I recently bought this phone and didn't know that this model G970U is the US T-mobile version so it's **** useless to me + network status locked because I live outside US and I hope if there any way to root it but for free ofc!!!
Sorry, Not for Free! Besides later firmware updates locked out the ability to root.
You can read about it here. https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...unlock-for-samsung-us-canada-devices.4215101/

On At&t variant you can unlock bootloader, steps to root is similar to every other phone, flash twrp and then superSU. You cannot install a custom ROM on the at&t variant unless you convert to another model. I wouldn't ever expect nougat to come to the at&t variant, once again, convert and flash nougat ruu for the us unlocked variant
But there is a slim chance for Nougat?

I wouldn't even give it a slim chance, the AT&T variant is still on 6.0, they released just one update and that was it...

I believe they actually made a statement saying that they would only update non-htc phones somewhere on a Twitter comment @att
wow! i wish i knew this before i bought my AT&T-branded A9.
Greetings,
Ive bought J327T1 today and i want to root my device which is on nougat.
You and countless others. Welcome to the unrootable device club.
the Sm-j327u is rootable its the same exact device as the j327t & t1 the only difference with that model is it's bootloader unlocked. the only solution i see is buying the unlocked version of the j3 prime from samsung's website. good thing about buying from samsung is the fact you can choose what company you want and theres none or less bloatware installed.
---------- Post added at 11:01 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:52 PM ----------
also i have the link. i recommend that everyone buys directly from samsung for now on. remember one thing if your device has sm-XXXXU (X's in place of model numbers/letters) (U=unlocked and available on all carriers.) This is the death of unlocked bootloaders on carrier specific devices. the link to the phone is: https://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/phones/all-other-phones/galaxy-j3-16gb-2017--unlocked--sm-j327uzkaxaa/

We are working on it stay tuned a new thread will be made in the guides and news section if we are successful.
Update: we are out of ideas. Until someone has an exploit we cannot root this device sorry but you will need to either buy some other device or buy the j327u directly from samsung. It is unlocked and you can flash cf autoroot no problem. The only issue is we do not have twrp for that device yet but it will be soon.

theres no method for revision 2 firmware and its impossible to downgrade. the bootloader wont allow it. samsung added a new security check in place to check versions of firmware.

Is anyone ever goona look at this in the future or is it hopeless? Because I do understand that root is available but even that is unstable.

for now its hopeless. samsung really pissed me off by patching the root method not even a month after it was made. sure performance was improved slightly but patching the bootloader is just too much. is having an unlock method too much to ask?

Really surprised me with Samsung to about this. They're normally pretty nice with OEM unlock and etc. Unfortunately this is just a phone they've licked down. They're Galaxy Note series all have root. So it really makes no sense to me why this one is so closed off.
i have gr5 2017 bll-l21 and i m using android 7.0 and i want to update to 8.0 oreo
i never get an update about oreo
And you'll never get it unless you rebrand it to Indian/Chinese variant because it has been released only for these two regions.
To manually update to Oreo, you'll need first of all an unlocked bootloader; do you have it?

You need open bootloader also for debranding to indian variant BLN-L22. Key for open bootloader is since summer 2018 only avallible by paying for. Not very expensive. But concider. I habe debrandet from europe to indian and it was not so out of problems, as I saw it before. And I did not find anybody, who got OREO after debranding by OTA.

You'll need to rely on services like DC Phoenix, FunkyHuawei, ecc. - once done so, you'll be able to unofficially flash literally anything

Can we root S10E with this link? I just found it on the web.
Seems like they copy and paste this "manual" for each and every (Samsung?) phone. First point : find me a home-button on the S10(e) ...
I don't believe TWRP is available yet on the S10, nevertheless the S10+ recently got rooted https://www.xda-developers.com/exynos-samsung-galaxy-s10-rooted-magisk/
S10e won't be far off
does anyone have tried the patch boot image magisk method ?useless to try ?
Check it out!! https://twitter.com/topjohnwu/status/1112611158735966209?s=19
The magisk Mastermind has struck gold again! This is no April fool's day joke! We are about to see payloads galore!!
Great work John Wu!
Why is it that I can't find any information on the status of the snapdragon version of the s10e root/bootloader unlock? I love this phone but I really need root. Does anyone know where I can find information or status updates?

From my understanding, if your model has the option to unlock the bootloader from developer options, then you can root. If you have a snapdragon varient, the only model that has the ability to unlock the bootloader is the SM-G9700 which is only sold in hong kong/china. I believe all Exynos models have the ability to unlock the bootloader, not sure though.
No one has rooted the snap dragon variant, but I'm sure it's possible. I just don't understand why there's no information or status updates on it.

Im pretty sure people are using the Exynos method on snapdragon variants that have the unlockable bootloader.

Don't be so sure about unlocking the US Snapdragon devices. There hasn't been a real root since the S7 series, the S8 root only works on some older bootloaders and crashing a lot, while the S9/S10 have nothing so far. Without an unlockable bootloader, it's extremely difficult to do anything. On the S7 it was possible via special engineering bootloaders, but that trick doesn't work on the S8/S9/S10 series coupled Samsung's new bootloader security measure via "VaultKeeper". Even on the Exynos versions it's a struggle to run Magisk, on every reboot you have to go through a bunch of steps to basically re-unlock the bootloader. It's basically game over rooting new US flagship Samsung devices, therefore you're better off with the international/global Exynos "F" versions.

I believe the Japan carrier branded phones have the bootloader locked and unable to to unlocked. As such the only thing you may be able to do is flash firmware from another phone model. Please be warned that some of the carrier branded phones have different hardware features and may not work with other firmware models.
