Is it possible to turn my old Android into a TV box?

Hello, first of all.
It's been a long time since I have visited this place, so excuse me please if I missed a similar thread. I have searched for it.
My question is if it this possible to turn my old Motorola XT 720 into an Android TV box (i.e. Chromecast or similar).
I have tried CheapCast app that only crashed when opening YouTube. This phone has a HDMI port and I assumed it can connect through it to my Philips TV, which is not a smart TV, but a regular HD TV.
The only connection I was able to create was the built-in version of media gallery from phone which has the option to display the pictures from phone on TV screen (proving there is a working connection at least).

This should be possible as the device has the ability to use another display. I would recommend using something like Tablet Remote or other similar apps on the Play store so instead of using the device as a chrome cast you can use it as a full media center device connected to your TV. By using one of these apps you would play videos directly through your device instead of "casting" them. This should hopefully work arround the issue of apps like CheapCast crashing.
Hope I could help and good luck
Thank you, Tablet Remote works good between the 2 Android phones. Still working on it.
I am also working on this route, trying to make use of my screen-broken Xperia Z. However apart from using as mediacenter with kodi, it would be nice if I could properly emulate chromecast. I would love to see a nexus android TV Rom being able to drive my phone, is anybody working on that?

How to enable google cast receiver on android tv box?

How to enable google cast receiver on android tv box?
http://www.apkmirror.com/?s=google+cast&post_type=app_release&searchtype=apk
any luck with it?
Be sure your Google Services is up to date, and be sure your installing Google Cast Reciever to /system/priv-app/. And be sure all TV frameworks & libs from gapps (tvstock) are installed. If that still doesn't work, try finding/installing a compatible updated TvSettings.apk. Good luck!
Hmm, I was only able to cast in youtube manually. As in having to enter the TV Code and physically starting the app.
I managed to update the Google Play Services and install the Cast Reciever and now I got it to connect automatically and start up the app (YouTube only though)

Installing Google Home on unsupported LG TV [SJ810V]

Greetings,
my tv doesn't natively support Google Home, is there a way to install it in some ways?
The TV is a pretty new model and at the moment I have WebOS 5.x
Thanks in advance
Has anyone found a way of doing this? I have an older LG TV (just over a year) cost me a fortune but is on webOS 2.2 and is now the only device in my home I cant control via Google home. I dont want to replace this expensive TV just for that reason.
Thought harmony home hub if you set your lg tv in the harmony and link your Google home on harmony then google home will add it And it will also appear on google home hub display .. be aware that it just give you access to power, volume , channel and imput options with voice but it is better than none

Screen Mirroring Pixel > Samsung TV

Sorry, I can't find on this forum in latest post, is it possible to enable screen mirroring on Google Pixel 1 XL (latest Android Pie) to Samsung TV UE65MU7xxx.
I would like to send everything I see on android screen to my TV set, without buying additional device, like Google Chromecast.
I am able to send videos, photos, music via android Samsung app Smart View, or send video, music, photos via some other apps that uses DLNA.
Please can you provide me with some info, I can't find anything about that here on forum. Do I need to root and what to do.
Thank you.

Issue Using smart dns with TCL Google TV

Hi All, hoping someone can assist.
I just grabbed a 43inch TCL Google TV.
For the fact it has Google TV as it’s OS so I can easily sideload apps etc.
I typical use a Firestick with a smart dns provider to use my foreign country apps versus where I’m based .. e.g use iPlayer, or Hulu etc.
On this new TV I’ve updated the DNS address, can log into the apps, however it won’t let me play anything as the dns isn’t being detected correctly (apps still think I’m right where I’m sitting in a restricted geo fenced country).
If I add DNS to router level then I can get Hulu to work.
Any idea why the TV powered by Google TV won’t take the dns even though it’s in the settings ?
I think the problem will be fixed when you go into Google TV's own settings to enable playback
drive mad
