For example, if I plot a travel route, will it show me on the map everything within the range I set above?
Like, I leave the house for a 100km trip. If I put 100km in the above configuration, does it show me on the map even when I'm at home, if there's a blitz, accident, interdiction, etc.?

Ok, so i have a tracking program i made for my phone in C#, basically it uses my GPS gets coords stores in db then uploads then to a server which tracks me on gmaps.... now we have little icons for a car or a person walking... but no way to tell the difference, so my idea was to use the Accelerometer to tell if i was walking or driving, but i have no idea where to begin or if this is even possible? ideas?
I don't know about the accelerometer but you may just want to put a speed cap on the "icons"
ex if your tracked speed is less than 10 miles an hour your icon would be a person, if higher than 10 your icon would be a car (maybe specify a time so that every time you stop at a light your icon continues as a car)

Very good application for our terminals give a major security utility. This application allows us to notify a person of our contact list automatically without any intervention by the user, if we had an accident, which is detected by sensors in our phones to detect the fall and then sends an email or sms with the date, time and position.
I find different uses, for my father, for cyclists who go out alone in the mountains, for those who go on a bike and we're afraid of being stranded on the road if we suffer an accident, in this case the application would send the notice, although we we were in ratios on the road and most importantly would send at the same time of the accident

Does it mean it sends off a text message with your location when the gyroscope detects a sudden change in velocity?

if it detects a crash checks for 1 minute that there is no motion, to detect false alarms, also used for this gyroscope, magnetic field meter and accelerometer.
If after this analysis there is no movement sends an email or sms with our position.

There is a simple way to check the operation, give a strong movement to your hand and then leave it on a table and still 60 seconds the screen will alarm if not deactivated send email or sms.
And then if we repeat the same motion for 60 seconds and continuously move or change your position check that the alarm will not fire
And what happens when I have the accident and no telephone coverage?
to me in the past than to prove it had little coverage, but the minute when the message sent it back without problem.
An interesting application

I'm using the S3 a lot for tracking my running and that's going pretty good. Really good actually. Satellites are locked super fast, in 4 or 5 seconds and tracking is accurate.
Today I tried the cycling activity. Unfortunately it does not track kms. Time and heart rate are logged but no distance.
I tried multiple times, satellite is locked, the program is running, time is ticking.
Does anybody have any experience, do I forget to do something?
Nobody tried cycling mode?
Not intentionally, a couple of times driving the S3 has decided I am cycling and offers encouragement.
If you start it manually I recall it has ALL the distance details, including a summary map. I don't think you get that if it senses a ride and starts automatically.

Well, I started it as an activity, so manually.
I'll do it again in a bit, see what happens.
With auto detecting it doesn't seem to use the GPS, like running is detected fine but no track logging.
Update : 1 just cycled 200 meters and it tracked 170. First 30 locking the satellites.
So... Why it didn't do anything yesterday, trying a bunch of times, booting in between, beats me. Maybe it's today's health update?
I'm having the same problem, walking tracks distance covered, but Cycling doesn't. Calories and time were tracked, but not distance. Really disappointing.
I use my Gear S3 to track my cycling activity all the time.
I go to the S Health app on the watch, set activity type to cycling then set a "target" based on how far I plan to cycle.
Whilst in the setup part of the watch app there are selectable options for "location" (make sure you are selecting this or it won't track where you are, which may be why you're not getting distance?)
I also select "auto pause" to pause tracking if I stop cycling. I then scroll up to the top and hit Go.
After a 3 second countdown it starts tracking my ride.
If I stop cycling briefly (at red traffic lights etc) the watch automatically pauses tracking. When I start riding again it automatically starts tracking again.
At the end of the ride I simply choose finish on the watch and confirm I wan't to finish.
It then syncs all manner of information with my phones S Health app including:
A map of the ride showing my route
Total distance (which is always with a few metres of my Cateye bike computer)
Total duration (e.g. the total time from starting the watch to hitting finish, including time the watch paused due to me being stationary)
Workout duration (the time I was actually moving)
Average & maximum speed
Average pace & maximum pace
Lowest & highest elevation
Total ascent & decent
Average & maximum heart rate
Workout calories & total calories
Weather
There is also a Selectable option to show the whole ride on a graph broken down by up to 2 options from speed/heart rate/elevation
When I used to rely on the Gear S3 workout detection to pickup my cycling, the information available at the end was very limited.
It works brilliantly when I set it manually before my ride (and only takes a few seconds too)
Do you have your phone with you while you cycle?
As I understand when your watch is connected to phone it uses phone for location.
I had a same problem and after I turned location on phone Off and than back to On problem disappeared.
Not sure if this is your problem but it is worth a try
Which do you guys prefer? What gives you better routes for you?

Thoughts on why?
I am planning to install an 8in tablet in my car primarily for Navigation.
Thus I also needed to figure out if I wanted to use Google Maps or Waze.
Also, if I want to use Portrait or Landscape.
I normally use Google Maps on my phone and I tried out Waze this week so I'll give the Pro's and Con's to switch to Waze
= Accuracy of directions is about the same but Google Maps seems slightly better so far.
+ Shows police, speed traps, hazards
+ Speed limit icon (kinda useful)
+ Looks nicer in landscape mode with route to the right
- New UI to learn, but its not that confusing
- No Google integration (doesnt pull up google maps search results from your laptop)
- Waze has "ads", pins for places you dont care about
- Generally more cluttered
- No Android Auto integration YET (Does integrate with a headset)
- Smart zoom in Google Maps is better (zooms in more on intersection)
- Does not show next next turn. (If I have two turns one right after another coming, Google Maps tells me so I know what lane to get into.)
- Does not show which lane for exits
- Does not show traffic clearly on map or in alternate routes
- Takes two button presses to show alternate routes or exit
- No easy way to zoom out (see below)
If I don't have a turn for an hour or 60mi or so, the screen becomes pretty useless. Especially when I'm out in the country, it is basically just a vertical line. My old GPS unit had smart zoom based on how far your next turn was. It would zoom all the way out to a North up top down view showing either your entire route or to the next turn. That way it gives you a quick indicator of where you are and how far along you are. If you were zoomed in, that you have no quick way of knowing that. When you approach a turn, it automatically would zoom back in. In google maps, the fastest way is for me to hit the alternate routes button. It still retails to top banner telling me how far my next turn is. It also shows how duration, distance, and time of arrival. Alternatively, I can hit some buttons and zoom out manually. In Waze, I can also hit Routes. It gives me the zoomed out map but the next turn info is gone. It does show distance and duration left, but it doesnt update if you stay on the screen. I also lose indication of police activity which is the main draw of the app for me. In waze, I can manually zoom out, but after a few seconds, it automatically zooms back in. As you can see, this is a big annoyance of mine
Portrait vs Landscape:
- With Landscape you can typically see more map than Portrait because you can see the sides. Helpful for multi-turns
- With portrait you can see ahead more clearly. The same amount is shown in landscape but since the screen height is physically smaller, everything will appear smaller.
- Landscape "fits" in my car better. Portrait would cause it to stick up above my dash slightly.
- More room for info in portrait mode (if put on the sides) For alt. routes, Waze shows map on left and options on right. Maps/Android Auto does this on some cars but not on phone.
So overall, I'm leaning towards google maps. Maybe because I'm just use to it, maybe because I use it for public transit too. It just seems cleaner and more mature. If Google Maps added the police/speed trap/construction alerts, then there would be no question.
