Question Screen Protector - Xiaomi Mix Fold 2

On having the phone in my pocket it suffered some minor scratches from my keys on the outer screen protector (when in phone mode) that is installed by default. Possible to remove and to install a matte SP ?

Yes. I have changed mine a few times.

Yes me too

Thanks. Where did you get the replacement screen protector from ?

I got mine at Aliexpress. Fairly quick shipping

I put a matte screen protector on the inner screen, looks amazing! Also from Aliexpress.

Good evening Mickey,
Is it easy to remove the existing inner screen protector and replace with the Matte one. The fingerprints are driving me mad on the factory installed one!
If you don't mind me asking,. What one did you go for on AliExpress? How are you getting on with it?

Just be like me, leave the existing inner screen protector and just put the Matte one on top of it. Of course make sure you clean it properly before applying. Can't even tell that there's 2 screen protectors on the inner screen

Thanks for the reply metalvibe. So no issues with gaps or folding the phone shut with the additional inner protector. Any specific recommendations on AliExpress?

I haven't encountered any problems, have had the device for about 3 months, changed the inner screen protector about 4 times (because i was trying out matte vs non-matte) while leaving the factory installed one on. No problems except (in the current installation), the non-factory screen protector slightly peeling off at the fold (i.e. bubbling) but that's probably due to the 3rd party screen protector glue quality. I just bought a few from Aliexpress from various suppliers, I think they're all the same manufacturer anyway as the ad pictures and details are all the same even when the product arrives, they're all the same. Just go for a more "reputable" one and cross your fingers that it actually does come.

Anyone removed one? How easy it is? Do you end up with glass splinters all over the place?

There are multiple layers in a good tempered glass. If you accidentally remove the layer between the top layer and the glass layer adn the glass is broken it can shatter into micro fragments, though that is less likely to happen.
Mostly you will just remove the tempered glass altogether. Mind you that you cant reapply it properly again(like a screen guard).

Thanks. It's the removal side of things I don't like the sound of. A benefit of a protector is that it's 'sacrificial'. Sooner or later it will get scratched or damaged and need replacing...
I am facing problems with tempered glass, the shop vendor applied the glass and it was not properly fitted I also complained him for the same, he told the screen of your phone is little curved hence it will not properly fit on ur phone, I doubt his contention, is anyone facing same issue or shall i try any other glass....

I already tried three tempered glass from different manufacturers. But all have the same problem. Its doesnt covers the whole screen. And the display looks weird when i watch videos because of improper glass placed on my screen. The shopkeeper gave me the same reason as you got. So i think we will have to wait for proper tempered glass.
Our Moto X Play comes with a Corning Gorilla Glass 3. So i don't think that there's a need for a glass protector. As we apply it just for the peace of our mind. But actually there's no need for it.
Here is the official link for Gorilla Glass 3 http://www.corninggorillaglass.com/en/glass-types/gorilla-glass-3-with-ndr
Have a look at their testing video for gorilla glass 3. You will be surprised by the results.:good:

Even though we have gorillaglass 3 it's still always always always better to protect the screen some extra.
If you accidentally drop it or put it in your pocket with keys you can scratch your screen gorillaglass or not..

I'm afraid he is telling the turth, curved edge won't be fitted properly, there is always a halo exsit, yet you can still try some other brands with smaller size to avoid halo.

In case you don't like the fact that the glass protector doesn't fit well, or that it easily breaks or feels sharp to the touch at the edges, there is an alternative.
You can use one of those soft screen protectors that use the same material as the protection of helicopter blades.
These are soft enough to bend themselves over any curves of your phone and provide excellent protection.
They absorb quite some impact or at least disperse it because they are soft and they are claimed to also 'heal' themselves if the scratch is light.
The feeling is completely different in comparison to glass or hard/sturdy plastic protectors, but I like it.
I think skinomi has one for the moto x play, znitro had the same style soft protection but apparently not yet for this model.

Yes, they are my protector of choice at the moment. Also available here
http://www.xtremeguard.com/Motorola-Moto-X-Play-Screen-Protector-p/moto_x_play_screen_protector.htm (not the 'dry' one). And don't bother with the 'full body kit' as the Moto X Play's rubbery back is such that the back protector doesn't stick well.
Use Coupon Code Fall75 at checkout: get 75% Off. Also free delivery (US). They always have large % off promo codes.
Excellent suggestion, they are cheaper than any I have seen so far for that particular type of protection.
The full body doesn't work very properly for any model, it just comes loose after a while.
You need the raised edges of the phone around the screen to protect the protector's edges.
Always keep in mind that these things are stretchable and they can jump up a bit on the edge after some months.
So you need to install them micrometer perfect.
They worked fine, front and back, for my Nexus 4. I replaced them every few months, but they're cheap enough to be able to do that
i already have a few minor scratches on the display, i dont think gorilla glass is good in any way

Are we sure this is gorillaglass3?
After 2 weeks of careful use and only sticking the phone in my blazer pocket without anything else I also have some microscratches.
My Droid1 didn't scratch this fast at all with less careful use.
Very anxious to receive my screen protectors....

Does the T-mobile version come with a screen protector applied?

Does it come with one already applied to the screen or is it just a plastic wrap around the phone?
It is just thin plastic.

Mine came with a protector already applied front and rear. the plastic that was on the phone had to be taken off to put the SIM in and much to my surprise there was a screen protector already on the screen.
There's a screen protector on it under the plastic sleeve. You can tell it's there by running your hand over the front facing camera area. It's a finger print magnet tho so I took it off.
Sent from my LG-H830 using Tapatalk
Same with mine. I didn't realize it was there until I noticed the seam around the prox sensor.
I left mine on, no problem with touch responsiveness.
So?
Is it just plastic or not. I think it is. I bought a very expensive screen protector cause of the expense of the phone and it does not fit the LG G5. It also doesn't stick down at the top where it curves. Taking this back again.

Seems like it's just cheap, generic shipping-protection plastic, yeah. I had a screen protector that shipped with my case, but it also didn't stick at the top where it curves... So, it's a good thing I was just buying for the case. Now I just have to never, ever, ever drop it on that spot at the top where it curves...
so, what about applying a tempered glass protector? On top of the existing one? or remove the existing one?
I like the existing protector - it's been quite fine IMHO, and no bubbles, very smoothly applied!

I imagine it's gonna be a pain. With that light curve at the top, you'll have to be sure you get the right protector, and even so, it might just not cover the curved part at the top. The screen protector I got wasn't glass (harder plastic) and didn't have a curve to fit, so I think it was a G4 (didn't have one, myself, just assuming it didn't have a curved top) protector that was trying to be passed off... Research, research, research first!
The protector I ordered stops just past the top edge of the 'screen, below the speaker. we'll see how that goes. It's scheduled to arrive Friday...

That's the only decent screen protector that fits right now. There's also a matte finish one. It's not tempered glass, but you get 8. The fit is much better than all of the tempered glass ones on Amazon. It's not 100% perfect as tiny bit of the edge don't stick but you won't notice from the distance unlike the current tempered glass.

If any part of a screen protector doesn't stick then all manner of stuff will get stuck in between. For those w/ colored borders, that's not much of an issue but completely clear ones will eventually show all the dust and stuff on it.

The essential screen isn't flat. I don't see a viable glass protector coming. It'd have to be super thin with a really strong adhesive to make it stick to the sides.

Actually much like the iPhone, it's flat until you get to the edge.
If the current round of protectors was 2mm smaller they would fit.
But for me, it doesn't matter.
I'm returning the phone.
There's still a thin bezel on the side that can handle adhesive on it so if they release one with black borders, I'd get it as the black borders won't show the halo effect even if it's not completely stuck on the outer edges. That's what I have on my iPhones. The display area is glass while the borders are plastic so they flex more.

Jus wait for the accessories to start coming out. Sounds like essential is open to 3rd parties making cases and screen protectors... So just got to hold on...this is what it sounded like from the reddit AMA
I have a Sopi 3M matte skin on the back and it helps with the grip a little but not by much... definitely helps w/ the fingerprints though... lol since it's matte, there can be visible smudges from time to time depending on how dirty/sweaty your paws are... I did read the AMA and they should've worked w/ case manufacturers long before release. I understand they want to keep it close to their vest until release (as to not tip off the competition) but they didn't ship the phone until much later than they said they would so in that time they could've sent out the outside schematics/dimensions to case manufacturers. No excuse!
The situation is the same for any devices that have curved edges. I'm not sure why companies just don't apply adhesive to the whole screen protector. A solution is using UV glue on a glass screen protector that isn't fully covered with adhesive. I've used the Whitedome on my Galaxy S8+ and it works really well. You should be able to buy the UV glue and UV lamp from Amazon and apply it to any glass screen protector. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8KZmF8uQESI

Any screen protectors that don't suck?

I just got my essential phone and I'm really honestly digging it. I think that it's a very nice phone that fits my needs well.
However, within a day and a half I have already scratched my screen. Its dead center on the screen and like an inch long Literally got the phone on Saturday and scratched it by Monday early AM. I didn't do anything with the phone besides take it in and out of my pocket. Didn't even make it to work with the phone yet. So I'm pretty upset about that.
I know it's gorilla glass 5, but I have never scratched a phone so quick before. Hell my old phone (Moto X pure) Only had one small scratch after running it for 2.5 years without any screen protection at all, including numerous drops and rough handling.
So I guess a screen protector is a must. I ordered a tudia case and a tempered glass screen protector off Amazon. The screen protector is garbage. I hate it. The edges of the screen protector do NOT stick down, even without the case. The edge all the way around the screen is lifted. It looks terrible.
Are there any screen protectors for this phone that are actually decent? I would rather deal with the chance of more scratches than stare at this awful screen protector with unstuck edges.
Photo of the terrible edges.
I'm curious to know too
I haven't found a good tempered glass for this phone. They all seem to have issues. I've been using the IQ Shield wet install screen protector. Not tempered glass but looks and feels great (almost as smooth as glass), self healing and works with cases if you get the case friendly version.
Sent from my Essential PH-1 using Tapatalk
glass screen protectors are nicer, but they suck on this phone.
I went with wet install plastic in the end because it does the main reason for one, protect from scratches, I'm confident it will.
I just hate the wet install process.
but my experience with glass is it doesn't protect from breaking anyway. any significant hit that would break the screen will break the screen no matter what. I think a bumper case is most effective.
I'm using the this one.

You need to clean your screen really, really, really good before you apply it.
Any oils will show up as a rainbow effect or something close.
I've been using it for weeks now with no lifting with a Tudia case.
Some people say they pop off. That has not been my experience. YMMV

I also use this one. I have actually already gone through 5 of them... It seems like some of them are more sticky than others maybe. Initially I used them without out a case and they would come off all the time, but since I've had the Tudia case 1 fell off and the new one has been on there 3 weeks.
My opinion is they are hit or miss... just hope 1 of 3 is good.

I use incipio, be careful, the installation instructions are very tricky, I messed up mine while installing, lost 40$

So is the Incipio screen protector any good? I don't even care that it's $40, if it sticks down properly without the bubble around the edges I'll buy it.
I am also interested in finding a better screen protector. I have been using the IQ Shield LiQuidSkin, which worked great for a few weeks, but now a corner is peeling up, I assume from pulling it in and out of my pocket. I might go ahead and get another one if I can't find anything better. Would love a tempered glass protector if someone actually makes a decent one!

Sounds promising. I like to try a full adhesive one like that someday on mine. Hopefully the gaps on the sides won't be too large on this?
I'm currently using an edge only adhesive glass protector, which covers most of the screen and is case friendly. With that I mean , once the case is on you cannot see gaps on either sides.
Downsides are the black OLED screen looks grey for some reason with the one I'm using . Example with the screen turned off the n9 looks black, but with the screen protector I'm using it looks grey.
For that price, I'd rather get the whitestone. Just me personally.
looks good, damn expansive too, but will it work??
i tried some of these back then for the note 8.
they all lift at edge of both side and the bubbles keep coming back. they just not sticking good enough.
only in my experience, i never trusted these false result product anymore until they proven by many reputable xda members and you-tube reviewers.
good-luck with you purchase.
please report back if they are legit.

I've had bad experiences with the dome glass screen protectors before. No matter what I do there's always glue around the edges that pickup dust which is unacceptable for a screen protector that expensive.
I just hope this screen protector turns out well and will report back to you guys when I receive it and install it.

Those pics are fake though. That's not a note 9 unfortunately so hopefully you received the correct item. Please post pics or a video of your protector on your device when you receive it.

I have the whitestone on my S9+, once you wipe the glue off the edges, there's no dust issues. Granted, I have mine in a case (simple TPU) as well.
luvvitt note 9
I posted this in the other thread but figured i mention it here as well.
