checking for software updates please wait a minute. its been doing this for a long time, is there a way to stop this? have i messed this up? the reason why i manually updated was because i had the play store installed and other programs but it wasnt rooted.
please help!
anda happy new year!
I got a couple of these 10.5 v 7 ones for the kids. One reconditioned one from Amazon and one from a local user. Both have been factory reset and fully updated but the one from Amazon will not update past 5.3.6.4 but the other one (which is older) is at 5.6.4 and seems much smoother. How do I update the first one to the latest firmware? I keep hitting the update button but it says that it already has the latest firmware!
Can anyone help please?

Fire OS 5.3.6.4 is actually 5.6.3.0, but Amazon messed up the version number. I've not heard of this newer version before, so it could be in a testing phase for only some people. I'd recommend you to wait until the tablet updated itself. Maybe it will also appear on the update website first.

The version # has finally been corrected (5.6.4.0, as of the 3/28 build)
Hi
Did somebody already installed the new HD 10 (7th generation) firmware (5.3.6.8)?
What are the changes? Is it worth it?
Thanks

Since we can make backups thanks to recently achieved BL unlock, it shouldn't be a problem to just make a full System Backup, Upgrade the Firmware and try it out yourself. I never suggest upgrading Firmware because they ship more and more bloatware to this device. You might get performance and battery improvements but personally I recommend to stay on the current version and wait for a usable custom rom.

One thing I can say for sure, it doesn't contain the miracast update.
5.6.4.0 should be the latest firmware, that was an OTA update when I got my brand new HD 10 last week.
Just for reference.
I received a update on Nov 12th in BC Canada 7.3.1.1

There is no ROM based on LineageOS for this model right? I hate how sluggish the tablet is sometimes.

no, nothing. Rooting is limited to 7.3.1.0 also.
Any recommendations for making the thing run better ? 2 Gb of RQM must get filled fast and there is no task monitor to see what's going on.

i got my HD 10 tablet in October
soi think it is probably oon or below 7.3.1.0
so any FW at or below 7.3.1.0 should be rootable right ?
i have not switched on the tablet yet because i want to root and block updates before i put in the WIFI credentials
but this place is such a mess i can't find out how to do it
can you link me to a guide on how to get this thing setup and rooted without catching an update and how to disable the updates?
the mods need to totally revamp this whole section and crate separate sections for every single model and year revision
and make better stickies for essential information like this
this place is an unorganized mess

Yes you should be fine. Once you get to the wifi select, hit back. and then skip. You should be able to get into the OS without connecting to the Wifi, Do not connect to the network until you have installed the MTK-su root (with magisk) and have disabled updates. Once you get into the OS check the version. They were all shipping with 7.3.1.0 in October... If good go to this thread to get root and magisk, then search for disable (do not just click in development setting, it will still update)
https://forum.xda-developers.com/hd...xperimental-software-root-hd-8-hd-10-t3904595
Then do this for always root...

Message me for questions, i can walk you through it... Either renaming the update or disabling the OTA app seems to disable updating.. . Just do not connect to the internet until you have them blocked...
