Question What are the recommended Magisk modules for this phone? - Google Pixel 7 Pro

One thing I would like to do is be able to record phone calls. Does the default dialer have this built in somewhere that can be activated? TIA

If all you wanna go is record, skvalex' Call Recorder is the best there is.

Seconded. Works well, been using it for quite awhile.

Worth every penny. Bought it years ago, never failed me.

Here's what I'm using.
LSposed
AOSP Mods
Cool-Tensor
Thermal Throttling Modifier
Universal SafetyNet Fix
SystemUI Bootloop Saver (can be found on FoxMMM)
NoStorageRestrict (can also be found on FoxMMM)

Not putting anyone down, but what is the obsession lately with call recording?

I don't know of it being anything that's more popular "lately" as it's been a common feature that roms, dialers and modules have been including for as long as I've been modding phones (many, many years. For me, it's just a nice-to-have if you ever need it feature. And it's more like, OMG we take all of our calls on mini computers now and we can't easily record a call by default?? Just my opinion.

Thanks for that, but I had all kind of problems with both Delta and the latest Canary (SafetyNet, AdAway, and patching init_boot), so I reverted to Stable and called it a day.
Having one extra module with peace of mind to me is much better than having one less module with troubles.

Really? Never had an issue with Delta... Weird. Anyhow that's for a different thread

Cool Tensor and Throttling modifier aren't 2 completely opposite and controversial modules to work together? What is the benefit for one module trying to set higher thermal limits to avoid throttling and the other one to limiting further the clocks for not throttling..
I would like your experience about this 2 mods working together it looks interesting but i don't know if they cooperate well..

Lets discuss what we can do with our rooted V20!

Hey guys,
Its been a while since I rooted my phone (I've been using Samsung phones with locked bootloader) and it sure feels good to be back!
Now, I've been out of the loop for so long that I don't know what I should do next with my rooted V20!
I would love to have you guys come in here and discuss how we can make our V20 even better!
Thing's I've done so far.
Install Adaway
Remove Bloatware using titanium backup (is there better way to remove bloatware beside titanium backup?)
So far I removed all the TMobile apps, is there anything else I should remove that will improve the battery life?
Thanks and lets get this thread going! :good:

I hear ya, I was on a S7 Edge and a S6 before that. It has been a while. With that being said, LG stuff can mostly go....unless you use it. It doesn't seem to be too bad, so you might be able to leave them. Download Better Battery Stats and see what is causing any wakelocks that can be prevented.
Has anyone managed to get rid of Lookout? I hate that thing and want it gone.

Might want to FREEZE apps instead of uninstalling until a viable stock restore is available
Adblocking for sure. Should help improve battery life a hair by not downloading data for ads and processing them to be shown.

From what I've read, TWRP isn't doing proper nandroids, and there isn't a stock image to flash. At the risk of sounding "elitist," I'd recommend going slow.

I know what's in the root thread in the development section.
Is this what you're looking for?
The problems with the .tot files in a nutshell.
I'm not a dev. I can bearly muddle my way around ADB commands. I know what I know from watching the struggles in the root thread. Yeah, there's root and little else. The process doesn't seem quite ready for prime time which of course hasn't stopped the root commandos.
I CAN CONTROL THE WORLD WITH ROOT! LOL . No but really, what can't you do with root? you can do everything as long as the phone doesnt required to implement any new hardware within the phone... I like my Adaway, and greenify, and removes or freeze apps i dont like nor need, I like my pie bar for faster shortcuts (sure, the phone itself has the second screen to put up to 5 apps, but the pie bar give you a lot more options so i will have the 5 on the second screen plus the many mores in the pie bar which is a fast process too, maybe even faster than the second screen), i also like my xposed for every module i desire, AND MY BELOVED TITANIUM BACKUP! and many many more things
The one thing I hope and pray to see come from this newly acquired root is a camera mod that will allow 16MP in full 16:9. Please pull through devs! I would donate for that :highfive:

That's likely because the sensor isn't 16:9 shaped, it's 4:3. You have to crop the sensor to get 16:9.

Ice box APP - Safe to use?

Hello!
I recently found this app on a reddit post (https://www.reddit.com/r/androidapps/comments/6llcxs/whatever_happened_to_greenify_used_to_be/) called Ice box (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.catchingnow.icebox) which I would really like to use on my S8+. I seems very great and I have read about many people very much enjoying it. But that fact that it needs Device-Owner permissions concerns me a little?
In the reddit post people seems to like and so does people in this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6/themes-apps/ice-box-t3328073, but there is ONE person (ElwOOd_CbGp) in that thread who claims the APP sends data to China?
Does anyone have experience with this app? And maybe even can confirm/deny this claim?
Basically is this app Safe to use?

Active Edge Customization with Edge Sense Plus

I want to provide a magisk module that makes it possible to use my app: Edge Sense Plus
Therefore I will hook into the Active Edge Service called ElmyraService in SystemUIGoogle.apk.
Probably we will need to modify services.jar too to bypass the signature check.
Who is interested in this, or would it be waste of time for me?
Would need testers too, since I don't have a Pixel 2.
You should be familar with adb, to push, pull files and taking logcats
Hangouts link: https://hangouts.google.com/group/6cSKdk3No2lNAMs62
From what I understand you would like to make it so you can assign your own actions to the edge squeeze button? I would be interested as I don't use Google Assistant, I have knowledge basic knowledge about abd push/pull.
I also have a Pixel 2 walleye, I would love to help if I'm understanding correctly. :good:

How about a Magisk module that let's us run Viper ROM on a Pixel 2?? Lol. Sorry couldn't resist. Came from an HTC 10 and really miss your work.
I´am willing to help!
I´ve gotten it to work by making my app a system app in order to be able to register the elmyra sensor without google assistant enabled.
The problem i encountered is that you will need to go in to the setting where you enable active edge in order for it to start working and it will stop working as soon as the settings app isnt active/in memory anymore.

Yeah, the squeeze sensor is just available for system apps.
Went that way first on the u11 too.
But having it work just for rooted users was no option for me.
On the u11 the squeeze actions are custumizable though.
So it is possible to let start apps on a short/long squeeze.
That way the squeeze gestures can be forwarded to my app.
Not possible on the pixel 2 though. That's why we need a magisk module with a modified Systemui apk that modifies 4th he elmyra service

How much does rooting your phone improve the OnePlus 7 Pro?

So I've never rooted a phone but have always been very interested in doing it. I'm just worried about bricking my phone since I have no experience doing it. Is it easy for a beginner to pick up and is it worth the risk? How much better does it improve your experience?
It's a personal thing. Most things you can do without root. Its a matter of personalization.
You can fix OnePlus’s ****ed up notification system. That alone is a big benefit.
You can't really brick the OnePlus 7 Pro, there are recovery options and people here to help if you do. It is extremely easy to do with little to no risk.

Explain this issue if you can. I was looking for a reason to root. I already got my sim unlock from T-Mobile. Only thing I'm missing is all my data backed up by titanium that I use on every device I get. I usually root day one but every passing day I appreciate Oxygen OS more and more. The experience reminds me of the old days of rooting the SAM**** and installing Cynagen. This is smooth as butter
Rooting actually let's you do a back up and restore if you do mess something up. It let's you remove apps that you don't want like for example sprint radio that I never used, can't remove without root. Root let's you use adblock and YouTube premium(ad free YouTube). Root lets you flash custom kernals even if on stock os, custom kernal can improve battery life. Ultimately things improved where u really don't need root like rooting a Samsung will cause a iressviserable Knox trip but one plus doesn't use Knox. And can be locked back to official status

what's wrong with it?
I have it rooted just as a "piece-of-mind" thing. And actually, it looks like YouTube TV took away 720P playback after I rooted. So there's a reason not to do it; first-party apps may not work properly to combat piracy, which is a load of crap if you ask me.
If you root, you won't be able to get anything above 480p or HDR on Netflix. Something to consider.

Wow really? Well damn that's pretty big reason not lol. I use Netflix all the time on my 7 Pro.
Getting rid of ads are a good point.. but then other than the occasional irritant, I don't mind them enough to want to root. Other than that, there is no other reason for me to root. I would love the helvetica nueve font. Haven't found a way to do that without root. But that's okay.. I am still not going to root.
Interesting enough I originally join this board to root, but I have not rooted any device in years.
Even reading the board there always seems to be some trade off.
New update, can not do it right away got to wait so you can root.
Apps that will not work when rooted, ok but almost always you can get them working.
..... Just not worth it anymore for me.
Now I am happy reading about things like the GCAM, and things other people are doing.

You will still get HDR but it will be in 480p. Most of of the time you will never notice the difference.
Even while unrooted, Netflix will only display 720p on the oneplus 7 pro. So you gotta weight your options here.

For me one of things for rooting is magisk modules for adblock, vanced youtube, debloating, themes, changing the navigation bar height, V4a, boosting the speaker audio and custom kernels as well as customization to OOS.

There are magisk roms like renovate that give you the option or you can download RomAur (based on OOS) which has all these customization baked without needing any extra modules.
Also many banking apps aren't keen on root. Mine does a bunch of different checks. Main reason I've not rooted.

[Magisk] Enable 20x zoom and Macro mode on any OnePlus Camera version

Nothing complicated here, just install the zip in Magisk Manager. No need to reboot. It won't show up as a module, so don't worry about that. To remove these changes, clear the data of the OnePlus Camera app.

Depends on the subject, if you are planning to read text or small signs from far then its horrible. Its better to have 20x for big subjects like buildings. On good light its like the phone of 2010.

To be fair i found the xml and explained to docknok how to enable macro and how to make other edits with preferences manager. A module was on the build
but we didnt knew how to code it fully. Totally anxious got it working on her module. The trick was out there already when i explained docknok, many people was already enabling this on preferences manager by that time. Macro mode is only useful to eliminate backgroud blur on macro close ups. T versions focus better in hardware. My point is that arguing about credits of xml edits is kinda pointless because it was an easy trick that many people knew. Dont know about the magisk code, figured out by learning totally anxious module and then dropped stock cam over gcam.
Thanks for this module but yeah as mentioned, super macro mode doesn't really work as well as it should.
