It was relatively easy with the devices not having the A/B partitions, it was enough to recover a theme (MTZ) to modify the files and images.
Now with A/B partitions even by rooting you don't have access and the system remains Read,Write is not possible.
You can download a MTZ file, but on a stock rom you cannot install it, only Xiaomi Eu roms allow the import of an external theme.

I would like the change the fonts (if possible), on my lockscreen clock, battery indicator, and possibly some fonts on my calwidget and beautiful widgets clock/weather widget.
Is this possible?
Let's say I find a font pack I like, called "coolfont.ttf". How would I go about doing this?
Ok, I found an app called fontchanger that works well...I only need to find fonts online and add them to the folder.
But the lockscreen clock in CM7 isn't affected. Anyone know how to change that font?
involves rooting and using a root file explorer app (ie root explorer)
yes, but does require root and TrueType fonts (ie .TTF). i personally use the Unique.ttf from Apple's Mac OS X SL and love it. has a futuristic but readable look.
System fonts are located here:
/system/fonts
I just rename the unique.ttf font to SansDroid.ttf (this is the main default system font thats used throughout the android ui). I rename the original one w/a .orig file extension before doing this. Bad fonts can cause boot loops and in turn you will have to boot to recovery mode and then use ADB Shell command to rename the original system font back or push it if you copy from your device.

Hey SeaMonkey,
Where do I find the Unique.ttf?? I really like that look on your screenshots
I use Absolute System to change fonts. There are like 1000 fonts to choose from and you don't have to do any work. Just choose the font, reboot and there it is. Love it.

Yes, can you either upload the Unique.ttf font for us, or point us in the right direction of where we can download it? I really like that font, but can't find it anywhere.
MMAPCPRO,
After a pretty good deal of searching many of the free font sites, I'm with you.
Any help or hints, or a zipped up .ttf file would sure help on this one.
Thanks!

Just paid for and downloaded Absolute System.
Its AWESOME! WELL WORTH the $1.99.
Highly recommended for the font peeps in this thread.
I can't find it anyplace, and I don't see anyplace in the HTC theme app to use already existing fonts, it seems to only allow you to use cloud fonts.
Anyone know how to change the fonts other than via "font style", without physically overwriting the existing system font with a different one?
I'm rooted, and fairly good with a terminal if needed, though would prefer a chooser with a GUI.
Anyone have any ideas?

Have you tried Googling "flashable fonts?" I haven't used any on this phone (yet...you have sparked my interest in that again...), but you can download fonts that are flashed through recovery.
The ifont app allows you to upload your own fonts if you don't already see it in their choices.
If you use the stock theme app you can download fonts from there
Sent from my HTC U11 using XDA Free mobile app
If you can find font APK, install it then choose it in Theme app.

I've got the fonts on my phone, in the /system/fonts/ folder with the stock ones, same permissions,. etc. but I see no place to change from the stock font to one of them instead. in older versions of android there was a 'Font Style' section to change the system font, I don't see it on the U11 at all.
The HTC theme app, and all the APK's I've seen, either force you to download fonts or rename fonts to the stock font (like 'roboto.ttf') and overwrite it, to trick the system; or both.
I don't have a problem getting fonts on there, I'm asking how do I take the fonts I have, and change the system font to one of them, like the (apparently deprecated) 'font style' section in settings allowed you to?

Not sure if stock Android always had a theming engine. From what I've seen only Samsung stock ROMs and Xiaomi phones have that support. But a rootless theming engine is coming in Oreo for sure:
https://www.xda-developers.com/android-oreo-rootless-system-theme/
Anyway the way I change font without overwriting existing font is, copy whatever fonts I want to /system/fonts, change those fonts to permission 644, and then edit /system/etc/fonts.xml to override the existing sans-serif fonts, which is usually the Roboto family. This works for other languages as well if you scroll down.
Every time you change this will require a system reboot to utilize the new changes, so I usually do this in twrp

I tried the thread that said the default emoji can be changed with the EMUI Theme Editor app and a modified .ttf font file, but I tried and it won't recognize the font or themes that the app creates. Is there a new/updated way of doing this without root? I absolutely hate the standard android Emoji.
just flash this magisk module....easy peasy

He said without root dude...
Anyway, this should be posted in Q&A section. Actually i don't think there is a way without root, since that emoji surely depends by system files
Can anyone help with flashing Google Sans Project Font on MIUI 10. I followed the procedures from this link - https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-max-2/themes/font-android-oreo-8-1-google-sans-t3694864
But, after flashing the MIUI_TWRP zip, after rebooting to the system there is not change. Can anyone try it on MIUI 10 and provide a workaround for this.
Trying the normal procedure of applying through Themes app doesn't work for Bold and Italic alphabets. Also, the wallpapers keep getting reset.
Thank you

Ok, found the workaround. This post was incomplete and not detailed, your phone needs to be rooted first to have it work. This should have been mentioned in the prerequisites.

I am trying to install custom themes on my vivo phone using the stock themes app, the app works perfectly fine but if I want to download custom theme files, there isn't a pre-built option and the theme files aren't stored in ".dwd/c/o/m/t/h/e/m/e/T", please help.
thanks.
On Vivo phones, themes are typically stored in the phone's internal memory in the "Themes" folder or app. To access the themes on your Vivo phone, you can go to the "Settings" menu and look for the "Themes" or "Wallpaper" options. From there, you can browse through the available themes and select the one you want to use. Some Vivo phones also have a theme store where you can download new themes.

Installing themes locally on your Vivo phone typically involves downloading a theme file, usually in the form of an APK file, and installing it on your device. The process can vary depending on the version of your phone's operating system and the theme file you are trying to install. Here are the general steps to install a theme on a Vivo phone:
Download the theme file (APK file) on your phone.
Go to your phone's settings and enable "install from unknown sources" to allow the installation of apps from sources other than the Google Play Store.
Open the APK file and install the theme. The theme will be installed as an app and you can find it in your app drawer.
Go to the theme app and apply the theme.
Restart your phone to apply the new theme.
It's important to note that not all downloaded themes will work on your phone, and installing themes from untrusted sources could be a security risk. It's always recommended to download themes from reputable sources and to read reviews before installing any theme.
It's also worth mentioning that some phone manufacturers like Vivo may have their own theme store or theme engine that allows users to install and customize themes, you may want to check if your phone has such a feature and use it instead of installing themes manually, as it may have more themes and be more secure.

It sounds like you are trying to install a theme file on your Vivo mobile device that has a file extension of ".it's". This is not a common file extension, and it's likely that the theme file is not in the proper format for your device.
If you are certain that the theme file is compatible with your Vivo mobile device, you may need to rename the file extension to a more common file extension such as ".zip" or ".rar" before attempting to install it.
It's also important to make sure that you are downloading the theme file from a reputable source and that the file is not corrupted. If the file is corrupted, it may not install correctly and could cause issues on your device.
If you are still unable to install the theme file, or if you encounter any other issues, you should contact Vivo customer support for assistance.
