Google Pay

The Pixel 4a is the first phone in 10 years I didn't root because of the hardware check, but nevertheless Google Pay doesn't work for me on this phone. I had no single problem on my OnePlus 6 with Magisk. Is there a known bug? Does anybody know if usb debugging enabled is a problem for Google Pay? It's very frustrating to go back to the plastic card to pay.
Did you unlock bootloader? That'd cause it to fail the check even if not rooted.

USB debugging enabled kills some streaming services; wouldn't be surprised if Google Pay is sensitive to this
No, I didn't unlock the bootloader. I think this triggers the Google checks.
The only thing I did was enabling the developer options in order to give Tasker and some other apps special permissions.
I have a 4a on Android 10 with developer options enabled. I've used GPay once, and it worked ok for me.

Thanks a lot, so I have to check my card. As mentioned before it worked last week on my OnePlus 6, so it's really strange.
Will try another card next time.
Not sure if it helps but sometimes I have run into an issue with using magnet mounts on the back of my phone case with pay terminals.
It's very frustrating. I tried three different cards and looked up the NFC location which is very different to my OnePlus 6. Under the fingerprint scanner instead of in the camera module. I really don't want to factory reset because I already set up all banking apps.
Thank you all for your help.
Edit: I found on Reddit, that there seems to be s a problem with Tasker, so I uninstalled it and also disabled the developer options. Will see if this works for me.
To be clear, is Google Pay telling you your device is ineligible / incompatible etc and refusing to let you set up a card? Or is the issue that it simply doesn't work at a payment terminal?
If doesn't work at the terminal. The app tells me everything is fine. I also tested the NFC chip with a German ID card. The phone can read all information stored in the ID.
Ok. That clarifies things a bit. If Google Pay isn't complaining about device eligibility then that's not what your issue is.
It's still not impossible that it's a hardware problem. Maybe it still works correctly for reading other unpowered devices like an ID card, but doesn't work for being read by payment terminals.
I'm not alone. :highfive:
The process in the video is the exact same I see every time I try it: https://9to5google.com/2020/10/26/some-pixel-5-owners-cant-make-nfc-payments-with-google-pay/
Luckily I didn't try a factory reset. :fingers-crossed:

Changing lock screen owner info

It doesn't appear to be possible to change the lockscreen owner info on ColorOS, but it's imported from my previous device during the setup restore process. I need to change it since the phone number on there is no longer correct, but I can't without resetting the device!
Does anyone know if it's possible via Dev tools or ADB?
I have the same problem, but on a realme device. The date is 2023.01.14. Do you have a solution?
The only solution I found was to buy a Pixel 6 Pro
Exactly the same here with an Oppo Find X2 Pro. My owner info has been imported from my old Huawei P20Pro, 3 years ago. It was at first time visible. It disapeared from the screen with an update (Android 10->11 may be ?), then it re-apeared again with ColorOS 13.0 (ie Android 12->13). But still no way to update it...
I think Google should give access to it through the cloud syncing of phone parameters. I'm also lookng for an ADB way to update it, but my phone is not rooted.
Bad luck with this import

FRP - used phone, Google account, no PIN provided

After 10 years I really should know the answer, but I don't, and the XDA search function still doesn't work for me.
My N5 has a broken SIM tray. I bought an eBay broken-screen N5 and put this motherboard into mine. It asks for a PIN, which I obviously don't have (understandable that the seller couldn't remove the account, since the screen was totalled).
I've asked the seller for the PIN, but personally I'd be reluctant in his shoes.
Is there a workaround? I've seen the YouTube video (factory reset, settings, enable bootloader unlock, etc.) but that looked as if it was on an Android 5 device and I'd be surprised if Google haven't closed the loophole.
In the absence of a PIN, any suggestions? I've seen a suggestion that the seller could remove the device from Google via his PC - would that work?
(Edit: No, the seller says that the device doesn't appear on his Google device list.)
Thank you...
Update to prevent anyone spending time trying to think of a way to help...
In fact for reasons which appear to go against everything I've read about FRP I was able to use Fastboot to boot TWRP and factory reset the device, after which I was able to install CrDroid. Maybe it's because the device was on Android 6, too old for FRP to be a problem.
Anyway, bottom line, all ok now.

Is my phone hopelessly locked or there's still second chance? (Forgot pattern, USB debugging on but not OEM unlock so can't flash)

So basically I have a Stock Sony Xperia Z3 Docomo variant (if I recall correctly it was D6653) that I used all the way from 2017, until I had to let it rest in 2020 because the screen was broken (although at that time before the screen went completely messed up, I managed to enable USB debugging in order to mirror the screen on my laptop with scrcpy so I can use it). It's just laying down on my desk cabinet for two years. Until finally I got a chance to replace the screen, the battery and the back cover earlier this weekend. Problem is, I already forgot the pattern to unlock it. Not even my brother (who used it sometimes to game back then) remember the pattern. Worse part is some of the SIM card, even when it does have data plan (I just simply put the SIM from my other phone), the phone is just going to show as full bar Roaming (R) and no internet at all so this phone completely have no network (although I do also have suspicion that data connection is probably disabled), and obviously that means I can't use google account to unlock it
Wanted to use TWRP or Aroma File Manager to delete the pattern lock file, but then I realized I have to flash this thing, and even if I do now understand how to install TWRP on my Z3 model because I already read various tutorial on this forum since Saturday, the problem is that OEM unlock isn't even enabled simply because at the time it was still a bit functional, I don't see it as something I need as I don't root any phone that I use. And as additional note, as time goes on obviously all of the laptop at home had gone many clean reinstall, which means no ADB key backup, and I can't authorize because pattern lock
Is there hope left, or this phone is completely locked?
(TLDR: Phone locked because I forgot lock pattern, no Internet, data stuck at R, no connection so I can't recover with google account, USB Debugging on but not OEM unlock)

Question Help! cant get my pixel 7 pro to work properly/update

Hi. I have a pixel 7 pro ut ive also had pixel 6a in the past with the same issue. I've never got a phone to work right ever since the android 13 update for the 6 series. I use google fi.
I've replaced my phones a half dozen times and tried flashing/rooting, etc if it doesnt work but can never get it working properly,
The issue is this: the phone SEEMS to somehow revert to somehow having the boot partition being a ramdisk as well as the init_boot. if i look at the bootloader variables, the active slot that booted says its succesful; fastboot ok; but the retry count is 2 whereas the other slot says not successful, retry count 3,; fastboot ok;
if i set the other slot as active and try to boot to the system it will show the google logo (the one with the word google), then bootloop 3 times until it boots the other slot and then the booloader says the other slot is unbootable. also, system updated arent working properly, even the google play ones.
when it boots, where it shoes the network im connected to it will quickly flash from no sim card to no network to google fi.
also sometimes google sees my phone as 2 different devices. one is signed in as an android device and the other as "chrome webview"
also many of the system apps dont show properly when listing all the apps and it lists all the overlays as 0 bytes and shows "carrier settings" twice
also, the dialer, when doing *#*#4636#*#* will list two "phones" and one is on lte network google fi and the other is iwlan google fi and one says the "sub id" is 1, while the other shows as -1.
Anyone have any clue as to the issue? or how to fix it. As i said this has happenned on 3 different pixel 6a's and 3 different pixel 7 pro's
